No secrets - I am a Movie and TV series fanatic. I previously owned several retail DVD stores, which helped with my "FIX" of the latest TV shows and movies. I don't watch a lot of TV, but certainly watch a lot of DVDs! I love older classic movies, British Comedy and a lot of TV Series. ...

Looking after your border collie puppies isn't that hard but it does take time and effort.Puppies require a lot of attention and care in their formative stages. I want to share some of my tips on raising Border Collies Puppies here with you.I will be adding more to this lens regularly, there is so much to share... so please check back regularly.
Throughout this lens, I show pictures of Pheobe. Pheobe is my daughter, Rhiannon's dog - and she was hand raised. Pheobe was a C-Section delivery, the only puppy in the litter and was rejected by her Mom at birth.
Unfortunately - Phoebe went to the Rainbow Bridge on March 1st 2009 after contracting an auto immune disease that affected her blood platelets. Rhiannon's tribute to Phoebe can be viewed at My Dog Phoebe

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I would share Christmas songs and carols that are from Australia, or have been adapted to an Australian Theme.

Many of the carols shared on this lens are sung to familiar tunes like Deck The Halls and Jingle Bells and I have even convinced my daughter to give us a video rendition on one of the adaptations.

Please enjoy Australian Christmas Carols...

Smoke Detectors: Save Lives

In Australia, there are over 10,000 house fires, causing more than 1,500 injuries and 70 deaths. [Australian Bureau of Statistics: Australian Social Trends 2000 - Housing - Housing Stock: Home fire safety].

In the U.S, statistics show that residential fires result in approximately 84 percent of all fire deaths and 79 percent of the injuries to civilians in 2007. In 2007, there were an estimated 414,000 fires resulting in 2895 civilian deaths, 14,000 injuries and $7,546 million in losses [US Fire Adminstration]

Research and empirical evidence indicates that the installation of a humble Smoke Detector (or Smoke Alarm) reduces the loss in lives and damage to property through early detection and warning of house fires..

Want to know a secret? I love computer games! I love playing adventure games and games that make me think. I just don't get enough time to....

One of the things that I don't like, is having to choose a game in a shop and not know what it is like. They can be so expensive and to choose something I don't like is not great.

So when I found out about free downloadable full version games, I couldn't believe my eyes.

I love Aeroplane Jelly......
Aeroplane Jelly For Me.....

Another trip down the Australiana memory lane. Aeroplane Jelly was, essentially, a staple food in Australian households from 1927 onwards. Even today, we will seek out good old Aeroplane Jelly as a dessert or sweet treat of choice.

Maybe it's because of the really catchy jingle, maybe it's because of Bertie The Jet or maybe it's that we Aussies love to support our own....

Enjoy my trip through memory lane and the profiling of Aeroplane Jelly!

For me Ballroom Dancing is a great method of artistic expression and requires a reasonable level of fitness.

This lens is dedicated to Ballroom Dancing and everything related to it.

My Mum always cries when she hears You'll Never Walk Alone sung. No, not because she's a supporter of the Liverpool Football Club, or because its such a dreadful song (which it isn't) - she cries because it was the song her Dad used to sing...

I recently saw Jimmy Barnes (an Australian Rock Legend) and David Campbell (another Aussie Singer, extremely talented) perform You'll Never Walk Alone on one of the Australian Christmas Carol shows - 2008 Carols By Candlelight at the "Sidney Myer Music Bowl".

David Campbell is Jimmy Barnes son, and seeing these two perform this one song with such passion and feeling was an experience in itself...

This lens is a tribute to the song... and maybe the singers....

The man in the photo is my grandfather, who passed in 1982 after battling cancer. He was an amazing man and sadly missed. This lens is a dedicated to a truly wonderful man.

Creating A Wordpress Membership Site

Until recently the ability to use Wordpress as a Membership site has been a little limited. It has been possible, but I found that it required several independant plugins that needed to be configured 'Just So'.

Then I found that as each Plug-In was updated, or Wordpress updated, the configuration may not work anymore.

Then I found a single Plug-In that does it all and makes the implementation of a Membership site on Wordpress a breeze.

