Why wait until the end of the year to highlight what's happening. Now that we're past the halfway point of 2008 here's a round up of some recent songs in commercials.

Sometimes you'll be watching a commercial and think to yourself it seems familiar. Maybe it's because the creatives decided to be cheeky and reference another ad. Here are some examples.

New Feature - Song Enhancements

We've been undergoing some changes lately to make finding song info easier.

Back in February we added the ad/song tables, which are long lists of ads with songs, grouped by year.

Now we've enhanced our company, brand, and product lists to also include song information.
Here are some examples.

Company: General Motors
Brand: Apple
Product: Toyota Sequoia

If you're new to the site, here's a brief explanation of how to get to other companies, brands, or products. You can find them using the Search box at the top of the page. Or if you're already on a specific ad page, there will often be links in the Ad Basics box for brand, company, and product.

You can also get to brand pages by clicking on a letter in the "Browse commercials" section on the side of every page. Each letter lists out all the brands for that letter, but keep in mind that long list doesn't have the song info. If you click on a brand name in the main body of the page (not the section # links), then that'll take you to the brand page.

Songs For Sale: Better Late Than Never

Sometimes a commercial comes out with a great song, but it's not available for sale. This could be because the song was written for the commercial, or maybe it comes from a music production library. It also could mean the song is in the process of being released.

There are a lot of cynical, sarcastic, and snide commercials out there. Sure they're amusing, but with spring arriving (here in the northern hemisphere), I thought it would be nice to focus on some recent happy ads.

Clorox - The Blue Sky Project

Over the past few years, Clorox has gotten many requests to release the music used in their commercials. In cooperation with the artists and music companies that created the music, in February 2008, they released a charity album with many of the songs people have come to love.

Super Bowl XLII Commercials (2008)

Super Bowl XLII, Sunday February 3, 2008, pitted the New York Giants against the New England Patriots. As usual, the commercials are a big part of the event, so of course splendAd.com is covering the ad extravaganza.
