4H Service Benefit

On Thursday, January 12, 4H went off campus to help clean up the highway near Diamond Ranch. The girls had a lot of fun. Each girl got a large, orange garbage bag and an orange vest. They were told to try to fill up the bags, and made a game out of who could pick up the most garbage. That definitely helped motivate the girls. When they were finished, the highway looked noticeably better. The girls came back to the ranch feeling accomplished knowing they did something great for the environment.

Media and Journalism Club Update

Media club’s members, Jessica and Christian, have recently been training Alessandra and Ben to take their places. A lot of hard work is put into those 411’s and you can bet your bottom dollar that it’s no simple task creating them. Jessica and Christian do a fantastic job in Media and their work has caused a great deal of laughing fits. Especially when Elysse is in them. Journalism Club focuses on the newspaper and blogs. These girls have been working very hard to perfect the newspaper and update the blogs weekly. Journalism club and media both take a lot of time and hard work to be accomplished, but, when everyone works together, it so fun to be with these students.

Talented Music Club

The kids in Music Club are super talented! From guitar to singing, and even piano playing, it is always a treat to drop-in for a visit during Clubs & Activities. Several club members performed at the recent Dickens Festival in St. George, while others will be performing in the upcoming DRA’s Got Talent: Holiday Edition next week. We are all looking forward to it!

Weight Lifting Club

Other than our Diamondback athletic teams, Weight Lifting club is by far the most popular club, activity, or sport on boys’ campus. There is a waiting list to get in to this club! The guys in this club work out super hard every afternoon from 3 – 5pm. The weight room offers so many options to switch up your old workout routine. From bench press to free weights, and even elliptical machines and treadmills, you are sure to find something to transform your boring old workout!

Boys Cooking Club

Rolling meat balls, cooking up ground beef, buttering rolls and garlic bread … Who’s been helping out in the kitchen? Cooking Club!! Under the direction of the head chef, this group of guys makes all the necessary preparations for dinners on both campuses. The food is awesome; thanks for your help guys!

4H Outing

The girls in Mr Force’s 4H Club have been so busy! From baking, to arts and crafts, to sewing, and even hiking and several service projects, it’s hard to keep up with these girls! Recently, they went on an exciting hike down to the lower Hurricane Valley. The mission of this particular hike was to find a “leaverite” (piece of nature, i.e. rock, branch, leaf, etc) and make up a story about it to share with the group. The girls learned about different rocks and plants that have medical uses, and even got to taste tree sap. Celeste is in 4H and said this about the hike, “I thought it was really peaceful and a really good opportunity to learn about nature!” Sounds like fun, girls!

The girls in 4H Club got to go on an awesome service benefit! Mr. Force, the club’s leader, took the girls to a Fair benefitting children whose parents are in the military. The 4H girls had opportunities to give service by hosting games, teaching crafts, handing out candy, and even painting faces. They really enjoyed meeting new people and helping out in the community! Thanks girls!!

Girl's Basketball vs. Outdoors Club

Our girl's basketball team usually practice at a church in Hurricane after school. Today they had practice at the court on campus. The girls even had a scrimmage with the outdoors club. They have been working on ball handling drills and shooting drills as well.

The guys in Outdoors and Games Clubs have a lot in common, but most importantly: They all love being outside! While Outdoors Club members love hiking and fishing, the guys in Games Club love playing basketball and ‘Foot Square’. There are even a few talented guys who love playing the guitar outside. These boys are always thinking of new ways to appreciate the out-of-doors!

The girls in our Crochet Club are constantly making crafts from hats to really neat stuffed animals. Recently, these talented girls began projects for the friends and families such as hats and even patched pillows. There are tons and tons of different colored and textured spools of yarns at their disposal. These girls also like to make bead, make bracelets, and even draw too. They are super creative, and always busy with new projects!

Art Club likes to develop their artistic abilities through drawing and painting. Their art is always on display all around campus. It is quite impressive! They also make incredible art with simple pieces of paper glued together to form interesting and fun shapes. Art Club is doing awesome! These guys are learning tons of new art techniques from their instructor Rod. And they aren’t just using pencils; they are using everything from paintbrushes to oil pastels, and even charcoal pencils too. Art Club is going the extra mile to learn different techniques to improve their drawing skills. From oil pastels and colored pencils to the hardest medium to use, water color. Oh, and these guys also make origami too!

