The merger of these two companies will mean they will have the largets&nbsp;market capitalisation of the UK (30%). It is reported that Vodafone will look to either look to join with O2 or 3 network. O2 currently holds second place with 30%. As with all mergers i would be looking out for the company Vodafone decides to join with as news of this will mean an instant rise in share price. There is talk however that Vodafone could be cut out all together if O2 decides to merger with 3 UK. <br /> Balfour Beatty&nbsp;looks to be setting itself up for the recovery already securing a number of lucrative contracts. It&nbsp;announced on Friday&nbsp;that it has been appointed as preferred bidder for the GBP250 million street lighting contract by Coventry City Council. The 25-year concession will involve the design, installation and maintenance of 33,000 street lights and 6,000 signs and bollards, during the five-year capital investment period, and the ongoing maintenance of all existing and new equipment. Balfour Beatty will invest equity of approximately GBP6.3 million into the concession. It also announced that Gammon Construction Limited, the infrastructure contractor in Hong Kong, in which Balfour Beatty has a 50% shareholding, has been awarded a HKD2.4 billion (GBP195 million) contract for the widening of the Tolo and Fanling Highways in Hong Kong for the HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) Highways Department. It announced its interim results yesterday and the lead up to the announcement just goes to show that you need to be wary of hype surrounding shares and look at the bigger picture. It saw three differing recommendations this morning. Panmure Gordon has posted a buy and even moved its target from 172p to 180p. Now this seems optimistic and I’m sure this is based on investors getting in on the housing market when the recovery has been confirmed. The other two recommendations from Invstec and Shore Capital are ‘Hold’ and ‘Sell’ respectively. These recommendations come on the back of Barrett saying yesterday that total completions for the half year were 5,053 compared to 6,905 a year ago and revenues amounted to £872.4 million, down from £1.26 billion in 2008. It is true that the share price does tend to reflect future events and therefore despite the company posting a 27% increase in book orders and a rise in the prices of houses sold there is still stormy waters ahead for the housing market. Kate Barker, a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, and many other analysts have said that the rally we have seen over the past 12 months cannot continue. Evidence of this came the same day when the British Bankers’ Association published figures outlining that mortgage approvals fell to an eighth month low in January. This was partly due to the end of the stamp duty holiday. What is certain is that there is going to be a period of downturn this year as the government cuts back on public spending. This is going to mean cuts in employment and also increasing employment uncertainty. With these conditions in place the purchase of big ticket items such as new homes I feel is going to be put on the back burner.&nbsp;I would put Barret into the&nbsp;speculative buy basket. The CEO of Kumba iorn ore, one of Anglo's Iorn Ore subsidury in Africa, and the largest supplyer of ore in Africa said that the market is in China at the moment. He said that we would see some growth around the world but this would be minimal. </div><br /> <div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">European Union steel demand fell 35 percent in 2009, Tata Steel Europe Chief Executive Officer Kirby Adams said on Feb. 15. Steelmakers cut output last year after orders from automobile makers and construction companies collapsed amid the world’s worst global recession since World War II. He reiterates the recommendation by Kloppers the head of BHP when he said that Ore providers to China are set to benifit froma 50% increase in benchmark price this year.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Anglo's share price has been down today on the back of dissapointing results this morning. Its profits fell 53% last year to £1,575bn. This was due to the fall in metals prices and slow down in demand for platinum one of its larger subsidury sectors. The outlook does still look good for teh company this year and the CEO Cynthia Carroll was updeat about the medium term and long term prospects of the company saying that whilst the demand for commodities is going to be robust there is still opportunity to profit from fast developing emerging economies. </div><br /> <br /> My opinion here is that if you want to invest in commodities stick to the Big two on the FTSE 100. It did well in the last quarter managing to turn its parcel division around with the aid of the Royal Mail strikes late last year. The companies profit&nbsp;came in above expected target rising&nbsp; 53.4% to £166.5m. Not all great news it also announced that it would not pay out a final dividend to shareholders. If youre looking for a stock in the services sector then i dont think you can go past Rentokil. I see the share price is a little inflated after the results today and the rise in the FTSE this week.