However, the implementing of a membership site on Wordpress (in fact, any membership site) requires some planning and forethought.

This lens will share the planning that I do when implementing a Wordpress Membership site - or any membership site for that matter

The Mark Of A Druid

I had the pleasure of listening to The Mark Of The Druid by Rhonda R Carpenter this week and I was really impressed.

The Mark Of The Druid is a book that Rhonda has written, and then converted into a serialized POD cast. Whilst I would prefer to read a book, I really wanted to listen to Rhondas book, so I downloaded the POD casts and loaded up my iRiver. I intend to buy the book as well.

The Mark of The Druid is a fantasy novel that explores a past life of the two main characters, Eve McCormick and Andrea McMurray - where they are Druids in an ancient celtic clan.

However, the story is not just set 1000's of years ago and our main characters reliving it. Rhonda skillfully weaves their present day activities with their past live experiences.

There are at least 2 other sub plots that flow through the story that by the end of the story are neatly tied up.

There is no doubt about it, I am a proud Canberran. This lens is a tribute to the city I love!

Canberra is the capital city of Australia and has a population of approximately 350,000 and is loated approximately 300 km south of Sydney and 600km north of Melbourne.

Canberra is also aproximately 200km north of the Snowfields and 200km west of the Australian south coast. I feel that we are often spoilt for choice.

I feel that Canberra is more like a large country town than a major city as it has been laid out to incorporate wide open green space.

A great ciy to raise our children in.... enjoy my lens on Canberra, Australia

Bushfire: Australia, Canberra 2003

All proceeds earned through this lens will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009

On Saturday, December 18 2003, my home town of Canberra was devastated by Bushfire. This was the first time in my memory that bushfire even got close to our homes.

During the fires, almost 70% of the Australian Capital Territory's pasture, forests (pine plantations) and nature parks were severely damaged. Mount Stromlo Observatory, a Canberra landmark, was totally destroyed.

Once the fire entered the Canberra suburbs, over a period of 10 hours, four people died and more than 500 homes were destroyed or severely damaged, requiring a significant relief and reconstruction effort.

This shows the progress of the fire over time

This year, 2009, Victoria is ravaged by Bushfire and there are many lives lost and properties ruined.

I've been asked by lots of people, what it was like... what it is like... to be there. I'm certain that it is different for everyone but in 2003, we took photos of just how quickly it occurred and what we saw.

On this lens I share our experience in the Canberra Busfires 2003...

If you would like to help those affected by the Bushfires in Victoria 2009, please consider donating to the Red Cross

Understanding Search Engine Optimization

The term "Search Engine Optimization" (SEO) seems to make many grown Women and Men pale and shudder. I know when I first read about SEO, how important it was to websites and the long laundry lists of things that needed to be done to really rank well in the Search Engines, I felt a little ill myself.

However, I kept reading and modelling what I saw other 'gurus' doing and eventually, it started to become clearer.

Then I found Stompernets Stomping The Search Engines 2 (STSE2) and The Net Effect - and I knew I was onto something.

I want to share a bit about SEO with you and how STSE2 and The Net Effect has helped me and how it can help you too.

My beautiful daughter turns 13 today. I think back to when she was a mere 'bump', when she was a tiny babe in arms, through her preschool and junior years and it brings a tear to my eyes.

Not because my beautiful daughter has become a 'young woman' (I have thought of her like that for so long) but because our journey to reaching this point has been so fulfilling and enjoyable.

When I look back at the past 13 years, I can't believe it has been 13 years! It really seems like yesterday and I'm so sure many Moms (or Mums) will agree with me.

As I celebrate the journey of my wonderful daughter from babyhood to being a teenager, I want to share that with you too..... In Joy!

The Sales Funnel

When sales and marketing people talk about the sales funnel, they are really talking about the number of prospects they have that MAY convert to sales.

The Sales Funnel is a fairly common term in these circles and there is a fairly well defined process of qualification that moves suspects to prospects to qualified buyers to lifelong customers. It's important for all business owners to understand this process - even if they aren't involved in the sales process directly - as they will be able to better support their sales professionals in acquiring new business.

