Hello all, I know it has been awhile, but it has been a good thing since I have been so busy doing what I love to do...Design!

It seems to be the season for babies! I can't even count how many people I know right now that are prego or just had babies. I hope there is nothing in my water, because I am not going to drink it any time soon...lol! I'm back!!

I'm back!! I know it's been forever, but that's been a good thing. It means that I am busy and that Stacey's Creations is doing great! I know I promised that I would share my school experience with you, so I will tell you a little about it. First, it was very hard being away from my family (two entire weeks!) but the girls barely noticed I was gone, and everyone was in good hands:-) Second, I was in Miami where the weather was absolutely beautiful (especially nice since I had only seen snow for weeks up until then!)

The school (The Event Decorating Academy) was absolutely wonderful and I learned so many things that I am now getting to put to good use. Most of the things we learned at the academy, I had already kind of dabbled in or knew how to do, but there were two categories that I loved and am looking forward to offering to the company. The first was learning about Balloon Decor. There are so many fun things you can do with balloons and they are not just for children. We learned how to use them for weddings, and other adult occasions. For more pics go to my site

My next favorite was Props and Theme Signage. Who new I was an artist? This was really fun to learn and to see how it can all come together with the right decor.

Blog Idenity Crisis!

So I have been doing some thinking about the direction I would like this blog to go in, and I think I want it to be more "event focused". Since I aspire to be an event decorator, I believe that I will now post about my journey and all things events. While I truly enjoy many different types of crafts and creativity, I feel that for now I need to stick to my niche and just focus on that. That's not to say that I won't post about anything else when I get the urge, but for the most part this will now be a blog about parties, entertaining, recipes, and whatever else floats my boat:-)

I am off this weekend for a couple weeks to begin working on my certification in event decorating and I couldn't be more excited. I'm not thrilled to leave my husband and children, but I am over the moon that I am beginning to start working on my dreams and goals. I will try to share with you my experiences at school while I am away, but if not, you will certainly hear all about it when I return. Wish me luck!!!!!

Happy 30th Birthday to Me!

Well today I turn the big 30! I have no ill feelings about it at all, in fact, I welcome it! It's a new decade to get my life in the right direction and also creates new motivation and drive to pursue my spiritual and career goals. I'm so thankful for having such a supportive husband, healthy and beautiful children, and wonderful family and friends, that I don't really need much else today. I thought I wanted a big party, but as time got closer, I realized that I have everything already:-)

With that being said, I am still an Event Decorator and LOVE a great party, so if I had to create my dream birthday bash, it might look a little like this!

I think I would start with a grand entrance like this and maybe add some pink tropical floating flower centerpieces (wow say that 5 times fast!) in the water as well.

My table settings would look something like this. I just love the bold color...the TV in the background...not so much.

But I LOVE the flowers going around the plates like this table setting by my hero Preston Bailey!

My buffet table may look something like this, only with food instead of just fruit.

I love candy buffets, so I would have a colorful attraction such as this.

I think I would show up on a pink carpet, getting out of a fab limo wearing this

Yes, everything would be bright and colorful and made just for me, but after the party is over, I would still be most thankful for all that God has already given me and for allowing me to see another birthday:-) Happy Birthday to ME!

Cupcake Bouquet

I thought I would share this little cupcake bouquet I made for my cousin's birthday this weekend. I used to make these all the time, but I find them hard to transport so I haven't made one in awhile.

I started with a terracotta pot, wrapping paper, a floral Styrofoam ball, flowers, and cupcakes.

I usually just wrap metallic foil paper around the pot and tape it down on the insides, but I wanted to use this birthday wrapping paper I had, so I decided to decoupage it on instead. So I got out my Mod Podge and attached the paper to the pot. Then I hot glued the Styrofoam ball on. While that was setting I prepared the cupcakes to look like flowers.
(Sorry, I don't have pics of this part....my camera died, and I also had two toddlers trying to steal all of the cupcakes!)

Now to assemble it, you just stick a toothpick into the Styrofoam (I find that a skewer broken in half works better for regular sized cupcakes, and toothpicks for mini cupcakes.) and attach the cupcake (it also works better if you use a toothpick to make a hole into the bottom of the cupcake first and then attach it.)

After you get all your cupcakes on, just fill in the holes with flowers, leaves, or you can use basket shred as well. You could also just spray paint the ball to what ever color you choose and let that show through.

There you have it...a fun and simple gift that your loved one is sure to enjoy!

How to set a formal table

I have an event coming up that requires a formal table setting, and I suddenly realized that I had no idea how to formally set a table! I mean I know how to make it look pretty, but I hadn't a clue about the rules and the proper way to do things......so I did a search and my best friend Google found out the answer for me.

