It's the most powerful word of words! And while I don't necessarily agree with recognizing it one day a year, I sure as hell agree with recognizing it...period! Sometimes, we fail to respect the many faces it has.

As promised, Stack Cache has come with the good stuff, just in time for your holiday happnins! BLAKREMINDAFINDA mixed by Jaekim serves a number of purposes. This time of year brings together loved one's who may not have seen each other since, well, this time last year. With that, brings the need to reminisce. Even though I personally think the name (as strange as it looks) speaks for itself, Blakremindafinda brings back that nostalgic feeling of yesterday, be it good or bad. At the same time, it had to be done the Stack Cache way. The result, a continuous mix of well-known artists from the 60's 70's & 80's, featuring some of their most "under-the-radar" moments. At the end of the day, this is my absolute favorite ish!

Incredible next-level artwork done by Rue501 from Heist 185! I warned you the collabs would keep coming, didn't I? Dude's on his A-game right now, so I figure i cop only the real in graph design. [for a limited time, all who need tracklistings for this one can hit me at the email contact above, and thy will be done.] Next week, we end the year off with BLAKREMINDAFINDA part 2. ONE LOVE!

Salutations, and what's really good?! Can you believe we're at the end of 2006? That's bugged to say the least; time waits for no man (nor should it). Slippin into the wintry side of things, the holiday season has Stack Cache on its ultimate hustle agenda. Apparently, even the holidaze can't stop the reign of greed and "gimme" in this business (depends on how you look at it).

Peep: The relentless and infamous Recording Industry Association of America is currently proceeding with a push to have copyright judges lower the royalty rate earned by songwriters and music publishers. Now, by all means, feel free to do your own research on this. But allow me to take time out to sum things up for ya. RIAA has a hardcore reputation for blaming piracy for the decline in music sales. For what it's worth, they do a great job in sticking up for the corporate "suits" in major record labels. So, according to the RIAA, when it comes to piracy, both the "little guys" (songwriters & publishers) and "suits" lose out. The association now points out that since the advent of new technologies/opportunities (i.e. ringtones), only the "suits" lose out, while the "little guy" benefits from a hike in mechanical royalties. So from the "little guy's" outlook, it seems as if the RIAA is basically saying if the "suits" can't get money, NO ONE CAN; henceforth, their push for a judicial decrease in royalty rates for songwriters & music publishers. Sounds like someone's operation is feeling a little less desired in these ever-changing days...

As we proceed [please note: if it was up to the association, we most likely wouldn't be able to bring the following to you and yours, so enjoy while you can...you know the routine], STACK CACHE Radio #5: Get-Right Season (winter edition) mixed by JAEKIM gets us ready for that winter chill ahead! Bringing the tempo down just a tad, #05 is the "snuggle-up" soundtrack. It features sickness from the Coughee Brothaz (what it is Devin and Rob!), Megan Rochell, and only Stack Cache can take you from Van Hunt collaborator Count Bass D (glad you're back!) to TEGO!

To all Stackcache Fam, I hope you all are enjoying this holiday weekend! Good to have a break from the hustle and bustle, for sure. As you can see, it's time for another Stack Cache Radio episode. In my recent postings, I made the ever-so important call to support the underground. But a few may ask, what exactly consist of the underground? You gotta know, there's no exact way to pinpoint what is underground. But it is essential for us to understand that it is utterly impossible to solely rely on your mainstream media sources for the "what's really good" in arts & entertainment. It's equally important for those who compose, administer, and present the arts to understand that there is a duty that goes with the job. We owe it to both those that came before and those that will come after to shine light on artistic progression, through our respective crafts.

Therefore, STACK CACHE Radio#04: Push the Envelope! mixed by Jaekim serves up a small sampling as to what is unfortunately today known as "underground", all of which are very worthy of our support. One of the beautiful traits of the underground is that it houses so many musical variations (as heard within today's Stack Cache mix): Osunlade's afro-tech monster "Sokinsikart", the original ESG's (from the Bronx) future rock/soul classic "Insane", the scrumptious "Last Call" from Brazilian Girls (produced by THE Ric Ocasek from The Cars), supervocalist Yukimi Nagano's latest project Little Dragon ("Test" one of the dopest tracks of 2006!), a harmonious little ditty from the triumphantly talented Sananda Maitreya (better known as Terence Trent D'Arby), and lots more! Seek it out, ye shall find, and enjoy more of where it came from. Only then will we see a change in what's happening around us (on this tip at least). One love to you and yours on this holiday!

