I’ve created a Leave Trace landing page at flavors.me. Flavors.me is basically a social network aggregator with tons of nice design options and customization, and a very usable free account. Pretty cool idea and excellent execution. I do hope they add in some raw html modules so I can build a more complete and specifically Leave Trace site, but until then I’ve created a few workarounds for the youtube and flickr modules that at least allow me to just show specific photos and videos.

As a huge fan of Theo Ellsworth, this animation immediately caught my interest. I absolutely love that surreal, hyper-detailed, doodle/stream-of-consciousness inspired illustration style, and Malcolm Sutherland has taken it to another level by bring it to life in this lovely animation. Enjoy!

Woo(b)! The loooooooooong awaited new album from cinematic ambient master, Woob, dropped today. This is very good news. I’ve been a huge Woob fan since I was first passed a copy of his Em:t Records, 1194 release, which remains one of my all-time favorites. Woob’s deep atmospheric textures mingle with live instrumentation and half heard voices from a movie never filmed, and Repurpose does little mess with this winning formula. Finally! Some fresh new music from northwest psychill hero, Phutureprimitive. Out today is the Luminous EP, containing three new(ish) tracks. I say “newish” because it seems like Rain has been dropping these tracks in his sets for a while, and it’s nice to finally have my own copies to play out. Style-wise, fans of his first album and subsequent compilation contributions will recognize that signature Phutureprimitive moody atmosphere and delicious bass lines. What’s new is the addition of lyrical vocals in the forefront of the mix as the new driving force for each track. These lyrics, by Alyssa Palmer and Rain, have been tastefully edited and are seamless additions to the already lush Phutureprimitive soundscape. Vocals of this caliber seem to be tricky to find in this kind of electronica, and Rain pulls it off. My gut tells me that some old fans will not be so into this new lyrical direction, but it will most certainly open up his music to an even wider audience. With Phutureprimitive now performing as a full band, this new direction should be not much of a surprise, and thankfully, in Rain’s capable hands the vocals and music continue to push the mature downtempo vibe that first caught the world’s ear six years ago.

The Ambire Linearis shows have all been excellent, and Space is a perfect venue for this type of show. I was extra excited to catch this one as I’m a big fan of both Gel-Sol and Carl Sagan’s Ghost, but silly me forgot what night this was on when accepting the booking for the birthday party. Bummer….

A weekend full of music, workshops and yoga, all in an effort to raise some funds to do some legally require structural updates. Saturday, May 8 :: Shpongle (DJ) and Hallucinogen (live) at The Showbox
This show is going to be amazing. The latest Shpongle album is perhaps their best yet, and Hallucinogen is easily my favorite producer on the planet. I’m totally stoked for this event. Plus there is an afterparty at the Church of Bass, with the Future Nurses, Coral, DEFIB, and Hendrik. Saturday/Sunday morning is full of all kinds of awesome.

I highly recommend that you download the track to listen to it in full quality. (Click on the down-arrow on the right side of the player to start the download.) The streaming-quality compression introduced artifacts in the bass line that are I am not happy with and don’t know how to fix.

John and I performed under the short-lived name of “A Delicate Moment”, which was quickly killed for being at bit too precious of a name. Band names are hard! Beats and textures by me, Leave Trace, and cello by John Ames.

It’s here! Kinetic 4 at the Pacific Science Center. We’ve been planning our portion of this event for sometime now and now it is time to make it all happen. Chillography is excited to not only have the best room in the entire PSC for stage (freaking robot dinosaurs!), but also having perhaps our best line-up yet. This will not suck.

Much of my excitement also comes from the fact that John Ames and I get to debut our new music project, A Delicate Moment. We play from 10-11, and have an entire hour of brand-spankin’-new melodic, dubby, psychedelic, downtempo goodness, heavily layered with John’s crazy cello skills. This set has been months in the making and I can’t wait to show off the awesome sauce that we have concocted.

Tonight, Friday, March 19 is Head|Set with Vibrasphere at Waid’s. I love love love Vibrasphere’s blend of progressive, trance and techno, and word is he’ll be finishing his set with some their über delicious downtempo. They’ve been on my list of bands to see for such a long time now, and tonight I finally get to. Bonus points for having this at Waid’s House of Love. Such a great venue. Full event info is here.

Then, Saturday, March 20 is Joe Nice at Chop Suey. This two-roomed, dubstep/techno show is sure the be a great counterpoint to tonight’s progressive trance extravaganza. I have to be honest… I don’t really know anything about Joe, but my friends who are putting on this event are really excited about him, and I trust them, so I am excited too. Plus, the rest of the line-up, and especially the techno side room are full of great DJs. At $10, I am totally willing to support my friends and expose my ears to some new music. This mix has been available at the Chillography site for a while, but I’m also posting it here in an effort to consolidate all of my mixes in one place. One sunny summer afternoon, at a lovely Seattle waterfront park, this mix was the first of a full day of sun-worshipping chillout sets by some of our favorite Chillography guests. Holy hot sauce! The seminal (and much missed) goa/psytrance band The Green Nuns of the Revolution are resurfacing with a chilled out remix album, ala Hallucinogen in Dub.

The Underground psychedelic trance mavericks from England who caused joyous havoc at many an International party in the late 90’s are experiencing a resurgence of interest for which they have changed their socks. PAN ELECTRIC is the artist name for Matt Coldricks’ projects on Absolute Ambient records . The Pan Electric approach of variations rather than re-mixes allows for more creative interpretations of melodies and moods and marks a departure form the rather tired culture of remixes. Quirky, dubby and laced with colour, drama and humour this album is vivid, smells of carnivals, bonfires and tastes like the best spontaneous night in you’ve had. Younger Brother is hard at work on their next album. I’m a huge fan of both of their previous full lengths, but their most recent release, Last Days of Gravity, is especially good. Another Younger Brother album on the horizon is definitely something to look forward to.
