For millions of people, the consequences of a poor night's sleep is higher stress, increased mistakes, difficulty concentrating which are every day occurrences.Make sleep a priority by keeping a consistent sleep (bedtime) and wake schedule, including weekends.

Spring Core - Heart of the mattress.

The core of the mattress is the most important part ( Heart of a spring Mattress )in the support of the body.It is made up of steel coils springs, also known simply as coils. The spring mattress core is also called innerspring.Proper support is where the wire coils push back in response to weight deflection to hold the body in alignment.

Number of coils
Basically, the more coils a mattress has, the more support it will give the user. As a general rule, very firm mattresses have a high coil count. Generally, but depending on the mattress size, they come with 300 to 800 coils. Depending on the size, 500 to 800 coils is considered firm. However, some expensive and comfortable mattress only have around 400 coils. and it takes as few as 312 coils in a full mattress to provide decent support. This where cost varies from brand to brand and model to model.

Gauge of the coils
Obviously, heavy gauge (thick) coils will offer a great deal of support while light gauge coils will give less support. A low coil count and heavy gauge wire can pass as a firm mattress in the store, but it is likely that this mattress will become lumpy quickly because it does not have enough coils.

Apart from coils the thickness of border wire also has to be seen. Border wire gives edge support for the mattress as any person sits on the borders while getting into or out of the mattress.

Types of coils
There are two types of coils - Bonnell & Pocketed.

Bonnell - These are the oldest ones and most commonly used. They have an hour-glass shape, and the ends of the wire are knotted. Then each spring is connected in the spring unit through a helical wire.

Pocketed - They are individually pocketed in fabric pockets so that the coils respond individually. when one person tosses and turns, the other doesn't feel it because of this.

You might think that all Spring mattress brands are the same , still they vary in prices. These are very important factors which you have to look into while comparing prices of differet brands.you should always choose the one which would give you value for money.

Types of Mattresses

Cotton Mattress
Cotton Mattresses are hand-made by specialist mattress-makers. They are warm, soft, breathable and absorb body humidity. However they are somewhat outdated. They do not support the spinal column, easily lose their shape, require high and costly maintenance (the cotton needs to be combed and integrated at least once every two years) since, as they absorb body humidity, the cotton gets flat, loses its elasticity. Cotton mattresses are not recommended for people, who suffer from allergies, on account of their high susceptibility to invasion by dust mites.
Foam Mattress
Foam Mattress is made out of polyurethane foam which is produced in blocks and manufactured by continuous production, which is then cut into sizes as required. A good quality polyurethane foam is non-deformable (withstands severe deformation without breaking, and quickly returns to its original size) and therefore is very flexible (it adjusts to the weight, position and size of the person using it). It is a good insulator and hence is suitable in cool or cold climates. Foam mattresses may be used on all types of bed base.
Rubberized Coir Mattress
Rubberised Coir is an organic product as the important raw materials going into their manufacture are from rubber and coconut fibre. This product is bio-degradable and eco-friendly. This is the first consideration in its favour, especially when compared to its competitors like Foam and synthetic products. In the present day when environment and ecological considerations are top-most in every discerning person’s mind, it is only natural that all encouragements and incentives are to be given to increase its production and propagating its use everywhere.
Latex Mattress
Latex Mattresses are made out of natural latex which is secreted from the laticiferous system of the cortex of plants belonging to the Euphorbia family. Extensive use of this material since the beginning of the last century has created the need for mass-produced products similar to natural rubber. For industrial use, latex is produced in single-cell or double-cell blocks, and is either moulded or processed in continuous production. Latex mattresses support the body by responding to single points of pressure: this makes it more accommodating. It is a very elastic material (withstands severe deformation without breaking), resilient (it quickly returns to its original size) and is a good insulator, which makes it suitable for use in hot as well as cold climates.
Spring Mattress
Spring mattresses are the most widely used in the world today. Layers of padding and insulation are laid between springs and the outer covering to ensure a restful and comfortable position. These factors combined with quality and technology give rise to a range of products that may appear identical, but often are not. A spring mattress's structure facilitates internal aeration and provides effective support for the body, and is particularly suitable for people with a large build. It is hygienic and Its high level of breathability makes it ideal for use in areas that are particularly hot. In versions with removable covering and synthetic stuffing, it helps to prevent colonisation by dust mites. A spring mattress's response to weight covers large areas, and not only separate points of pressure.

Neolithic period: The mattress and bed are invented. Beds are raised off the ground to avoid drafts, dirt, and pests. The first mattress probably consists of a pile of leaves, grass, or possibly straw, with animal skins over it.

3600 B.C.: Beds made of goatskins filled with water are used in Persia.

3400 B.C.: Egyptians sleep on palm boughs heaped in the corners of their homes.

200 B.C.: Mattresses in Ancient Rome consist of bags of cloth stuffed with reeds, hay, or wool; the wealthy use feather stuffing.

15th century: During the Renaissance, mattresses are made of pea shucks, straw, or sometimes feathers, stuffed into coarse ticks, and covered with velvets, brocades, or silks.

16th and 17th centuries: Mattresses are stuffed with straw or down and placed atop a bed consisting of a timber frame with support latticeworks of rope or leather.

Early 18th century: Mattresses are stuffed with cotton or wool.

Mid 18th century: Mattress covers begin to be made of quality linen or cotton. The mattress cane box is shaped or bordered, and fillings include natural fibers such as coconut fibre, cotton, wool, and horsehair. The mattress is tufted or buttoned to attach the stuffing to the cover and the edges are stitched.

Late 19th century: The box-spring is invented, making mattresses less lumpy.

1930s: Innerspring mattresses and upholstered foundations become widely used, and artificial fillers become common. Encased coil spring mattresses, which consist of individual springs sewn into linked fabric bags, are introduced.

1950s: Foam rubber mattresses and pillows are available for purchase.

1960s: The modern waterbed is introduced and gains its first widespread use. Adjustable beds gain popularity.

1970s: NASA invents material that later becomes known as memory foam .

1980s: Air mattresses constructed of vulcanized rubber or vinyl are introduced.

1992: Tempur-Pedic introduces a mattress made from memory foam.