&nbsp;I'd wait until we get a bit of bad news on teh market to lower the price before getting in. This equated to a 92% increase from last year. So you're probably sitting there thinking how is this all possible with many banks on the brink of collaps last year. Well, half of this figure was achieved through the sell off of its BGI fund managment arm to Blackrock last year. Even when you&nbsp;take this figure away profits still look impressive, with a £4 billion increase compared to 2008. Now in a time when banks are being shunned by investors Barclays seems to have lifted spirits and to some extent confidence that the banking sector can be profitable.<br /> <br /> Now before you go out and rush into Barclays it is important to note that we are not yet through this economic crisis yet. The cut backs in public spending and job losses have not been felt yet. This coupled with the rising cost of living through inflation will mean the economy is going to have a few more hurdles before we can say it is out of the woods. Therefore as you will notice despite getting a number of buy recommendations there are a few brokers who are still neutral on Barclays and in my opinion rightly so. My feeling is that if you bought in prior to the announcment of results you've probably made your money. Now the price has moved about 20p above its simple moving avergae (SMA)&nbsp;(Jan-Feb)&nbsp;of around 280p. Now this&nbsp;is sometimes&nbsp;a signal of a price increase and a move onto a higher price resistance.&nbsp;At the same time i feel that bad economic news isn't going to sustain any price increase in fanancials. Now I was reading in that same article that 202 companies last year cut their dividends. Generally a good indicator of finanacial position is the amount a company is paying out to its investors in dividends. Again you need to be a little cautious as&nbsp;companies like to continue to pay dividends&nbsp;when they cant afford to. Vt group seems in a good position as a stand alone company at the moment and recently expressed interest in Mouchel Group. Now Buying VT could be a good move as It is most likely that the company will be bought out before the end of the year. The company that stood out today was Micro Focus International which producers software that helps main frame computers interface with the internet.&nbsp; The company recently put out a&nbsp;managment statement&nbsp;announcing that trading outlook remains in line with management expectations for fiscal 2010. Analysts were expecting the company to report earnings per share (EPS) of $0.56 on revenue of $427 million for fiscal 2010.&nbsp; The company was give a recommendation by Panmure Gordon today but it also features in the Blackrock UK Special Situations fund. This is a fund made up of technology and industrial stocks. Richard Plackett, who has been running the fund since the end of May 2004, likes industrial and technology shares and has over 70 to 75 percent of the portfolio weighted in small and mid cap stocks which are exposed to global growth.<br /> <br /> Plackett said businesses that are successful have the same things in common.<br /> <br /> <br /> "We like stocks which are benefitting from a recovery in the global economy as around 70 percent of the earnings of the UK stockmarket come from overseas," <br /> <br /> "We like management teams that combine the ability to sell their products and can control the ability to grow and have a strategic focus," he said. <br /> <br /> "We focus exclusively on companies that can generate cash and avoid early stage companies. Preliminary estimates of the reserve put it around 30Bcfe (Billion cubic feet equivalent of gas). I read this morning that Brewin Dolphin analyst Tracy Mackenzie, who has a buy for this stock, raised her target price to 462p from 458p on the news last Friday. The share did rise today to 303p (1%) but this i feel was in line with the market that put on 0.62%. The share seems to be struggling under the weight of market conditions at the moment and even with the announcement of the find the share price did not do anything amazing. Despite the lack of action I feel this company has potential to really begin to move once this find is established. From what i read they are saying it is going to take about six months before this site will be tied to existing infrastructure and come online. Once the drilling operation is finished at South Damas No.1 exploration site they are going to start drilling again at Tall Rak. Whilst there was much excitement about this discovery the Tall Rak drilling is expected to make this find look like a puddle with initial estimates of reserves being around 190 Bcfe. The Cheif Executive of the company is quoted as saying<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <em>"We are very pleased with the results from the South Damas No.1 well and are now looking forward to drilling the Tall Rak prospect which, in the success case, could be highly material to the Company...."