As a matter of fact I stopped using it completely quite few years ago now, and instead, I've been using the word 'happy'. 
Usually when we or someone important to us achieves something we say: " I'm proud of myself", or "I'm proud of you", or "you should be proud of..."

I saw her coming towards me, but I was sure she wouldn't dare to bother me as I was listening to my MP3 player with headphones on. Surprise, surprise!
