&lt;h3&gt;TITLE UPDATE 001&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We are currently working on one last patch aimed to come out this week (&lt;em&gt;1.1e&lt;/em&gt;).  We are also working on the first of many major game updates - the Title Updates.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;img height="253" src="http://i.imgur.com/XScJe.jpg" width="450"/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Theses are the large updates that will significantly shape, sculpt and add content to the game for absolutely no cost what-so-ever.  The biggest additions for Title Update 001 include:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;PERSISTENCE IS COMING!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Persistence will be fully implemented with &lt;em&gt;Title Update 2&lt;/em&gt;.  We are adding connections in &lt;em&gt;Title Update 1&lt;/em&gt; which will track all progress and then apply it towards &lt;em&gt;Title Update 2&lt;/em&gt;.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;32BIT OS SUPPORT&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Title Update 001 will introduce full Windows 32Bit OS Support. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;HUGE PERFORMANCE TWEAKS&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;On all game areas including Textures, Particles, Audio &amp;amp; A.I.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;NEW GAME MODE &amp;amp; 3 NEW MAPS&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;We are introducing three new levels as well as the &amp;#8216;Adrenaline Survival&amp;#8217; game mode.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;NEW AUDIO &amp;amp; AUDIO SYSTEMS&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We are introducing new audio for Dinosaurs, Weapons, Vehicles, Items and Environments as well as implementing new volume range and audio levels. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;STEAM INCENTIVES&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;Steam Incentives will be unlocked with Title Update 001.  &lt;em&gt;This is for anyone that purchases &amp;#8216;ORION: Dino Beatdown&amp;#8217; by July 1st, 2012&lt;/em&gt;. &lt;/li&gt;

&lt;h3&gt;DEDICATED SERVER SUPPORT VIA STEAM&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;img height="181" src="http://i.imgur.com/MiLrv.jpg" width="450"/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;With the release of &lt;strong&gt;Version 1.1D&lt;/strong&gt; we have also made available the Steam Tool for ORION: Dino Beatdown Dedicated Server Support.  If you own the game you will be able to load up Steam, go to the &amp;#8216;Tools&amp;#8217; tab and see the &amp;#8216;ORION: Dino Beatdown Dedicated Server&amp;#8217;.  This will automagically update just as your Dino Beatdown Client.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;STUDIO OPENING&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;img height="181" src="http://i.imgur.com/tmb01.jpg" width="450"/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We are extremely proud to announce this next segment.  We have been working very hard for many years to get to this point and most importantly we have achieved it &lt;em&gt;independently&lt;/em&gt;.  While it won&amp;#8217;t be large off the start by any means, we will be filtering in (&lt;em&gt;roll-out&lt;/em&gt;) over the next year and two.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;What does this mean?  We will not only have the key developers in the same country and time zone - &lt;em&gt;but in the same room&lt;/em&gt;.  We will be faster, more efficient and better communicated among one-another.  This means faster updates for you guys and just an overall level of polish.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;ONLIVE VERSION&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;h3&gt;NOTES - 64BIT / 32BIT&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Right now this patch only officially fixes the build for 64bit OS users.  There is currently a hotfix for the 32bit users that you can use to play the game until we are able to put in the more &amp;#8220;natural&amp;#8221; fix by Patch 2 or by Patch 3 which will take quite a bit more time.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;NOTES - HOTFIX FOR 32BIT USERS&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;CAUTION&lt;/em&gt;:&lt;/strong&gt; This is a rather extreme fix.  It&amp;#8217;s proven to work however we suggest removing it when not playing.  To do this simply reset the command but instead of using &amp;#8216;3072&amp;#8217; set it back to &amp;#8216;2048&amp;#8217;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;1. Open command prompt with Administrator rights. To do this, go to Programs, Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and select &amp;#8220;Run as Administrator.&amp;#8221;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;2. Enter the following at the prompt and press enter: &lt;strong&gt;bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;3. Close the prompt and restart the computer.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;SO WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED? (FAN EXPLANATION)&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We had an incredible &lt;a href="http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2690460" target="_blank"&gt;Steam Community user&lt;/a&gt; (&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;SpyKirby&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt;) create an incredible visual diagram of what exactly caused all of this madness.  It covers every little detail:&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;a href="http://i.imgur.com/Kt1V3.png" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;img height="472" src="http://i.imgur.com/Kt1V3.png" width="450"/&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;SO WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The Review Build that was sent out this last Monday (&lt;em&gt;Apr 30&lt;/em&gt;) was perfectly fine and functional.  From Monday to Friday morning (&lt;em&gt;3am&lt;/em&gt;) we were working hard on updates, polish and more fixes on top of this to have it all that much greater for the public seed version.