I always notice birds and look forward to spring!  While walking my dog at the park I look for nests and sometimes baby birds. From this I am inspired to create tiny replicas. This was the first set of nest earrings.

Egg Nest Earrings!

No two pairs are alike. This set has one big fat white pearl egg. They remind me of the story “Horton Hears a Who.”  I have other nests with 2 or 3 tiny pearls. Some are pale green, pale pink or champagne colored fresh water pearls.  Some are longer and dangle 1 ½”-2” or short and hang 1” like the ones above.

Soups On!

Sometimes there’s nothing as comforting on a cold day as walking into a warm house with good smells radiating from the kitchen. To honor this I bought myself a new soup pot. The one I have been using was from 1985!!! It was part of a set I bought at Sears (!!)  Most of the Silverstone coating was scratched off. It had put in 27 years of service and wanted (yes really, it spoke to me) to be retired.  The new pot is cast iron and made in France. Not only is it beautiful but it makes me smile every time l see the chicken on the lid. Here is one of many pots of veggie soup that will grace our table this cold winter.

Here is my basic veggie soup recipe:

1 onion, diced                       1 can diced tomatoes

1 carrot, chopped                1/2 head cabbage, chopped

3 ribs celery, chopped       1-2 Tbs tomato paste

2-3 zucchini, sliced             3-4 C broth (any will work. I use Miso or chicken stock most frequently)

8oz sl mushrooms               Herbs: basil & thyme,  Salt & Pepper to taste

1 Bell Pepper, diced           3-4 C broth (any will work. I use Miso or chicken stock most frequently)

–Sautee the onions carrots & celery in a bit of olive oil until softened.

–Add the bell pepper, zucchini & mushrooms; sauté until all are softened.

–Add tomatoes and broth bring to boil, then lower and simmer covered 5-10 minutes.

–Stir in the tomato paste, seasonings, salt & pepper.

–Blend with hand Braun or put 1/2 the soup veggies in a blender purée. Make sure you leave 1/2 -1/3 of the soup chunky.

–Add the puree back to the pot stirring  in the cabbage and bring to boil. Lower the heat, cover and simmer until the cabbage is tender (10-20 min)

You can add a variety of other veggies to this soup. If you don’t have fresh, use frozen veggies. Slice up some sausage or left over chicken.  Add a can of kidney (or any) beans, Top with parmesan, feta or gorgonzola cheese. It’s really hard to go wrong this one!

This is Molly! She is young in this picture but she’s an old girl in real life. As we all do, Molly is experiencing some aches & pains in her golden years. This Cameo Key chain is a gift for her mom. I know she’s gonna love it!

A client of mine, Matt, asked me to design a piece for his wife Claire.  She is a hobby photographer and loves using with her large format camera.  Matt told me that Claire has an affinity for heart shaped rocks and takes images of them all the time.

A friend of mine, Kim Kuenlen of NorCal Aussie Rescue, has a great driver’s helper. His name is Ed. When he’s in trouble mom calls him Edgar.

Ed helps Kim be a good driver. It is the funniest thing… He sits on her lap and places his paw on the steering wheel. When Kim turns the wheel, he removes his paw just long enough and replaces it when she’s done.

I jokingly tell Kim that Ed is her Seeing Eye dog!

So if you see the big gray NorCal Aussie van on the road, honk and smile at Ed!

Big Boy!

Ann Marie was a waitress at  the fabulous Magpie Cafe (everything is good there but do try the creme brulee!). We met while my husband and gal pal were out to dinner after one of my holiday shows. Not only were the food and ambiance great, our waitress was on top of everything. She orchestrated a wonderful evening and finished by complimenting my jewelry. I told her about my art and where the show was the next day. She wanted to get her sister the perfect Christmas Gift. Low and behold she came the next day, we talked about what she wanted and how I would create it. She sent me images and I knew why her sister was  in love with this dog! Isn’t he a ‘beaut?!   The back reads: The Man Of My Life! Ann Marie emailed the day after Christmas. Her  sister LOVED her gift:)

Monster & Mom

Monster was tiny in stature but large of heart. I met Tia, Monster’s Mom, when we struck up a conversation about poochies in her shop-The Bamboo Home Store, 106 Mill St Grass Valley. ( I love everything they sell. I could LIVE in my nightgown!)

She had me make teeny tiny dog tags for her two dogs. When I came to deliver them something bad had happened and Monster had died. She left this world too early. After shock and sadness, Tia commissioned me to create this cameo of her best girl.  I hope it helps soothe her broken heart and remind her of the time they shared. My sincerest condolences to you, Tia.
