Almost 70 hours of uptime, we hope that random disconnects will be a thing of the past.

If you've had us book marked in winamp or other media player, there is a slight chance those bookmarks will no longer work. (kind of a complicated explanation, having to do with DNS, and the way shoutcast and some directories use IP numbers)

Music in the spotlight

I'm afraid all this fuss with technical issues has distracted us from our primary goal, bringing music into your life.. so how about some new music?

You'll feel like you're at a swank party with Gustav Brom and "Tell it Like It Is", it has the feel of a party in some high-rise building, like you might see on some turner classic movie.

Frank Sinatra tells us about his non-existent relationship with "A Fine Romance", having been on a few dates myself, I'd have to say it's probably just as well. Herb Alpert brings us some excellent driving music with "Slick". I don't really know how to describe this one, it's quite good. Look forward to listening to it while driving some time, thats all I can say.

Roland Shaw with his version of "Our Man Flint", to take you on your spy jazz mission. Do you ever listen to spy jazz while doing dull tasks? I find it can really help make boring things seem exciting. Not to sound like a fuddy duddy, but I could see myself listening to "Our Man Flint" while filling up the old gas tank... except for the odd looks you might get from the store clerk.

Julie London with the classic "Love For Sale" done in only the way Julie London can sing it. Bob Thompson with some bachelor pad music, "All the things you are", and then on to a bit of silliness & fun with Al Hirt's performance of "Java".

Stan Gets with some Bossa Nova with "Bim Bom", and finally finishing it off with Enoch Lights space age pop version of "Whatever Lola Wants".

We hope you enjoy, and we're sorry for all the weird technical issues. It would seem that good hosting is hard to find these days... but I think we found our winner.

What a week!

For the past month or so, we've been practicing our witchcraft on the servers and for the most part, the spell has been working. Every so often, at least once a day at random points, there have been some, shall we say, technical issues.

If you happened to be listening during those times, we apologize for the inconvenience.

It would appear technical problems have been monopolizing all of our time as of late, but, we have managed to add some new music to the mix, tracks I hope you'll enjoy!

It's a Bossa Nova Friday!

Some bossa nova from Walter Wanderley, seems fitting in this age where the telephone is more than a telephone. Enoch light with a space-age version of the old classic "Brazil", done in a stero-rama kind of way that only Enoch Light could do.

Neal Hefti with a gay, as in, traditional meaning of the word, song called Tomatoes, which is from the Odd Couple sound track. If you don't feel a little happy, in that gay sort of way, after hearing this tune, you should probably see your therapist.

Well, not being happy is understandable, if you're Shirley Bassey, with her rather sad song about going away. There is something quite dynamic about Shirley Bassey, her voice is incredibly dynamic. You can really hear the emotion in her voice, it's quite sad in that powerful Shirley Bassey sort of way. It's almost too emotional for triviacompanion, but it's worth a listen. Quite powerful indeed.

Sergio Mendes pulls us out of our Shirley Bassey depression, more bossa nova with "Like A Lover" (summer time really is the time for Sergio Mendes) I feel like I'm working in some kind of 1970's sit com show when I listen to this song, the melody kind of carries me along.

But, before we get too carried away in the bossa nova, Julie London comes in, with another semi-sad song, "Cry Me a River". Which, really isn't all that sad, it's kind of uplifting in that liberating sort of way. The guitars in this song really come out, undistorted, un-mangled, just clear, beautiful, electric guitar.

I can't pronounce Martin Botcher but it sure makes me feel good, especially after listening to the hyper-emotional song from Shirley Bassey. It's an easy listening bossa nova in a feels free, feels good kind of way. While it has a choir, there aren't any words, just the beautiful, mellow sounds of human voices with a bossa nova background.

Finally, Serge Gainsbourg ties it up with his jazzy in a get you moving sort of way, song "Woom Woom Woom" which is actually sort of bluesy, but not in a country way. It's more like organ blues. This nice thing about it is, there are no words, so we got to take the lazy way out! (no need for researching the lyrics!)

We just created an in depth page, explaining the proper, permanent way to remove the facebook timeline in a way that is both effective, and opens the door to possibilities many facebook users are unaccustomed to.

Toni Makhoul is from Lebanon, and is not only a very talented musician, but holds a masters degree in Civil Engineering.

We're kind of careful with Gainsbourg, some of his music, in the US anyway, might not be considered work safe for some of the French speaking citizens. With his music, we investigate the lyrics before playing them, this is why you haven't heard as much of him on triviacompanion.

On TriviaCompanion, as it is in all politics, the voting feature depends entirely on your campaign donations.. no, just kidding! but we do use them as a guide when selecting the music for the playlist... so let us know what you like! Tentatively scheduled for Sundays at 23:00GMT, (6:00pm Chicago time) Java's Bachelor Pad has long been known for its mix of space age pop, swanky cocktail jazz and excellent music for your private-eye needs.

What kind of music is Count Basie, Enoch Light or Frank Sinatra?

Stereo-Typing?

We need a name for this kind of music! Jetsonian? Martini Music? (even if you don't drink?) now that "Bachelor Pad" is a tv show and "space pop" some-how refers to electronica.

Lounge Music? well, that means electronica too these days. How about we call it electronotica? cave man congo music? music to blog to? (I've been told it's good writing music) you can beat your blogos to the music of Enoch Light and Count Basie.

As I try to get this stream submitted to as many directories as will have it, I'm struck by the realization that most of them don't even have a "Standards" classification (and if they did, well.. what would that mean to people anyway?) let alone a category that really fits this kind of music.

Jazz could mean just about anything, chances are, if it's not rock, country or polka, people classify it as "jazz" (whats worse, some people lump jazz and blues together... as if they sounded anything alike) Now, I might like Canned heat once in awhile... I don't think of Canned heat as quite fitting in with Jazz.

Normally, I wouldn't be concerned about labels, but if you're trying to reach people who are interested in a given subject, categories are rather essential.

We're Back!

It's been a tough year! In the spring of 2011, financial and license issues forced us offline, and now, nearly a year later, we're back!

Please do us a huge favor and spread the word! We're unable to contact all the previous triviacompanion listeners, who may not be subscribed to this news feed. Thanks to someone from Canada who has taken ownership of the stream, which places it under Canadian jurisdiction. We've gotten a SOCAN license and did a massive site upgrade, including 32k, 64k and 128k versions of the stream. Thank you for standing with us this past year!

New Server

We're in the middle of upgrading the server. The old one was getting a little out-dated.

For the moment, this means there are TWO streams, a private one (which will be phased out) and a new one. As this is based on DNS (stream.triviacompanion.com) the changes should be transparent for most of you.

The old server will be disconnected very shortly, which may cause some people to become disconnected. If this happens to you, please keep trying.
