21 Must Pack Items for Your Cruise

I am less than two months away since my Mediterranean cruise with Celebrity and I'm starting to think about what I want to bring. Packing for a cruise is very different than any other vacation. You can't just run to Walgreens if you forget something and you don't want to pay $10 for two Tylenol in the ship's shop.

Here are my must have products for your next cruise. All of these products are available on Amazon, from which I earn a small commission. If you want to save some money, don't wait, as many are on sale for prime week.

You will print out the luggage tags for your cruise. Those pieces of paper and easily tear and your luggage can get lost. These plastic holders can keep those tags clean and secure.

I rarely get seasick, but I you never know if you are going to hit a storm. I have these ginger chews and wrist bands handy, as well as Dramamine (see below).

There never seem to be enough hangers in the staterooms. You can get more, but it takes a while and they are usually bulky. These won't take any room in your suitcase and you'll appreciate having them.

Don't be the one to stink up the bathroom! Pick up some travel-sized Poo-Pourri.

Even if the sun isn't bright, you should bring along at least one UPF hat like this unisex one.

Cabins can get very dark. You'll want to have these nightlights so you can see if you get up during the night.

Chances are there won't be a lot of darkness during the day. I usually have my prescription sunglasses, but these give options since they can fit over prescription glasses or be worn on his own,

Once you start taking photos, power on your phone will go quickly. I love these power banks that have the cords attached. No worrying about having the wrong charger.

There is always plenty of food on a cruise ship, but not always when you want it. Take along some Ziplocs so you can take snacks with you from the buffet.

There are so many places to relax on a cruise ship. You don't want to be sitting at the coffee shop or not have your favorite drink. Bring a tumbler and/or water bottle to have refreshment with you on and off the ship.

Cruise cabins are magnetic. You can put any magnet on the wall and it will stay there. Use this wisely by purchasing (for under $10) magnetic hooks. I use them to hang hats, bags, and jackets.

No matter where you travel these days, there's an outlet shortage. Cruise ships are no different, except you cannot bring power strips with surge protectors. This compact one is great, but also bring a converter so that you can use the European outlet too. Both also have USB ports.

You'll want to avoid doing laundry as much as possible on a cruise. These two items help and they are sold together here. Downy Wrinkle Release will refresh your clothing. Tide sticks can get rid of stains quickly.

Do not head to long days of excursions with hills, broken roads, cobblestones, and the possibility of rain with out a good pair of comfortable shoes. I love Skechers Slip Ins. I have them in the sneaker, slip on, and sandal version. A neutral color-- or two-- is always a good idea.

You do not want to get caught on an excursion with a headache or stomach upset. Rather than carrying around a bunch of bottles, this medication pack has just about everything you need.

Don't go anywhere without sunblock. Whether it's on the deck or out at port, make sure you are covered. I like these two. The Coppertone has a glow for walking around and the Sun Bum is waterproof and good for your skin.

You can bring your own products, even if you aren't checking luggage. This collection of bottles, jars, and sprays will allow you to bring whatever you want.

If you’ve seen my list of face and makeup picks, I’m sure you knew there was a selection of body and hair ones to come! I am forever trying new products. A friend of mine, who is a beautician, got me started with this. I always used purple condition when I wanted to get rid of brass in my hair. The problem is that it strips the yellow blonde when it’s really the orange I want gone. I’ve switched to an occasional blue conditioner instead.

I’ve often been told I look younger than my 63 years. I give a lot of credit to genetics, but I also have spent time trying to find the right products for my skin.

There are two important things I suggest to help keep your skin in the best shape possible. The first is to stay out of the sun as much as possible. Absolutely use sunscreen anytime you do. The other is that you don’t have to get stuck on one brand. It’s the products that matter. I use an assortment of brands.

As my mobility changes, I am always looking for easier ways to do things and improve pain. I’ve found these items to be very helpful. Whether you are a wheelchair user, frequently get colds or flu, or have arthritis, these items may be for you.

1. EaZyHold

The EazyHold products have been extremely helpful since I injured my arm last April. I have them on my toothbrush, utensils, and water bottles. EaZyHold is also good for young kids learning to hold things.

2. The Comfy for Your Feet

These aren’t quite socks or slippers, they are incredibly soft and warm booties. The thing I really like about them is they are very easy to put on and take off. Even though they are lo0se, they don’t fall down.

Now, I can see who is at my door with my phone, and decide if I need to get up.

5. Adaptive Clothing at Kohl’s

I have a port to make infusions easier. It’s difficult to access without undressing or having adaptable clothing. This clothing is usually very expensive. Kohl’s now has a line that provides Velcro and magnetic openings. I picked up a hooded sweatshirt that uses magnets to close to go with the tops that open by the neck for the port.

6. Full Leaf Tea Company Mullein Tea

I’ve heard a lot about Mullein Tea to help with breathing issues. I decided to try it for myself when Full Leaf Tea Company sent me some samples. It’s not a cure for lung issues, but I do find it helpful when I need to breathe better.

7. Flipbelt

It’s difficult to carry a pocketbook in a wheelchair. I use fanny packs a lot, but they can be bulky, and some airlines will consider them your one and only personal item. The Flipbelt is thin enough to fit under your clothes, but has room for your bordering pass, credit card, cash, and passport.

8. Autocane

Have you ever tried to climb into a truck or van and needed extra support? I discovered this inexpensive gadget that fits into the door latch and provides support for climbing. The Autocane is small enough to keep in your car for anyone who might need it.

11 Things You Need to Take on Your Cruise

There are many different cruise lines and countless types of ships, but one thing most have in common is lack of space for your things. The closets are small and bathroom storage is often non-existent. That doesn’t mean you can’t maximize the space for you and your cabinmate(s).

I’ve been on many cruises, and it’s taken me decades to get to the point where I have everything I need in my cabin. How many outfits you decide to bring and whether or not you are bringing clothing along for a formal night is a very personal decision, but the items below will definitely make your trip more comfortable and your cabin more efficient.

1. Power Strip or Cube

Cruise cabins, especially in older ships, are notorious for not having enough outlets. A power strip can be great to make sure you can plug in all of your devices. Check before you purchase one, though. Some ships will not let you bring power strips with surge protectors. If you aren’t sure, a power cube that goes right into the outlet might be a better idea.

2. Over the Door Shoe Organizer

No, I’m not advocating bringing a dozen pairs of shoes. This simple, inexpensive shoe organizer can do a lot more than hold shoes. Hang it over the bathroom door and use each compartment to store things you want to easily get to—sunblock, OTC meds, makeup, hair supplies, wipes, and anything else you use regularly.

3. Magnet Hooks

Many people don’t realize that cruise ship walls are made of steel and magnets will stick right to them. It’s a terrific way to hang things when you are out of closet space. I like the magnet hooks. I use them to hang jackets and hats by the door, and robes on the wall so they don’t take up bathroom space.

4. Rain Jacket

No matter where you are traveling, there’s always a chance of rain. A thin, packable jacket can go over whatever you are wearing and keep you from getting soaked. I especially like this one with built in UPF 50 so you can also use it for protection from the sun.

5. Sunblock

You do not want to ruin your vacation with sunburn and protecting it now will also be good for your skin in the future. Don’t wait until you arrive and pay twice as much for sunblock that you don’t really like. I love this one to use all over me, and this one to moisturize and protect my face.