Here is some great information on how you can take suspects to life long customers - simply by understanding the Sales Funnel.

One of the most important parts of your marketing campaign is your sales letter or sales page - the words and images that combine to tell a story to your prospect or site visitor about what you are offering.

Sometimes, a poor or mediocre sales letter will suffice - if your product or service is so compelling that people just have to have it - but often, it is the sales letter that persuades your reader.... As a result - an excellent sales letter is a requirement.

Now - before you cringe and think about how hard or expensive writing a Sales Letter may be -- this lens is designed to help you write your own compelling sales letter or sales page.

As they say - "Content Is King". If you are building a website and want to rank well in the Search Engines - the one thing that most "gurus" agree on is that you need high quality content for your site.

Preferably - you should have high quality, original content for your site.

Did you know though, that you can use content generated by others? Well, you can - but there are a few points of etiquette that you should be aware of before embarking on such plan.

On this lens, I'll be discussing how to legally use content generated by others on your site - and improve Search Engine rankings by doing so.

One strategy when building an online business is to become an Affiliate Marketer.

Affiliate Marketing means that you choose a specific product or service that has been created by someone else and promote it through your email lists and / or websites. When someone buys the product or service through your promotion, you are paid a commission by the product / service owner.

The challenge that many new Affiliate Marketers face is choosing an affiliate program - many new marketers don't even know where to start, while others are confused about who to pick.

I'm going to discuss some of my favorite Affiliate Management networks

Boomer Women: Rediscover Your Dream

Are you a Baby Boomer? Although there is some conjecture over what a Baby Boomer is, the term generally identifies someone who has been born during the middle part of the 20th Century.

In the United States, the Baby Boom Generation is generally associated with culutral icons like Howdy Doody, Woodstock, and the Anti-Vietnam War Movement.

Many Baby Boomer women grew up in an era where the roles of the woman in the home was changing... her mother generally stayed home, kept house and raised the children.

For a Boomer Woman, there was an expectation that she wouldn't have a career, that she would stay home and look after the family - however, times they were achanging... and boy did they change fast.

Today, a Boomer Woman may find that at around the age of 50 - her children have left home and have their own families or lives, hubbie has his hobbies (golf or similar) and our Boomer Woman is at home wondering what to do with herself.

It's time to rediscover her dream....

I'ld like to introduce Inez Bracy from Over Fifty Fine and Fancy - a lifestyle Transition Coach - who helps Boomer Women Rediscover Their Dreams.

Squidoo CSS Tricks: Images and Bullets

The other day I was looking for some ideas to really make my lenses stand out and I came across several SquidPros (that's my term for them) Lenses that really helped.

I have been using CSS for ages to layout my blogs and it never really occured to me that I could use the same techniques on my Squidoo Lenses... DUH! So I started experimenting on my lens, changing font size, changing colors etc.

Now, there are a bundle of great lenses about using CSS to really make your lens pop - this lens takes just two very simple elements and will break them down into very easy to follow steps that you can follow again and again....

I'm going to show you how you can place an image anywhere in your text, so you don't have to rely on the module image.

I'm also going to show you how you can use a custom image in your bulleted lists - instead of the boring plain dots... plus a couple of other nifty little techniques.

Special thanks to those lensmasters who shared their knowledge that helped me realize I could do this. I do pay homage to them a little later on this page.

So sit back and relax, and enjoy the techniques I'm about to share.

As February is International Friendship Month, I thought I would feature my two best friends... Morgan and Rhiannon.

These two amazing young people are my children and I wonder what it is I did to deserve them. I am so seriously blessed by having these two people in my world - and I want to share just how you can be friends with your kids.

Now.... I take my role as a Mum pretty seriously... I'm here to guide these two through life and help them 'be all they can be'.... I'm not sure I expected that they would become my friends and what that would mean to me.

So here's a tribute to my most amazing kids, my friends.

This Lens was awarded 3rd Place in Category in the International Friendship Month Lens Contest

However, it doesn't have to be that way. It is entirely possible to potty train your child in 24 hours - truly!

Here are some tips that I have found from Bedtime and Toilet Training Solutions.

Exit Splash!

