Squidoo : Lenses by Charlyjl

I'm a business woman who has finally been able to work from home. I love what I do (I always have) but the ability to be at home and be here for my family.

No secrets - I am a Movie and TV series fanatic.&nbsp; I previously owned several retail DVD stores, which helped with my "FIX" of the latest TV shows and movies.&nbsp; I don't watch a lot of TV, but certainly watch a lot of DVDs!&nbsp;&nbsp; I love older classic movies, British Comedy and a lot of TV Series. ...

This lens is created as part of the Extra Credit for Rocket Moms. The challenge - to create a "Top 10" lens.

I thought long and hard about what I wanted to share - and my daughter suggested the Top 10 things to annoy Mom....

I think I've had more than enough experience, on both sides of annoying Mom and being annoyed as Mom to write this lens. So, please enjoy my "Top 10 Things To Annoy Mom"<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/6FIYd0G9LCQ" height="1" width="1"/>

Want to know a secret? I love computer games! I love playing adventure games and games that make me think. I just don't get enough time to....

One of the things that I don't like, is having to choose a game in a shop and not know what it is like. They can be so expensive and to choose something I don't like is not great.

So when I found out about free downloadable full version games, I couldn't believe my eyes.

Take a look at these games.....<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/FpjVyUyREQY" height="1" width="1"/>

Creating A Wordpress Membership Site

Until recently the ability to use Wordpress as a Membership site has been a little limited. It has been possible, but I found that it required several independant plugins that needed to be configured 'Just So'.

Then I found that as each Plug-In was updated, or Wordpress updated, the configuration may not work anymore.

Then I found a single Plug-In that does it all and makes the implementation of a Membership site on Wordpress a breeze.

However, the implementing of a membership site on Wordpress (in fact, any membership site) requires some planning and forethought.

This lens will share the planning that I do when implementing a Wordpress Membership site - or any membership site for that matter<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/zERiHMCWgTE" height="1" width="1"/>

Looking after your border collie puppies isn't that hard but it does take time and effort. Puppies require a lot of attention and care in their formative stages. I want to share some of my tips on raising Border Collies Puppies here with you. I will be adding more to this lens regularly, there is so much to share... so please check back regularly.
Throughout this lens, I show pictures of Pheobe. Pheobe is my daughter, Rhiannon's dog - and she was hand raised. Pheobe was a C-Section delivery, the only puppy in the litter and was rejected by her Mom at birth.
Unfortunately - Phoebe went to the Rainbow Bridge on March 1st 2009 after contracting an auto immune disease that affected her blood platelets. Rhiannon's tribute to Phoebe can be viewed at My Dog Phoebe

Both my kids learn Ballroom Dancing and just love it. Enjoy the videos of their dancing - I am always blown away by how great they are!

For me Ballroom Dancing is a great method of artistic expression and requires a reasonable level of fitness.

This lens is dedicated to Ballroom Dancing and everything related to it.

I have recently discovered Romance Audio Books and am really enjoying experiencing my favourite books being read! Aeroplane Jelly For Me.....

Another trip down the Australiana memory lane. Aeroplane Jelly was, essentially, a staple food in Australian households from 1927 onwards. Even today, we will seek out good old Aeroplane Jelly as a dessert or sweet treat of choice.

Maybe it's because of the really catchy jingle, maybe it's because of Bertie The Jet or maybe it's that we Aussies love to support our own....

Squidoo CSS Tricks: Images and Bullets

The other day I was looking for some ideas to really make my lenses stand out and I came across several SquidPros (that's my term for them) Lenses that really helped.

I have been using CSS for ages to layout my blogs and it never really occured to me that I could use the same techniques on my Squidoo Lenses... DUH! So I started experimenting on my lens, changing font size, changing colors etc.

Now, there are a bundle of great lenses about using CSS to really make your lens pop - this lens takes just two very simple elements and will break them down into very easy to follow steps that you can follow again and again....

I'm going to show you how you can place an image anywhere in your text, so you don't have to rely on the module image.

I'm also going to show you how you can use a custom image in your bulleted lists - instead of the boring plain dots... plus a couple of other nifty little techniques.

Special thanks to those lensmasters who shared their knowledge that helped me realize I could do this. I do pay homage to them a little later on this page.

So sit back and relax, and enjoy the techniques I'm about to share.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/3R8YrSJLbpA" height="1" width="1"/>

If you are running a business website, you should be trying to capture your visitors email addresses so that you can encourage them to revisit your site.

This is one of the basic fundamentals of marketing - whether online or offline - find a way to communicate on a regular basis to your prospects and turn them into life long clients.