6. Shawl

This isn’t just my cruise must have, it’s my every trip staple. A large shawl can have so many uses. You can use it as a blanket on a cold plane, wear it to dress up your outfit or keep you warm on a ship, or wrap it like a sarong over your bathing suit. This two-pack is a great deal that will give you two colors to mix and match outfits with.

7. Compression Socks

Compression socks are great for reducing swelling and pain in tired feet and legs. I like the Dr. Motion brand because they come in many colors, patterns, and styles. Sometimes you just want foot coverage and other times you want support up to your knees. This brand is very reasonably priced so you can get a selection.

8. Water Bottle

A water bottle is a must have for your cruise. You can fill it up before you leave for your day and keep hydrated during the day. You also may want to use it on the ship to keep putting water in (or other liquids if you have a drink package). I prefer a plastic one because it’s lightweight, but stainless steel is a better option if you want to also fill it with hot drinks.

9. Back-up Battery

You do not want to miss a great photo moment because your phone died and it’s not easy to find an outlet to charge when touring remote spots. Always have a battery backup in your bag. I like this one because it has the cords built right in and it’s lightweight.

10. Comfortable Shoes

You’ll be doing a lot of walking on and off the ship and it could be on a slippery ground. It’s important to make sure you have comfortable and secure shoes. At the same time, you want shoes that serve more than one purpose. I love my Skechers Go Walk Joy. I have them in black and they can be worn with just about anything.

11. Laundry Bag

Set up a laundry bag as soon as you get in your cabin. Put it away from your clean clothing. Keep anything dirty or sweaty in there so the things you are going to wear stay nice and fresh. Also, the full bag will be ready for laundry when you go home. There won’t be any guessing what needs to go into the wash.

10 Products that Make Wheelchair Use Easier

In the last year, I began using my scooter increasingly. I recently got a custom power wheelchair. I was surprised how different they are, not just in the way they work, but how I carry things when using them.

Here are some products I have found to be extremely helpful in day-to-day life. All of these are also on my store. I will be adding to there as I find items which are helpful. I do earn a small commission on some of these, so I appreciate you clicking through the links.

Multi-Use Backpack

One of the first things that concerned me about changing from a scooter to a wheelchair was the question of where to put my pocketbook. The answer came from one of the most respected travel writers I’ve known, whose luggage I’ve used for many years: the Samantha Brown To-Go 3 Ways To Wear Convertible Tote. The three ways are backpack, tote, and crossbody, making it east to go from the back of the wheelchair to the front of my body.

Mobility Scooter Rain Cover

The last thing you want to do when you are waiting for doors to open and trying to find curb cuts is to get soaked. This lightweight cover can protect you and your wheelchair or scooter.

Hands Free dog leash

It was so hard for me to walk the dog when I could no longer walk much. Teddy was wonderful in learning how to navigate next to me so he would never be near wheels, but I couldn.t seem to hold the leash while driving the scooter or chair. Someone told me about this hands-free leash, and it’s been a gamechanger.

Wheelchair Side Bag

I use this in and out of the house. It holds my phone, pills, and glasses so I don’t have to worry about what room I left them in. I can also keep a bottle of water, so I always have one.

Wheelchair Side Bag for Laptop

This bag is good for bigger items. I can put my laptop and kindle in it, use it to carry some snacks and dog treats.

Scooter & Wheelchair Cup Holder

I originally got this when I was using a walker. I got another for my mobility scooter. My power chair has one built in, but if you don’t in your wheelchair, I recommend it. It’s a perfect fit for my morning coffee.

Rug Grippers

It wasn’t too bad with the scooter, but when I started using the power wheelchair I was constantly getting caught up in and moving around my bathroom rugs! These grippers are wonderful. It says wood, but I have them on tile and they work great to keep the rugs from moving.

Set of two sliding organizers

I saw this and it looked like a good idea. I was right. We re-organized my deep cabinets and these slides right out, so everything is closer to my chair.

Coffee Maker Sliding Storage Organizer Rack

I love this! It solves so many issues. First, I have a place to keep my pods. I confess that I like to have a lot of options. Then, the whole shelf—coffee pot and pod holder—slides forward so I can move the pot out from the counter and get it closer to me to fill the water and turn it on. There’s also side holders for mugs, and a place to put my frother.

My Devices
I just switched to a custom power chair for the majority of my use because my doctors and therapists felt it is more stable. Insurance only covers very few wheelchairs and one heavy duty scooter. I still have my old scooter I had purchased before I qualified for one.

I’ve been asked which one I have. This is the scooter: Buzzaround Carryon. It’s only 65 lbs. and folds down for rolling. If I don’t have my van or another with room for my 365 lb. power chair, I use this.

Royal Princess Inside Passage Alaska: Preparation and Embarkation

Off we go!

This trip was on my bucket list as Alaska was my 50^th state. I probably spent more time in the planning than I had with any cruise ever. I wanted everything to work out as well as possible and I didn’t leave anything to chance.

When you are traveling with an assisted device, no matter what your disability is, it requires additional planning. In my case I have multiple chronic illnesses. I am able to walk some, but definitely not any distance. I am currently using a motorized scooter and have ordered a custom power wheelchair.

The first step in the process is to make sure that the ship you are going on is accessible. I know this seems like a given in the year 2023, but it’s not. There are boats that do not have elevators or have room entrances a wheelchair will not fit in.

Next, you want to make sure you can get around where you are going. It’s alright to find you have to spend time on board and miss one or two excursions, but you don’t want to miss everything.

The Royal Princess met both these needs. They had accessible cabins in various categories. We were able to get one with a balcony, so I could see a lot of things I might not get close to in a scooter.

They also had excursions at every port that were able to accommodate my scooter. There was only one port that required a tender, which is a small boat between the ship that takes you to the port, but even that one looked like it would work out (details about excursions in a later post).

Once these details were taken care of, we received our confirmation and were able to start making plans for the trip. Princess Cruises makes it pretty easy. They have a Medallion App and website where you can book your excursions pre-cruise. This is extremely important when you are trying to get on the wheelchair accessible ones.

You can also use the app to pre-book your spa treatments and dinner reservations. All of this is done with your name linked to any disabilities, special needs, and/or allergies, so they are aware of anything that needs to be done before your arrival in a restaurant or at an activity.

Book Hotels, Car & Van Rentals at Accessible Go

The Cruise Personalizer will allow you to enter most of this information in advance. Then there is a form to fill out for excursions, with the exact size of your scooter or wheelchair and your limitations. If what you planned to bring is too big, or it works better for you to not travel with it to the ship, you can rent a scooter or wheelchair and have it brought directly to and from your cruise.

With the Princess Medallion app, you’ve also uploaded your photo and passport. Some cruises, like ours, go roundtrip from the United States so U.S. citizens can use a birth certificate for the trip. I think it is safer for anytime you go into international waters to have a passport.

The medallion bracelet, which does everything from proving who you are to getting drinks delivered to you (more about that in another post) can be sent to your home before you leave. You can also print out your luggage tags online so all you need to board your cruise with Princess is your bracelet.

Embarkation is done on a rolling basis, whenever is convenient. This was my first cruise with Princess, and I wasn’t completely convinced that this was a smooth a process as it sounded. I decided we’d get on the ship around one o’clock, not too early, and not too late. It was a good choice as there were no lines.

