I wanted to work with a deeper concept but I couldn’t translate whatever I had in mind into a composition. I went for a failsafe idea which I planned early on incase it had come to this. The deadline was getting nearer and I had other homework.

I’m still happy with how this illustration turned out anyway. It’s a simple idea inspired by colors and fashion style. Nice excuse to draw girls in funky outfits – my guilty pleasure.

Here are some process pics

Since they share the same body structure with a few variations, I drew the basic body structure first then the variations on a different paper. I assembled their initial pose in Photoshop then sketched their clothes on.

Exported the sketch to Illustrator and worked on the lineart. This involves arranging the layers for the intertwined arms.

Switched the white with a color from the swatches and remove the black outline.

Added the gradients, shading and textures.

Then a simple background! Bam! Done!

My Crimson Skies characters need a color scheme and I need to practice my digipainting. I started with Lukan.

I’d like to finish the whole thing but I can’t dedicate too much time for this. At least his pose allows for some strategic cropping.

A few months ago, I urged my friend and I to go to the Manila Book Fair ‘09 the moment I heard that I can preorder the latest volume of my favorite local comic there. After patiently waiting, the parcel greets me when I got home from school – a signed copy of Trese volume 3: Mass Murders!

Plus a free sketch of the most badass local comic heroine, Alexandra Trese, with her sidekicks, the Kambal.

Mass Murders is twice thicker than the first 2 volumes. Instead of being a compilation of case files, it’s a whole book featuring an origin story: Answering questions about Trese’s past and the Kambal, introducing key characters old and new, and forming new questions in the minds of fans.

It’s an exciting read and I’m definitely looking forward to volume 4. More power to Mr. Budjette Tan and Mr. Kajo Baldisimo.

I wanted to tinker with some rss this time so if I’m not blogging, this site will get updated in some other way. That cartoony me on the header tells my latests tweet in case you’re wondering what she’s blabbing about. The footer displays my recent photos and Delicious bookmarks.