Today's mix brings us to the conclusion of the "Heist185 presents" mix series. I can speak for Rue501 from Heist when I say that the making of this series was alot of fun. Collaboration-wise, we have a lot of tricks up our sleeves. So recognize that this is only the beginning.

"You Are Here"'s mission was to let the listeners mind roam, via an introspective sound experience. Well, to be honest with you, I personally just set out to uncover so many treasures that mainstream media failed to do. Recognize that there's a plethora of talented works and artists throughout our everyday surroundings. And just because one hasnt seek to find them, doesn't mean that they don't exist. To complain is to come plain. Stop relying on the okie-doke and support the underground!

Across the globe is how i do my thing-thing. Amongst 55 minutes of next ish you have: unreleased soul gems from A Tribe Called Quest (feat. Erykah Badu), St. Juste (who may be another shelved Sony Urban act at this point), Japan's electro punk/funk Mu outfit, and Canada's ground breaking Russian Futurists. When originally releasing this set (September '05) mad headz gave up props for my intros. I realized many weren't familiar with my "theoretical" turntablist days on college radio mixshows [more on that at a later time]. Those that were, felt i was fittingly revisiting my roots. I can tell you that i've always maintained a chameleon approach to my passion. Never get comfortable, and that's what elevates you to greater artistic heights.

Speaking of "artistic" heights, all Houston headz...do yourself a solid. Check out the 2006 Art Crawl Festival going on today 2pm-9pm. Located throughout the warehouse district, Art Crawl seeks to show off the diversity that lies within Houston visual art community downtown. Not your everyday event; highly recommended!

I'll be coming to you throughout the week from back East. Be on the lookout, another episode of Stack Cache Radio is right around the corner!

Out the gate, CONGRATULATIONS are in order for the Houston Dynamo, and their victory over the New England Revolution to become the 2006 Major League Soccer champions!!! Not bad for a franchise only 1 year deep in the game, huh.

Onto the musical front, I'd be doin the world an injustice if i hadn't mentioned how incredibly dope the new Z-Ro full length "I'm Still Livin'" is! The Mo City Don (representa) now has over 10 albums under his belt (not to mention about 3 dozen mixtapes). So if you're still not familiar, now's a better time than ever. His game, overall, steadily continues to elevate. Now if we could just get him to actually witness the release of 1 cd, without simultaneously being in prison...

An ironic tidbit for ya: Houston icon Scarface is being sued by the "jeweler to the stars," Jacob "the Jeweler" Arabo. Apparently being in a little squeeze himself, Arabo claims Face stiffed him out of $37,000 four years back. It's kinda sad when you look at it: on the other side of the world, we're pretty much robbed of our own natural resources via maiming and murder; meanwhile here in the states, these same robbed minerals are flipped and sold back to us...So that we can rob them from each other (or in this case be claimed as stolen property from the guy that robs regularly...Who just so happens to be caught in a little jammy jam at times present).

Put it all in perspective, and do the knowledge. Honest Heartfelt Hip Hop from the "H":

So in my recent travels, I've ran into quite a few heads that apparently check for the blog on the reg (good lookin out). A number of which, made it clear that the hint pointing to this week's Stack Cache Radio must've been too easy. One head noted that i was telling my age by refering to Mars Blackmon. It's whateva. With no delay, a Stack Cache Media EXCLUSIVE!

My man (50 Grand) Bobbito Garcia has to be THE face of new millenium entreprenuership! Me and money go back like recliners, and the man's hustle just dont stop. Recently coming off a highly successful season of hosting ESPN's "It's The Shoes," Bob wears a plethora of hats, making him an independent force like none other: columnist/author, poet, actor, b-ball afficionado, activist, label head honcho, amongst dozens of other titles.

In early October of this year, I had the pleasure of sharing decks once again with the cool water man, at the 2nd anniversary celebration for the only place to get truly laced in Houston, Premium Goods (congratulations Jennifer). The set?...BANANAS! If you can go from vintage hip hop to global goodies, with neo-soul album cuts in between, all in less than 30 minutes? You're good with me, B. So here's an early Christmas gift from Stack Cache to you and yours. STACK CACHE Radio#03 mixed by Bobbito Garcia live from Premium Goods Houston.