The only problem was that I had decided at the last minute to give the porter one of my carry-ons -- the one with the Medallion bracelets! We had a few extra steps to get onboard, but it was all done fairly quick.

The only other issue with embarkation was a bit of a struggle getting on a large ship with my scooter. The ramps are very steep, however, there were crew members behind me pushing and making sure I made it to the top.

It all turned out much better than any embarkation I’ve had. We were on the Royal Princess about 45 minutes after our shuttle pulled up at Smith Cove Terminal in Seattle, Washington. A few minutes later we were in Alfredo’s Pizzeria, ordering lunch and sipping sparkling wine!

I just returned from my bucket list Alaska cruise with Princess. Before I left, I was looking for as much information as I could find about the itinerary, ports, ships, and cabins. It was hard to find and the places I did find some of it was popular.

I've decided to post this missing information, not only from this cruise, but from other cruises, hotels, and attractions. Look for videos and photos coming soon. I'll also have travel trips and tips. I'll also be concentrating on accessible travel information as I now travel exclusively in a power wheelchair or motorized scooter.

Another option to relax…

The times are changing. It’s no longer just alcoholic drinks people are relaxing with. Cannabis drinks are becoming more popular and the Loki seltzers have been top rated.

I really liked the flavor of the Lavender Peach, and I had a friend try, and also enjoy the Blackberry Lemon. There is no sugar in them and only five calories. These have 20 mg of hemp derived Delta 8.

I am not an expert on the subject, but the Sip Loki website explains more about its properties. While not THC, it does have similar properties. It is legal in 34 states. I have to admit that I did feel the relaxing properties, probably equivalent to two glasses of wine.

Still flavoring my coffee…

I’m still making it through the carton of Jordan's Skinny Syrups I received. This month I tried the Maple Pecan syrup. Peppermint Mocha Sauce and Salted Caramel Sauce.
The Maple Pecan is subtlety sweet for coffee and pancakes. I used the Salted Caramel for a Caramel Macchiato, and also in ice cream. The Peppermint Mocha is really good for ice cream too, but my favorite is making a cream drink with frothed milk and the sauce!

With a new milk…

I have tried a lot of different milks since becoming sensitive, but I had never heard of BamNut Milk.

The Bamnut has more protein and fiber than most other milks as it is actually a legume. The milks have little sugar and work well in coffee and cooking. I didn’t notice a big difference in the three types, but I couldn’t drink much because they do have coconut oil in them, an ingredient I don’t tolerate well.

More BamNut …

I love pasta of any kind, but had so much I needed a friend to help out with the Noods Noodbox from WhatIF’s. The box included four varieties of noodles with matching sauces, made from BamNut.

It’s interesting how everyone has their own opinions and needs, and I would like to present both. While the taste was very good, my friend felt the $12.50 was too much without being organic or having animal protein.

I eat mostly vegetarian, so I feel it is a reasonable cost for vegan noodles with high protein and less fat than cheap ramen noodles. I am less concerned with organic food.

The favorite is the Moringa Noodles with Sesame Garlic were the favorite. Amazon sells this flavor as well as the variety pack.

Protein Filled Breakfast…

While we are on the protein subject, Happy Day Brands ProteinPancake and Waffle Mix is a good choice. It is an all-natural, non-GMO whole grain mix.

You will get 15 grams of protein in a serving, with only four grams of sugar. If you use milk instead of water, you can add more protein, but a little more sugar. You’ll also be helping out as Happy Day donates to local food bank partners for every purchase.

A few tips: don’t over stir the better if you like fluffy pancakes. Also, note that there is a strong cinnamon flavor, which is a plus for me, but may not be for everyone.

It’s always time for ice cream…

I love ice cream any time of year and I had a lot of fun making some with Hijinx. No ice cream machine is needed. Just use a blender to put your favorite ingredients together for your preferred flavor. The only requirement is milk and the best part of Hijinx is that you can use any milk you want.

I put together low-fat milk (the mix does have a high 11-gram fat content), peanut butter cups, and a swirl of peanut butter and it was delicious. I just put it in a container in the freezer for four hours. It’s a great activity to do with the kids and useful to those who can’t eat ice cream with cow’s milk.

Cashews, chocolate & gravy?…

While in college in Flint, Michigan, Adit Agrawal struggled with his weight and finding healthy foods. A trip back to his native India encouraged him to work with his father and start Alco Foods.

The company makes Masala spices and Indian gravy mixes, but what I received were their Alco Eats Sweet Cashews. I’ve always been a fan of cashews and these healthy nuts are even better when covered with chocolate espresso, cinnamon sugar, or white chocolate. Despite the term “sweet,” I didn’t find them too sugary at all. In fact, the Chocolate Espresso Cashews only have 4.5 grams of natural sugar.

Another spiked coffee…

Spiked coffees have been all the rage in the last year. From K-cups to ground, I’ve received quite a few. Now, there’s Café Agave Cold Brew cans.

These are 12.5% alcohol so I don’t suggest them with breakfast, but the blends of dark arabica coffee are tasty flavors: Salted Caramel, Vanilla Cinammon, Café Mocha, and Espresso Shot. The agave refers to the only sweetener used. As for the alcohol, it’s kosher wine.

Mix the Mary’s…

Mary’s Mixers start with the Bloody Mary mixes, but don’t end there. The Pineapple Jalapeño is a perfect accompaniment to tequila. The original Bloody Mary Mix is tasty and the Spicy Bloody Mary should be taken seriously. Both are done with a pickle brine produced in house.

I did have one caution with Mary’s Mixers. The flavors on the bottle didn’t necessarily represent what is inside. I was looking forward to the Dark Cherry Pomegranate until I read that it’s loaded with tangerine, lime, and key lime juice (I’m allergic to citrus).

Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year

Unfortunately, I’m ending the year about the way I began, with my health dominating. I just had ankle reconstruction and have not gotten through all the products I’ve gotten the last few months. Truthfully, this is the only story I’ve done since the surgery and painkillers do not go with wine and spirits, so I’m afraid most of those are going to have to wait. Here’s what I have enjoyed lately.

Coconut for a purpose…

The benefits of coconut oil can go on and on. The top of the list for me is as a moisturizer. I’ve yet to find anything that can make my skin retain moisture like it. It’s also a great hair conditioner, sunblock, cooking oil and more.

Dignity Raw Coconut Oil does all these things as good, or better, than the rest, but its history makes it much more in need of purchase. I received a selection of products from PCM, including their signature Puff Cuff, a gentle way of putting thick hair behind you. I tried the moisturizer and loved the way it felt on my skin and body, and had a male friend check out the beard conditioner and brush, which he is still using.

Hold that cup…

Anyone who has tried to balance a suitcase, cell phone, and water bottle will be happy to see the Riemont Drink Caddy. This gadget will hold to drinks or a drink and a cellphone.

The thing about this holder that is different from the others I’ve had is that it is a soft material rather than a hard plastic. It’s easy to store and isn’t subject to the breakage of the hard ones. It is available on Amazon.

An answer for vegan cream cheese lovers…

I’ve actually wanted to try The Original Sunflower Cream Cheese ever since I heard about it, so I was happy to receive a selection. I really enjoyed the original and, since I need to limit my dairy, it is a nice to have another option for “cream cheese.”