</em> <br /> <br /> <br /> Now this sounds almost like why wait, let’s get in now. The downside to gas exploration is that it’s not always 100% accurate. The prospectors give estimates of 'chance of success' and for the Tall Rak reserve they are claiming that it has a likely 34% chance of success.<br /> <br /> Now in the short term I expect the share price to reach the analysts predictions. In the long term it could go even higher if this Tall Rak reserve materialises. After committing to reducing net debt by 10 billion pounds ($15.6 billion) in December 2008, Rio may announce net debt of about $18 billion when it reports full-year results on Thursday, the newspaper said. The reinstated dividend will probably not be as high as it was in 2008, the Telegraph said.&nbsp; This is really positive news. I imagine it will reinstate teh dividend in keeping with tradition but also in keeping up with rivals. Xstrata announced it would reinstate its dividend today despite also announcing&nbsp;a 41% fall in full year profit. It had been slowly growing as concerns began to emerge that the Greek economy&nbsp;is in serious&nbsp;brown human waste.&nbsp;&nbsp;From what i read it sounds like&nbsp;a superhuman or super nation effort is going to be needed to get out of this one. One article was saying the collapse of the Euro in Greece will make lehman brotheres losses look like a drop in the ocean.&nbsp;Now the inception of the&nbsp;Euro&nbsp;was based on great values and aspirations of the whole of Europe working&nbsp;together for a common good. But this seems to be coming apart at the seams as&nbsp;Greece, Portugal and Spain seem to be sinking. Solutions to the Greek crisis have been&nbsp;for Greece to bow out gracefully&nbsp;from the Euro but this would create more turmoil as its currency would continue to weaken against the euro and it would then have no chance of paying back its loans that are in Euros.<br /> <br /> I'ts been a rough week this week with the FTSE 100&nbsp;taking a battering of around 9% from its high (5538.07)&nbsp;on the 11th of Janruary. All you have to do is look at the slashing of broker recommendations to see that there is going to be&nbsp;no rays of hope&nbsp;for some time yet. No matter how well a company is performing ultimatly it is still tied to some degree to the market so a drop in the market will usually always be carried over into the share price.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;My recommendaiton would be to wait out for the time being to see what is going to happen over the next month or so.&nbsp; The trick will be timing the market and getting in when the market begins its turn around.&nbsp; There cold be some real bargains out there&nbsp;if you time the bottom as many of the&nbsp;blue chip companies are looking very attractive at the moment. &nbsp;Companies such as Rio, BHP, BP and BG group all look good. <br /> <br /> Now ive written before about BG group and this week they posted&nbsp;a trading update.&nbsp;This is a classic example of&nbsp;a company following a market trend. Despite outlining that they would expected a decade of growth between 6 to 8 percent, its share price fell on it's announcment that profits were down this quarter by 38%. I have a friend who works in the jewellry quarter here and he was telling me that diamonds would be a good investment over the next ten years.&nbsp;Now two ways to do this. Firstly, the most obvious you go out and buy&nbsp;diamonds from a reputable dealer. The second way in would be&nbsp;investing through a company that mines diamonds.&nbsp; This had me take a look at the largest diamond mining company on the FTSE which is Gem diamonds (GEMD). This coupled with the $120 or so million they have in reserve puts the company in a good position for future expansion.</li> </ul><br /> <div>&nbsp;</div><br /> <div>&nbsp;</div><br /> <div>&nbsp;</div>The misgivings I have are that despite the company on a solid footing it is still at the mercy of the market. When i had a look at the share price for GEMD early last week i felt the company was way over priced. The recent rise in price i see as the general rise you always get when a company is expected to post favourable results. The price this week looks a bit more attractive. Now I think there isnt a question of the fundementals of the company I feel the difficulty Id have if i was going to buy this stock would be when to get in. At the end of last month it was around 220- 230. It had recently been as high as 250p. Now id be watching the FTSE and getting in when its hit its low. I bought some cranswick shares this week as I'd read some great things about the company. However, as soon as id bought them the share price fell. The catch is to reel in this public&nbsp;spending there needs to be cuts and this inevertably means job cuts. I was reading that 21% of the population are employed in the public sector. So a&nbsp;large proportion of&nbsp;people not working, borrowing and spending will potentially slow growth even further. Nothing has been revealed in the way of policy as yet but everyone is holding their breath in anticipation of how things are going to play out after the next election.