Foo Fighters are sharing this rocking playlist of tracks that were recorded at the legendary Sound City Studio. This is where artists like Nirvana tracked Smells Like Teen Spirit. Other artists to have used the studio include Cheap Trick, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac and Rage Against the Machine.

As if that wasn't cool enough, the playlist also features the Sound City - Real to Reel soundtrack. The soundtrack is for the movie Sound City which is a documentary film directed by Dave Grohl.

Fall Out Boy Save Rock and Roll

While a playlist may consist of just a title and list of songs it can also represent so much more. Such may be the case with this Save Rock and Roll playlist by Fall Out Boy.

The playlist contains mainly of rock songs that spans the genre's history touching on each decade. In historical order, the playlist starts off with Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix of the 1960s and ends with songs from the new Fall Out Boy.

The playlist touches on different rock genres of the 70s and 80s such and then adds a bit of hip hop in the 90s. It is here we see some merging of hip hop and rock with songs like Walk This Way by Aerosmith and RUN DMC. And it would be hard to argue that anybody mixed the genres better than the Beastie Boys whose song Sabotage makes the mix.

Then the playlist comes to the '00 decade where no rock music is represented. Only hip hop tracks by such artists as Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Could this just be a playlist of rock songs with some hip hop songs mixed in? Or is this a statement about the popularity of the music industry shifting from Rock to Hip Hop? And does Rock and Roll need to be saved?
