Midwest Rock the Dress: Alyssa and Macon in Columbus, Indiana

Alyssa and Macon are from Florida and were married 3 years ago. They moved to Indianapolis for Macon to finish his law degree. Next week they are moving back to Florida and before they go, Alyssa wanted to do a “Rock the Dress” or “Trash the Dress” session.

Many ask me what a Rock the Dress/Trash the Dress session means and essentially it’s a way to get creative photos of the couple in their wedding dress. Often the wedding dress is not “trashed” rather the couple or just the bride put into a unique location. Also, often times on the wedding day the couple is pressed for time and may not get as many photos together as they’d like. A Rock the Dress session is perfect for that as well as to infuse more of the couples personality into their wedding photos together.

Red Lips Salon Spa Stylist, Leslie White, curled and braided Alyssa’s hair into the soft, romantic look Alyssa was going for. The light on Thursday evening was sublime as it could have been straight from my home state California. We wandered around Columbus capitalizing on all the great architecture as well as the green spaces in town.

Safe travels Alyssa and Macon to Florida– I greatly enjoyed chatting with you on the various things and hope you love the photos as much as I do!

Midwest Maternity Photography: Baby Liam coming soon!

I met Desiree last summer at Janice and Nick’s wedding. She contacted me early in 2012 to plan her maternity session as she has baby Liam on the way this summer. She and family, drove to Columbus, Indiana from Chicago as she wanted the soft, natural light, and outdoorsy feel that Brown County offers. What I learned during our session was Desiree and family hadn’t had photos done together in nearly 12 years! Knowing that, I was completely honored they had me capture their family/maternity session.

Coming soon: JR & Jenna’s Rowan

Jenna is a fellow Clemson Grad and works at Factory 12 loft, one of my favorite modern event spaces in Columbus, Indiana. She and her husband JR are expecting their first, Rowan in a few weeks. We started their session in Rowan’s adorable nursery, which Jenna creatively decorated and DIY’d full of Giraffe and animal details. We then headed out to Brown County to get some natural lit outdoor portraits (my favorite!). We barely missed the thunderstorms but Jenna and JR were troopers in the 85+ degree, humid as anything weather which resulted in their gorgeous maternity images you can see above.

Q&A with Bride to be Stacey

How did you two meet? Alex and I met about 6 yrs ago when he stared working at the same place as I do. (dating in 2009) He has moved on to a new career now.

The Ring? Alex found the stone….then we looked at several mounts…..I narrowed it down to a few..then he found the one and had the stone set…. I knew the ring was complete but had to wait…he made me wait about 2 months for it.

Proposal story? Alex proposed on July 4th this past year….It was spear of the moment….We were at his brothers that day for party and that evening we were going to watch the city’s fireworks(in a private place) and he encouraged all our family to join but no one wanted to go…..Little did they know what Alex was up to. He waited till the end…the finale to pull out the ring and ask.

Wedding plans? Rustic-chic wedding-while being fun and laid-back with games, handmade burlap banners, wooden wedding signs– all in a great indoor/outdoor space

Midwest Maternity Photographer: Jean’s Baby Bump Album

Jean is a lovely mom-to-be of baby Mason currently living in Columbus, Indiana. She wanted to capture her ~7ish month old baby bump before she heads to England to live and have her little peanut. We shot these images last week, I have the images edited in 2 days, and album layout and ordered within a week. I was beyond happy to get everything done for Jean in a super speed mode as her maternity images are to die for and should be enjoyed before sweet baby Mason arrives this summer.