<br /> <br /> In regards to mining stocks much of the growth last year was due to the expansion of manufactuing in China. There is a real fear that China is stockpiling raw materials in order to create a market fall in the future. How true this rumour is I dont know but there has been a serious effort by China to put the breaks on expansion and borrowing. Some positive news however is the potential for countries to return to purchasing commodities as their stckpiles deplete after the recession.&nbsp; Companies like Xstrata and BHP are always likely to do well out of this.<br /> <br /> <br /> Now of late there has been a marked reduction in the number of broker recomendations. GS predicts a yrs end of $100.<br /> <br /> BP shares are trading on a December 2010 earnings forecast of 9.7 times, falling to 8.6 in 2010. Shell shares are trading on a current-year multiple of 8.8 falling to 7.8 in 2011 and yielding 5.7%. Because of future production growth – and a still-attractive dividend yield of 5.6pc, I would buy BP, not because I have held them for nearly 8years, but cause of the growth and also the lower movement in any dowturn. E.G. Lets say I have 1400 BP shares which were bought at around 450p back in 2003. These are becoming more popular amongst traders as they allow you to trade without having to pay stamp duty on your positions. They also offer an easy way to gain leverage on your trades. Now I’ve always been wary of any product that involves borrowing money on a position. As all the warnings say, should things go wrong your losses can be greater than your initial investment. Now I liken trading in this fashion to flying a plane. It requires much skill and training and a mistake can potential lead to you crashing and burning. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Now with this in mind I thought I would start with the pro and cons of using CFD’s<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <strong>Pro’s</strong><br /> <br /> No Stamp duty is payable (saving 0.5% compared to a traditional share purchase). <br /> <br /> You can trade on a wide range of markets and commodities<br /> <br /> You can limit &amp; manage your risk using a Stop Losses and Limit orders<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <strong>Con’s</strong><br /> <br /> The geared nature if margin trading markets means that both profits and losses can be magnified and unless you place a stop loss you could incur very large losses if your position moves against you. <br /> <br /> If you have a leveraged position you well need to pay interest on it every night you have it open. Therefore this is not suited to buy and hold investors. <br /> <br /> You don’t own the shares so you have no voting rights as an investor<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Ok so you’ve decided that this might be for you here are some things to consider.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> · Do your homework prior to using these products. In doing your homework I mean reading the fine print regarding the terms and conditions. These should be clearly laid out. Things you should pay particular attention to are the broker’s policy on margin calls and how stop losses are executed. Margin calls are notices given to you by the broker when your position needs more funds to keep it open. In other words the share price has fallen and your margin no longer covers the position. In the event that you do not add funds the broker will close your position leaving with you to pay the difference. <br /> <br /> · Pay careful attention to the fees as these have the potential to quickly erode profits. From a sample of brokers the average rate charged per trade of equities is £15. Now this means that to make a profit you need to first make £30. Generally when you trade on indexes like the FTSE 100 it is commission free.<br /> <br /> · As with all leveraged products you are in effect taking out a loan therefore if you have a position open over night you will be charged interest on the funds that you have borrowed. The average rate of interest is usually around 2-5%. Now it may be in your best interest to hold a position for a few days as selling and buying in again will incur dealing costs. However, buying and holding for a long time is often not viable. <br /> <br /> · The next step you should take is to pay careful attention to the brokers trading platform. For you as the pilot this is your controls. Most brokers offer a simulator so that you can master the controls before flying solo. My advice here is to use this simulator as much as possible prior to opening an account. Here you can master the process of placing trades using margin and also how to place stop losses on your positions.