Another vegan idea…

Chef Woo Ramen is plant-based meal in a cup that contains 20 mg protein. The healthy amount is thanks to peas, and despite flavors such as “beef” and “chicken,” there is no actual meat.

The Sweet Chili was too spicy for me, but a friend who enjoys more heat than I do really enjoyed it. Iiked the Roasted Chicken and Braised Beef. This dish is not only quick and easy to make, but Walmart is selling them for only $2, making it an inexpensive, healthy meal.

My favorite vegan dish of the month…

One product stood out among the others this month for vegan meals. Chi Foods Plant-Based Pork is quite impressive in taste and ease of use. It just needs to be heated and added to whatever you want. The organic ingredients include items like fava beans and inchi nuts.

I took a package of the Italian, heated it in my marina sauce, and poured it over linguine. It was delicious! No one could guess that there wasn’t meat in my meat sauce. The Original and Chorizo (works well in tacos) are also good.

Tasty treats you’ll love…

My sweet tooth is not a secret, so cookies are always welcome here. The best ones I’ve had in a long time came from Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop. They arrived fresh and stayed soft, with two cookies packaged together.

My favorite was the Chocolate Chip… Double Chocolate Peppermint… Molasses Spice… I guess I really can’t decide. I may have to grab another from the freezer (yes, they freeze well) to see.

A wine to add to my favorites…

I’ve previously talked about my favorite wine, which is a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I was just introduced to another from that region, and has moved onto the favorite list. This family-owned, sustainable winery has perfected the country’s most exportable drink.

The organic Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has that distinguishable taste of kiwi, lime, and green apple, with a bit of earthiness you only get from that varietal. It’s also priced around only $15 a bottle.

Rivaling Starbucks…

My countertop currently looks like a local coffee shop thanks to a carton I received from Jordan's Skinny Syrups. I confess to using some of these before, but I am slowly discovering many more flavors – and I haven’t yet touched the cocktail mixes.

On my current recommendation list: White Chocolate Mocha, which is especially good with Macadamia’s White Chocolate Mocha Peppermint Milk; Sugar Cookie, a delicious flavor that isn’t as sweet as it sounds; and Salted Carmel Mocha, a nice combination of flavors that also comes in a sauce for the top of your latte, hot chocolate, or ice cream.

Healthy Choices

I know most people associated getting healthy with January, but it’s something I try to think about every day. I love my desserts while making sure my body also gets healthy foods and products. It’s all about moderation and I believe that’s what should be stressed from the beginning.

Just what my eyes need…

When I was approached by Cornea Care to try their products, I didn’t have to think long about that one. I am under treatment for dry eyes as well as heliotrope eyes and have a lot of eye pain.

I can honestly say I am overwhelmed with how soothing these products have been for me. I start my day with the Rise Wipes, which have hyaluronic acid and tea tree oil. After wiping my eyes, I then use the wipe on the rest of my face. I use Rest, the self-heating eye mask, every night before I go to sleep and Rescue cooling masks whenever my eyes need a little extra relief.

Cooking fun with the kids…

I haven’t met too many kids who weren’t excited and anxious to join in cooking. The founders of I’m The Chef Too have found a good way to package this.

Since I don’t have any school aged children, I asked some friends to check this out with their kids. I gave them the Volcano Chocolate Cake box. It was something that the kids were interested in and the were learning as they were being entertained.

The kids did learn from the activity, but the Volcano Chocolate Cake was pretty quick to put together and the children lost patience then having to wait to eat it. It sounds like this particular one was better for older children with more patience, and the younger ones were better off with one of the other options.

Keep those electrolytes on track…

I am always on the lookout for protein and sports drinks so I agreed to give Karviva Ace Sports drinks a try. I am impressed by the ingredients and nutritional value, loaded with antioxidants. I do confess I had mixed feelings about whether or not I liked the taste, but considering I finished two bottles, I can’t say it was bad!

A garlic lover’s friend…

I’m still making it through the cases of barbecue rubs, spices, and sauces I’ve received. This month I picked up Burn Pit BBQ Ground Pounder all-purpose garlic for a quick air-fry dinner.

All I did was put my chicken wings in a Ziploc with the spice mix to coat, and then put them in my air fryer for 30 minutes. While they were in there, I sliced up some potatoes, spritzed some olive oil, and sprinkled them with the seasoning. I put them in the air fryer for the last 15 minutes.

It was delicious, but I do have to warn you that its as condensed powder, so you don’t need to use too much. Purchase Burn Pit BBQ products at Amazon.

WarPig BBQ makes award-winning barbecue sauces and donates a portion of profits to veteran-focused charities. I tried their SNAFU sauce on my pulled pork last week and it was really good. It was fruity with a bit of a kick.

A Little of Everything

July has always included a lot of tequila, since National Tequila Day is on my birthday (24^th). Things are a bit different this year as I’m cutting down on spirits as I have started a new treatment. I’m hoping to get to the point where I am not apologizing for running late on everything because I wasn’t feeling well! In the meantime, be patient with me. Everything I like will eventually make it to this blog.

There was some wine…

The photos of Trapiche Winery of Argentina, where they do not use any chemicals or herbicides near the grapes, are incredible. It’s a winery that started in 1883 and followed automated as needed through the years. Despite doing all this, they have managed to keep to a very reasonable price point.

If you are looking for a budget Malbec, Trapiche’s 2021 is a good deal at $7.99. It’s full of dark fruit, yet is quite light for a red wine. The Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon is a similar price and a bargain if you are looking for a richer wine. You’ll find more notes of the oak cask in this one.

For something just a little sweeter, and even more environmentally friendly, you’ll want to check out Sandy Giovese. It’s a play on the Italian grape that’s an easy to drink red, especially in the summer, Sangiovese. This is red fruit in its ripeness. It’s the red wine you can chill without feeling like you are doing something wrong.

It’s easy to chill Sandy Giovese because it’s in a box that can stay in your refrigerator for up to a month after you open it. It’s environmentally friendly as the one box contains the equivalent to four bottles of wine, making it much easier to bring to a party or barbecue.

Start with the prep…

Before you drink the wine, you need to prep the food. I love the Fab Slabs cutting boards I received. Mark T. Wendell’s Mango Black Tea is so filled with fruit flavor (you can see the pieces of mango) that Teddy, my mango loving Yorkie, kept trying to get the tin open! Drinking it definitely made me feel like I was at an afternoon tea and a luxury hotel.

The Amazon Mango Green Tea from Mark T. Wendell wasn’t quite as intense. I added a little honey to it and it made a refreshing iced tea.

Sip and Slay is the other brand of mango tea I received. This blend was also fruit filled and delicious. It’s an interesting brand, founded on the belief that every woman should have more self-care, love, and positive vibes in their life. I absolutely love their reusable plastic tea bag to put their loose tea in.

Coffee for a cause…

Time to Barbecue (in or out)

I’ve seen a lot of my mail carrier and FedEx this last month. I haven’t even gotten to half of it, but I did discover some fantastic products that I wanted to pass along.

The perfect tote…

You can use this Urban Originals for just about anything. It’s even large enough for my 10 lb. Yorkie! It’s vegan leather, making it light and easy to clean. I especially love the color combinations in this Riviera Stripes Tote. It also matches my luggage and just about anything I would wear.

