In efforts to make this up-coming holiday weekend stress free, many of the Splatmandu regulars took the time to prepare the fields for July’s ONE BALL SCENARIO. The “Dam Levers” were installed, and props were assembled. Ted and Kathy mowed all the fields - which look golf-course pristine! Kathy took the initiative to cut us a new path leaving Splat City up into the Pasture. Later in the evening, Ted, Kathy, Jen, Nate and Tony took to the pasture to remove several trees clogging the paths, as well as a tree by Tippmann. Thanks to Super-Tony, there will be no stubbed toes, he showed those stumps who was boss with some serious maul and hatchet work.

Rules have been posted for July’s ONE BALL SCENARIO. Check them out and we will see you Sunday! Remember to bring your one-ball pouches (i.e. apron or fanny pack) - leave your hoppers at home… you won’t need ‘em!

RULES AND REGULATIONS

CODE OF CONDUCT: 1. I will not wipe paint.

2. I will follow the rules of the game and  accept the referee’s decision as final.

3. I will treat every paint gun as if it  were loaded, and follow the rules of safe paint gun handling.

4. I will keep my goggles on while a game is in progress.

5. I will not deliberately make aggressive physical contact with another person; I will be polite and respectful to others.

Hatfields & McCoys 2009 - JULY SCENARIO OUTLINE

ONE “BIG GAME” FIELD (boundaries are twined)

GAME TIME:   - 2 HOURS continuous play ­-

BRIEFING STARTS AT 1:00pm. Those players who do not attend the briefing at 1:00pm will have to sit out of the game.

BLUE TEAM

   AND

GREY TEAM:   Arm bands to be worn on both arms of each player. TOP FIVE to additionally wear team tunic

LIMITED

PAINT:   Players are limited to the amount of paint they can carry onto the field as follows:

         ONE BALL: Unlimited paint. See “ONE BALL RULES”

Players who run out of paint can receive paint from a living teammate during game play. Players can also return to the NEUTRAL ZONE at any time to restock their paint/gas.

RULES:   Paint and/or equipment can be passed to a teammate by a living player. 

         “DEAD MEN” do not pass paint/guns, etc.

         “DEAD MEN” do not talk.

When a player is eliminated, they must report to the NEUTRAL ZONE. While in the NEUTRAL ZONE, wipe off all paint from clothes/gun (so that you are not called out on old paint.) Re-supply paintballs/gas. Be prepared to re-chrono your gun.

REENTRY: Players will reinsert one at a time into the game via your team’s designated start location on either side of the Neutral Zone. During REENTRY, players cannot fire their gun until safely outside the designated start zone.

ONE BALL RULES: The basic rules of ONE BALL are this. Carry as much paint as you wish. The only catch… you can have one ball in your hand OR one ball in the gun at a time – not both. Drop one ball in, shoot, repeat. That simple.

POINT SYSTEM:  Each Team will start the game with $10,000.00, representative of the amount of revenue your STILL brings in. An operational STILL ensures you keep your bankroll. Failure to do so DEDUCTS points from your monthly revenue.

BRIDGES: With the intense heat of the summer, the “Tug River” has DRIED UP! River boundaries do not apply this month and have been removed from the field of play.

MISSIONS:

BLUE TEAM (Hatfields): Start at the Hillbilly Hilton

GRAY TEAM (McCoys): Start at Witches’ Chateau

STILL: Each team will hide their STILL on their side of the “Splatmandu’s Tug River.” Each STILL consists of 5 pieces. If by the end of the 2 HOUR GAME the STILL is not operational (piece(s) stolen by opposing team or Ted’s Feds) $10,000.00 will be DEDUCTED from the team’s revenue, meaning the STILL produced nothing for the game.

Notes about the STILL: The still cannot be placed inside any building and cannot be placed in a location that will draw fire towards the NEUTRAL ZONE. Other than that, any specific placement questions can be directed towards Kathy.

STILL PARTS: Notice something missing from your team’s still? You can always steal parts from the opposing team’s still to complete your still.

-       “Object in Hand Rule” does NOT apply to Still parts. If

shot while in possession of a STILL PART, you can keep it.

PIG: As the Hatfields successfully held the PIG for game three, they retain possession. If stolen, the PIG must be returned to your team’s Home Base and placed in the provided HOLDING PEN to count for team score. If shot while in possession of the PIG, it must be dropped immediately. Whichever team has the PIG in its pen at the end of the 2 HOURS will receive a $5,000.00 bonus.

STEAL THE MOONSHINE!: Since the river is dry, the fresh water is almost depleted, but your demand remains high. The solution? Steal the shine! At each team’s designated HOLDING PEN are (10) MOONSHINE JARS, each designated by team color, worth $1,000.00 each. These JARS may be stolen by either team. The JUGS must be inside your HOLDING PEN to count for team score by the conclusion of the 2 HOUR GAME.

Total points possible: $20,000.00

NOTE: If shot while in possession of a JAR, it must be dropped immediately.

