			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Nel caos di dibattiti di questo periodo su futuro dei media nell&#8217;era del web 2.0, nuovi modelli di business per l&#8217;informazione e &#8220;notizie a pagamento si&#8217; o no?&#8221;, si rischia di perdere di vista un punto: chi e&#8217; il giornalista? Che lavoro fa? (E di conseguenza: ne possiamo fare a meno?).<br />
Roger Cohen del New York Times, con negli occhi e nel cuore l&#8217;esperienza a Teheran delle ultime settimane, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/06/opinion/06iht-edcohen.html?_r=1&#038;src=twt&#038;twt=nytimesopinion" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.nytimes.com/2009/07/06/opinion/06iht-edcohen.html?_r=1_038_src=twt_038_twt=nytimesopinion&amp;referer=');">prova a rifletterci</a>, con lucidita&#8217; e anche momenti di tono &#8220;ispirato&#8221;, come questo:</p>
<blockquote><p>It’s more fashionable to denigrate than praise the media these days. In the 24/7 howl of partisan pontification, and the scarcely less-constant death knell din surrounding the press, a basic truth gets lost: that to be a journalist is to bear witness.<br />
The rest is no more than ornamentation.<br />
To bear witness means being there — and that’s not free. No search engine gives you the smell of a crime, the tremor in the air, the eyes that smolder, or the cadence of a scream.</p></blockquote>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Mercoledi&#8217; inizio una nuova fase professionale, nella redazione Multimedia dell&#8217;<a href="http://www.ansa.it/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.ansa.it/?referer=');">ANSA</a>, dopo nove anni trascorsi negli USA. Momento buono per interrogarsi sul futuro, visto che a leggere le analisi dei guru digitali americani sembra imminente il giorno in cui saro&#8217; disoccupato. Il giornalismo tradizionale, quello delle grandi testate come l&#8217;ANSA, secondo loro e&#8217; a un passo dall&#8217;estinzione. </p>

<p>Gli esempi? Prendete Chris Anderson, quello di Wired e di <a href="http://www.longtail.com/the_long_tail/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.longtail.com/the_long_tail/?referer=');">The Long Tail</a>. Negli USA sta facendo discutere con il suo nuovo libro <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Free-Future-Radical-Chris-Anderson/dp/1401322905/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#038;s=books&#038;qid=1246812554&#038;sr=8-1" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.amazon.com/Free-Future-Radical-Chris-Anderson/dp/1401322905/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8_038_s=books_038_qid=1246812554_038_sr=8-1&amp;referer=');">Free: The Future of a Radical Price</a> (anche su ufficialmente esce solo domani), nel quale sviluppa le proprie tesi su modelli economici basati sul &#8220;gratis per tutti&#8221;. Secondo Anderson, il giornalismo dei quotidiani non vale piu&#8217; niente e la professione del giornalismo sta per essere rimpiazzata da qualcosa di diverso, una sorta di &#8220;community organizer&#8221; (magari porta bene, visto che e&#8217; il mestiere che ha lanciato la carriera di Obama&#8230;). Scrive Anderson a proposito dei giornalisti:</p>
<blockquote><p>There may be more of them, not fewer, as the ability to participate in journalism extends beyond the credentialed halls of traditional media. But they may be paid far less, and for many it won’t be a full time job at all. Journalism as a profession will share the stage with journalism as an avocation. Meanwhile, others may use their skills to teach and organize amateurs to do a better job covering their own communities, becoming more editor/coach than writer. If so, leveraging the Free—paying people to get other people to write for non-monetary rewards—may not be the enemy of professional journalists. Instead, it may be their salvation. </p></blockquote>
<p>Sara&#8217;, ma sembra che in giro ci sia una grande sottovalutazione, o quanto meno incomprensione, di cosa significhi fare davvero informazione. Sicuramente e&#8217; anche colpa di noi giornalisti, che abbiamo offerto un&#8217;immagine tale da far pensare che i media tradizionali si possono rimpiazzare senza troppi traumi.<br />
