Billy Ray Through the Decades

  • Date: September 19, 2017

From musician to movie star, the 30-year career of Billy Ray Cyrus has checked off all the boxes. Spirit Mountain Casino is excited to welcome one of America’s greatest entertainers to the Main Event Center on Saturday, October 14th. And while we wait for the show, we’re reflecting on the decades of entertainment that have made us Billy Ray’s number one fan.

The 90's: The Early Country Music Years

Billy Ray, a born-and-bred Kentuckian, made a name for himself in the country music scene when he opened a 1990 show for Reba McEntire. The crowd went wild – and reps from Mercury Records listened to the fanfare. Billy Ray signed with the label that same year, and it wasn’t long before his first studio album, Some Gave All, made its debut. Fame was close on its heels. In the 90's, Billy Ray gained international renown with:

●      Some Gave All, which held its #1 place on Billboard album charts for a record-breaking 17 consecutive weeks

●      The debut of perennial country hits, including “Achy Breaky Heart,” “She’s Not Cryin’ Anymore,” “Where’m Gonna Live When I Get Home,” and “Could’ve Been Me”

The 2000's: The Acting Years

With a prodigious musical career already under his belt, Billy Ray expanded his reach as an entertainer with a 2001 acting debut in Mulholland Drive. This springboarded a successful transition as an actor, with credits that include:

●      Hannah Montana, a 2006 Disney Channel original series that Billy Ray co-starred in with his daughter, Miley Cyrus

●      A place in season four of Dancing with the Stars, where BIlly Ray and his partner Karina Smirnoff made it to the eighth week

●      A Broadway debut in Chicago as lawyer Billy Flynn

2010 and Onward: A Return to Country Music

Even as Billy Ray’s acting career took off, he continued to identify as a country musician first and foremost. That commitment holds true today. Thin Line, Billy Ray’s 14th studio album, launched last September, and with it came a new wave of unforgettable music.

We can’t wait to experience Billy Ray Cyrus hits—new and old—when the country legend comes to Spirit Mountain Casino on Saturday, October 14th. We can’t wait for a night of great music, laughs, and entertainment from one of our favorite country star!