Many sites will employ a simple sign up box on their webpages, hopefully with an 'irresistable offer' as a way of thank you....

However it's not unusual for visitors to either miss the sign up box, or not realize the value of the 'irresistable offer' being made.

As such, making an offer as someone exits the page is another way to increase your Lead Capture and possibly sales.

This lens explores using a simple script, know as Exit Splash to make an 'exit offer' to your site visitors.

Enjoy the learning....<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/b15JYTiYwRU" height="1" width="1"/>

My Mum always cries when she hears You'll Never Walk Alone sung. No, not because she's a supporter of the Liverpool Football Club, or because its such a dreadful song (which it isn't) - she cries because it was the song her Dad used to sing...

I recently saw Jimmy Barnes (an Australian Rock Legend) and David Campbell (another Aussie Singer, extremely talented) perform You'll Never Walk Alone on one of the Australian Christmas Carol shows - 2008 Carols By Candlelight at the "Sidney Myer Music Bowl".

David Campbell is Jimmy Barnes son, and seeing these two perform this one song with such passion and feeling was an experience in itself...

This lens is a tribute to the song... and maybe the singers....

In Australia, there are over 10,000 house fires, causing more than 1,500 injuries and 70 deaths. [Australian Bureau of Statistics: Australian Social Trends 2000 - Housing - Housing Stock: Home fire safety].

In the U.S, statistics show that residential fires result in approximately 84 percent of all fire deaths and 79 percent of the injuries to civilians in 2007. In 2007, there were an estimated 414,000 fires resulting in 2895 civilian deaths, 14,000 injuries and $7,546 million in losses [US Fire Adminstration]

Research and empirical evidence indicates that the installation of a humble Smoke Detector (or Smoke Alarm) reduces the loss in lives and damage to property through early detection and warning of house fires..

John Farnham is probably my fave Aussie Rock Legend. There aren't many 'rockers' who appealed to your parents, to you and to your kids... but 'Farnesy' is certainly one.

John Farnham is the only Australian artist to have a number one record in five consecutive decades. Look at the record: "Sadie (The Cleaning Lady)" in 1967, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" in 1969/1970, and "Age of Reason" in 1988; and albums: Age of Reason, Chain Reaction in 1990, Then Again ... in 1993, Anthology 1: Greatest Hits 1987-1997 in 1997, 33 1/3 in 2000 and The Last Time in 2002.

I have most of these in my CD Library.

John Farnham is a Great Aussie Rock Legend -- Enjoy!

Johnny Cash - Man In Black

Johnny Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003) was a Grammy Award-winning American country singer-songwriter. Cash is considered to be one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century.

Cash was known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice, the boom-chick-a-boom or "freight train" sound of his Tennessee Three backing band, his demeanor, and his dark clothing, which earned him the name "The Man in Black." He traditionally started his concerts with the announcement "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash!"

Much of Cash's music, especially that of his later career, echoed themes of sorrow, moral tribulation, and redemption. His signature songs include "I Walk the Line," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Ring of Fire," "Get Rhythm," "That Old Wheel" (a duet with Hank Williams Jr.), "Cocaine Blues," and "Man in Black". He also recorded several humorous songs, such as "One Piece at a Time," "The One on the Right Is on the Left," "Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog," "A Boy Named Sue," and a duet with June Carter called "Jackson"; and various railroad songs, such as "Rock Island Line" and "Orange Blossom Special".

He sold over 90 million albums in his nearly fifty-year career and came to occupy a prominent position in the music industry.

I didn't fully appreciate Johnny Cash or his music until after the release of the movie 'Walk The Line'.

I hope you enjoy my tribute to Johnny Cash... If you do, please Favorite This Lens and share it with your friends! You can also contact me and let me know what you think!<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/f9MEb4YbA9s" height="1" width="1"/>

Bushfire: Australia, Canberra 2003

All proceeds earned through this lens will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009

On Saturday, December 18 2003, my home town of Canberra was devastated by Bushfire. This was the first time in my memory that bushfire even got close to our homes.

During the fires, almost 70% of the Australian Capital Territory's pasture, forests (pine plantations) and nature parks were severely damaged. Mount Stromlo Observatory, a Canberra landmark, was totally destroyed.

Once the fire entered the Canberra suburbs, over a period of 10 hours, four people died and more than 500 homes were destroyed or severely damaged, requiring a significant relief and reconstruction effort.

This shows the progress of the fire over time

This year, 2009, Victoria is ravaged by Bushfire and there are many lives lost and properties ruined.

I've been asked by lots of people, what it was like... what it is like... to be there. I'm certain that it is different for everyone but in 2003, we took photos of just how quickly it occurred and what we saw.