If you are running a business website, you should be trying to capture your visitors email addresses so that you can encourage them to revisit your site.

This is one of the basic fundamentals of marketing - whether online or offline - find a way to communicate on a regular basis to your prospects and turn them into life long clients.

Many sites will employ a simple sign up box on their webpages, hopefully with an 'irresistable offer' as a way of thank you....

However it's not unusual for visitors to either miss the sign up box, or not realize the value of the 'irresistable offer' being made.

As such, making an offer as someone exits the page is another way to increase your Lead Capture and possibly sales.

This lens explores using a simple script, know as Exit Splash to make an 'exit offer' to your site visitors.

Enjoy the learning....

When there's an occasion, a promotion, a wedding, a family dinner, a moment to celebrate, wine lovers accentuate the festivities with, what else, a lively spirit: wine. We toast to the moment, share the good will, achievement, and happiness with others, and of course the wine. Somehow, someone is always ready to corkscrew the spirit out and share it.

However, the image that wine has in the minds of many alienates it enough that, and until now, many non wine lovers refuse to sample its wonders.

This lens shares the wonders of wine and the differences in each and every one!

So Cheers! Enjoy!

Worth More Than Rubies by Kathie Thomas

More Than Rubies is poignantly written by Kathie Thomas's as she describes her journey to becoming a Work At Home Mum, a Proverbs 31 Woman and build a profitable flourishing Home Business.

Excellently written and based on her blog http://proverbs31-woman.com, Kathie explores her faith and the challenges of raising 5 daughters, working full time and developing a deeper relationship with her husband.

Kathie deftly points out the advantages, and disadvantages, to being a Work At Home Mum - from the financial advantages and 'being there' for the kids, to having to teach the children that the work equipment is work equipment.

Kathie Thomas should be an inspiration to Women everywhere and if I can be 1/3 the person she is, I will be doing well. Thank You Kathie!

I truly enjoyed reading Worth More Than Rubies and it gave me an insight into being a Work At Home Mum that I have never, ever considered.

What Have You Done To 'Pay It Forward' Today?

I learnt about the 'art' of Paying It Forward from Carol Deckert (pictured left) from RunLancaster.

Paying It Forward is based on the concept of the movie "Pay it Forward". It is based on the premise that acts or deeds of kindness are done without expecting something in return. The acts / deeds are just passed on, with hope that the recipients of the acts of kindness will do the same.

Recently, I was involved in a discussion about what each of us had done to Pay It Forward that day.

I loved the responses that were given - as it gave me other ideas on what I could be doing. It also helped me to realize that I did a number of things each day, that for me were 'normal' but may be considered by others as a 'random act of kindness'.

I want to widen that discussion to include YOU!

Aussie Rock Legend: John Farnham

John Farnham is probably my fave Aussie Rock Legend. There aren't many 'rockers' who appealed to your parents, to you and to your kids... but 'Farnesy' is certainly one.

John Farnham is the only Australian artist to have a number one record in five consecutive decades. Look at the record: "Sadie (The Cleaning Lady)" in 1967, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" in 1969/1970, and "Age of Reason" in 1988; and albums: Age of Reason, Chain Reaction in 1990, Then Again ... in 1993, Anthology 1: Greatest Hits 1987-1997 in 1997, 33 1/3 in 2000 and The Last Time in 2002.

I have most of these in my CD Library.

John Farnham is a Great Aussie Rock Legend -- Enjoy!

The third and final book in a compelling series written by Australian Author Trudi Canavan. The series follows the journey of a Sonea, a young girl found in the slums of Imardin, who is found to have exceptional magical power and accepted (reluctantly) into the Magicians Guild.

The third book is compelling as it follows Sonea guardianship by the High Lord, Akkarin; her discovery regarding Black Magic and the tragic results of that discovery.

No spoilers here! If you want to know the startling completion of this extremely well written series, you are going to have read the book.

Everything Twilight

The Twilight Movie is an American romantic-fantasy film that was released in 2008. Twilight is the first book, in a series of 4, written by Stephenie Meyer.

The Twilight novel was released in 2005.

