ORKUT CELEBRATES ITS 6^TH BIRTHDAY

Many people all over the world are using Orkut for many years & today is special day its Orkut’s 6^th birthday. .Though Orkut is used all over the world, It is one of the most popular Social Networking Sites in India and Brazil.

Social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace & Twitter are giving a strong competition to Orkut in India, however it will be very difficult for these Social networking sites to take over Orkut in long run. Personally I admire Orkut and am a biggest fan of it. Given a choice to vote my vote shall definitely go for Orkut, because we the people in India have developed a special kind of affection with Orkut. Since the day one I started using Orkut There has been hardly a day in my life I have not used it.

1) As of January 1^st 2010, 47.6% of Orkut's users are from Brazil, followed by India with 38.5% and United States with 2.6%. While till March 31, 2004 Orkut use to gain 51.36% of traffic from United States.

2) Orkut was created by a Google Employee called Orkut, & the site is named after him.

3) Orkut currently has more than 100 million active users worldwide.

4) Current Alexa Traffic rank of Orkut is 71^st in the world while in India it is 10^th & in Brazil it is 8^th.

Nexus One is one of the most searched gadgets on the internet since past couple of days. So I realized that

WHAT IS GOOGLE PAGERANK AND HOW TO IMPROVE IT?

Google PageRank is one of the important parameters which “Google Search Engine” makes use of in order to prioritize the importance of a webpage. Each webpage in the internet is assigned a PageRank between 0 and 10 by Google. The higher the PageRank of a webpage the better it is. Once you create a webpage / blog “Google Search Engine” gives it a PageRank 0 by default. There after the PageRank of the webpage/blog increases or decreases depending on the following factors.

FACTORS INFLUENCING GOOGLE PAGERANK :

There are a number of factors which influence the PageRank of a webpage. However there are primarily two important factors affecting the PageRank of a webpage, they are:

(a) Number of Incoming Links & Quality of Incoming Links :

Having huge incoming links pointing to your webpage is good but that’s not the only thing that matters it is also important that the incoming links pointing to your webpage are of a good quality. For instance a webpage related to “Gadgets” having an incoming link from a webpage related to “Food Items” is not considered as a quality link. Such a link may have zero impact / negative impact on the PageRank of “Gadgets”. However if the webpage related to “Gadgets” ( say ‘A’ ) points to another webpage related to “Gadgets” ( say ‘B’ ) the webpage ‘A’ increases the importance of webpage ‘B’, also helps improve the PageRank of ‘B’.

(b) Relevance of Search words on the page and actual visit to the page reported by the Google Toolbar in Google Search, is also one of the factors which influence the PageRank of a webpage.

TIPS TO INCREASE PAGERANK OF YOUR WEBPAGE :

(1) Create great content which is relevant to your webpage / blog niche. Make sure that the content you post on your blog / webpage is unique i.e, written by you, do not copy – paste the content from other webpages / blogs because that is neither ethical nor does Google Search Engine appreciate it.

(2) Update your website / blog regularly.

(3) Participate thoughtfully in relevant forums & communities both online & offline.

(4) Submit your website / blog to online directories such as dmos.org, Yahoo directories etc ( These directories have a good PageRank & you can also gain some targeted traffic from them )

(5) Write guest posts on higher PageRank blogs sharing a common niche as of your blog.

(6) Write query based content & always keep your website / blog ( readers / customers / clients ) interest in mind, make sure that they are satisfied after reading what you put on your website / blog.

(7) Take care of 404 Error pages / invalid webpages because Google Indexing bots get stuck & this may hurt your PageRank.

VERY IMPORTANT POINT TO REMEMBER :

Once you create a blog, it’s quite obvious that you wish to see more visitors coming to your blog and reading your blog posts. In this regard I have written a post on “Top 10 ways to promote your blog” to help newbie bloggers understand how to gain more visitors to their blog. You can also consider the following as “Top 10 ways to drive more traffic to your blog”, The top 10 ways... here they are…

1) Social Networking :

It’s quite common that every one of us has an account in at least one of the following Social Networking sites namely Facebook / Myspace / Twitter / Flixya / Orkut etc. Social Networking can help us do more than just keeping in touch with our friends. Selecting a right blog niche is very important aspect of blogging. If you have got the question of “how to select the right blog niche for your blog?” then you are really going on a right niche. Very often it happens that many people just start a blog on a random topic and mess up finally. So I wanted to help newbie bloggers understand the importance of selecting a right blog niche for their blog and also gives some parameters on the basis of which they can make a right choice.

1) IDENTIFY THE TOPIC THAT INTERESTS YOU :

Everyone one of us have an interest in some or the other topic/s. For instance, if you are interested in “Computers / Laptops” say, then you can start a blog on “Computers / Laptops” and provide information about the latest computers & laptops available in the market. Today when i got up and opened Google to browse for some information i noticed the new Google Doodle was cool. I saw one of the apples falling down & an 'O' missing.