Turn on the grill… or air fryer… or crockpot…

I received a lot of barbecue rub this last month. I have not gotten to all of it yet, but I did want to share some my friends and I used for cooking and really enjoyed. Rubs are an easy way to spice up your meat and chicken. I know they are great for the grill. I also tried them out with some other methods.

The Casa M. Spice products excited me with the idea that they had specific items for different products. They are also low in sodium. I didn’t have to decide which one to use on which meat (though you certainly can mix and match). I decided to do a pulled pork with Casa M. Spice Whole Hog rub in the crockpot.

The pork came out tender and delicious. I did add a bit more rub at the end for added flavor as I don’t think I was generous enough at the beginning.

I also did some wings with two other Casa M. Spice rubs. I put Pecking Order on the drumettes and Chain Reaction on the wings. I cooked them in the air fryer (15 minutes on each side). They were moist and flavorful, with a bit of crisp on the skin. The Peking order was a perfect mix of flavor while Chain Reaction was hotter, but not four alarm. I’d recommend them both. I have a few more of their products to try.

Keep it hot…

Burn Pit BBQ also sent some rubs, but to avoid confusion, I’m saving those for next month. My friend, Leslie, didn't want to wait to try the Burn Pit BBQ Hot Brass Sauce. She got creative and used it to make a spicy pork fried rice.

Pour the wine...

Yalumba Y Series Viognier is definitely a pick of mine for summer drinking. It’s light and just the amount of dryness so that it is filled with citrus and apricot, and not too sweet. I have to add that I had planned on sampling some other wines but couldn’t get my friends to put this South Australian find down until the bottle was empty!

Don’t forget the sunscreen…

I never leave the house without sunscreen, and I always want one that is gentle on my skin yet provides good coverage. SunPlus lived up to these demands. It’s light and blends easy and it doesn’t burn my eyes. This sunblock, which has been used at luxury resorts such as the Ritz Carlton Bacara in Santa Barbara, is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants so it can also help make your skin look younger.

Even More Coffee and Wine

When a trend hits, it hits, and that’s the case in the past year with two popular products: canned wine and spiked coffee. I received some more this past month and enjoyed them enough to pass them along.

The ideal spritzer…

I’m old enough to remember the white wine spritzer days, when adding club soda to wine was an acceptable way of having a “light” drink. This idea has come back in an even more convenient way.

Wine Water is perfect for your summer tote. It’s just French wine and sparkling water. There is no sugar or artificial flavors. A can is only 69 calories and a low alcohol of 4.9% so you can imbibe without feeling like you are drinking too much.

The Sauvignon Blanc Wine Water is my favorite. It’s very flavorful with distinct citrus, notably grapefruit and lemon.

A special cold brew...

The other trend I am seeing a lot of is spiked coffee, but Whisper Creek Tennessee Sipping Cream is the first cold brew one I’ve tried.

These coffees are cold brewed and infused with whiskey and natural flavors, like cocoa. They come in cans so they are easy to transport and will give you a caffeine boost with your cocktail.

The Original is very good, but much stronger than I expected (it is 12.5 ABV). I prefer the Mocha to drink straight. I also suggest making a “Frappuccino” with ice and a blender. You won’t be sorry.

Another Fireman’s special blend…

I really enjoy the Fire Department Coffee Vanilla Bean Bourbon so I was more than happy to try their latest, Irish Cream.

The Fire Department Coffee Irish Whiskey did not disappoint. It’s also delicious and available in ground or beans. All you need to do is top it with a little whip cream and you have a ready-made Irish Coffee.

Speaking of coffee, I received a Christmas gift that I use at least once every day.

I’ve previously purchased frothers and they either didn’t work well or didn’t last long. This Instapot one is different. It’s a 4 in 1 so you can warm, foam cold, foam warm, or warm and thick foam. I’ve tried it with different types of milk, and it works quickly to make my morning lattes.

I know the last few years have been very strange for all of us. I hope that things start to normalize soon, whatever the “new normal” may be.

I’m trying to catch up on the products I have for testing, but also wanted to write a bit about a not so new bargain brand of cosmetics I fell in love with. As usual, there are affiliate links in this column and I always appreciate earning a little when my readers click on them.

Spread the fruit…

A selection of jam is something that’s always in my house. Whether it’s on an English muffin or a waffle, with peanut butter, cream cheese, or on its own, I love spreadable fruit. The only problem is that many brands are filled with tons of sugar and additives.

I was more than happy to try Crofter’s Organic in three of my favorite flavors: cherry, raspberry, and peach. Crofter’s is a family business that not only makes organic fruit spreads that are low in calories and sugar, and don’t cost a fortune.

I loved all the flavors. You can purchase Crofter’s Organic fruit spreads at your local store, or on Amazon.

I’ll have the sweet potatoes…

Since gluten-free became as much of a lifestyle for some as it is a health issue for others, I’ve seen vodkas made from a lot of different products (I was not a fan of the milk). Most don’t really taste much different than what you are used to and, let’s face it, vodka doesn’t have a huge flavor profile to the untrained mouth.

I was intrigued by a vodka made from produce I eat all the time: sweet potatoes. It’s not an easy one to make as it requires 10 pounds of sweet potatoes to make one bottles, plus harvesting, curing, cleaning, cooking, and fermenting before the distillation even begins.

The question here is whether all this work is worth it. In my opinion, yes. This central California distillery has been around since 1917 and is known for its farming as well as award-winning spirits. This is another winner, with a hint of the potato’s sweetness that makes me think of getting out the cinnamon and marshmallows. That makes it a great addition to a Bloody Mary.

At about $30, Corbin Cash Sweet Potato Vodka is reasonable and well worth trying.

More peanut butter and chocolate to love…

Peanut butter is a food group of its own around here and I use PBFit products all the time. My favorite is the peanut butter chocolate blend. I love to mix it and pour it over pancakes, or add some powder to my cereal. I have made smoothies with it, but I always added in protein powder – until now.

PBFit now has Chocolate Plus, a peanut and plant protein powder with chocolate. Three scoops has only 150 calories with a whopping 20 grams of protein. There are no sugar alcohols and the sugar content is still only at five grams. Since its protein comes from peas, it’s also vegan and dairy free (the chocolate is from cacao powder, not chocolate made with milk).

My makeup discovery is also a bargain…

It was a tough year and I started looking at ways to save money. Even though I wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup, I realized the brand I was using did cost quite a bit more than most. I decided that would be one of the first budget cuts I would made.

I did some experimenting and fell in love with e.l.f. cosmetics. They cost about a tenth of what my previous brand did and I actually found I liked them better-especially the putty. By kids, for charity…

I love things created by children and this one is extra special because the kids are using their talent and ability to help others. They even have special socks for illnesses and organizations, such as autism and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

The kids in charge are Brandon and Sebastian Martinez. They are now 15 and 13 respectively, but they first started their company in 2014! It was first done for local fundraising and then they took it national.

The socks are adorable and well made. They are also quite comfortable.

Gentle scents for the home…

When it comes to perfumes, aromatherapy, or air fresheners, I always feel like less is more and Bags + Stella agrees with me.

The California company makes all natural products for the home, including candles, diffusers, and room sprays. I received a sampling of all, each in individual cloth bags, perfect for enjoying or giving. The fragrances are all mild, and I love the little touches, such as the small opening in the diffuser to avoid spillage and the little glass container of matches that is also decorative.