Weights Club

Weights Club is continuously active. Making goals to achieve and working hard to do so. The students in Weights Club are always motivated and ready to lift! Some look forward to Weights Club as an outlet for them that takes stress off their shoulders. They enjoy exercising by lifting weights and using the fitness machines. The boys also bench press and use the stationary bicycles. These guys have a lot of fun working out and listening to music!

DRA’s Drama Club has been doing awesome! They have been working on improvisation games, and are learning a ton of new skills and techniques from these dramatic exercises. The club also studies movies and plays. They also recently performed at the talent show, ‘DRA’s Got Talent’, and are practicing for their new play.

The boys in Games Club are busy playing basketball, Frisbee, and even ‘Foot Square’. What is Foot Square, you may ask? Foot Square is a play off of the traditional Four Square where you can use every part of your body but your hands and arms. It looks like there are not only busy bodies in Games Club, there are busy minds too!

Yesterday Celeste, Willow, and Jahleene got to go on a birthday benefit!! The girls started their adventure at Café Rio, a local favorite with the most delicious Mexican food ever! After a completely filling lunch that was “sOoOoOoo good”, the girls headed over the Iceberg. Iceberg is a 50s style drive-in diner with fast food and amazing ice cream treats. Celeste got a cake batter milkshake, Jahleene got strawberry, and Willow got coconut. After ice cream, the girls headed over to Dixie Bowl for some fun at the bowling alley. “I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time”, exclaimed Jahleene. The girls such a fun day! Happy Birthday Ladies!!

Group Therapy

We had another campus-wide Group Therapy Day recently at DRA. It was filled with games, groups, and even some candy! Students talked about topics such as setting boundaries and how to utilize these skills in future situations. The activities this Therapy Day kept everyone interested and involved. Many students said “Sobriety Ball” was their favorite game. Our students always look forward to the Group Therapy Day that takes place the last Tuesday of each month. Thanks therapists and staff who made this awesome event a reality!!

DRA's Got Talent

‘DRA’s Got Talent’ has gone country! With a good ol’ saddle and some cowboy hats, the girls’ big building was transformed into a boot-scootin’ good time last week. The contestants did an amazing job and really showed off their talents and county twang. There were a variety of performances from some of Taylor Swift’s most popular songs to some original acoustic pieces as well. There was even a cameo appearance by DRA’s Drama Club, who performed their scene from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” in anticipation of their upcoming festival at Southern Utah University. We all had such a good time!!

Shakespeare Competition

Last week, DRA’s Drama Club travelled to Southern Utah University for the 35th annual Shakespeare Competition. It was Diamond Ranch Academy’s first year attending this fantastic festival, and we were able to fill every event! Our students performed as both a group and individuals. A common theme expressed in interviews of our Drama Club members was that the atmosphere was electric and super busy, but extremely friendly and supportive. DRA’s Drama Club received Superior ratings from the judges, which is a huge compliment to these students who have only been working together for two months. Way to go!!

The new Media Club at Diamond Ranch Academy has been learning all the ropes. Current club members are Janaye, Collette, Emma, Reed, and Andrew. This group of students gets to go to all the home football and volleyball games to take pictures, film, and write blogs. Media Club also interviews students from all the other Clubs & Activities at the Ranch for the 411. All this work keeps these students super busy!

Creative Activity

Last Saturday, the girls’ campus experienced a memorable activity. The girls used face paint to decorate each other’s faces! They also used the paint to show their school spirit. Some girls used DRA’s colors in cool designs while others focused on painting flowers and music notes. One girl even painted her face like the Joker! The girls all had fun!

Weights Club is working out hard and these guys are getting super buff! They lift weights each weekday during Clubs & Activities. The boys mix up their workouts, using free weights and machines to improve their physiques. They are proud of their progress, and continue to push each other hard to reach their goals.