My Hero!

Well folks, it's a winter wonderland over in these parts of the country and I have been trapped in the house for longer than I would have liked to been. (I did however, get to venture out to Walmart today and it was a complete zoo in there......complete madness I tell you!) So with all of this free time on my hands one would think that I might have posted something.....anything.....but....I didn't. Instead I enjoyed time with my family and took some much needed time to relax. I also did some new work on the main site, worked on some custom orders, and gathered some ideas for upcoming events.

I know I do a lot of misc crafts on here, but my true passion is really Event Decorating and that is the direction that I am slowly moving my company to. I just LOVE to watch ideas and plans come together to create lasting memories for life's major events. So what does any of this have to do with heroes? (I know...I ramble way too much, so I will get to the point.) I know that most heroes are people like the President, or superheros, religious leaders and so forth...but mine happens to be the great Preston Bailey.

I absolutely (heart) Preston Bailey! I dream of the day when my designs will be even close to his. I have read almost all of his books and I constantly look to his photos for inspiration, so I thought I would share a few with you.

Dinning Room Chair Reupholstering

Guess what I did this weekend??? I finally reupholstered my dinning room chairs....well two of them anyways. I ran out of fabric, so I will finish this week. They were a lot easier than I thought, and even a novice could knock this project out in no time.

First my chairs looked like this...not bad, but not exciting, and you can't see all of the muted stains that grace the current covering.

So to start your project, you first want to take the seat off of the base of the chair

Then lay your fabric out right side down and lay it align with the pattern that you want to show on the seat. Next, get out your staple gun and pull the fabric over the front end of the seat. Pull tight and put in a few staples to secure.

Make sure you don't cover the holes like I did the first time. It's a pain to take out all of those staples. Learn from my mistake!

So after I got all the staples out, I then cut the fabric down, which I should have done in the first place, and then re stapled.Next do the back of the seat, followed by the sides. Be careful when doing the sides and check to make sure that your corners are neat and clean. (sorry, I didn't take pics after I cut the fabric down...probably because I was too frustrated from having to take out all of the staples.) Then here is what your seat should look like after your finished.

After you are satisfied then simply screw your seat back in place and now you have an (almost) brand new chair.

My dinning room chair remodel cost me about $20.00 ($9.98 a yard and I will use two yards to complete four chairs). Your project could be even cheaper if you use old curtains, or an old table cloth, or just some fabric that you happen to find on clearance.

I'll show you the finished room later whenever I get around to it;-)

Afordable, Creative, Easy Wall Art

Remember those blank walls in my girls' play room? Well this weekend, I finally had time to make some fun art to fill up those spaces!

This is a really easy and affordable way to liven up any blank space, and there are so many variations that you can use to make it your own. This was the inspiration for my project. I can't remember where I saw this at, so if you know, let me know so I can link to them:-)

What you will need:

Styrofoam boards (Mine were 12x36x 1 inch thick, but you can use the thicker ones if you chose)
utility knife, or just a sharp knife
cement glue
scissors
pins
scrapbook paper
pictures or photos
coordinating ribbon (thick enough to cover the edges of your squares)
any extra accessories you want to use on your art

I began by cutting my Styrofoam boards into thirds. Three sheets of 12x12 scrapbook paper fits perfectly onto one board, so you can use this as your guide for cutting equal squares.

Use your utility knife to mark a straight line, and then cut your Styrofoam down the line.

After you have your squares all cut out, you will need to glue your scrapbook paper to the Styrofoam squares. I used Elmers cement glue because it doesn't make the paper wrinkle when its applied.

Next you become the artist and glue on your photos, mementos, jewels, buttons, or whatever you want to use for your masterpiece. I just had some pics off the internet printed out of the girls' favorite cartoon characters and used them along with some accessories I had around the house.

After you are satisfied with your layout and everything is secured, then pull out your coordinating ribbon. Take your ribbon and cut a piece that will overlap all the way around your square. Wrap it around and use a pin to hold one end in place. Then overlap the other end and secure it with two pins (I forgot to take a picture of the overlapping part so make sure you so this). I pinned mine at the bottom, so it wasn't as noticeable.

Now all you have to do it hang it. There are a variety of ways that you could do this, but I found this way to be the easiest and most cost effective. I simply cut a piece of ribbon and attached it to the back of the square with two pins on each end. Then I just used a thumbtack in the wall and hung the ribbon over it. You could use nails and picture hooks, or something fancier, but this is just a play room, and I didn't care that much.