Do Remember, Bobbito's sneaker bible, Where'd You Get Those? has just been re-release as a paperback. So cop fast! Strong shoutout to my mellow Brooklyn Idris (it's been years, seriously!) for lacing the illed-out photos for the night.

The word got out late last week, that DJ Premier (Houston native, BK dwella) had finally released a new underground mixtape. Normally, this is the type of news that is met with quick frenzy, followed by quick bag-ups, and that's it. However, his latest effort has caused quite a stir as of late. Such a stir, that i cant just sit back and watch cyber-thugs come at a legend sidewayz. Aint goin down like that, at all!

When peepin the cover of "No Talent Required", one notices the digital cdj setup, complete with a box containing Rane's highly popular hard/software program Serato Scratch. All topped off with a sticker stamp proclaiming that the tape was made using "actual" records (a.k.a vinyl). Haters across the country went to work once getting a glimpse of the crazy tracklisting. A couple of notable mag/blogs made it a point to note that pretty much none of the tracks were actually available on wax.

I titled this joint "Things Done Changed" (R.I.P B.I.G) for a few reasons:
a) It's a sad day when cats feel like they can just second guess a man who help bring the dj back to the forefront in rap music.
b) This audio digital file stuff has gotten SO outta control, that so-called aficionados have seemed to forget about exclusive white-labels, test pressings, acetates, dubplates (and all other vinyl formats that a REAL DJ such as Premier would definitely have full access to at anytime)

Overall, I think it was a brilliant move for Premo (who actually does occasionally use the digital tools in question, in a live setting). For one, it re-opens the much needed conversation of vinyl vs. digital 0's and 1's. Plus, antics like this do wonders for your street cred. Bottom line, to someone such as Premier, and all of us who've been lugging ton-heavy crates and equipment on our backs for decades, somethin' like Serato or cdjs is well-deserved icing on the cake. We know which one came first. *Why have one, when the combination is unbeatable.

**On a sad, yet related note, on October 24th, 2006, Watts Music, the biggest independent vinyl distributor in North America, closed its doors after over 20 solid years of business. Another one bites the dust. Fight the good fight...**

For those who may have missed out, the 2nd installment of "Heist185 presents..." went up late last week. Check the archives at STACK CACHE: the blog for this one-of-a-kind mix series.

SUDDEN SHIFT: the tape

Continuing on with the "Heist 185 presents" series, "SUDDEN SHIFT mixed by Jaekim (Stack Cache)" proceeds with this next-level musical trip. This mixtape, originally unveiled July 2005, caught instant buzz in the streets of the H. It's genre-blending tracklisting ended up opening alot of doors for the now founders of Heist 185 and Stack Cache.

This one, I felt, was among the first to capture the essence of what Stack Cache is all about. All types of slept-on treasures from the likes of Kamaal The Abstract (b.k.a. Q-Tip), the now defunct Out Hud, Juggaknots, Metro Area, and Houston area supergroup Ethos, and a host of many others.

Stay tuned, another installment is coming your way soon!

Later this week, ya boy's got the goods, y'all dont want nuthin of it! A STACK CACHE Radio exclusive you won't want to miss out on (hint, hint: His TV series' show title pays homage to a famous "Mars Blackmon" quote from the late '80s).

It's officially official. Autumn is in the building! This is it y'all. I just wish it was like this year round, no question.

I know i left all of you with something heavy to think about, last go-round. So to lighten things up a bit, I'm back with googlymoogly treats! Don't get it twisted, ghosts and goblins just aint my bag (to each his own). But here's a little somethin' to pop off, what is aesthetically, the most wonderful time of the year, I believe.

STACK CACHE Radio #02: Get-Right Season mixed by JAEKIM packs heat! Featuring new joints from Roy Hargrove's RH Factor (waddup Renee!), Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Dilla (featuring the #1 ghostwriter of the moment Pharoahe Monch); unreleased bangers from Mary J Blige, Yummy; and exclusives such as De La Soul's "Grind Date" (Jaekim remix). A little heavy on the neo, this time around. So keep it pushin!

