Choulam (Tonsure), in various religions, a ceremony of initiation in which hair is clipped from the head as part of the ritual marking one's entrance into a new stage of religious development or activity.

Tonsure is usually the part of three rites of passages in the life of the individual in Hinduism. The first is called Chudakarana, also known as choulam, chaula, chudakarma, or mundana, marks the child's first haircut, typically the shaving of the head. The mother dresses up, sometimes in her wedding sari, and with the father present, the baby's head is shaved and nails trimmed, washed and dressed in new clothes. Sometimes, a tuft of hair is left to cover the soft spot near the top of the baby's head. Both boys and girls typically go through this ceremony, sometimes near a temple or a river, but it is not mandatory in Hinduism.

The significance of Chudakarana rite of passage is the baby's cyclical step to hygiene and cleanliness. The ritual is typically done about the first birthday, but some texts recommend that it be completed before the third or the seventh year. Sometimes, this ritual is combined with the rite of passage of Upanayana, initiation to formal schooling.

The second rite of passage in Hinduism that sometimes involves tonsure is at the Upanayana, the sanskara marking a child's entry into school.

Another rite of passage where tonsure is practiced by Hindus is after the death and completing the last rites of an immediate family member, that is father, mother, brother, sister, spouse or child. This ritual is regionally found in India among male mourners, who shave their heads as a sign of bereavement.

Karnavedha (Ear Piercing) or Karnavedham is one of the sixteen major samskaras (sacraments) known as "Shodasha Samskaras" of Sanatana Dharma. It is an ear piercing ceremony that is typically performed between the first and fifth years of life. This can also be performed during later years. Karnavedha is considered a vedic rite of passage with symbolic spiritual significance.

Brahmins, especially those studying the vedas, undergo karnavedha and the other samskaras during the course of their lifetime. The samskaras are mentioned in the Brahmana portion of the vedas. Some scholars advise that the performance of karnavedha should be considered just as important as upanayanam (sacred thread ceremony - another major samskara) and the other sacraments as each holds its own symbolic spiritual value.

The legend connected with this temple says, that one Thai Amavasyai day a wandering sage named Salihothran reached Thiruvallur where he met a congregation of sages. They were engaged in taking bath in the tank Hrith-Thapa-Nasini and he was also advised to take bath before performing his daily rituals. The bath changed the mind and Sri Salihotran decided to stay at the bank of that Holy tank and start a penance without food or water for one year. The next year on the same Pushya Amavasya day he completed his penance and took a holy dip in the Hrith-Thapa-Nasini tank and observed his morning prayers. As he was fasting for one year without food and drink, he collected on that day some paddy and prepared prasadam using rice flour.

At this juncture Lord Narayana took the form of an old Brahmin and came the way where Salihotran was waiting to offer a share to a guest. He immediately offered the food to the Brahmin who ate up the offering. Salihotran understood that the old Brahmin was very hungry and immediately offered his share also to the guest too. The guest was satisfied and left the place. Another one year of penance continued without any food and drink. Again on the day of Pushya Amavasya Salihotran took his holy bath and after his prayers prepared food as he did the previous year. He offered the food to Sri Narayana and was waiting for a guest. This time also Lord Narayana took the form of an old Brahmin and he was welcomed by Salihotran to his hermitage.

The old Brahmin expressed that he was feeling extremely hungry and thirsty and needed a place to rest. After taking prasadam the old Brahmin expressed to Salihotran, 'where is the place for me to lie down?' (Evvul?) 'In this hermitage', (Ivvul), answered Salihotran. The old man was pleased at this offer and stretched his body in the hermitage putting his head towards south. Immediately the old Brahmin transformed himself into the form of Sri Narayana and Adisesha appeared with his thousand hoods to serve as couch and canopy.

On request from Salihotra Maharishi, the Lord promised that he would permanently stay there and that he would bless and relieve everyone who prays to him after taking bath in the tank of his/her diseases and miseries. Hence He is called Sri Vaidhya Veeraraghava Swamy.

Sojugada Sooju Mallige is a kannada language folk song sung on Lord Shiva who is also worshipped by other names Mahadeva aka Maadeva, resides on Male Maadeshwara Hills, Karnataka. This devotee of Maadeva has come climbing this high hill and is singing to him about what all she has got to worship him. At the age of 5, Ananya's parents sent her to singing and dance classes while growing up in Mysore upon realising that their daughter is quite a talent. She would learn Sugama Sangeetha (Light music) to begin with. She attended Natana School Of Theatre Arts, where she met her biggest inspiration Raju Ananthaswamy whom she considers an idol. Even though she was learning Ranga Geethe (Theatre songs), Sugama Sangeetha and Bhava Geethe together, Ananya would develop a special interest towards Folk music and thus the self discovery of her own talent.

According to the Union health ministry’s data at 8am, there are 7367 active cases, 716 people have been cured, discharged or migrated.

India on Sunday morning reported 8,356 people have contracted the coronavirus disease and 273 have died across the country, with more than 900 cases and 34 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The new numbers come a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi indicated the 21-day lockdown across the country may be extended beyond April 14.

The Prime Minister stressed on Saturday that the new challenge was not only to save lives but livelihoods as well as he spoke with several chief ministers to discuss the lockdown ordered last month to stop the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus disease and other issues.

PM Modi said that the government earlier motto was ‘jaan hai to jahaan hai’ [when you have life, you have the world]. “Now it is ‘jaan bhi jahaan bhi’ [save life, and livelihood],” he said, signalling a shift in the Centre’s approach.

He is yet to take a decision on the extension of the three-week national lockdown but several states have independently announced an extension of the restrictions till the end of April.

The government has also emphasised the importance of strict restrictions put in place on March 25.

A health ministry official said on Saturday the number of Covid-19 cases in India could have even reached a figure of 820,000 by April 15 without the containment measures and nationwide lockdown.

The government has said that the country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has been pre-emptive and proactive to the extent of being over-prepared, which has helped in preventing ballooning of the number of positive cases.

According to Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 tracker, there are 1,776,157 cases and 108,804 fatalities worldwide as of Sunday.

The United States surpassed Italy on Saturday as the country with the highest reported coronavirus death toll, recording more than 20,000 fatalities since the outbreak began.

It supports multi-tenancy architecture that enables each tenant to configure their services as per their requirement. It supports UNICODE thus enabling services to be accessed in local languages.

ServicePlus provides a host of benefits to citizens. It provides a single unified portal to the citizen for accessing any service, track submitted applications, subscribe to alerts etc.

ServicePlus (https://serviceonline.gov.in) has been recognized by several Government Departments across.7 the States. Rail Coaches turned isolation wards

Central government is taking various steps to combat coronavirus menace including a 21 days lockdown, telemedicine etc.,

Our railways ministry also have initiated a novel idea. Indian Railways has converted train coaches into isolation wards for COVID-19 patients in prepare of an emergency situation.

In view of increasing number of patients, this might be a great option for to create more isolation wards and beds, other than government hospitals. Railway minister Shri. Piyush Goyal announced this on his twitter handle yesterday.

How to send donation for PM CARES fund

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a citizen assistance and relief in emergency situation fund (PM CARES Fund) for people to contribute to government's fight against coronavirus. The fund has been announced with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation, and to provide relief to the affected. PM Modi will be the chairman of this trust and its members will include defence minister, home minister and finance minister.

“People from all walks of life expressed their desire to donate to India’s war against COVID-19. Respecting that spirit, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India,” PM Modi tweeted.