And there you have it....your own work of art! Like I said before, you can do so many variations of this. You could use fabric, or 12x12 photos instead of scrapbook paper, or hang them all together like my inspiration pic above.
I have one more project to complete in this room and then I will show you the final results.

Decorating Dilemmas Party

Today I am participating in my first "Blog Party! Amanda@ Serenity Now has a great blog that I follow and she is throwing a Decorating Dilemmas Party. You can post about any room in your home that you might have a decorating dilemma about and fellow bloggers will give you advice about it!

So I think the room that I have put off the longest in my house is my half bath. It's a tiny little room in my basement that has loads of potential, but I just haven't quite figured out what to do with it yet. I tried to camouflage the hideous turquoise toilet and sink with these fun accessories, which did help a little but I'm over it now.

We plan to get a neutral colored toilet and sink in the near future, and I think I like the floral accessories, but besides that, the rest can go! The walls were once wallpapered and then painted over several times ( by a previous owner), so now any paint attempts just get absorbed in the mix and I am wayyyyyyyyy to lazy to try to take all of that down. I am NOT a fan of wallpaper, but in this case, I feel its the best solution and they do make some pretty patterns and textures these days. So I welcome the suggestions and maybe you all will inspire me to make this room into something purty!

Playroom Revamp

So I told you that I would post about my revamp of the girls' playroom, and then I realized that I didn't take any before pictures:-( So picture this room with a BUNCH of toys with no home or organization, as well as floral curtains that used to match the bedspread that once was on the bed that once was in this room, that once was the guest room..............did you get all that? So my mission was to organize and create a fun environment that the girls would never want to leave...or at least never want to leave when I need them to stay occupied;-) The blue carpet in this room is not as neutral as I would like it to be, but since new carpet was not in the budget, the next best thing was to work with it and create something that would make one forget about it. Sooooo with that in mind, I found these fabo curtains and matching rug at Walmart. I was so excited that the people around me were probably wondering why I had such a silly grin on my face staring at rugs and curtains. I could just picture the excitement on the girls face when they entered their new room.

So here are some pics with the newly added curtains and rug, as well as a new bookcase my hubby and I put up. Everything else was already there and just needed some organizing.

Now my next mission with this room is to do something with the blank walls, but I already have an idea up my sleeve for that which I will share with you later when I finish. I might be a little excited just thinking about it!

Over the Holidays

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I pray that you all had a great holiday season and that you are ready to begin a new year filled with endless possibilities and great things to come! I have personally set a few goals for myself, but I never set too many because then I get overwhelmed and don't follow through with any of them:-( So this year I am starting with the potty training that I should have done about 5 months ago. My girls are now 27 months old, but they have been ready for quite some time. I on the other hand have been dreading the process and keep putting it off, but this is the year of no excuses for me, so we are in potty training boot camp as we speak! My health resolution is to continue with my healthier eating habits and to continue my exercise routine consistently. I always strive for a closer relationship with God, but this year, for my spiritual resolution I want to really grow and listen for my purpose in life and for what he would have me to do with it. My career resolution is to work hard and believe that my career in Event Decorating will prosper and come to life this year. My goals are all achievable and I know that with work and faith they will all become a way of life sooner than later. So now that I have bored you with my resolutions, I will show you a few things I have worked on around the house over the holidays.

I have been in, "completely change my house around" mode for while now, so every time I find something new to do with a room, I get all giddy and overly excited about it.....the little things in life make me happy:-) The first room I did was my bedroom. It is ABSOLUTELY freezing in there, so I had been wanting some longer drapes to help with the draft that comes in through our windows, as well as to add some privacy. I found some great panels at my favorite thrift store for get this....$12.95 for all four panels!!! I told you that it doesn't take much to make me happy, so I put them up and just draped the old ones back over top for now until I get new rods. I just love them! It makes me want to put a chandelier up now and create a whole romantic room theme or something.

Here are the before curtains. I liked them, but like I said not much privacy and it was cold! There are two windows, but I didn't get the before of the other one.

Now I just need to get the proper rods and I'm all set! After putting up these curtains, I was inspired to add some crystal candle holders that were wedding gifts about 4 years ago, along with a beautiful vase (also a wedding gift) with a Stacey's Creations floral arrangement, and some votive candles. I already owned all these things, so this makeover cost me $12.95! Can't beat that, and even better, I now enjoy our bedroom and strive even harder to keep it clean and kid free:-)

After my bedroom makeover, I tackled the girls' playroom which I will post about later. I hope that you all have a great week and are inspired to do your own room redecorating!