“OBJECT IN HAND RULE”- If you are shot while in possession of the PIG or MOONSHINE JAR, it must be dropped and left on the field of play. These items may be picked up by another player.

NOTE: A living player can pass the PIG or JAR to another LIVE PLAYER.

         REMEMBER, HAND TO HAND PASSING ONLY

CAPTURED WITNESSES: The Feds have been “detaining” WITNESSES from both the Hatfields and McCoys, in hopes of using the forced testimony as evidence for arrest of the high-ranking members of both families. Now is your chance to break them out! Located in (2) designated safe houses are your WITNESS PLAYING CARDS. These WITNESS CARDS must be taken one at a time and returned to your team’s HOLDING PEN to count for team score by the conclusion of the 2 HOUR game. WITNESS CARDS are of various denominations, at $200.00 per denomination.

Ex: 6 of diamonds (6 x $200.00) = $1,200.00

HATFIELD SAFE HOUSE: Bayou Nate Shack in the Painted Forest

McCOY SAFE HOUSE: Airport Tower in the Pasture

-       “Object in Hand Rule” does NOT apply to WITNESS CARDS. If shot while in possession of a WITNESS CARD, you can keep it.

CLOSE THE DAM: We all know the river won’t stay dry forever. In anticipation of the rainstorm of late July, The Feds will be focusing their efforts on the (4) Dam locations along the “Tug River”, each designated with a lever pole. The Fed’s goal, open all the dams, your goal, close them down! To consider a dam CLOSED, your team’s color must be sticking out the top of the pole. $2,500.00 per lever pole your color at the conclusion of the 2 HOUR GAME.

Why close the DAM you ask? This may determine your allowable passage back and forth the “Tug River” for future months.

Happy Father’s Day guys! We added 11 new club members to Splatmandu today. Thanks for joining us on this muggy - yet sunny - Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, Ted, Nate and Jen worked in the Mine Field, repairing buildings from the mid-week storms, while Kathy worked to remove excess twine from the playing field. On Sunday, Ted and Nate fixed the downed wall in the Keep in the City, while Kathy added a new coat of paint to the Bridge.

Busy weekend here at Splatmandu! On Saturday, the Splatmandu family took a road trip to Berrien Springs to join Josh and Stephanie for their wedding day. Thank you for letting us be a part of it all. While many of us were away, Nate, Karl, Tony and Ray took the opportunity to install lighting in Ted and Kathy’s garage to surprise them when they got home.

On Sunday, we were joined by 13 new club members to Splatmandu. Great to meet you! After play was completed for the day, James, James Jr., Brian, Todd and Ray (with Rod and the Gater hauling paint) painted the Nest. It looks great guys! The Hornet’s Nest has never been painted before, so this really adds some aesthetic appeal to this field, not to mention functionality!

Off the break, The Hatfields were first to arrive at the washed-out bridge and quickly were able to fill their jars from the “Tug River” to return to their still. In only about 15 minutes’ time, the Hatfields were able to fill their still Jug with the jars and were the first to turn in the Jug to Amy to add 10,000 points to their team total. 

After task one was completed, the Hatfields charged over the single bridge towards the McCoy Territory. During the battle that ensued, the Hatfields were able to find the McCoy still, disassemble it completely, and return all the pieces to their pen back at their home base. The Hatfields were also successful in keeping their still operational for another 10,000 points, plus were able to protect the pig from capture, for 5,000 points.

The McCoys were unable to cross the bridge to retrieve their still parts or steal the pig, so to end the third installment of the scenario, the McCoys did not have a working still to produce their moonshine, thusly earning no points for the day.

Team totals through June:

McCoys: 21,700

The Telegrapher tightened the tie-down on the tugboat and trotted into town. He returned to his familiar office, made a fresh pot of coffee and sat down at his desk. He pulled out the message I had given him to send to my boss and got down to work:

The Telegrapher finished the message and the last of his coffee at the same time. He set down his cup with an empty thud, gathered his gear and locked up behind himself. He had taken only one step when he heard a familiar ripping sound. The cold night air blanketed his thin, bare thighs. He hung his head in disappointment as he turned back to see his pants hung up on a loose nail sticking out of the door jam; the same nail he wanted to pound in so many times before, but could not find a hammer. He quickly retrieved his “spare” pants from his gear and jumped into them, while making his way down to the docks.

The Gentleman had made it clear… the Telegrapher was to be back at camp by morning. The Feds had allowed the Hatfields and McCoys to run shine right under their noses. The Gentleman also made it clear that things were going to change. He knew the damage they could cause to their still operations, but now it was time to go after the source. The Hatfields and McCoys were out of ingredients and the first place they would go is to the West end of the Tug River, where the river runs purest. If they were to re-stock with fresh ingredients, their shine productions would be next to impossible to stop. With these facts weighing heavy on the minds of the Feds, there was only one conclusion: total eradication of both families.