For all Houston headz (stand up!), do yourself a solid and peep Tha Fucking Transmissions special Halloween performance, this Tuesday night @ H-Town's illest art space Three Muse Gallery (2020 Commerce, unit G--Houston's warehouse district)

If your peepin STACK CACHE for the first time, stay tuned, there's more where this came from; do the knowledge on past posts for other essential joints.

Chill. I haven't exactly gone Dr. Killjoy on you all. This is just something to briefly think about. I call it how I see it:

August 27, 1987- Boogie Down Productions' DJ/co-founder Scott LaRock shot to death while breaking up a fight, involving a young D-Nice.

November 30, 1995- Live Squad member Fly Ty Stretch Killed in drive-by shooting, exactly one year after his former roommate Tupac Shakur's 1st shooting incident.

September 13, 1996- Multiplatinum artist/visionary 2Pac dies of cardiac arrest, resulting from drive-by shooting 6 days prior.

March 9, 1997- Junior Mafia founder Notorious B.I.G. shot multiple times at stop-light in Los Angeles; dies instantly.

February 15, 1999- Diggin In The Crates legend Big L shot and killed on the same street his brother was murdered shortly after.

March 28, 1999- Lost Boyz hypeman Freaky Tah fatally shot in the head while leaving Mr. Cheeks' birthday celebration.

October 30, 2002- Run DMC DJ/pioneer Jam Master Jay slain in recording studio while crafting material for upcoming artists.

November 26, 2003- New Orleans MC Soulja Slim, originally Magnolia Slim, shot dead in front of mother's house, on his way to a performance.

April 11, 2006- D-12 co-founder Proof killed in argument at an afterhours club.

May 1, 2006- Screwed Up Click's H.A.W.K. murdered while walking from car to visit friend.

You may ask yourself, "What's the connection?"

click here:Chris Rock may have said it best...

I dont stand alone when i think of what a shortage there is of solid, stellar full length lps out at the moment. and it's been like that for a while. and i'm not saying there's no good music out there. however it's just not arriving packaged with 12 strong joints in a row. enter the mixtape. corporate big boys make it seem like "the mixtape" is a brand new marketing/promotion concept stemming out of the last 10 years. WRONG! dont believe the hype. as a tike, i sat in on more than my share of grown-folk sessions where the background audio canvas was custom-pieced on 1/2 inch reel-to-reel TAPE. if crib didnt have this type of hi-fi, it just wasnt the place to be on those fish-fry friday nights.

Myself? first mixTAPES i recall coppin' include: "James Brown Mix", "52 Beats", & "Rooftop Live" by Kid Capri, "Beat Kingdom" by Ron G, a few hand-me-down Latin Quarter and Fever tapes(all the classic battles/routines), etc. From there, the era of blend tapes (Chill Will from the Eastside what up!), underground radio showtapes (Stretch Armstrong show, Martin Moore, Wake Up show, etc) and freestyle flow joints rolled through. all of these phases had one main thing in common: SKILLZ. as a so-called DJ you couldnt just press a button after the last song faded, record it, and call it a MIXTAPE.

Break down the 2 syllable joint MIXTAPE:
Mix- meaning you actually have to program what sounds go good with what; mixing/blending seamlessly from one track to the next; cuttin'/ scratchin' (not practicin'); and all that.
TAPE- the art of a mixtape was introduced on the CASSETTE (i miss 'em BADLY). we tend to use this term too loosely, but i aint trippin.

You heard. i aint trippin off the fact that people make money by labeling their presentations as TAPES. i consider it a tribute to the reason so many of us are able to make money doing what we love, today (before you burned, you dubbed). Shout out to my man DJ Oakliff from Carrington's (southside Houston); dude was one of the last cats i seen blend cassettes continuously, for a crowd of hundreds (killin em back to back).

Bottom line is i would love to see our generation become a little more selective of how we fed our own culture. a lot of us are cool with companies sellin us "mixtapes" that arent "mixed" (nor are they tapes, but i told u i wasnt trippin). so next time that hustler's runnin jibs on how his "mixtape" is so hot, ask 'em..."Is this really MIXED or is it a COMPILATION?"

