And then, suddenly (just for you, babe)…

What if…?  Adam asked.  And he made the idea OK.

After a bit of a rocky road, Taos was born a couple of years later.  And now he’s a toddler.  And we can’t teach him fast enough.

I’m not the type to brag about our son, but I will say that watching him develop has been the most amazing thing.

I have no idea what’s normal, but our little boo is learning the alphabet and numbers and like I said, we can’t teach him fast enough. So cool.

And come July, there will be another little Williams and we cannot wait.

In case you’re not aware, you’ll get an email in broken English, sometimes better than others, with a vague sense of a client arriving in to “your location” sometime in the future.  A session is booked and paid for with a bogus cashier’s check often in an amount greater than what the spammers owe.  The photographer is requested to refund the difference.

She will be needing 1hr photography session per day, 2 Sessions per week for 6 weeks. Ms Cardelli, asked me to come with her to America but i told her i would not be able to go with her as i have a course i will be going for in a week time so i promised to help her get a good Photographer in your Area..

Pls tell me a little more about your self, how long have you been a Photographer? and would you be able to provide her with the photography session from the 27th of FEB to the 10th of April, 2 Sessions per week for 6 weeks.

I need you to get back to me with the amount you Charge for a personal photography session that would include a disk for  print and also let me know if she can pay you with a Certified check drawn from a US bank?

TIPS FOR PHOTOGRAPHING A BABY’S FIRST HAIRCUT

1. Make sure you have a photo-friendly stylist.  Ours was awesome!

2. Move around and look for creative angles. Get close and back up.

3. Have someone else there with you.

4. Go to the salon during their least busy time so you are free to roam and your little one isn’t overwhelmed.

5. Be unobtrusive.  This isn’t very difficult since your babe will be so engrossed in what’s going on, they may even forget you’re around.

6. Turn off your flash and bump up your ISO, if necessary.  With all of those mirrors around, you can end up with some icky distractions from your flash.

7. Enjoy the experience and try to make it fun!

8. Be your family’s own photojournalist.

Everywhere we go, we see lots of families with DSLRs, yet I know that many of you are intimidated by all of the settings.  This post is for you!

For starters, what the heck is a DSLR?  It stands for digital single lens reflex.  That means that when you look through the lens, that is essentially the image that will end up as the digital file.  If you remember the tall, boxy cameras with two lenses, those were called Twin Lens Reflex cameras.  The lens you looked through and the lens that actually took the picture were not the same.  No worries, now, though!

Three basic functions control the way in which your camera lets in light: the ASA/ISO (film speed), the shutter speed and the aperture/F-stop.

ASA stands for American Standards Association and ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization.  They both refer to the film speed which can vary from 25 to more than 12,800, depending on the capabilities of your camera.  A lower number is recommended for use in brighter situations.  It has the least grain or noise (noise can look like a very pixelated image).  Higher speeds (higher numbers) are used for low-light or high-action situations.

Shutter speed lasts from several seconds down to a fraction of a second (Bulb-1/8000 sec.)  It controls how long your shutter is open.  Anything less (slower) than 1/60 of a second may show camera shake (blur) if not on a tripod.  Faster shutter speeds are recommended for fast action.

F-stop or Aperture (appear as whole numbers or with decimals) indicates the size of the opening of the lens and therefore, how much light comes in.  The smaller the number (F1.4, for example), the bigger the opening of the lens and less depth of field (what’s in focus).  The bigger the number, the smaller the opening and greater depth of field.  Think of it like the pupil of your eye.  A very dilated pupil would be like F1.4.  Your pupil in bright sunlight would be more like F22.

This number also indicates the speed of the lens.  We say a lens that can shoot at 1.2 or 2.0 is a fast lens.  Typically lenses that can shoot at lower f-stops are sharper.  See below for an illustration.

M=Manual (most control=best exposure)
Tv=Shutter Priority (you control shutter speed, camera determines f-stop/aperture)
Av=Aperture Priority (you control aperture, camera determines shutter speed)
P=Program (camera determines shutter speed and f-stop, but does not automatically fire pop-up flash)
Green Square(full auto, least control)

So, GoogleReader, you are now immensely clean and uncluttered.  If only that were the case for our home.

This is all part of my 2012 process to refine.  Refine my vision.  Refine my priorities.  Refine how to live life and not let life live me.

Part of being a small business owner is the inability to turn the emotional business light off. Gears are perpetually spinning, though I don’t see that as a bad thing.

And it takes lots of persistence and experimenting and ideas and the willingness to ignore fear and potential failure.

I think Adam may have shot this, though I’m not for sure.  There’s something contemplative about it, which is how I’m feeling right now as I write this.