Negli USA, c&#8217;e sempre meno gente disposta a scommettere sul futuro delle grandi news organizations. Leggetevi per esempio <a href="http://www.yelvington.com/fatal_assumptions" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.yelvington.com/fatal_assumptions?referer=');">questa analisi di Steve Yelvington</a> - uno stratega dei media serio - sul piano d&#8217;azione messo a punto<a href="http://www.editorsweblog.org/newspaper/2009/05/newspaper_executives_meet_in_chicago_to.php" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.editorsweblog.org/newspaper/2009/05/newspaper_executives_meet_in_chicago_to.php?referer=');">in queste settimane</a> dagli editori americani. Ve la sintetizzo: &#8220;State sbagliando di brutto, pensate che la gente sia disposta a pagare ancora per i vostri contenuti, ma non lo e&#8217; piu&#8217;&#8221;. Quel che colpisce e&#8217; che anche uno come Yelvington non sia in grado di suggerire vie d&#8217;uscita per i giornali, a parte generici inviti ad &#8220;ascoltare la gente&#8221;:</p>
<blockquote><p>If there is a path forward for newspaper companies, it will be a new one they have yet to discover. Such discovery begins with listening to real people, not by wishful thinking in the boardroom.</p></blockquote>
<p>A reagire a questi scenari da catastrofe imminente dei media sono pochi. <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/books/2009/07/06/090706crbo_books_gladwell" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/books/2009/07/06/090706crbo_books_gladwell?referer=');">Malcolm Gladwell, sul prestigioso New Yorker</a>, ha attaccato le conclusioni di Anderson, per ricavarne una piccata <a href="http://www.longtail.com/the_long_tail/2009/06/dear-malcolm-why-so-threatened.html" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.longtail.com/the_long_tail/2009/06/dear-malcolm-why-so-threatened.html?referer=');">replica</a> dal diretto interessato che ha alimentato per giorni il dibattito tra gli addetti ai lavori su Twitter. E non e&#8217; una novita&#8217; che nella galassia Murdoch la si pensi diversamente (vedi il mio <a href="http://marcobardazzi.com/blog8/2009/07/01/il-futuro-del-giornalismo-non-e-nei-blog/">post precedente</a>).<br />
Pero&#8217; tira una brutta aria. Che io non condivido del tutto. Secondo me credibilita&#8217; e autorevolezza alla fine porteranno a definire modelli di business anche nell&#8217;era del digitale e del Free. Resta un piccolo problema, per noi giornalisti: dobbiamo essere credibili e autorevoli&#8230;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200804/r242388_984647.jpg" alt="" />John Hartigan, il CEO di News Limited, il braccio australiano del colosso dei media di Rupert Murdoch, in un <a href="http://mumbrella.com.au/hartigan-journalism-not-the-limited-intellectual-value-of-blogs-is-the-future-of-the-web-7306" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/mumbrella.com.au/hartigan-journalism-not-the-limited-intellectual-value-of-blogs-is-the-future-of-the-web-7306?referer=');">discorso</a> senza peli sulla lingua ha attaccato a testa bassa tutti quelli che ritengono che i grandi media attuali siano destinati a morire e <a href="http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/07/01/2614148.htm?site=local" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/07/01/2614148.htm?site=local&amp;referer=');">sostenuto invece</a> che i quotidiani hanno cio&#8217; che serve &#8220;per adeguarsi all&#8217;era digitale, adattare i loro modelli di business e continuare a raggiungere un pubblico di massa&#8221;.<br />
Hartigan ha sostenuto che il &#8216;modello australiano&#8217; dell&#8217;informazione sta reggendo bene la sfida del web - a differenza di quelli americano e britannico - e ha attaccato senza pieta&#8217; i bloggers e gli aggregatori come <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.huffingtonpost.com/?referer=');">Huffington Post</a> o <a href="http://www.newser.com/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.newser.com/?referer=');">Newser</a>, ribadendo invece che la strada giusta e&#8217; quella del giornalismo di qualita&#8217; e a pagamento del Wall Street Journal (gruppo Murdoch)<br />