To do my part in clearing up the never-ending loosetalk, i present to you "HEIST 185 presents FROM HERE TO THERE." mixed by myself Jaekim, FROM HERE TO THERE was originally released June 2005 in hard copy form; the 1st in a series of 3 collaborations last summer between yours truly and Rue501 (on art workz) from Heist 185/Emtae Clothing Label. It was the first time headz got a hold of Sa-Ra's quirky remix of Medeski Martin & Wood's "Midnight Birds", Dwele's version of "These Words" by Natasha Bedingfield, as well as gems such as Spacek's "Eve" (Mos Def mix), and Georgia's feature on Platinum Pied Pipers' "One Minute More." And as usual, you cant hold a brotha down. u should know by now, i could care less about genres. all over the place.

Keep it locked as i bless you with other installments in this series (sooner than later).

Yesterday, October 3, 2006, I became an uncle of a healthy tike, can u believe it?! Actually, he only weighed in at 6 lbs, 1 oz. So maybe he'll take up track and field or somethin'. Whatever the case, I'm on cloud nine to say the least, and would like to congratulate my little sister for bringing forth the most illmatic nephew ever!: Nhassor Grant (or as his grandpa calls him, "Nasty Nhas").

<in the teddy riley voice> "It AINT ova, it, it AINT ova!"
Holla cause ya boy's also gearing up for a goddaughter, due this weekend! What an exciting time this is. Baby Naysa's on her way, sun!

So in honor of the birth of my nephew, goddaughter, and the rest of da kidz Wu-Tang loves so dearly, I present to all my headz Stack Cache Radio Vol.1 mixed by Jaekim. It's my interpretation of what's really good with bringing new life unto the world. Not alot of vocals in this one. Good for meditating on the beauty of your surroundings (somebody stop me, this is getting too mushy-mushy). New joints from acts like Portishead, Shawn J Period, & Maurice Fulton. Old gems stemming from the likes of Tears for Fears, Mos Def, and much more. No raspy ****; sometimes you "need this in yo life, ta get yo mind right" (as told to me personally by Pimp "Sweet James Jones" C when refering to blacksploitation soundtracks earlier this summer)!

Since there's a lot of question marks in the air right now, i feel the need to be brief (note: as with more and more things these days, all following details are subject to change...@%^^%). Houston's premier sneaker spot, Premium Goods, is turning 2; and there's "big t'ings a gwan don." Due to the fact that the event is invite-only, I'm not exactly at liberty to disclose much about it.

So I'll leave it at this:
I, Jaekim, will be spinning alongside one of my bestus friends in the whole wide world...Bobbito "DJ Cucumber Slice" Garcia aka Kool Bob Love. If you were around NYC during the early APT/ Il Bogato/ Martinez Gallery dayz, then there's no need for me to explain how the 2 of us get down together (pause). Soul treats for everyone! That's Premium Goods 2nd Anniversary celebratory status, October 8th, in Houston's Rice Village section. Want more info? If you know somebody that knows somebody that knows everybody, get at 'em for an invite (mandatory). Otherwise, spare yourself the screw face from doin the Chuckii Booker (still one of the greatest songwriter/producer of all time), sun!

My mellow Rob "The Artist" Hodge is always up to somethin'. He, alongside Armando Castelan and Christian Navarette, has his latest artist reception on Saturday September 30th. "Venus Flytrap" (the reception) exposes artistic works dedicated to the temptations, both good and bad, brought forth by one of God's greatest creations...Woman.

Three Muse Gallery's da spot. Peep how the space used to be home to an on-the-low afterhours club (2020 Commerce St. in Houston's warehouse district). Get there early, as previous receptions have boasted attendance digits in the hundreds...early! For more info: myspace.com/threemusegallery

That's not all Hodge is up to. In addition to holdin down the krylon and brushes, dude's also the mic-controller. His band, ThaFuckingTransmissions, giggin' all over the place right now. Just finished bangin their new ish in the ride: hard-to-the-core. Next time to peep for yourself is Thursday September 28th at band favorite Proletariat (903 Richmond, near Montrose in Houston). You can search TFT out on myspace to keep up...

THE MIXTAPE YOU'LL NEVER HEAR:
Throughout my 13 years as a DJ,I've managed to stray away from various lame request for personalized mixtapes. Whenever approached with the proposition, I've simply said "nah" and kept steppin. History was made this past couple of weeks when I set out to create what would end up being probably the only personalized tape I'll ever do.

The person on the receiving end of this has no idea it exist, yet. You see, basically, this is a result of a desire to give someone something no one else could give them (in this case, for a birthday gift).