We all know someone who struggles with pain and has tried just about everything. This isn’t a cure, but it’s certainly something to take the edge off and get you a big thank you.

Here’s a fun gift, whether you give the flour or make the bread as a gift.

As much as I love to cook at bake, I’m not a fan of working with yeast. I very rarely make breads that require it. That was the first thing that excited me about Pereg Challah Flour – they put the yeast right in it.

Wine, Spirits and Coffee (Together)

I have never received as much coffee before as I have in the past two months. The interesting thing is that there is a spirited theme to all of it. I also had a bit of wine in the mix, as well as a few tasty surprises.

Fruity deliciousness…

Maison Ferrand makes Mathilde fruit liqueurs that are handcrafted with ripe fruit and French spirits. I received two bottles to try out and they were exceptional.

The Mathilde Raspberry reminded me of Chambord, but it’s not quite as thick and is even more filled with raspberry flavor. I enjoyed sipping it over ice. It would be a wonderful addition to any cocktail (definitely a martini), hot chocolate, or coffee.

The Mathilde Peach is delicious and reminded me more of a summer day with a lighter cocktail or mixed with club soda . I’d also love this in a frozen drink, such as a daiquiri or margarita.

French wine launch…

I wasn’t able to make the official tasting, but I still got to sample the launch of LGV wines. These French wines are made by predominately female wine makers who have been critically acclaimed. They also believe in keeping the process good for the environment and the wine drinkers.

First, I’d like to give a huge shoutout to whomever designed the individual bottles. They are plastic and easy to carry, and a very reasonable serving. The Le Grand Verre Domaine Caylus Rosé 2020 was my favorite, fruit-filled and light enough for a fall picnic. It’s also from a region I visited and tasted my way through, Languedoc-Roussillon.

The two 2019 reds, Le Grand Verre Domaine Nadal Hainaut and Le Grand Verre Château Peyredon, are also quite good. The Domaine Nadal Hainaut is a cabernet sauvignon, full of blackberry and cassis, while the Château Peyredon adds merlot into the mix, giving it more of a red fruit mouth.

All of the LGV wines are reasonably priced from $25-30 for four individual bottles.

Make some food to go with it…

Tre Olive sent me some of their extra virgin olive oil. I tasted it and was impressed with how light it was, making it a great salad dressing mixer. The real test is in the cooking.

I used it to sauté garlic for my sauce and it cooked light and full of flavor. I’ve since been using it as my first choice in preparing foods and I highly recommend it.

Bourbon in my coffee…

Whether you chose it whole bean or ground, you will want to pick up a package of Fire Department Coffee Vanilla Bean Spirit Infused. I have never had such a taste-filled coffee straight from the pot, without the need to add anything too it.

The bourbon was there, but subtle, and the vanilla was deliciously pronounced. Best of all, profits are for a good cause, helping first responders.

They also have an espresso, which is bold, but not harsh, that’s worth getting too. You can purchase all the Fire Department Coffees on their website.

Quick and easy hot cocktails…
I think the case from Cask & Kettle was one of my favorite packages this year. This ingenious idea puts alcohol directly in coffee (and apple cider) K-Cups.

These are not lightweight cocktails. They range from 60 to 76 proof. There are five different varieties of Cask & Kettle and there are instructions on using them if you don’t have a Keurig coffee maker. I do so it was simple to try them and I enlisted some friends as I tried them all.

I liked them all. The Mexican Coffee had just the right amount of tequila so it was sweet, but not overpowering. The Irish Coffee, the most potent with both vodka and Irish whisky, was a less sugary treat, but that was made up for with some whip cream on top. The Apple Cider had just a subtle hint of vodka and the spice of fall fruit.

It’s tough to pick my favorite of the Cask & Kettle cups as I’m torn between the Hot Blonde, a strong, sweet vanilla with vodka, and the Mint Patty, which tastes just like its namesake with a vodka surprise.

They are a good deal at $15 for warm cocktails, especially with the colder nights approaching. You can buy them in most places alcohol is sold.

A CBD surprise from Martha…

I recently had a stay at Sable at Navy Pier and received a selection of Martha Stewart’s CBD collection, made with Canopy Growth.

I’ve tried quite a few CBD topicals with mixed results but these were very different: gummies and flavored sparkling water. The drink I had was Cucumber Mint and, in addition to feeling a little bit more relaxed, the taste was delicious. I’d say the same about the Berry Medley Gummies.

Getting Healthy for Summer

I have lots of healthy and plant-based selections for this month, but I couldn’t not mention tequila. After all, July 24^th is National Tequila Day – a.k.a. my birthday!

A tastier gluten-free option...

I love sweet potatoes so I was more than happy to receive some Let’s Do Organic Sweet Potato Flour made from the vegetables from my friends at Edward & Sons.

This flour is full of flavor and fiber. It also holds moisture better than a lot of other flours. I was excited to put this together with chocolate. My Loaded Sweet Potato Brownies were a big hit.

Tip: sweet potato flour can burn at lower temperatures than other flours, so avoid it (or mix it) in recipes that cook at high temperatures.

Then there’s Casava…

I didn’t know much about casava before the flour bag came along. It’s made from the cassava root so it is gluten and grain-free. It’s also high in Vitamin C.

Casava flour can easily substitute 1:1 for regular flour. I haven’t had a chance to create anything unique with it yet, but I did try the small batch Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe on the back of the Let’s Do Organic Cassava Flour bag. They were delicious! There was just a little bit of extra flavor in there.

More plant based cooking…

Ecuadora Organic Hearts of Palm Lasagne is a most unusual product. Personally, I have a problem calling vegetables pasta. Maybe it’s my Italian background. That doesn’t mean I don’t thoroughly enjoy meatless dishes and know there are many around me who do often cook with noodles made from veggies.

Regardless of which category you fall into, it’s definitely work giving this product a try. It’s not going to get me to give up a pan of lasagna, but I love the combo of hearts of palm, tomato sauce, and cheese.

If you are looking to keep your dish vegan, Edward & Sons has you covered on that too. Parma! is plant-based parmesan cheese. I was really leery about this one. It surprised me with how much it tasted like the real thing. It also worked in consistency.

It’s Better Than Milk…

It seems like there’s a new type of milk every time you turn around. I’m one who doesn’t get along with a lot of dairy in my diet and, unfortunately, the same goes for almond, coconut, and oat.

I had never tried rice milk and was excited to do so when I was sent samples from Better Than Milk. In this case, what I liked best was that it didn’t have much taste. It is perfect for adding to cereal, smoothies, and other recipes where you don’t want to add an extra flavor.

The Better Than Milk Rice Hazelnut is the opposite. It’s has that nutty flavor and I could definitely drink it straight, or in a smoothie I wanted more taste in. It was also good in my Cream of Wheat, waffles, and pancakes.

As for the other Better Than Milk varieties, I had some friends taste the Almond and Oat drinks and they thought they were some of the best they’ve had.

A different kind of CBD…

I haven’t found a lot of luck with health benefits from CBD, though I do use CBD Living’s Roll-on every day. The combination of menthol and CBD helps ease my back pain. I was too intrigued by ZV Botanicals not to give their bitters a try. After all, when do I say no when it has to do with cocktails?

