HOMEMADE YOGURT- WHAT A HIT!!

2011-10-29T17:31:00.000-07:00

A couple of days ago, I stumbled across a blog suggesting we make our own yogurt. I scoffed- I have four kids! Who has time for home-made anything?? Feeling slightly curious, I perused the article. It couldn't really be this easy? A crock pot to make yogurt? What the heck, I'll try it. All the while thinking it would be gross, I began the process.

The next day we made our normal weekly milk run. We got 8 gallons, one of which was whole milk. Yes people, we go through 8 gallons a week here! I used half of the whole milk gallon and put it in the crock pot. The next day I was amazed. It was yogurt! Ok, Ok, it wasn't as simple as that, but it was really easy. Visit Simple Shortcuts by Stephanie Odea for the 3 easy steps. (Trust me people, if it wasn't easy I wouldn't be doing it.)

It's also a huge money saver. Check out the breakdown here:

	Trix	Milk
cost	$2.50	$3.84
ounces	24	128
cost/oz	$0.10	$0.03

I paid $3.84 for homemade yogurt. Buying the same amount of Trix would have cost me $12.80. This is a savings of 70%! (and it's all organic!) For the comparison to Yo Baby Click Here

I made some variations of my own to make it more

Trix like for my picky preteens.

Cherry/Banana-gently fold in pureed bananas and 1 tsp of cherry gelatin. Caleb thought it was a smoothy, and wanted a straw.

Peaches & Cream- pureed some frozen peaches left over from lunch one day and blended

Vanilla & Honey- 1/4 tsp of vanilla and honey to taste

Vanilla-1/4tsp of vanilla & powdered sugar (this was the biggest hit-go figure, the one with sugar in it!)

TOMORROW WE MAKE GOGURTS!!!

HEALTH TIP OF THE DAY: Plain yogurt mixed with honey and cinnamon has incredible benefits. Taken with an omega oil supplement it helps facilitate the oil to break down hydrogenated oils(bad guys), which enables them to be burned efficiently, lowering cholesterol. I have extremely high cholesterol, but have avoided meds because I take this everyday. I also have so much more energy when I start my day with this yogurt mixture.

Why Choose Local Printable Coupons?

2011-05-25T12:08:00.000-07:00

I was recently searching for local Delaware coupons, when I came across a blog for Delaware savers. They touted the advantages of subscribing to a coupon service that was for locals only. This peaked my interest of course, so I delved deeper. “Does this site have more advantages than mine?”, I wondered.

“Click here to access local printable coupons”,

so I click away. At which point I am directed to a national site for “local” coupons. Just another marketing gimmick. Well, maybe they have a few coupons for Delaware. Let’s check. Not a one!

This is what I have found time and again, and it refreshes my drive to continue building a genuine printable local coupon site for Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Coupons for the shops next door: The second Street Shops,Rehoboth Avenue Businesses, Front Street, Market Street-the places we locals shop. Continuing to support “our businesses” is imperative, and what better way to market them.

So it is with a renewed passion, that I will continue to connect local people with local shops via couponing. Be sure to sign up to receive updates on all the latest Deals on Delmarva!

It’s as Easy as Click,Print, $ave!
