I can hardly believe we’re already halfway through the year! Seriously, how did that happen?

If you’re anything like me, you probably started this year with big plans and clear goals for big productivity. Maybe even a vision that felt exciting and doable.

And then… life happened.

Curveballs, stress, and enexpected stuff. The kind of things that quietly (or not so quietly) knock you off track and leave you wondering where the time (and your focus) went.

So if you’re feeling a little behind or scattered right now, you’re not alone. But here’s the good news: we’re stepping into a fresh new quarter.

And that means a reset. A real one.

That’s exactly why I keep coming back to the HB90 Bootcamp… and why I’m diving in again.

I’ve been using Sarra’s HB90 method for about six years now, and it’s been a lifeline during chaotic seasons. Not because it magically makes life easier, but because it gives me a way to keep moving forward even when things aren’t perfect.

And let’s be real… things are rarely perfect.

The HB90 system isn’t just about setting goals. It’s about actually following through on them in a way that fits your real life.

It helps you:

Get clear on what actually matters right now

Cut through the noise and distractions

Stay focused without burning out

Make consistent progress, even in messy seasons

Because it’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what actually moves the needle for you.

Not what everyone else says you “should” be doing.

Not what works for someone else’s business or personality.

But what aligns with your goals, your energy, and your life.

That’s what makes this system different. It’s flexible. It meets you where you are. And it helps you build momentum in a way that actually sticks.

Plus, Sarra is one of those people who genuinely cares about helping authors succeed. She shows up, shares openly, and pours so much value into the community.

So if you’ve been feeling stuck… overwhelmed… or just ready for a reset then this is your moment. A new quarter is the perfect time to realign, refocus, and move forward with intention.

So the real question is… what are you ready to change?

Let’s be real for a second. There are a lot of places to buy books these days.

Amazon. Apple. Kobo. Libraries. Subscriptions.

So when an author says, “Hey, you can also buy directly from me,” your first thought might be:

Is that harder?

Fair question. Short answer? Nope. In fact, it’s often better—for both of us.

Why Buying Directly From Authors Matters

When you buy an ebook from a retailer, independent authors typically earn anywhere from 35%–70% of the sale. (Traditional authors typically make much less.)

When you buy direct? That jumps dramatically.

More of your money goes straight to the person who actually wrote the story: the one staying up late plotting twists, falling in love with characters, and probably drinking too much coffee.

It’s one of the simplest ways to support indie authors without spending anything extra.

It makes a bigger difference than you might think.

What You Get as a Reader

This isn’t just about helping authors: you get perks too.

When you buy from my direct store, you often get:

Instant delivery (no waiting!)

Easy access across devices

The ability to download and keep your files

Sometimes bonus content, early releases, or special deals

You’re not locked into one ecosystem. You’re in control of your books.

How It Works (It’s Easier Than You Think)

I use Curios to power my direct store, and they’ve made this super simple!

Here’s how it works:

Option 1: Read in the Curios app

Download the app

Your books are automatically there, ready to read

Option 2: Send to your favorite eReader

Kindle? Yep.

Kobo? Uh-huh.

Other apps? Also yes.

You can download your ebook files and read them however you like.

No tech headaches. No complicated steps.

Why I Chose to Sell Direct

As an indie author, I’m not backed by a big publisher.

Everything (writing, editing, covers, marketing) it all comes out of my own pocket.

Selling direct helps me:

Keep more of each sale

Invest in better books (covers, editing, ads)

Keep writing the stories you love

It also gives me more freedom to offer deals, bundles, and special content I can’t always do on big retailers.

The Bottom Line

If you prefer buying through Amazon or other stores—totally okay. Seriously.

But if you ever want to:

Support indie authors more directly

Have more control over your ebooks

Get occasional extras and perks

Buying direct is a great option.

And I’d love to have you there.

>> Find my direct store here. <<
The post Why Buying Ebooks Directly From Authors Matters (and How You Can Do It Easily) first appeared on Stacy Claflin, Author.

Readers describe this book as “hard to put down,” “full of intrigue,” and the kind of story where “one is never enough.”

A Suspicious Death… Or Something More Sinister?

When Claire Brannon is found dead in what appears to be a suicide, her estranged sister Kenzi isn’t convinced.

Returning to the family’s crumbling mansion, Kenzi is forced to face:

the sister she never truly understood

the past she tried to leave behind

and a teenage niece who believes something isn’t right

Because the more they dig, the clearer it becomes:

Someone may have wanted Claire dead.

A Haunted House Mystery That Keeps You Guessing

The Brannon family home isn’t just a setting. It’s a presence.

Readers repeatedly point to the creepy, possibly haunted mansion as one of the most compelling parts of the story:

unexplained noises

unsettling atmosphere

secrets hidden within the walls

You’ll find yourself asking the same question as Kenzi and Ember:

Is the house haunted… or is something far more dangerous hiding inside it?

Why Readers Are Hooked on This Series

This isn’t just a one-and-done mystery.

Readers describe The Perfect Death as:

“An attention-keeper”

“Entertaining and fast-paced”

“A great story that keeps you guessing”

“A book you can finish in a few days (or even hours)”

And maybe most importantly: “One is never enough… they go soooo fast!”

Addictive Characters You’ll Want More Of

Kenzi – practical, driven, and refreshingly logical

Ember – a believable teen voice navigating grief and fear

Detective Graham Felton – steady, intriguing, and quietly compelling

The relationships (especially between Kenzi and Ember) add emotional depth that elevates this beyond a typical mystery.