Although the movie has received rave reviews, it all started with the book by Stephenie Myers and although I wasn't convinced initially, I thought the basic premise of the book sounds a little cheesey, I have to say I was really impressed!

I read the book with little to no idea about it after giving it to my son for Christmas. I 'borrowed' it on Christmas Day and finished it that evening... I really enjoyed it. The 2nd book, New Moon, took me a day to read as well.

I'm now patiently waiting to read the other two books -- our local bookseller had sold out!

Enjoy my tribute to Twilight and check back for updates as I get to see the movie.

I'm adding to this page all the time, so make sure you check back often!

A Brighter Future with LED Lighting

The humble LED (light Emitting Diode) has been around for decades, however, until recently has had little application in domestic and commercial room lighting.

With the advent of new high intensity LED technology this has now changed and we are on the verge of a LED lighting revolution. I have recently replaced some 50 Watt Halogen lamps in my home with a new 8 Watt Ignite LED (see picture) and I am amazed at the result. Not only do these lights look good they reduce electricity usage by over 80%.

This lens is dedicated to all lights LED!

Wordpress Themes allow you to determine the look and feel of your Wordpress blog.

A theme determines how the Header and Footer looks, where navigation elements appear, how wide the sidebars are, what bullet points look like and so much more.

There are some great wordpress themes around - many are free and some are paid. A paid wordpress theme is generally called a premium theme.

Enjoy my showcase of my favorite free and paid wordpress themes.

Johnny Cash - Man In Black

Johnny Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003) was a Grammy Award-winning American country singer-songwriter. Cash is considered to be one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century.

Cash was known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice, the boom-chick-a-boom or "freight train" sound of his Tennessee Three backing band, his demeanor, and his dark clothing, which earned him the name "The Man in Black." He traditionally started his concerts with the announcement "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash!"

Much of Cash's music, especially that of his later career, echoed themes of sorrow, moral tribulation, and redemption. His signature songs include "I Walk the Line," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Ring of Fire," "Get Rhythm," "That Old Wheel" (a duet with Hank Williams Jr.), "Cocaine Blues," and "Man in Black". He also recorded several humorous songs, such as "One Piece at a Time," "The One on the Right Is on the Left," "Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog," "A Boy Named Sue," and a duet with June Carter called "Jackson"; and various railroad songs, such as "Rock Island Line" and "Orange Blossom Special".

He sold over 90 million albums in his nearly fifty-year career and came to occupy a prominent position in the music industry.

I didn't fully appreciate Johnny Cash or his music until after the release of the movie 'Walk The Line'.

I hope you enjoy my tribute to Johnny Cash... If you do, please Favorite This Lens and share it with your friends! You can also contact me and let me know what you think!

Amazing Striped Icebergs

Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions. These amazing photographs show the different effects that occur.

These photographs are not the result of someones creativity with Photoshop! These were taken by Norwegian sailor Oyvind Tangen from aboard a research vessel. The iceberg photographs were snapped in an area several hundred miles north of the Antarctic.

Enjoy these amazing photographs and the explanation of how the effects occur.

The blue stripes in this photograph are formed as iceberg layers melt and refreeze quickly.

Using RSS To Increase Readership and Backlinks

RSS is a great invention and with the evolution of technology most websites now have RSS as a means of delivering content to visitors.

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. However, what it really does is to convert our beautifully formatted webpages to text so that the Search Engine robots (spiders) can index and list our websites.

It is important to know that not all websites have a RSS feed (that's the terminology we tech types like to use). Typically, static websites - those sites that have the content hard coded into the each page - don't have RSS enabled. Dynamic sites like Wordpress do and, in general, the 'feed' is enabled automatically.

We love Firefly

Fyrefly was a TV Series written by the legendary Joss Whedon (of Buffy and Angel fame). A great TV show that met it's demise before the end of the first season!

Why??? Well that's what many SciFi Fans want to know. It was incredibly good and a wee bit funny. Joss imbued the series with a cutting wit that had me rewatching scenes of the show just to make sure "I really did hear that".

I loved Fyrefly - what about you? Haven't seen it, well maybe this lens will encourage you to get it and watch it.