Gift Wrapping Ideas

So I was looking for new ways to wrap Christmas gifts this year and I stumbled upon the blog Bugs and Fishes by Lupin. They have the cutest idea on there for taking traditional gift wrapping to something cute and original. Here is the link, if you want to visit all of their ideas.

Isnt that the cutest thing! Imagine the possibilities for this! You could create all kinds of colors and themes with this idea. I was so excited to try it out myself, so I downloaded the letter template (that they so graciously provided) on their site, and set out to create the cutest gift wrapping ever! Well, after cutting out one name, I realized how time consuming this was going to be, so I decided to reserve this project for another time. Instead I used glitter pens to apply the names directly on the wrapping paper and it came out just perfect. Sorry I don't have pics, as the gifts have already left my home, but it was very easy and you can get glitter pens at any caft store for very reasonable. So I hope this post inspired you to make your gift wrapping original this year, and if not.....who cares! It's Christmas and everyone is going to rip open those gifts and be excited no matter how they are wrapped. I pray blessings for each and every one this season and I will be back ready to begin a new and exciting year after the holday festivities. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Chinese Auction Gift Basket Ideas

So the church Christmas Party was successful and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I think the Chinese auction was the hit of the party and I told you that I would share my baskets with you...sooooo here they are. It wasn't a huge crowd, so I went with only four baskets. I had them set up with the place cards that I made in my last post and little gift boxes to hold the raffle tickets.

The first one was a McCormick spice basket filled with 20 spices and seasonings that were graciously provided by my friend who happens to work for them and gets amazing deals! The spices were arranged in a beautiful holiday basket that I found at Michaels.

The second was a movie night basket that I actually found already assembled at Walmart that consisted of candy and snacks in a big popcorn bucket. I just added a better bow and attached a gift card to a local movie theater.

The third one was a Stacey's Creation towel cake that consist of two bath towels, two hand towels, two washcloths and a set of candles.

The last prize was a Stacey's Creations holiday floral arrangement (pictured above at the auction) with a gift card to a local restaurant attached.

I wasn't able to display them exactly as I had hoped due to space, but everyone seemed please and eager to win their favorite basket. Have you ever done a Chinese auction and have basket ideas to share? I would love to hear about them!

Place Cards

This week I have been busy working on a Christmas party for my church. I decided that a Chinese auction might be fun, so I went for it. I have four great gift baskets assembled, which I will show and tell all about next week. Today, however, I wanted to show you an easy and affordable idea for place cards. I wanted the place cards to go in front of all the baskets to describe their contents. I didn't want to buy a kit or download any templates, so I decided to make them. Most of these materials you probably have laying around your own house. I only needed six place cards, so I didn't spend any money to make these, since I already had all the items. So here is how I did it.

You will need:
Card stock
Scrapbook paper
Scissors
Two sided tape, scrapbook adhesive, or glue
A computer and printer for your wording

First you will want to print out your wording in whatever font and size you wish and cut them out. I used the decorative scissors(aka pinket shears) to make my edges fun, but you can use whatever you like.

Next, Take a piece of card stock, fold it in half, then cut into two pieces down the folded line.

Next, take one of your card stock halves and adhere it with your glue or two sided tape on the blank side of your scrapbook paper (or the side that you don't want to use if it is two sided)

Cut out the scrapbook paper around the card stock

Now fold this in half, and attach your wording that you printed and cut out earlier with glue or two sided tape.

Tada! Now you have a beautiful, affordable place card that you can use for any event. If you want to make these fancier, you could attach jewels, buttons, glitter, sequins, or you could even use decorative wall paper instead of scrapbook paper. Hope this helps you create your perfect place card!

Baby Shower Success!

Well the baby shower went great and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I was very happy with how it all turned out and best of all the mother and father of the new little one loved it as well. As I told you before the theme was "Christmas in Pink". I showed you the invites on an earlier post, now I will show you the rest of the decorations.All the gifts were put under the Christmas tree. The lights were dimmed with only the spot lights on and jazz Christmas music playing in the background. It was a great ambiance.

Beautiful snowflakes adorned the ugly window treatments.
Mini diaper cakes served as table centerpieces with the favors beside them. The favors consisted of mixed Hershey Kisses with personalized labels on the bottoms.

A diaper wreath made a beautiful focal point for the buffet table.
The head table was decorated with a medium sized diaper cake along with a baby bouquet and and two sock corsages for mommy and daddy to be.

Dessert consisted of a cupcake tower and an 8inch round cake to match. The flavors were strawberry cheesecake, lemon, and the cake was pineapple.
Once the shower began, all the guest made scrapbook pages for the new baby and put them into this lovely scrapbook. Its a great keepsake for the honorees, but it was also a lot of fun for the guests too. There were small children in attendance, so this was great to keep them entertained as well.

