October is ADHD Awareness Month and to help people who are suffering from ADHD, The Perth Brain Centre is running open evenings to help people learn more about the latest evidence-based, drug-free treatment options available.

Daniel Lane, The Clinical Director at the Centre, said that unfortunately people often aren't aware that there are options apart from stimulant medication. "Approaches such as neurofeedback, a kind of brain-training, have level one support from The American Academy of Pediatrics," he said.

Based on the description in the article, it sounds like this study used a traditional form of EEG Neurofeedback.

Some highlights from the article:

Chronic chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common side effect of chemotherapy.

CIPN affects up to 96 percent of patients after a month of chemotherapy treatment.

There were 71 participants with all types of cancer in this study.

Seventy-three percent of participants saw improvement in their pain and quality of life.

The neurofeedback reduced the intensity and unpleasantness of pain and numbness.

The neurofeedback reduced how much pain interfered with daily activities.

A study that will focus exclusively on breast cancer patients experiencing neuropathy was recently funded.

This new technology is an exciting use of brainwave technology, however, it is not neurofeedback.

Huffington Post described the new technology as follows:

In order to walk, the patient wore a cap with electrodes that detected his brain signals. These electrical signals — the same as those a doctor looks at when running an electroencephalogram (EEG) test — were sent to a computer, which "decoded" the brain waves. It then used them to send instructions to another device that stimulated the nerves in the man's legs, causing the muscles to move.

In neurofeedback, we have used an EEG to measure brainwaves and provide brainwave feedback for decades. It is interesting and exciting to see brainwave technology used to help this man walk.

Google News is linking to many versions of this story. Here are three:

I am excited that we are launching a new version of the website as we look forward to sharing the benefits of LENS with more people.

Over the years, I had learned to manage my symptoms of anxiety fairly well, however, it was not until I received LENS neurofeedback that I began to experience freedom from anxiety. My mental clarity has continued to improve long after LENS sessions ended. I continue to become more at ease in social situations. I enjoy sleep more than I once knew was possible.

I was so impressed with the results of LENS neurofeedback that I wanted to make it available to others and I trained to become a LENS Practitioner.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri. I worked in a psychiatric hospital for three years and I offered counseling services in private practice for eight years. My primary focus is now neurofeedback though I am available for counseling in some circumstances. Neurofeedback is not counseling or psychotherapy, though I often draw on my experience as a counselor when providing neurofeedback. I also draw on my experience in small business and my experience with a transnational corporation when I work with professionals who are seeking to optimize their performance with LENS.

I have been honored to provide the LENS to many people over the past year. I have been delighted to see so many achieve improvement of their symptoms and develop a greater sense of ease in their daily lives. I have also witnessed seemingly miraculous results with the LENS. I know that what I witnessed is the extraordinary capacity of the brain and body to regain balance with assistance from the LENS. I want to express my gratitude to the people with whom I have the pleasure of working.

Until recently there has been no effective treatment for traumatic brain injury. Neurofeedback, particularly LENS neurofeedback, is unique in how it works-basically allowing the brain to free itself from frozen, dysfunctional patters-and how rapidly it works-improvements are seen within the first few sessions. "LENS is, without question, the most effective therapy I've seen for TBI."

What is LENS?

Introduction to LENS
The title is a link to the you tube video Dr David Dubin created. It is a wonderful introduction to the LENS.

LENS is at the forefront of new brain technologies. It is unique in terms of how it works, the wide range of its benefits, and the speed and effectiveness with which it works. LENS is particularly effective for anxiety, depression, ADD and traumatic brain injury.
