Here is a fun little shopping inspiration guide for your Saturday. I fell instantly in love with these diamond print accessories from Lanvin. Photo printed pieces have been on my radar lately but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon these that I felt that I wanted—no, needed— to share these with you. I really love the juxtaposition between the decadent blingy print and the canvas material it’s printed on. Even the necklace (which would make for a killer DIY if you have jewelry making skills) is made of glitzy crystals and common rope. I like that while each of these pieces are simple in design and function, they are exceptional enough to become the focal point of your look— no other extraneous baubles are needed.

I gave my ‘movie picks’ feature a makeover, renaming it ‘stylish cinema.’ Instead of showcasing any favorite movie, my picks will be more fashion focused. La Dolce Vita is an Italian film from the 1960s directed by Federico Fellini about the week in the life of a  journalist jumping from party to party, mingling with celebrities and ‘the beautiful people’. Aside from being a great story, it was monumental in the way that it changed the course of filmmaking as well as fashion. (It was also where the term ‘paparazzi’ was coined.) This year has seen a great influx of people getting crafty with the way they paint their nails. Painting one finger a different color (usually the ring finger) has been all the rage these past few months, but now I’ll introduce you to two-tone nails (or, duo-tone). Not a new development in nail art, but a great transition to another trend that isn’t very hard to pull off.

I’m very excited about this DIY because 1) I made it in time for the correct runway season and 2) it’s pink and purple! This is my favorite look from the spring 2012 Bottega Veneta show. They are known for their amazing woven bags and I started taking notice of the brand around the time I started blogging almost two years ago. These dip dyed pants were just screaming for me to DIY them. I chose to use pants I already had but didn’t wear very often, which were khaki chinos from Gap. The colors would have turned out brighter if I started with white pants, which you can choose to do.

Materials not shown: a plastic dropcloth and medium paintbrush

Prepare the dye according to directions on the box (I did one color at a time). Get the pants wet with hot water and ring them out. Lay them on the drop cloth and begin painting on the pink dye haphazardly down the middle of the pant legs. Wait about 5-10 minutes, and pick up pants, letting the excess dye drip off. Flip them over and lay on drop cloth to do the other side. Wait 10 minutes and pick up the pants and ring them out.

After ringing out the pink dye (but not rinsing the pants), lay them back down and paint on the red dye on the outer edges of the pants. When painting on the dye, I made sure to get it as wet as possible and kept layering it to get the color nice and dark, making some areas darker than others.

After you’re finished with the red dye, do the same thing with the purple on the inseam of the legs. To get the splochy effect that you see on the runway pair, I made indents in the fabric so the dye would pool in certain areas, thus making it darker in those parts.

The great thing about this kind of dying technique is that the messier it is, the cooler they will look!

After you let the purple set for 10 minutes, ring out the excess dye. I rolled my pants in an old towel to get more water out for about 5 minutes and then hung them to dry. When they were mostly dry, I stuck them in the dryer to help set in the color. Now they’re finished and ready to wear!

One way to freshen up your wardrobe is to grab a pair of pretty printed denim. There are a lot of amazing options to choose from, but these are my favorites. What can be more springtime than florals? And I’m totally obsessing over these white and tan houndstooth skinnies and the ombre stenciled white jeans. There are so many great alternatives to plain jeans this season— what do you think, will you be rocking this trend?

I got a bunch of great new Forever 21 pieces recently when I went to their new store opening. The first 400 people got gift cards with surprise amounts, and mine had $100 on it (score!!).  Needless to say, I had a fun shopping trip— plus, Kirstin was with me so that’s double the fun! I got these PJ-like pants that are super comfortable and another denim jacket that I plan to DIY. I instagrammed the rest of my finds, so if you’re following (@sprinklesprings) then you already saw those. –Oh!- you see my fancy purple polish? It’s the best color ever, right? Julep’s ‘Anne’- you have to try it! :)

I’m not sure if you can tell by the pictures, but it was a torrential downpour as I was trying to get these photos. I had about 30 seconds worth of time before I just had to grab the umbrella to be in the shots with me! Anyway, it’s been muggy and raining here so this trench and wellies were the perfect accessories to wear since the rain brings a bit of a chill. Julep was kind enough to send over a bunch of nail polish for me to use in some posts, so I thought I’d start off with a Valentine’s Day inspired nail art design. Since February is the unofficial month of pink and red, this is the perfect time for some fun, girly nails. I painted the stripes on by hand for a more artsy doodle look, but you can also tape it off to get a cleaner line.