ZV Botanicals combines Ayurveda, an ancient medicine, herbs in their products. They are all organic and handcrafted. Included in their selection are massage oils, healing salves, mouth pull oil, therapeutic tinctures, and digestive bitters.

It was the last item that I was very curious about. These full-spectrum CBD bitters are made for your drinks, whether they are alcoholic or water.

The LIFT has a bit of licorice flavor and is not at all bitter thanks to a tiny bit of sugar. You don’t need to create anything fancy for this one. A couple of drops in your sparkling wine would make a cocktail in itself and you might even see some health benefits. It’s also a good way to put some natural flavor in your vodka.

I also received Rosé LOVE Bitters from ZV Botanicals. This was a completely different taste, which I also enjoyed. It follows its name with lots of floral notes. While it’s suggested with gin, I wouldn’t mix it with a spirit already loaded in botanicals. I would put it in its namesake, Rosé wine, and if you don’t have any, it’s a perfect addition to that inexpensive white you weren’t sure you like! It would also be excellent in iced tea (even the alcoholic one).

Happy National Tequila Day...

Canned cocktails are becoming more popular as people are hitting the outdoors. Tequila Cazadores provided me with my first experience with tequila ones and it won’t be the last.

The three options give a nice variety of what you’d expect from tequila cocktails. The Margarita has that true lime flavor, even though it mentions orange liqueur as an ingredient. It’s as refreshing as a margarita should be.

Paloma is heavy on the grapefruit juice, which is a good mixer for tequila and keeps with the summertime theme. As for the Spicy Margarita, it wasn’t at all spicy, and very similar to the regular Margarita.

Addition to the bucket list…
I haven’t traveled to Mexico in a long time, but there’s an item on my bucket list that seems appropriate for me to mention on this special birthday I’m celebrating today.

The Jose Cuervo Express Train is an experience tequila lovers will never forget. It takes you from Tequila (the town) to Guadalajara in a luxurious train while you learn about the spirit and taste cocktails between stops. You’ll even get to tour the agave fields.

March Madness

It’s all about March Madness around here as the Fighting Illini are not only back in the NCAA Championship, but they are the No. 2 team in the country. Whether or not you are cheering a specific team, it is nice to know that sporting events are coming back.

Celebrate your hometown…

I got to celebrate the first round of the tournament with some special glassware from Well Told College Town. They decided to do something a little different with their university memorabilia. Instead of logos, these have maps of the actual cities on them. I loved the two (one orange, one blue) glasses of the downtowns of Champaign and Urbana.

Light wine…

The games will be going on for two weeks, so you don’t want to overdo on the drinks. I love Rosé Water, which conveniently comes in cans. It reminds me of a wine spritzer (the kind you got in the bar, not the bottle). It tastes like wine and club soda, but since it’s rose from Boudreaux, it’s a little more flavorful than a white wine spritzer. Each can is only 69 calories. There’s no sugar and only 4.9% abv.

Another for easy sipping…

Stewart’s Premium Spiked Seltzer is another light option for watching the games. Each can is 100 calories, gluten free, and vegan. They have just a tiny amount (no more than 01g added sugar). The alcohol is also low at 5%.

Black Cherry and Orange Cream were the favorites. They also come in Raspberry Lime and Root beer.

Don’t forget the protein...

The Elxr Co has a great blend of superfoods to make a delicious, healthy protein shake with.* The Balance Superfood Protein Powder. It’s dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and said to improve cholesterol and signs of aging. At 160 calories, 22 grams of protein, and only two grams of sugar, it’s a nutritional powerhouse, but a bit pricey at $67.

Kind for Equality...

Kind Bars are always a tasty, natural choice for snacking, but the company also is about doing good. They set me some of their KIND Bars Equality Salted Carmamel Dark Chocolate Almond Bars. A Different Holiday Season

It’s usually a month of celebration with family and friends. Things were certainly quite different this year. That doesn’t mean we still can’t celebrate, even if you are by yourself.

Pour yourself a glass of one of this month’s finds and get ready for the New Year with some new healthy choices.

Ultimate peppermint for the season…

I couldn’t think of a better spirit for the winter than RumChata Peppermint Bark. It’s rich and creamy, and full of mint flavor, without being overpowering. It’s a rum candy cane I want on the rocks, in my coffee, and definitely in my hot chocolate. (For more ideas, check out the RumChata website.)

As delicious as RumChata Peppermint Bark is on its own, I could resist trying a recipe with it. Peppermint mocha is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. Here’s my recipe for some delectable Peppermint Mocha Fudge Brownies.

Bruno’s rum…

After trying SelvayRey Rum on vacation, Bruno Mars fell in love and started working with the company that distills in Panama.

They had me at “Chocolate Rum,” and it lives up to its tasty treat name. SelvayRey Chocolate Rum is not very sweet, with the infused chocolate sticking out to produce coffee notes and giving the opportunity to mix in a sugary chocolate pina colada, or more savory cocktails.

I'm also a fan of the SelvaRey White Rum has hints of fruit and vanilla, thanks to a blend of two different aged rums bourbon barrels.

Always time for tequila…

I’m always ready to try a new tequila and INSÓLITO did not disappoint. This also comes with musical support, from country music’s Midland. They teamed with the Herrera Brothers of Premium de Jalisco.

INSÓLITO’s unique flavor is credited to the elevation (7,200 feet) 80% of the agave is grown in, mixed with the balance from the lowlands.

I loved the INSÓLITO Blanco, sweet and smooth, and a bit more herby than fruity. The Reposado is also a good choice, with flavorful citrus and not too much sugar. I found the Anejo, aged for 18-24 months in new American oak, a bit too whiskey-like for my taste.

Wrap it in cheese…

Folio Cheese Wraps are a big win for anyone looking to eat healthy. They check all the boxes as gluten-free, high protein, keto, low carb, and even lactose free. Most of all, they are delicious and can be used in so many ways.

Folio Cheese are shaped like tortillas, but made completely out of cheese. You can wrap your sandwich inside or put them on top of your dish and give them a quick melt. I just put a parmesan (my favorite) on top of my pasta for a gooey dinner, and wrapped one over avocado for a healthy lunch.

The Folio Cheddar and Jarlsberg are also excellent. You can buy them in many supermarkets, or on Amazon.

Protein in a puff…

Shrewd Food Protein Puffs offer another healthy way to get your protein. The nutrition is impressive, with 14 grams of protein, less than two grams of sugar, and two carbs per package. They are easy to take with you too.

I received a selection of all their flavors. The Nacho Cheese was definitely my favorite, but my friends and I enjoyed the Brick Oven Pizza, Baked Cheddar, and Strawberry & Cream. The only one I was not fond of was the Cookies and Cream, which didn’t have much flavor.

Cauliflower power…

I confess that I am not on the cauliflower bandwagon. Don’t get me wrong, I love it as a vegetable, I just don’t see it as a substitute for every carb out there. When I was asked to try Cauli Crunch products, I went into it with that skepticism.

I have since learned that cauliflower can be a healthy, reasonable, and tasty substitute for breadcrumbs. Cauli Crunch is a great alternative, whether you are looking to save a few calories, add more vitamins, or stick to a diet that’s gluten-free and Vegan. I haven’t had a chance to get too creative yet, but it makes a great way to bread chicken as it’s got a nice crunch.