Sui bloggers, tra le altre cose, Hartigan afferma:</p>
<blockquote><p>In return for their free content, we pretty much get what we’ve paid for - something of such limited intellectual value as to be barely discernible from massive ignorance. (&#8230;)<br />
Like Keating’s famous “all tip and no iceberg”, it could be said that the blogosphere is all eyeballs and no insight.</p></blockquote>
<p>Un discorso, quello di Hartigan, sicuramente con molte provocazioni in molti casi discutibili, ma ricco di spunti e di indicazioni importanti sulla strada che sta prendendo il giornalismo. Vale la pena leggerlo (anche se varie parti riguardano lo specifico dell&#8217;Australia, che non e&#8217; esattamente il cortile dietro casa&#8230;)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Nieman Journalism Lab, l&#8217;osservatorio sul giornalismo digitale di Harvard, ci racconta <a href="http://www.niemanlab.org/2009/06/link-from-yahoo-breaks-traffic-records-at-new-york-times/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.niemanlab.org/2009/06/link-from-yahoo-breaks-traffic-records-at-new-york-times/?referer=');">una storia</a> a mio avviso esemplare sulle sfide odierne dell&#8217;informazione online per i grandi media.<br />
Dunque, quello che e&#8217; successo e&#8217; che Yahoo! ha messo in bella evidenza sulla proprio homepage un link a <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/18/garden/18houses.html?_r=1" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.nytimes.com/2009/06/18/garden/18houses.html?_r=1&amp;referer=');">una pagina del New York Times</a> dedicata a bel servizio sul boom delle case d&#8217;epoca comprate a basso costo perche&#8217; hanno qualche &#8216;problemino&#8217;: il caso al centro della storia, per esempio, e&#8217; quello di una villetta ottocentesca in Connecticut che ogni mattina trema come per un terremoto per il passaggio di un treno merci a pochi metri dalla camera da letto (vedi foto qui sotto).<br />

Grazie al link su Yahoo!, il servizio ha stabilito il record assoluto di visite per un articolo del New York Times, battendo quelli precedenti che risalivano alla campagna elettorale 2008 vinta da Obama. In due ore, il flusso dei visitatori in arrivo da Yahoo! ha fatto registrare 9 milioni di pagine viste sul sito del quotidiano americano. Al ritmo di 7.300 contatti al secondo, l&#8217;ondata di lettori poteva essere una manna pubblicitaria. Ma la pagina si trovava nella sezione Home and Garden, che non pare essere tra le piu&#8217; redditizie per la pubblicita&#8217; online.<br />
Scrive il blogger di Nieman Lab:</p>
<blockquote><p>Deputy managing editor Jonathan Landman told me over the phone today that they might have been able to wring more revenue from the traffic if Yahoo had linked to an article in the site’s Theater or Small Business sections, where demand is much higher for expensive advertising sold by the Times.</p></blockquote>
<p>Qui sta una delle sfide del giornalismo online: va bene essere valorizzati dai link dei grandi portali, o di Google, ma come riuscire a trasformare quel traffico in guadagni che permettano ai media di sopravvivere?</p>

Gli eventi in Iran hanno consacrato sui media americani il servizio di microblogging, lanciando una corsa a integrarlo sempre piu&#8217; nella produzione giornalistica, ma rafforzando anche le prospettive per Twitter di diventare una macchina da soldi.<br />
   Vincendo lo scetticismo di chi lo vede come una piattaforma per il gossip tra adolescenti, Twitter si e&#8217; rivelato tra gli strumenti piu&#8217; efficaci per raccontare le proteste iraniane. Al punto da spingere il Dipartimento di Stato <a href="http://blog.seattlepi.com/thebigblog/archives/171381.asp?from=blog_last3" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/blog.seattlepi.com/thebigblog/archives/171381.asp?from=blog_last3&amp;referer=');">a intervenire</a> per convincere la societa&#8217; che lo gestisce a posticipare una prevista manutenzione tecnica, per non interrompere un flusso informativo a cui anche diplomazia e intelligence a Washington attingono, per cercare di capire cosa accade a Teheran.
