Safe Environment & Background Check Renewal

Greetings from the Diocese of Phoenix Office of Protection and Empowerment!

The Safe Environment Training fiscal year runs from July 1st and ends June 30th. Today is July 1st, this means everyone's Safe Environment Training expires today, so it is time to complete your Safe Environment Training for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

The focus of our training this year is on reporting and understanding the signs and symptoms of abuse in children.

The Safe Environment Training requirements in the Diocese of Phoenix are:

Complete your training
Have a valid and approved background check.

***Without these 2 requirements, your Safe Environment Training is not complete**

Please follow the steps below to confirm if it is necessary to renew your background check for the fiscal year (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027):

Click the “Dashboard” tab on the left side of your screen.
Locate the “Background Check Status” section of your account as highlighted in the sample below.
- If your expiration date is AFTER 7/1/2027, your screening is still current, and you do not need to take any additional steps at this time. Please Log Out.
- If your expiration date is 7/1/2027 or before, please continue to Step 3 to renew your background check requirement.
Locate the Criminal Background Check Renewal module in your Required Trainings area and click Start to complete the process for renewing your background check. Furtjer instructions added here:

2. Verify and update your Profile Information by clicking on the “Edit Profile” section on the left.

Please make sure to indicate your primary ROLE. You can only pick one.
Please make sure to indicate your primary CATEGORY. You can only pick ONE.

· Volunteer
· Educator (ONLY for Catholic School Teachers & Employees)

* Roles or Categories not listed above require prior authorization from your local SET Coordinator.

3. Please choose only ONE training under the “Required Trainings” to complete your SET requirement.

4. Go to your “Dashboard” and click on the ONLINE Renewal Video.

* If you do not see an ONLINE Renewal option under “Required Trainings”, you must take the Foundation option (available LIVE and ONLINE).

A Letter from Father Keith Kenney

Brothers and sisters,

We've made it to the hot summer months. Every summer I question my decision to return to Arizona. Then I remember those cold Ohio winters and remind myself that I made the right choice!

During June, July, and August, St. Anne reduces our schedule so that our priests can take vacation. The weekday schedule will be confession Monday through Friday from 10:45am - 11:45am. Weekday Mass Monday through Friday at 12:00pm. There will not be a morning confessions on Saturday. The weekend Mass schedule will remain unaffected. Saturday Vigil at 4:00pm. Sunday Mass 7:00am, 9:00am, 11:00am (Solemn Mass), 1:30pm (Spanish), and 5:30pm.

In other news, we will be receiving another priest for our community on the 1st of July: Fr. Michael Gilbert. When we return to our fuller schedule in September, I will add back the 7:00am Mass Monday through Saturday.

The Ministry of Care visits the sick and homebound as an extension of the sacramental life of the Parish, bringing them Holy Communion and assuring them of the constant prayers of the community. As Christians, we are all called to care, comfort and offer companionship to our fellow parishioners that are sick or homebound.
