Invictus. Good film, bad poetry!

The 1995 Rugby World Cup Final is one of my favourite sporting moments. Mainly because Francois Pienaar, in the midst of the glory of winning, gets down on his knees to thank God. He also then leads the team in prayer. The film did actually portray this, but here's a clip of the actual event.

In complete contrast to this sentiment, the film focuses on William Ernest Henley's poem Invictus. It concludes, "I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul." Who can honestly believe that?

Tags: rugby, Invictus, prayer

TheJesusComic

TheJesusComic has been added to the App Store! This was an idea originally thought up by Jason Ramasami which I have been helping turn into an iPhone app. More info here.

If you have an iPhone and download it, let us know via Twitter what you think! (There's also a free lite version called Nativity.)

Tags: iPhone, software, comic, book

Pitching for funding

Submitted today the WhatBus.com idea to GeoVation, who are offering funding up to £21K.
Convert web page to image

HTML2Image is a new piece of software we've developed that captures the HTML code of a web page and renders it to an image file (such as a gif, png or jpg). This is useful for making a thumbnail or snapshot of any standard URL. The trial version is limited with having a watermark on all images that are created. A license to upgrade to the full version costs $25.
eBay Local

Here's a video demonstration of a tool to help eBayers find items near them so that they can arrange collection in person and save on postage and packing fees. There's also a video to check out for a tool called eBay Spy which presents a real time feed of closing auctions.
We've launched a new sister site called WhatBus.com which displays an integrated map of all the bus routes in London, a bit like the ubiquitous London Tube map. Hope it's useful!
Sharing Christian books

A few months ago there was a Christian book I particularly wanted to read and it struck me that someone in my church surely must own it, I just didn't know who. I then thought that it would be useful to have a website where members of a church can list books that they own and are willing to lend, such that one can search the list, contact the owner and save some money!

This has now become reality - Sharedbookshelves.com. Sign up and get others in your church interested!

Tags: Christian, book

Internet tethering with iPhone for O2 UK

With iPhone OS 3 (only available to developers at the moment) you can tether your phone to a laptop and access the internet via 3G! This is all legal and above board. For O2 Pay and Go (or PAYG) users based in UK, you just need a file called o2_uk.ipcc. Download it, then email it to yourself and open the attachment with your iPhone. Restart and go to settings, general, network, and enable internet tethering. When you connect to your laptop via usb it should detect a new network device!

Tags: iPhone

Death and The Kings Horseman

I saw a play by Wole Soyinka recently called Death and The King's Horseman. It's based on a real incident that took place in Nigeria during colonial rule when the ritual suicide of the horseman of an important chief was prevented by the intervention of the British authorities. It's on at the National Theatre and highly recommended as it's very thought-provoking!

Tags: play, theatre, death
