The collar in the video above is a little too fragile to be added to the store, but I will be making similar smaller pieces in this style soon. I learned a few new techniques during the creation of this piece, and am excited to apply them to more jewellery in the collection!

There was a slight hold-up as I took a a break from the prototypes to create a pair of very special custom rings, but here are some photos of progress so far!

Silver Rings: Very First Prototype

These rings were my very first attempt, and also my first time stone-setting! I was very pleased with them, but they were definitely a bit rough.

Based on these first designs, I was commissioned to create some rings. The commissioned rings turned out very nicely as I had learned a lot from my first effort!

Pendant: First Prototype

This is a prototype design that I made for myself – it is a sharpened pencil shaving pendant.

I am planning on offering a simpler version of this design in the shop, perhaps a little thicker and with customisable ‘paint’ colours. Each of these would be made to order.

I have been meaning to upload this for a little while! This video shows what pieces look like before I fire them, and also the last minute of the firing process.

After the gummy bear has finished sintering and the burner has been turned off, it still glows red hot! I love watching the glow fade as it cools down. After the pieces are cool enough to remove from the mesh I then start polishing them by hand. This can take considerable time, but it is quite a relaxing task. The last part of the video shows several gummy bears at various stages in the polishing process. When they are removed from the mesh the finish is a matte silvery grey colour. This can be gradually brushed and polished away, and then I keep polishing until the piece has a high shine.

These are bubblegum-scented and currently come in three different colours: red, green, and yellow. More colours will be available soon, as well as different kiwiana lolly soaps. These are special because there are no existing molds for giant kiwi lollies. I have had to sculpt and mold a giant original clay lolly for each design before molding them in skin-safe silicon used especially for soap molds.

For now these will be available online, but should also be available in the Squibble Design booth at NZique in Petone next weekend!

It’s been a little while since my last update and it might seem a bit quiet around here, but a lot has been happening behind the scenes.

First of all, I have been busy making improvements to the look and functionality of the shop. These improvements are ongoing so I will be posting updates on this soon. I will also be updating the FAQs page which has been a bit neglected since the last update.

If you are following along on Facebook, you will have seen my recent post about new printed products with Squibble Designs – silk scarves and leggings. I think very hard about where to source materials and products and also about Squibble Design’s carbon footprint. Occasionally I get requests from overseas buyers who would like to purchase items, and the cost of sending even small jewellery items internationally can be very expensive. The new Squibble Design shop at Art of Where will allow for cheaper shipping of some Squibble-themed products for international buyers, as it is based in Canada. I am also happy to say that each item is also hand-made on-site and thoroughly checked before it is shipped to you. For anyone in New Zealand who is interested in these new items, Art of Where does ship internationally. Please keep an eye on the shop news though, as from time to time I may do a wholesale order of some items that I can sell locally.

I also have a new chocolate fish themed design available!

Squibble Design Sample Sale 2014

I am always on the lookout for local alternatives for materials and products. Recently I came across a local printer that also did sublimation-printing on bags, wallets, and other accessories. I was excited to see the finished order as I was hoping this would be a good way to add more locally-made designs to the shop, but was disappointed when they arrived.

Although my designs looked very cute and I would be happy to use the items myself, there were some printing faults which I would not be happy with on products in the long-term.

I have popped the samples up in the sale section for just $10 each! The quality of the items is very good, and they are well-made. Sadly it is just the printing that was not up to scratch.

I will be adding other samples and seconds to the sale page over the coming weeks as I get ready to add some new designs to the store. Keep checking back in!
