Hey guys. Sorry I am little late on this but earlier today NORML, SSDP and just say now created a mini-campaign to let elected officials in NYC know that marijuana needs to be legalized. Last week, an NYC judge declared that he is pro-medical marijuana and since then people seem to be real hoping for legalization in New York (the marijuana arrest capital of the world). It is almost 5 on the east so do it soon or do it tomorrow! We have strength in numbers!

The timing is almost perfect. Siena College released a new poll showing 57% of New Yorkers support regulating medical marijuana in the state.Meanwhile NY State Supreme Court Judge Gustin Reichbach, a cancer survivor himself, just published a beautiful NY Timesop-ed that appeals to the legislature to pass this compassionate bill.

And the majority of New Yorkers are right: it’s cruel to allow patients to suffer when when such an obvious solution lays before us. To make sure this bill has the support it needs to pass, we’re launching calls into the offices of New York lawmakers in support of regulating medical marijuana in NY.

Medical marijuana is beyond controversy for the vast majority of New Yorkers — and a majority of Americans. Some legislators recognize this, but we must convince those on the fence that it’s time to do the humane thing and bring relief to the chronically and terminally ill.

Judge Reichbach said it best when he wrote:

This is not a law-and-order issue; it is a medical and a human rights issue … doctors cannot be expected to do what the law prohibits, even when they know it is in the best interests of their patients. When palliative care is understood as a fundamental human and medical right, marijuana for medical use should be beyond controversy.

Remember Penn and Teller? One of them was pretty funny and the other was a mute but still kinda funny? Well Penn Jillette returned to awesomeness with this dope rant about how horrible the Obama administration has been on marijuana on his podcast. He brings up some points that I haven’t really heard anyone say before. He accuses Obama of class warfare for drug policy, states’ rights. He brings up valid points about how a drug conviction would have prevented Barack Obama from becoming President. He also blasts Obama and Jimmy Fallon for joking around about this serious issue during their late night interview.

Here is some of what Penn had to share and check the full rant below.

What troubles me about this… I think it’s beyond hypocrisy. I think it’s something to do with class. A lot of people have accused Obama of class warfare, but in the wrong direction. I believe this is Obama chortling with Jimmy Fallon about lower class people. Do we believe, even for a second, that if Obama had been busted for marijuana — under the laws that he condones — would his life have been better? If Obama had been caught with the marijuana that he says he uses, and ‘maybe a little blow’… if he had been busted under his laws, he would have done hard f*cking time. And if he had done time in prison, time in federal prison, time for his ‘weed’ and ‘a little blow,’ he would not be President of the United States of America. He would not have gone to his fancy-a** college, he would not have sold books that sold millions and millions of copies and made millions and millions of dollars, he would not have a beautiful, smart wife, he would not have a great job. He would have been in f*cking prison, and it’s not a god damn joke. People who smoke marijuana must be set free. It is insane to lock people up.

It’s hard to glance at a magazine cover in the grocery store without seeing a headline about so-and-so celebrity in rehab. You also hear references to alcohol or drugs in popular music, even if now you don’t even notice. Are these references really as prevalent as we think? Look at where substance references are popping up, as well as public figures on drugs, who we’ve lost to substance abuse, and how our youth may be impacted.

What do you guys think about the drug use in pop culture. It has certainly increased in the past 10 years but is it a bad thing? If so, what should we do? Let us know in the comments.