This Stack Cache/ Heist 185 collab forever shall remain in the hand of 1. Now it doesn't get more exclusive than that! Sound highlights include over 3 decades worth of diggin, where 15 artists share 1 song title. Concepts, you so called DJs...concepts! Visual highlights: just pay attention to the extreme cover detail, done by none other than Rue501 from Heist.

Get at em, that's all I'll say on it...

Critical Ish:
I've just posted the first link to the Stack Cache blog joint. The link belongs to the good people at Heist 185. Here in Houston, there seems to be a shortage of artists (from all walks) that possess vision. And I'm sure that shortage is not limited to the H. Heist 185 was the brainchild of a duo that originally included yours truly. In a nutshell, the premise was to provide those around us with next-level art, whether it be visual, audio, fashion, whatever! Due to time constraints, I stepped aside this, time last year. And what do you know, Heist has been forever thrivin' ever since!! (The story of my life:)

These days, the output from Heist seems to be more visual specific, and rightfully so. But don't be surprised if you see an exclusive Stack Cache/ Heist 185 collab pop up sooner than later. Throughout the '04-'05 season, limited volumes of mixtapes were handed to various contemporaries throughout the area, stemming from the minds that make up the 2 entities. Who knows, you might see a couple pop up here on the Stack Cache blog itself. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, there's talk circulating of a new clothing label from Heist 185, "EMTAE." Peep my links and click onto the Heist site for more details on that.

No-Brainer:
Finally, the date for Gnarls Barkley's Houston debut performance was announced earlier this week. It's a free show, but you have to RSVP in advanced. Some of you may ponder, "Gnarls Barkley...How lame!?" My response is, "Did the word FREE just completely miss you?!" Check www.scionevents.com for more info

Its been less than a week since the birth of this blog, and I'm already wanting to change the name to: "Critical Ish & No-Brainers." at the end of the day, isn't that all life is consistent of anyway? so since there isn't but so many hours in the day, let me commence to "droppin 'em."'

Critical: I realize I'm a day late with this stuff but, it's whatever. brotha is busy right now. check it, the end of 2001 was a dramatic time in nyc. we all know the state of events that occurred in september, so we don't have to state the obvious. but living in the city at that time meant having to deal with unemployment, whether you were the one that was unemployed or not. it was everywhere. actually 5 years later, and it still is everywhere. and if you have one of those golden-crisp tans that just wont go away, you've always had to deal with it on all levels. but this particular time saw the displacement of alot of the artistic community that made nyc the center of the universe. so, going into the beginning of '02, you began to see a lot of old heads that you may have not ran into since "the towers". when you're really picky about your art, you quickly take heed to like-minded individuals that are around you at any given time. there was a brotha that I used to bump into on the regular, but had not seen in a minute, by the name of Jamal. i never knew where dude was from I just considered him as one of the cats from around the way, L.E.S. I always enjoyed a good convo with this cat because he too was under the impression that contrary to popular belief, there's plenty of great gems ready to be unearthed on the city's dancefloors. it just takes the underground DJs to expose, and the headz to embrace. so we would run in to each other in-between playing neighborhood dives in the alphabet on the regular.

anyway, we're catching up, and Jamal hips me to the fact that a slew of our cronies broke out-west, to the L dot. i honestly hadn't a clue. I just remember not seeing the regulars around anymore. Jamal had begun an internship at Rawkus Records, shortly after all of the infamous side of the roster had bailed. so he hands me the promo 12-inch Pharoahe Monch's politically charged "Agent Orange." after blazing it early in my following sets, i get at jamal trying to find out more about who the production credits belong to. keep in mind, this is early 2002. he couldnt tell me much, only that it was a trio of fairly flashy cats from LA, and that THEY were the new H.N.I.C.s at Rawkus A&R. this trio was Sa-Ra Creative Partners. so thanks to all of these headz that used to reside in NY, we all started getting mini discs, cdrs, cassettes of what was really good on the left side. strong shout out to asya, who had always been THE west coast connect, as well. but we started doin the knowledge on demos and leaks on headz such as carlos mena, gavin trinidad, daedulus, dj take, etc. but personally, the entity i was always most impressed with throughout this new education was Georgia Anne Muldrow. she possessed something that could otherwise only be heard when needle droppin on those thrift store finds.