Well, the shower is over and now I am working away this week on a Christmas party for my church . Pics and ideas will be coming soon for that event!

Baby shower games and gifts

Today I am finalizing the games for the baby shower. One game that I have decided on and will share with you is the "Candy Bar Game." There are many versions of this game, but the way I chose to play it is to list the clues and answers on a sheet of paper and give the guest 5mins to see who could get the most right. The person with the most right will win the prize (which I will show you how to make later). Here is the list of possible clues and answers. I chose to use only 10 of them, mostly because I had a hard time finding all of the coordinating candy, but you can use as many as you like. The left side is the clue, and the right side is the answer, which is also the name of the corresponding candy

Grandparents/or Epidual=Lifesavers
Boys' Names=Mike & Ike
Umbilical Cord=Twizzlers

The gift for this game will be all 10 of the candy bars that I used to play it with. I didn't want to just hand out the candy by itself, so I decided to make a candy bouquet. If you want to make one, here is how you do it.

Find a container, small basket, or a medium sized terracotta pot (which is what I will be using)

Next you will want to put a piece of floral foam into the container. Make sure it fits snug so that your bouquet doesn't fall out!

Next you will need some craft sticks and your candy. Make sure you get the wider craft sticks because they will offer more support for your candy.

Then hot glue your sticks onto the backs of your candy.

Next, insert your sticks and candy into the foam and play around with the arrangement until you are happy with it (make sure your glue is completely dry before you do this or your candy will fall off.....I added some ribbon and a bow to my container as I was waiting for the glue to dry).

Then you can add basket shred to help hide the foam if there is any showing. I added some Hersey Kisses on top of my shred as well. You could also add flowers or anything else creative you can think of.

If you like you can wrap it in cellophane and top it off with a bow. Now you have a beautiful gift that everyone will be dying to win that game for!

How to make a Christmas wreath

Today I was little tired of working on the baby shower, and wanted to do something different, so I decided to make Christmas wreaths for my front porch. I remember when I first started in DIY projects and crafts, and I had no idea of how to do anything, but I knew I wanted to learn. With that in mind, I decided to make this post a tutorial so that even those who have no clue where to begin can make the most beautiful wreath right along with me!

Ok, so fist I dug out some plain wreaths I got after Christmas last year at Michaels for $1.00. They are only about $3.00 regular price for one of this size, so don't fret if you have to go buy one. (Make sure you take your tag off, as I forgot to in this pic.)

Then you want to pull the branches out to make it look fuller....just like you would on an artificial Christmas tree.

Then I pulled out a bunch of holiday florals I had left over from a previous Christmas party, but you can use whatever type and colors you like.

Next you will need some floral wire which you can find in any craft store for about $3.00 (One package of floral wire goes a LONG way, so for the average project, one should be plenty!)

Use wire cutters or sharp scissors and cut off at least 12in of floral wire and secure your desired flower to your wreath.

Continue to do this until you achieve your desired look. You can add berries, bows, bulbs, or whatever floats your boat. Here's my finished product...I finished two before Sesame Street was even over! For those of you with no small children, that's about an hour:-)

Now to hang it, you can tie a pretty ribbon around the top and then attach it to a hook or a nail, or you can just use my favorite, the "Wreath Hanger". They cost about $2.00 and can be found in the floral section of any craft store.

BFF Baby Shower!

This Saturday is my BFF's baby shower that I am hosting! It's been a lot of work, but definitely will be worth it to see the look on her face. The theme is "Christmas in Pink" since she is having a sweet baby girl around the Christmas season. The colors are light pink, silver, and white. I think the colors just look spectacular together, especially with the settle Christmas theme. The glitter effect is just so girly and glam.

My cousin does invitations so she made the perfect invite for this type of event, then I just added the glittery ribbon around the edges for her scrapbook. You probably can't see it too well on the pic, but there is also iridescent glitter on the snowflakes and baby carriage. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! I wish you could see it in person!

Wow this my first blog! I have been wanting to give this a try forever but was a little chicken about doing it and fretting about what I would say. Then people told me to just be myself and write about the things going on in my life soooooooo here I am. Well I guess I should tell you a little bit about me so you know who I am. I am a Christian, a mother, a wife, a lover of crafts and decorating. I love to read....well not so much, but I wish I did and I do feel great after I complete a book. I think too much and have random thoughts out of the blue all the time. Through this blog I would love to share with you my journey through my craft attempts and designs.