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;After we had submitted the update to Steam there was a game directory name change that created some weird inconsistencies which ultimately created quite a few problems for some users.  Many of the early adopters were getting multiple install folders (the old / new) and we ran into a few extra issues that weren&amp;#8217;t even present in the review build.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;THANKS TO EPIC &amp;amp; STEAM&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We all need to give a shout out to both Steam and Epic for assisting with these fixes and restoring it back to proper order for you guys.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;FAST-ACTING!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Once we realized what happened (&lt;a href="http://spiralgamestudios.com/post/22462849037/orion-dino-beatdown-patch-1-on-monday" target="_blank"&gt;very quickly)&lt;/a&gt; we immediately posted an update to make you guys aware and worked very hard to stay in &lt;a href="http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1407" target="_blank"&gt;constant communication&lt;/a&gt; with all of you to let you know what was going on.  We also emailed all of the press and reviewers for the game to let them know what happened and to have both them and their readers try to wait for the Patch.  It was messy but &lt;a href="http://www.facebook.com/spiralgamestudios" target="_blank"&gt;we handeld it the best we could&lt;/a&gt; and I couldn&amp;#8217;t be more proud of the guys at Spiral for keeping it all under control over these very hectic last hours.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;PATCH 2 / PATCH 3&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We are thrilled to have gotten Patch 1 out as quickly as we did.  The main focus of Patch 1 is to resolve all major issues and make sure that people can fully play the product they paid for.  It was a hectic weekend but we prevailed.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We are now working on a Patch 2 and Patch 3 which will incorporate a significant amount of small changes, additions, tweaks, fixes and polish.  You can expect some cool new features including the ability to Drop Weapons and even Drop Credits.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h3&gt;KICKSTARTER COPIES - WAVE 1&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Sit down for this one.  We have some sad news.  We were feverishly working towards release and oh so close to it that it was both tasty and terrifying.  Over the course of the last few days we have had a string of unfortunate events tackle on us like little anchors that ultimately have spread us too thin.  We sadly have to miss our awesome release date and push the game back by a mere fourteen (&lt;em&gt;14&lt;/em&gt;) days and will be releasing on &lt;strong&gt;Friday, May 4th, 2012 (05/04/2012).&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We are extremely sad with this as it has been a long journey and all we want to do is punch Raptors in the face with you.  So today is all about making that wound hurt a bit less by giving you gifts and love in the form of media, trailers and more.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;(^CLICK IMAGE FOR HD) &lt;/strong&gt;We have heard the question &lt;strong&gt;&amp;#8220;Will the dinosaurs be playable?&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;#8220; time and time again and now we can officially say &lt;strong&gt;&amp;#8220;Yes.&amp;#8221;&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;I was looking at how our A.I dinosaurs were setup and the systems already in place and noticed it wouldn&amp;#8217;t be much extra work at all to effectively achieve super polished and super fun playable dinosaurs.  I talked it over with our Technical Artist, Scott and our Head Honcho Programmer, Chris and they green lighted everything in terms of work load.  The best part it is it will in no way affect our current deadlines or milestones and we are very much on track with development.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.orion-project.net/media/sept2011/PlayableDinosaurs002.png"&gt;&lt;img height="213" width="450" src="http://www.orion-project.net/media/sept2011/PD002.jpg"/&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We will be premiering a new mode under our &amp;#8216;&lt;em&gt;Cooperative&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8217; game mode branch currently being labeled as &lt;strong&gt;&amp;#8220;Dino Attack&amp;#8221;&lt;/strong&gt;.  We will be revealing more information on this game mode in the near future but right now we can share the following with you:&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;FACT 001 - &lt;/strong&gt;Each Dinosaur will have it&amp;#8217;s own &amp;#8220;&lt;em&gt;archetype&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8221; and abilities.  Our Dinosaurs both in the A.I modes and playable modes all have their own personality traits and behavior styles.  &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;FACT 002 - &lt;/strong&gt;These are very akin to Left 4 Dead zombies in the sense that we have multiple roles such as the &lt;strong&gt;T-Rex&lt;/strong&gt; being similar to the &amp;#8220;&lt;em&gt;Tank&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8221;, the Raptor being similar to the &amp;#8220;&lt;em&gt;Hunter&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8221; and the &lt;strong&gt;Triceratops &lt;/strong&gt;being similar to the &amp;#8220;&lt;em&gt;Charger&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8221;. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;FACT 003 - &lt;/strong&gt;Each playable Dinosaur will have it&amp;#8217;s own attacks and special attacks. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;FACT 004 - &lt;/strong&gt;All of our dinosaurs will be playable except for the &lt;strong&gt;Argentinosaurus&lt;/strong&gt;.  He will be present in these modes as an A.I piece.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.orion-project.net/media/sept2011/PlayableDinosaurs003.png"&gt;&lt;img height="213" width="450" src="http://www.orion-project.net/media/sept2011/PD003.jpg"/&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We are still currently in &amp;#8220;&lt;em&gt;Pre-Alpha&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8221; and this announcement marks the game as &lt;em&gt;feature-locked&lt;/em&gt;.  