Presented by Nyaz Didehbani, PhD who is a neuropsychologist and an Associate Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in neuropsychological assessment with a primary interest in examining individuals with sports-related concussion and neurocognitive disorders. She served on the Executive Board of the Sports Neuropsychology Society and as the Chair for the Women in Leadership Committee of the National Academy of Neuropsychology.

Learning objectives for this webinar include:

• Explain how hormonal fluctuations and sex-specific physiology may influence concussion risk, symptom severity, and recovery in female athletes.
• Interpret prevalence and recovery data on girls and women in sports-related concussion across age groups.
• Implement gender-informed, evidence-based strategies in concussion assessment and management for female athletes.

As highlighted in a recent article, timely intervention from neuropsychologist and SNS member, Dr. Summer Ott, significantly enhanced the recovery of a young athlete who lost consciousness after an ATV accident. By providing tailored evaluations and support, she helped him navigate the path back to health, both physically and mentally.

Dr. Hakun is the director of the Cognitive and Mobile Phenotyping Neurolaboratory at Penn State University College of Medicine. His research is focused on the cognitive neuroscience of aging, particularly cognitive and brain health over the adult lifespan.