Make it eggless…

If you’ve ever tried to substitute eggs to make something vegan, you know what a challenge it can be. Vegg not only takes away some of that works, it is a healthy and tasty alternative.

Vegg is all plant-based, made from soy, yeast, magnesium, beta carotene, and black sea salt. It is an egg yolk substitute that can be used it cooking and baking. I tried the Vegg Egg Yolk in a muffin recipe and did not taste the difference, but what I really loved was the Vegg Power Scramble with 20 mg of protein. I added some spinach and mushrooms for more superfoods.

Don’t forget the anti-aging…
I’m pretty happy with my skin care routine these days so I wasn’t sure when I was approached by a Baebody rep about trying their Retinol Moisturizer. Then I did a little research and read that it was outselling its class on Amazon, and was only $19.99.

I discovered something very interesting when trying the Baebody Retinol Moisturizer. I was honestly not sure it was enough firming for my 50+ year old facial skin, but while the jury was still out on that one, I ran out of my body moisturizer one night. I decided to try it on some crepey areas I acquired during a recent weight loss.

While I’m still not sure it’s a facial cream for me, Baebody Retinol Moisturizer has made a huge difference in smoothing my calves, upper arms, knees, and elbows. I definitely suggest ordering the cream and trying it everywhere.

Holiday Gift Ideas

I have tried a salt cave and found it relaxing and felt my breathing to be a little better. I have been thinking about getting a Himalayan Salt Lamp at home so I was excited when I received this one to try out.

This is rather impressive for the $19.99 price. Not only does it contain the salt, but it has a wireless remote to control a dimmer night light and white noise.

I can’t tell you all my health problems have been cured, but that tickle in my throat that often wakes me up hasn’t happened since I’ve had the lamp there.

A holiday top to give or keep…

It’s always nice to have something new to wear for the holidays and this top is great to give or get for yourself. Despite the face that the description uses the words “casual” and “sweatshirt,” the material and open back lends itself to dress.

I love the brown color, which is more of a rust. It also comes in other options and looks like it is well worth more than the price of $16.99.

Great Leggings on a budget…
That top goes great with these leggings. They are very sturdy, not at all see through, and give lots of support. They also have a bit of a shine to them so they can easily be dressed up – for $21.99.

The toy for every dog…

When I first got this toy, I didn’t think it would be of use to my 6 lb. Yorkie puppy. I was definitely wrong. He loves it. It’s solid and has all different textures and noises. He’ll be playing with it for a long time and I think my pit bull grand dogs would even have a hard time destroying this.

Bring your pet along…
Teddy is training to be a service dog, but since he is small, I don’t want to take a chance of him getting caught in the wheels of my scooter. That’s why I was so excited to try this bag. It works fine for my GoGo Scooter.

I love the fact that it has a built-in cover so there’s room for Teddy to stick his head out, or me to fill it with groceries or a water bottle.

Of course, this is meant for a bicycle and would also be a great gift for the bike rider in your life.

Brunch cocktails for your picnic…

What a great idea this is: your favorite brunch cocktails canned for takeout.

There’s still time to enjoy the outdoors and we’ve all been doing a lot more takeout than restaurant dining this year. We Picnic Brunch has Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s canned for you to take wherever you’re going.

I absolutely loved the Bloody Mary, full of flavor with a little spice. It’s 5.5% ABV. The Mimosa is not quite what you might be used to as it has some other fruit flavors (not specified) in addition to the usual orange juice, but it is good. It has a 6.9% abv.

Oats, the new dairy alternative…

It used to be almonds and now it’s oats, the latest alternative to dairy in milk and other products.

Oatsome makes milk out of oats for those who want (or need) to stay away from dairy. They sent me some of their chocolate milk. You really can’t taste the oats, whether you are putting it in hot chocolate, a smoothie, or drinking it on its own.

A multi-use travel bag…

I may not be traveling at the moment, but I’m definitely going to be using this Carry on Garment Bag in the future. I love all the options it has, from putting in a dress or suit that will stay wrinkle-free, to the pockets suitable for clothes, shoes, toiletries and more.

Wireless charges are convenient and easy to continue using your phone with while they are charging. You also can avoid all those wires all over the place.

Finds for Teddy…

As I mentioned last month, I have a new puppy. Word has gotten out and Teddy is starting to receive products of his own!

The Power Pets Lick Mat is perfect to keep your puppy busy, whether you are cutting nails, giving him a bath, brushing him, or you just need a break. I just lightly spread some peanut butter on it and Teddy was happily occupied for nearly a half hour!

Another must have for pets is this Dog Travel Water Bottle. Even with the warm weather over, dogs need water and this makes it easy to carry water for him, and easy for him to drink it out of. These also have a place for food and are available on Amazon.

Get Clean on the Inside and Out

There’s no doubt that fall is here. Pumpkin spice is appearing everywhere and there is definitely a chill in the air. We are all craving different things and I certainly have them.

Let’s start with the pumpkin…
When I heard PBFit, the healthy and delicious powdered peanut butter, now has a Pumpkin Spice, I couldn’t wait to try it. Once I got the container, I did have to think about it. It turns out there is quite a few things you can do with it, from adding it to yogurt and smoothies, to sprinkling it on oatmeal.

I wanted to create something unique with it. Since I have a new puppy in the house, I was thinking about dog treats. On the other hand, cookies sounded like a good idea. Why not do one that you can use for both? That’s exactly what I did when I created Pumpkin Spice Peanut Butter Cookies. Check out the recipe here. Both Teddy and I loved them.

More Flax 4Life…
I mentioned last month that I had received a big box of Flax4Life products. I found two more products in the box that I’d like to recommend.

The Flax4Life Wild Blueberry Muffin was really delicious. It’s packed with nine grams of protein, six grams of fiber, and 4460 mg of Omega 3. My favorite part is that it’s full of real blueberries.

For another healthy fruit-filled treat, I tried the Flax4Life Hawaiian Snacking Granola. These soft piece of granola are gluten-free, with five grams of protein and 2440 mg of Omega 3. The natural flavors from pineapple, mango, and coconut are great. They also come in Apple Cinnamon.

Keep it clean…
I received another box of products to try out from Scott’s Liquid Gold, who now owns Biz , Dryel, and OxiClean. It was quite a collection and I can tell you that I see the difference in my clothes, as well as Teddy’s.

I’m not getting dressed up much these days, but my friend, Betty, works in an office and made good use of the Dryel At Home dry cleaner. For less than the dry cleaner, without the trip, this kit gets your clothes steam cleaned in the dryer safely. They also smell great!

I’ve never tried any Biz Stain Fighter products before, but I am sold after trying their detergent and booster. They work for most of my laundry (I didn’t take a chance of the brightening on darks), even in cold water. Even Teddy's stuffed toys are looking brighter.

OxiClean has always been in my laundry room as a stain remover. Now, I don’t need to wait until then to use it. They have a Stain Stick which works quickly and easily, and is easy to carry around. There’s even a tip to scrub the liquid in to make sure it’s absorbed.

More dressing...
I’m getting toward the end of the Plant Junkie products. It’s a terrific line and the Chia Ranch Dressing did not disappoint, although I wouldn’t say typical ranch is the outstanding taste. Like their other products, it’s 100% plant-based and includes avocado oil.