On this lens I share our experience in the Canberra Busfires 2003...

If you would like to help those affected by the Bushfires in Victoria 2009, please consider donating to the Red Cross<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/irriJqfTxIc" height="1" width="1"/>

Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions. These amazing photographs show the different effects that occur.

These photographs are not the result of someones creativity with Photoshop! These were taken by Norwegian sailor Oyvind Tangen from aboard a research vessel. The iceberg photographs were snapped in an area several hundred miles north of the Antarctic.

Enjoy these amazing photographs and the explanation of how the effects occur.

The blue stripes in this photograph are formed as iceberg layers melt and refreeze quickly.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/Y4EShntL1tc" height="1" width="1"/>

One of the most important parts of your marketing campaign is your sales letter or sales page - the words and images that combine to tell a story to your prospect or site visitor about what you are offering.

Sometimes, a poor or mediocre sales letter will suffice - if your product or service is so compelling that people just have to have it - but often, it is the sales letter that persuades your reader.... As a result - an excellent sales letter is a requirement.

Now - before you cringe and think about how hard or expensive writing a Sales Letter may be -- this lens is designed to help you write your own compelling sales letter or sales page.

Enjoy!<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/YOPCLBpuLew" height="1" width="1"/>

When sales and marketing people talk about the sales funnel, they are really talking about the number of prospects they have that MAY convert to sales.

The Sales Funnel is a fairly common term in these circles and there is a fairly well defined process of qualification that moves suspects to prospects to qualified buyers to lifelong customers. It's important for all business owners to understand this process - even if they aren't involved in the sales process directly - as they will be able to better support their sales professionals in acquiring new business.

Here is some great information on how you can take suspects to life long customers - simply by understanding the Sales Funnel.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/Dm0-AXiqKCU" height="1" width="1"/>

One strategy when building an online business is to become an Affiliate Marketer.

Affiliate Marketing means that you choose a specific product or service that has been created by someone else and promote it through your email lists and / or websites. When someone buys the product or service through your promotion, you are paid a commission by the product / service owner.

The challenge that many new Affiliate Marketers face is choosing an affiliate program - many new marketers don't even know where to start, while others are confused about who to pick.

I'm going to discuss some of my favorite Affiliate Management networks<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/mD8dECUCLaw" height="1" width="1"/>

Boomer Women: Rediscover Your Dream

Are you a Baby Boomer? Although there is some conjecture over what a Baby Boomer is, the term generally identifies someone who has been born during the middle part of the 20th Century.

In the United States, the Baby Boom Generation is generally associated with culutral icons like Howdy Doody, Woodstock, and the Anti-Vietnam War Movement.

Many Baby Boomer women grew up in an era where the roles of the woman in the home was changing... her mother generally stayed home, kept house and raised the children.

For a Boomer Woman, there was an expectation that she wouldn't have a career, that she would stay home and look after the family - however, times they were achanging... and boy did they change fast.

Today, a Boomer Woman may find that at around the age of 50 - her children have left home and have their own families or lives, hubbie has his hobbies (golf or similar) and our Boomer Woman is at home wondering what to do with herself.

It's time to rediscover her dream....

I'ld like to introduce Inez Bracy from Over Fifty Fine and Fancy - a lifestyle Transition Coach - who helps Boomer Women Rediscover Their Dreams.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/Aoxa4h8XiVU" height="1" width="1"/>

More Than Rubies is poignantly written by Kathie Thomas's as she describes her journey to becoming a Work At Home Mum, a Proverbs 31 Woman and build a profitable flourishing Home Business.

Excellently written and based on her blog http://proverbs31-woman.com, Kathie explores her faith and the challenges of raising 5 daughters, working full time and developing a deeper relationship with her husband.

Kathie deftly points out the advantages, and disadvantages, to being a Work At Home Mum - from the financial advantages and 'being there' for the kids, to having to teach the children that the work equipment is work equipment.

Kathie Thomas should be an inspiration to Women everywhere and if I can be 1/3 the person she is, I will be doing well. Thank You Kathie!

I truly enjoyed reading Worth More Than Rubies and it gave me an insight into being a Work At Home Mum that I have never, ever considered.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/SquidooLensesByCharlyLeetham/~4/YK9qQ6nieIw" height="1" width="1"/>

The humble LED (light Emitting Diode) has been around for decades, however, until recently has had little application in domestic and commercial room lighting.

With the advent of new high intensity LED technology this has now changed and we are on the verge of a LED lighting revolution. I have recently replaced some 50 Watt Halogen lamps in my home with a new 8 Watt Ignite LED (see picture) and I am amazed at the result. Not only do these lights look good they reduce electricity usage by over 80%.