Tropes That Make This a Must-Read

If you love books with these elements, this one should go straight to your list:

Psychological thriller with family secrets

Suspicious suicide / murder mystery

Haunted house or eerie mansion

Estranged family members forced together

Teen + adult dual POV

Small-town secrets and legacy families

Slow-burn investigation

Twisty, bingeable series starter

Emotional family drama with suspense

A Perfect “Binge-Read” Mystery Series Starter

Let’s be honest: some books are literary masterpieces. This isn’t trying to be that.

And readers actually love it more because of that.

This is what one reviewer perfectly described as:

“The perfect ‘junk food’ read—in the best possible way.”

Fast

engaging

easy to get lost in

impossible to stop at just one

If you want a story that pulls you in and doesn’t let go, this delivers.

Is It Predictable… Or Comfortably Satisfying?

A few readers noted they picked up on some twists early.

But here’s the important part: It doesn’t stop them from loving the book.

Because what keeps readers turning pages isn’t just the mystery:

the atmosphere

the characters

the unfolding family secrets

and the lingering questions that carry into the next book

Secrets That Don’t Stay Buried

At its core, The Perfect Death is about more than solving a mystery.

It’s about:

family loyalty vs truth

the weight of the past

and what happens when long-buried secrets finally come to light

And just when you think you have answers… the story leaves you with more questions you need answered.

Perfect For Readers Who Love:

Freida McFadden-style binge thrillers

Domestic suspense with emotional depth

Haunted house mysteries with a twist

Series that pull you from one book to the next

Ready to Start the Brannon House Mysteries?

If you’re in the mood for a fast, intriguing, and addictive psychological thriller, The Perfect Death is the perfect place to start.

Just be warned: You probably won’t stop at book one.

If you’re searching for a fast-paced kidnapping thriller with emotional depth, Girl in Trouble delivers exactly that… and then some.

This gripping novel introduces readers to Alex Mercer, a man haunted by loss… and about to face every parent’s worst nightmare.

A Kidnapping Thriller That Hits Hard

Alex Mercer has already lived through tragedy. Years ago, his sister vanished, leaving behind scars that never fully healed. Now, just as he begins to reconnect with his daughter, the unthinkable happens—she disappears.

What follows is a race against time, as Alex dives into a world of secrets, danger, and a chilling pattern of missing girls.

This isn’t just a thriller—it’s a story driven by guilt, redemption, and how far a parent will go to save their child.

Why Readers Love Girl in Trouble

Relentless pacing – the story wastes no time pulling you in

High emotional stakes – this isn’t just a case, it’s personal

Twists that keep you guessing

A flawed, determined hero you can’t help but root for

It’s the kind of book where you tell yourself “just one more chapter”… and suddenly it’s 2 a.m.

If you enjoy:

Kidnapping and missing persons thrillers

Psychological suspense with emotional depth

Books like Taken or intense crime series

Stories about fathers and daughters under extreme pressure

…then this book is going to hit your sweet spot.

Direct | Amazon | Other

A Thriller Series Worth Bingeing

Girl in Trouble is the first in the Alex Mercer series, meaning if you fall in love with the story (and you probably will), there’s a full lineup of connected thrillers waiting for you.

Each book builds on high-stakes danger, emotional tension, and unforgettable characters.

If you’re looking for a page-turning thriller that combines action with heart, this is one to add to your list.

Because sometimes the most dangerous enemies… are the ones who know exactly what you love most.

The story behind the Alex Mercer series is an interesting one because I didn’t set out to write it! It’s a spin-off from my Gone Trilogy, and Alex (who is the main character in the Alex Mercer series…shocker! ) was a side character who I didn’t plan to even be a very big part of that series. But as I wrote that book, he grew on me and become more of the story. By the time I was done with the trilogy, I knew I wanted to give Alex his own series!

When I first stepped into Alex Mercer’s world (not his sister’s), I had no idea I was about to create one of the most intense, emotionally charged thrill rides of my career.

Alex isn’t your typical hero. He’s messy. He doubts himself. He’s made choices that haunt him. But he also loves fiercely—so fiercely that when his daughter disappears, something inside him snaps awake. And watching him evolve from broken to unstoppable… that lit me up as a writer in a way I’ll never forget.

The hook that grabbed me (and never let go) was this chilling question: What would you do if the one good thing you’d ever done was suddenly taken from you?

From the moment a girl’s body is dumped in the opening scene, muttered over by a man determined to “get it right this time,” you know you’re stepping into darkness. And the second Ariana goes missing… everything accelerates. The clock, the stakes, the secrets, and especially the danger.

Writing this book felt like sprinting toward midnight with Alex at my side, piecing together decades-old cold cases, chasing clues that twist back on themselves, and barreling straight toward a killer who’s been perfecting his ritual for thirty years. And the wildest part? Alex, the guy everyone wrote off, becomes the one person who might stop the cycle.

That raw, flawed, desperate, and hopeful transformation is why I love this book so much. It’s why readers still message me about it years later. It’s why the Alex Mercer series grew into one of my biggest.

And if you haven’t stepped into it yet?

This is your moment.

Because Girl in Trouble isn’t just a thriller. It’s a breathless race against time. It’s a father’s redemption arc on fire. It’s a mystery threaded with heartbreak, suspense, and the relentless question: Can love outpace evil when the clock is running out?

If you’re ready for a story that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go… start here.