So i started browsing the story behind todays Google's new animated Doodle. I realized that today was the 366th birthday of "Sir Isaac Newton" who discovered "The law of Gravity" & Google is celebrating Newton's birthday with the Animated Logo on its homepage. This is probably the was Google Doodle that is animated using Javascript.

People belonging to category ‘A’ spend most of their precious time in Social Networking, Chatting with friends, Watching Videos and playing games, while people belonging to category ‘B’ enjoy all the above things which people from ‘A’ do, meanwhile making huge money out of it with the help of blogging. So it’s meaningless to ignore something that is fun doing and simultaneously helps you make money

3) Selecting a Blog Niche :

Selecting an appropriate blog niche is one of the most important aspects of blogging. Identify the topic that you want to blog on. With my personal experience, I would suggest you to blog on a topic that interests you. For instance You can start a blog on “Gadgets” if you have a great affection towards it.

4) How should I start blogging ?

There are two ways you can start blogging..

a) The Tough way : Buy a domain, buy web space to host your blog & design a website using html / xml or get your blog designed by experts. This way costs you time & money.

b) The Easy way : If you are a newbie to blogging. I strongly suggest that you, sign up for free blogging services such as blogger.com or wordpress.com and start blogging. If you sign-up for these services then you can have blogs like “yourname.blogspot.com” or “yourname.wordpress.com”

5) Post Unique content :

Posting unique content is also one of the most important thing a blogger must remember. Unique content is something that differentiates you from the other bloggers. Unique content get indexed and ranked soon in the search engines. So you can easily get a huge organic traffic to your blog using unique content.

6) Update your Blog Regularly :

Search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing love the blogs which get updated regularly. If you update your blog regularly there is every possibility that your webpages will get indexed soon after you add a blog post. I assure this will happen in real-time if you keep updating your blog post regularly.

7) Do some SEO for your blog :

SEO refers to “Search Engine Optimization”. It’s a fact that most of the blogs get visitors to their blog through organic traffic. To receive a huge organic traffic it’s very important that you have your blog and blogposts Search Engine Optimized. Some of the tips on SEO for your blog :

- Submit your blog to all search engines more specifically Google, Yahoo and Bing.
- Improve your incoming links by submitting links to various directories.
- Participate in forums related to your blog niche.
- Comment on fellow blogger’s blogs which have a same niche as yours.
- Do some researches on “Keywords” before posting posts in your blog.

8) Join various Ad networks to make money :

This should be done only after you start getting enough traffic to your blog. You can sign up for various ad networks such as Google Adsense / Adbrite / Clicksor / Tribal Fusion / Infolinks or Kontera. However many such network need that you drive huge traffic to your blog before getting approval.

9) Focus on Improving your blog constantly. Be creative. Always think about what your readers like. Are your readers going to like something you do? Take their opinions. Take their comments in a positive way.

DULHA MIL GAYA stars Sushmita Sen (as Lisa) playing the ‘queen of oomph’ while Fardeen Khan (as Shashank) plays the ‘prince of confusion’ with Shah Rukh Khan putting in a guest appearance as Raj (‘king of love’). Bumbling Fardeen, sexy Sush, and suave SRK make a colourful troika in this comedy of romance and heartaches.

DULHA MIL GAYA film is directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by Viveck Vaswani. It’s been shot mostly in Malaysia and Trinidad and Tobago. Its shooting got stretched because SRK was too busy with other commitments; also because producer Vaswani, who’s a friend of SRK, allegedly elongated SRK’s role in the movie and wanted more dates from the superstar. Music is by Lalit Pandit and choreography by Ahmed Khan and Howard Rosemeyer.

This comedy of romance and heartaches in DULHA MIL GAYA is what that has to be awaited for till new year...

The much awaited movie ‘Paa’ directed by R. Balakrishnan (Balki) is all set for a worldwide release on 4th December. Paa is a 'rare' story about a father-son, son-father relationship movie.

Everyone is keen around to watch the Amitabh Bachchan’s performance in 'Paa'. The entire story of ‘Paa’ revolves around a 13-year-old boy called Auro (Amitabh Bachchan), who is inflicted with an extremely rare and progressive genetic defect ‘progeria’. Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) in Paa is mentally 13, very normal, but physically he looks 5 times older. Despite his condition, Auro is a very happy boy. He lives with his mother Vidya (Vidya Balan), who is a gynaecologist.

Amol Arte (Abhishek Bachchan), is young, progressive and is full of ideals. He is out to prove to the world that 'politics' is not a bad word. He is a man with a mission. Auro is Amol's son.

The film deals with human emotions and sentiments at different levels with the genetic ailment as the back-drop. How will Amol deal with such a difficult and sensitive issue? Will Auro ever be able to lead a normal & independent life? Is what has to be watched for in Paa.

Many people are fortunate enough to go to school to learn things. But there are many people for whom Streets Teaches everything. Here’s the story of a boy from India called Ravi (now, known as “THE LINGO KID”) for whom the street taught many things.

Ravi “The Lingo Kid”, sells Peacock Feathers on the street near “Hanging Gardens (India)”. The street taught him many languages….I am sure that this videos will bring down the tears in yours eyes.
