Hey everyone, my name is Jamaal Richardson and I'm a 26 year old university student. In my junior high and high school days I played both fútbol and football, but because of no training or at least no adequate training, I eventually gave it up to find a job, which I did...at McDonald's. However, I became interested in exercise science about 2 years ago and received a fitness certification through ISSA. I stumbled across SSL by way of Troy Polamalu's workout videos. I read through the Methodology section and regarding the definition of Neuromuscular Intensification.

It enhances any workout that you are doing.

I love powerlifting, SSL makes me a better powerlifter.

It just depends on your goals, the key to training is finding the methods that work the best for you and apply to your goals.

I am coaching football. I have a group of about 15 kids so I break them up into groups. I have one group doing disks, slant boards, and pipes. Then I have another group doing ballistic ball workout. I first started out slow letting them learn the basics on the slant board, disks, and pipes. They got it fairly fast, so now I am focusing on the ball work since it takes more time to teach and master. So far so good. Biggest problem is having all the equipment. I spent $$ to get what I needed but I found some website that teach how to make disks.

I just started up my ssl class here in simi valley last week. Most of my athletes have school, home work or practice so I am limited to time and days. Tues I had 10 kids,Thurs 12, and sat like 4 showed. I only have about 3 sets of all the equipment. I set them all up in stations. Since all of them are real new to this style of training i'm not to worried about any specific order. I just want them to learn the fundamentals of it.

Hi everybody! I was wondering if I could mine your heads. What are your top five favorite abdominal exercises? I'm thinking from a standpoint of effectively training the abdominal area for sports, but if you have a different view of ab exercises, let me know. I'm interested in all of your views. Thanks!

Here's a suggestion to the SSL staff:
some potential affiliates, such as myself , are/would be interested in workouts we can share with a group of people at a time. If you could come up with exercises that involve (stations, circuit training) or things of that sort that could be performed by a group of people. If the exercise methodology can support this concept, it could really help some affiliates start off.

Re: Training SSL to a class

Great questions. You can train a group of people, it depends on the amount of equipment you have. You can have one person doing the slant board, one on the pipes, and one on the discs and then rotate. When it comes to the ball work you could have one person do and exercise and then switch with a partner. It does become tricky if you have more than two people sharing equipment. The long winded answer is ideally everyone should have equipment. If that is not possible, two people can go back and forth, but no more than that because you don't want your heart rate to slow down too much.

Training SSL to a class

Suppose you'd like to train SSL to a class of 15 students.

Any ideas on how you can do this with limited SSL equipment?

Since SSL is "till form fails" type of exercise, which is different for everyone, I'm trying to determine whether it can be taught to a class or not.

Would you agree that's it's a more 1 on 1 type of workout.

I incorporate ballistic type work using resistance bands and also bodyweight exercise for strength training. I used to essentially bodybuild, but have sense abandoned that sort of training protocol for a number of different reasons; the most important being its detrimental effect on overall athleticism. My advice is to do a little research on whatever modalities you're incorporating, but to really gauge the true benefit based on performance. If you're making improvements, stick with it. If not, fix it or scrap it altogether.
