The Wizard Of Oz is a much-loved story, perhaps best known (still) through the 1939 film with Judy Garland. This tale finds us in the Land of Oz where Dorothy and her dog Toto meet many friends in their quest to get home.  Some are good, some not so much but in the end it’s a story about using our brain in tough situations, having courage and is full of heart!

The show will be performed at the Corran Halls Studio Theatre on Wed 18th and Thur 19th June at 7pm.  Tickets cost £10 adults/£8 concessions/£32 family ticket (children under 3 are free but must be seated on an adult’s lap). Fraser was in five shows with us from 2005 till 2009. Mostly in the chorus and various small characters in the shows High Society, Goldilocks, Oklahoma!, Hansel and Gretel and Crazy for You, where he played one of the main roles of Polly’s father, Everett.

He was a fun, hardworking, committed member of the group who would always perform his best, whatever he was asked to do. His Green Bird was hilarious (alas no photos can be found so far).

He left the area when he got married and moved to Birmingham. His health had declined in recent years but he faced that with his usual good humour and wit.

His family told us “Fraser got so much from being in Spotlight, absolutely loved it, and all of you fellow thesps. He took his humour and lack of inhibition down to Sutton Coldfield when he married Julie, and his new workmates at Dobbies joyfully remember (can’t forget??) his moment of karaoke at a party a couple of years ago. Giving it his all as ever.”

The show follows the highs and lows of Ally and his friend Davy as they search for normality after returning from a tour in Afghanistan. Families, friendships and life are not all plain sailing in this funny and moving story about love and life.

The show runs at the Corran Halls from Wednesday 5th – Saturday 8th March 2025. Doors open at 7pm with curtain up at 7.30pm each night.

This show is recommended for age 12+. Contains depictions of war, depictions of illness/hospitalisation, and occasional strong language.

Whether it was dangling from scaffolding (being one of the few people licensed to use the talloscope), setting lights, fixing sound, sewing curtains, cursing the crashing lighting board, producing fantastic lighting design (often with a lot of smoke) or helping us with our foray into projections, there was no one quite like Louis Barrow.

Although employed by the Corran Halls as our technician for shows, Louis would always go above and beyond to make our shows better, which quickly made him very much part of Spotlight Musical Theatre Group. This partnership continued for more than 20 years.

He was always there to lend a hand, or offer advice outwith show time. Always great for a laugh and he had a shrewd sense of quick humour. Well read in many aspects of literature as well as technical, and a knowledgeable expert on so many things.

He was our technician, he was our advisor, he was a member, he was a fan, but most importantly he was our friend.

Thanks for all the good times Louis, we will miss you always.

It is a jubilant, heartfelt musical about the power of home, family and love featuring the songs of The Proclaimers.

We will host a welcome meeting on Tue 10th Sept where we provide general info and have a singing and movement workshop.  There will then be auditions on Thur 12th Sept and Sun 15th Sept with the first cast rehearsal starting on Tue 17th Sept.  We will also offer a video audition if you are unable to make it along to one of the audition days.

Audition packs and audition timeslots will be available in the next few weeks.

Earlier in February we sadly lost Michael

He was very much involved in theatre in this area for both Spotlight and Benderloch and North Connel Drama Club .

Michael was with us for many years in many roles. He stood tall (how could he not) – he informed every director that he would not sing (the fact that he could wasn’t going to change anything ), he would insist that any dancing for him was limited or nil (the latter being preferred and often required ) and certainly wanted a say on his costume (especially hats, he liked his hats) – 

He was not a directors joy (even more tricky when he is your pal!) but he had a ball especially at rehearsals and he always presented us with a powerful and unique performance – sometimes different every night – with that mischievous look and as an actor opposite him you really did wonder what was coming next (unlikely to be the line you were expecting) and he delighted in the panic in your eyes. 

He cared of course about each show, was always there and dependable, even organising an impromptu after show party when there was none. 

He will live forever in our memories on stage and in our hearts. 

Sing well Michael – we always knew you could.

9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can’t she?

Recommended age 12+

It’s beginning to look a lot like cocktails!

Spotlight are hosting a fantastic cocktail evening and 80s disco on Sat 12th November at Glencruitten Golf Club. They will be joined by a mixologist from Glasgow who will show you how you can impress your friends at your Christmas and New Year gatherings with some amazing concoctions!
