* Also each read/write-access on the hard drive may provoke the anti virus software to check each moved data for malware before every access. Then, additionally it may access the hard disk for virus signature information. Check for the CPU-Usage and Page faults of your AV-Software (via taskmgr) and disable some less needed features of it.
* A large delay when right-clicking something might be caused by a cluttered registry. Use RegCleaner 4.3's auto-clean to remove the useless entries.

Some time ago, I came up with a nick name generator.

It mostly generates speakable names and includes a filter for usage of this name on the internet. So you can choose if your new nick should be unique or if it should be very common.
To do so, this script searches the nick name on alltheweb.com (any non-google - I think its Yahoo) and finally filters the result page for the number of results.

It is written in python and has already many plugins. Also it supports replay-gain, playqueue, lyrics, file tagging and file renaming. My final decision fell on it, because it can exclude files from being scrobbled (defined by regular expressions) and has a global filter and a search query that supports regular expressions, too.
So you can make dynamic playlists with regular expressions and that means, I can do all I want to!

I installed it on Ubuntu:

sudo aptitude install quodlibet quodlibet-plugins

and enabled some plugins, first:
* AudioScrobbler
* Automatic Rating (rating generated by skipping behavior)
* Download Album Art
* Import Metadata
* Internet Radio Log (saves list of lately played songs)
* Notify
* Random Album Playback
* Tray Icon

Then I configured the global hotkeys.

Script: replay gain them all

You know, if the volume of the music you?re playing does always alter, you should try this:
On Ubuntu, first, you need to install the following:

sudo apt-get install mp3gain

Then create a new file containing following bash code:

#!/bin/bash
find  /path/to/your/music/folder -iname *.mp3 -execdir mp3gain -a -k -p -q {} +

This* will apply a album replay-gain meta tag to your mp3s. Don?t worry, the script won?t alter the data of the files, it just adds the tags. Now, if you play that with a player which is able to support replay-gain like Rhythmbox, Songbird, Winamp, Foobar2000 or what ever you choose, it?ll sound much more even.

On Windows, you can alter the volume of your music files with MP3Gain. Winamp also has a native 'replaygain analyzer': Mark the files of an album and right-click them: send-to -> replay gain

Note: I personally don?t apply the track replay-gain on my music, because I think, altering sound in music is an important style element and manipulates the feeling. Especially in soundtracks and classics.

*) You need to replace /path/to/your/music/folder to your music folder

Edit: I'm now doing this with QuodLibet's replay gain plugin now.

Winner:
    * 1st: Ultimate Defrag(14), O&O Defrag(14)
    * 2nd: JKDefrag GUI(10)

Others I?ve testet are below: Defraggler, Auslogics Disk Defrag, Windows? native defrag.exe, Smart Defrag

I take Ultimate Defrag and the defrag.exe for removable media now.

*) JKDefrag GUI places files x% space away from the border of the HD, to fill the x% of disk space up with new files. After a while and defraging again, I had the feeling that JK Defrag moves ALL the files x% to the center of the disk to get x% of space at the border free again. I think this would be highly inefficent!?