We are right around the corner from hitting &amp;#8220;&lt;em&gt;Alpha&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8221; status and are on track with our internal &amp;#8220;&lt;em&gt;Beta&lt;/em&gt;&amp;#8221; milestone.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h3&gt;GERMANY&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;img height="235" width="450" src="http://www.orion-project.net/media/aug2011/SGS_Aug2011_Cologne.jpg"/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;We kicked off August with our premiere in Germany for GamesCom.  I had arrived in &lt;strong&gt;Frankfurt &lt;/strong&gt;and took a bullet train straight to &lt;strong&gt;Cologne &lt;/strong&gt;where the conference was being held.  I had stayed in a hotel literally right outside the famous Catherdral.  An absolutely beautiful city and luckily had perfect weather the entire time.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h3&gt;GAMESCOM 2011&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This was easily the most insane conference that I have ever attended.  The complex it took place in was absolutely massive - an entire city complex.  There were multiple main halls split into two sections - one for developers and trade visitors and another for the entertainment expo where fans could play games and sweat profusely in sea of people.  GamesCom broke a record this year with the highest level of attendees reaching a whopping &lt;strong&gt;271,000 visitors&lt;/strong&gt;.  They actually had to lock the complex down due to hitting capacity on Saturday at around 2:00pm.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Literally two days after getting back from Germany and GamesCom I was on yet another flight to head out to Seattle, WA - the best place in the world.  It was a celebration of sorts as I was attending the very first &lt;strong&gt;PAX Dev&lt;/strong&gt; - ever.  It consisted of a variety of developer interactions and many industry folk residing under one roof.  I had the absolute fortune of having one of the coolest lunches in my life.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;PAX DEV 2011&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I ran into a fellow developer friend out (&lt;em&gt;Keith&lt;/em&gt;) who invited me to a lunch with some of the people I was originally inspired to get into the video games industry.  This included Jaime Griesemer, the game designer for &lt;strong&gt;Halo 1-3&amp;#160;&lt;/strong&gt;and 13 year Bungie Veteran.  Also present was Keith, producer on games like &lt;strong&gt;Call of Duty: Black Ops&lt;/strong&gt;, &lt;strong&gt;Jedi Knight: Outcast&lt;/strong&gt; / &lt;strong&gt;Academy&lt;/strong&gt;, &lt;strong&gt;Return to Castle Wolfenstein&lt;/strong&gt; and also Dennis, Producer at Blizzard for games like &lt;strong&gt;StarCraft 2&amp;#160;&lt;/strong&gt;and&lt;strong&gt; Diablo 3&lt;/strong&gt;.  They were all super awesome and the food was nice too.&lt;br/&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;MY VISIT TO VALVE&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;So I had a days worth of time to kill.  I shot an email over to our partners at Valve and told them exactly that and that I would love to come and see the studios.  They replied &lt;em&gt;&amp;#8220;Be here at 10:00am tomorrow&amp;#8221;.&lt;/em&gt; I did exactly that.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;img height="235" width="450" src="http://www.orion-project.net/media/aug2011/SGS_Aug2011_Knives.jpg"/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I was fortunate enough to see literally everything.  This included all stories of development, the meeting room, tester room, the 3D modeling machines, Gabe&amp;#8217;s office and his sweet knife collection and plenty more.  I also had the great opportunity of having a 40-minute cigarette with both &lt;strong&gt;Erik Wolpaw&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Jay Pinkerton&lt;/strong&gt;, the brilliant writers behind &lt;strong&gt;Portal 2&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;img height="235" width="450" src="http://www.orion-project.net/media/aug2011/SGS_Aug2011_ValveSwag.jpg"/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;I will be doing a full write-up on&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt; &amp;#8221;My Visit To Valve&amp;#8221;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt; over in the Spiral community which will include plenty of more pictures, videos and information.  Stay tuned.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h3&gt;PAX PRIME 2011&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This was the craziest PAX even that I&amp;#8217;ve been to yet.  I wasn&amp;#8217;t even able to stay for the whole thing but the amount of people inside the place was overwhelming to say the least.  Plenty of awesome games were up for play including the new &lt;strong&gt;SSX&lt;/strong&gt;, &lt;strong&gt;FireFall&lt;/strong&gt;, the new &lt;strong&gt;Tribes&lt;/strong&gt; and my personal favorite - &lt;strong&gt;Counter-Strike: Global Offensive&lt;/strong&gt;.  The place was a mad house but I highly recommend any gamer that has the chance of going to PAX to do so.  Very fun.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;So that is a quick update with what has been going on around here.  Over the next week or two we will be putting out a new video that shows plenty of footage and images taken over the course of August 2011. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Don&amp;#8217;t forget.  &lt;a target="_blank" href="http://spiralforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&amp;amp;t=1898"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Large announcement is coming on Monday, September 5th, 2011&lt;/strong&gt;. &lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</description><link>http://spiralgamestudios.com/post/9599311770</link><guid>http://spiralgamestudios.com/post/9599311770</guid><pubDate>Tue, 30 Aug 2011 16:22:00 -0500</pubDate><category>GamesCom</category><category>PAX</category><category>Spiral Game Studios</category><category>Valve</category><category>ORION</category></item></channel></rss>
