I received the following email from Caroline:

I have purchased several pieces of your work from Mari Rodriguez at The Honorable Dalmation. I love, love, love your work!!!

I would like to place an order with you for a custom cameo pendant of my dog, Mazie.  Her pronounced underbite is a big part of her charm, so I would love that to show up in her cameo.

After Caroline received the finished product, this is what she had to say:

OMG!! Just got home from a vacation, picked up my mail from my neighbor, and tore open your envelope. I love it!! It’s Mazie, and it’s perfect! Thank you, Stacey. Next year, you must give me some promotional materials to take to dog camp (Camp Winnaribbun). Sept. 1-7, 2013 at South Lake Tahoe. I guarantee you will get orders – probably many – from the dog owners who go to the camp.

 Thank you so much! I love it. Mazie is a library reading dog in our local Tales to Tails program. I’ll be wearing the necklace next time we go, and I know the kids will also love it!

Emily Chickenson (pictured above left), Betty White (she’s a very plucky little hen), Lefty (her comb covers her right eye), and Snow White.

I recently rescued four Turlock hens from Animal Place (see the story of the abandoned hens here: http://animalplace.org/emergency-turlock-hen-rescue).  They are venturing out of the henhouse and into the great outdoors.  These poor girls never walked on grass, saw sunshine, or were able to stretch their wings freely.  They were cooped eight to a cage, side by side, beaks tipped.  They are, however, happily prolificly laying eggs.

My other girls have now taken to laying eggs in the tractor barn, of course in a very difficult to reach corner.  I guess they want their privacy!

I met Alicia at the San Francisco Contemporary Craft show last spring. Alicia Van Fleteren jewelry is very cool.  Her designs are vibrant and imaginative pieces with a bohemian edge.

Imagine how flattered I was when I got an email with an inquiry from a fellow jeweler! She wanted her sister-in-law’s mule done in a cameo:) for a gift.  I had never made a mule cameo before.  Here is the handsome Jerry Chickpea Chan, with his finished cameo:

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!!  I especially love the texturing of his coat with swirls and flowers.  I think she’s going to love this so much.  I will definitely let you know.  Thank you for finishing it so quickly.

Most of the time, I don’t actually get to meet my models but this time I did! It was at the Scotts Valley Art & Wine show last month. A woman wheeled a small stroller into the my booth, with a tiny old poodle inside that looked like (if you remember) Shari Lewis’ Lamb Chop.  This little lamb pooch’s name is Ginger.  When Ginger’s mom saw the cameo sign, she asked me about it and exclaimed “I’ve gotta go get my husband!” and dashed out of  my booth. Now that was the first time I’d ever heard that one. I looked at my assistant and wagered if she was coming back.  A moment later she hurried back in and introduced me to her husband.

Ginger’s Dad, Jeff, loves her so much his license plate reads: JEFFGIN.

Jeff will get his cameo key chain in the mail soon.  The back of the key chain also reads JEFFGIN. Someday, when Ginger is gone, he will have a talisman to remember her by.

I met Fiona & her mom, Valerie, at an art & wine show. Fiona saw my cameos and said she wanted one of her beloved little dog Roo. Valerie slyly took my card as they left the show. It turns out Fiona had a birthday coming, so her mom emailed me an image and ordered a cameo. Valerie was sure that Fiona thought she had fogotten.  Here is what Valerie had to say about the suprise birthday gift Fiona got from her best friend Roo!

Fiona was so surprised and thrilled to receive her necklace.  In fact last week she asked if I had contacted you and somehow managed to not give it away!  All jewelry has been removed for Roo to hang… This is something Fiona will always treasure, her first dog Roo who means a lot to her.  I anticipate there will be more orders:)

I have the cutest birdhouse in my garden that I bought from Connie Chadwick years ago at the Art Fiesta in Sacramento.  Every spring, it boasts a new family of bluebirds.  It’s hilarious when the little bird head pokes out of the cat’s mouth.  This great muse has inspired a note card and jewelry.

I must have been channeling Gary Larsen when I came up with the text for the back… “Kat Nip Inn – Free Seed! Cheep Rates!”.

The detail on the bottoms of the feet is sure to make you smile.

 For me, humor and art go hand in hand.  What inspires you?

For me, making note cards is a way to avoid Quickbooks and other things I don’t really want to do. It is creative, and serves as a pleasant diversion for me, while entertaining the masses as well.  What’s not to like?!! I have over 200 different note cards, one for every occasion and several for none-just fun. I feel it’s my way to send happy out to the universe. Get YOUR happy on and share the joy!

Teeny Tag

A dog tag is a bit of bling that actually has purpose. Not only do they look cool and make you smile, they could, in fact, get your lost dog home:)  All my tags are made of copper, sterling, and brass.  The base of the teeny tag is made of nickle silver… because the teeny tags are so small, they need to be strong for your mighty dog.

My large tags have words on the front and are reinforced around the split ring. The small tags have just an image. And the teeny tags have little dog names with an embellishment (a heart, a crown, a bone, a rose, etc.) on the front. All my dog tags have a phone number on the back and are approved by Benny and Wilson.

It’s back to school week so get your ”kids” some lab-tested, cat-scanned, hen-pecked, and led-to-water bling today!