a minute went by, and those geniuses at stones throw finally scooped her up for a project. they released an ep's worth of compiled highlights from all of those dirty dubs entitled "Worthnothings." people wanna get things twisted when production comes into conversation. production is not a word synonomous with beatmaking. true production is creatively seeing a project through, making all things happen from beginning to end. that includes beatmaking, concept sketching, songwriting, vocal arrangement, instrumental session work, vocal and instrumental overdubbing, mixing, bookkeeping, and a host of other important things, all done within budget (money and time). Georgia does all of these things effortlessly, and beautifully. once again, i feel like all is right with the world when i'm able to witness the release of Muldrow's debut full length, "Olesi: Fragments of an Earth, " (out August 22nd on StonesThrow Records).

No-Brainer: The late great J-Dilla's "The Shining" is released on the same day. What more can i say?...

Before i bounce, I, Jaekim, will be spinning at the Buddha Lounge in Houston (2670 Sage Rd near Alabama) Thursday August 31st. we're loungin, so expect throwback jazz/soul breaks and rare groove, mixed in with this rebirth of the instrumental movement im feelin right now. when i get the flyer, it'll be posted here, aaight?

this is the first post, and at this moment, i have absolutely nothing to talk about. that's not so abnormal, just keeping with the spirit of internet biz. so i guess i should take this time out to say what up and proper salutations to my fam all over the world. you know who you are, or else you wouldn't be reading this. but to all my peeps in houston, nyc, boston, atlanta, west london, tokyo, the angels, and all spots in-between, i ask "what's good?!" this is my way of staying in touch with all fam, for now at least. what to expect from this nonsense? NONSENSE. nah just what ever i feel like blessin you with. you can look forward to featured podcast(s) from yours truly, calender spots on select events im apart of, and just over all chroniclization of my journey of beats-to-the-rhyme (production projects from start to finish). none of this will be publicized, strictly for my headz in-the-know. so if you're reading this at anytime, more chances than not, we've exchanged pounds more than once...

actually, this would be a prime time to address the issue of supporting art you love. as a matter of fact i skip the preachy stuff and get down to the nitty. the day for recording artists/performers being able to survive off record sales alone is ova. with file sharing, download biz, and all dat existing, sales from the recording(s) is just not as lucrative as it used to be. at the same time, you cant expect for artists to stop making records altogether either. bottom line is if you really dig that vocalist, instrumentalist, DJ, poet, actor/actress, etc, then you gotta try to make it out to the show when it comes through your spot. this is now the only true way to ensure that what you lovestick around for a minute.

with all that said, to my houston headz, we have a couple of crucial ones coming up. August 25th at the Deco Lounge is mr J'neiro Jarel. for those that dont already know, J'neiro actually stomped through these grounds back in the 90's. he and i ran in the same crew back in the '92-'94 era (Alief/Hiram Clarke/Mo City headz know the steez). I was just getting my hands dirty on the turntables and he had pretty much already mastered the mic and ensoniq eps by then. unfortunately many of the other cats ended up sidetracked and institutionalized. but he and i met back up in brooklyn in the fall of 2000. it was then that alot of seeds were really planted. new york was wildin at that point and we were in the middle of it all. fast forward to the present, he released a stellar lp entitled "three piece puzzle" in 2005, showcasing both his skillz on the mic and boards. and now he's touring in support of his upcoming instrumental release, "Beat Journey" on the Dr. Who Dat moniker on august 22nd, 2006. nuff said on this one. August 25th at Deco Lounge (Houston)

Before i jet, gotta mention a no-brainer. I'm all about Hov like the next man, but where did these claims of him being the "God Emcee" stem from. Come on, dude is one of the best at what he does, but...the true God Emcee is blessing
H-Town September 2nd. Microphone Fiend Rakim is making his rounds, and what a bill this is. He's bringing along the mixtape pioneer Kid Capri. And just added to the bill...left coast lyrical legend Ras Kass. Like i said above, no-brainer! September 2nd at Warehouse Live (Houston)

I'm out. Gotta mixtape to put finishing touches on. in due time, i'll sprinkle some of the original flava from it, on this joint here. but in the meantime, and in between time, you do your thing and i'll do mine!

<media:rating>adult</media:rating>
Jaekim (Stack Cache Media) presents StackCachePodcast