<br /> <br /> · When placing an order you need to be aware of two things. The first being how much exposure you are going to take on. The advice given by most tutorials is to start small. Secondly you need to know precisely where your entry and exit positions are going to be. Therefore you need to know how much each point is worth. Obviously the larger the position the more each point is worth. This is crucial in setting your stop loss at an acceptable level. This is best experienced through a simulator first to give you a feel of how quickly the market can turn.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Now as far as what stocks to buy and when to enter the market this is where the real skill is involved and if I was an expert at that I wouldn’t be sitting here writing about it. Now what I do know is that if you are looking to make quick money fast then you have the wrong mindset for this type of trading. This brings me to look at KAZ now the growth here is rediculous the sp was as low as 260p in jan 09..looking at the price now it seems to be breaking through into new territory. The volumes seem to be a good indicator of demand so there must be something on the horizon here. Now i was reading Kaz recently financed a £2.7 billion loan for development so there must be some confidence of growth there. Now i'd be watching growth in china as an indicator for copper prices. Despite there being a need for copper there also needs to be growth in manufactuing and conusmer demand. The sp prices now are reaching the upper limits of 2008 before the crash so id be interested to see if this is actual growth or people being greedy and being sucked into a bubble. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> I was reading of a famous investor named Nicolas Darvis who you probably have heard of. Well he claimed to follow a strategy of putting some money in when there was a break through in price to test the water then putting the rest in when the price was confirmed. Now this goes against the idea of getting in at a low price but he claimed that it was always better to buy when you knew the price was going higher. From it's last results it seems to be in a strong financial position. It posted $ 5.4 billion profit for the&nbsp;last&nbsp;year this was&nbsp;an increase of 64%. This transfered to the&nbsp;investor as a 74% increase in earnings per share last year. The company also announced a 20% increase in the final dividend. This&nbsp;I usually take to mean the company is confident they will repeat the performance next year.&nbsp;&nbsp;It's operating and cashflow&nbsp;financials also look healthy. The company&nbsp;holds&nbsp;£1 billion in the bank and has&nbsp;credit lines of $2.3 billion. More than enough for further development,&nbsp;exploration and aqusitions should the&nbsp;opportunity arise.&nbsp; The company also&nbsp;did well last year with the increasing&nbsp;strength of the US dollar. The financial director said in&nbsp;the last set of results&nbsp;that a 10% increase in the US dollar increased profits by £300 million.</span><br /> </div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /> </span><br /> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /> </span><br /> <div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The companies recent acquisition of QGC (coal seam gas exploration and production company in Queensland, Australia) last year puts it in a good position to take advantage of the increasing demand in liquid natural gas in the Asia Pacific region. A fuel that I see as taking off as countries and companies attempt to look for cleaner and more cost effective fuel sources. </span><br /> </div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /> </span><br /> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /> </span><br /> <span style="font-family: inherit;">The outlook for BG group looks set for&nbsp;the rest of this year&nbsp;with the company having locked 80% of its profit. For 2010 it has secured 60- 65% of its profits also. The company has contracts well into the future expecting to move from supplying 12.6 million tonnes p.a. this year to 20 million tonnes by the middle of the next decade. The other uncertainty is the fluctuation of natural gas prices. Analysts were concerned about the % the company left to margin. I don’t see the company coming out with any big surprises when it posts its next yearly results 5th Feb 2010. The share price as I’m writing this sits around 1093p. Now looking at this forecast of 1500p I think they figure this based on 2008-share price % increase. So if the average price of the shares was around 900p this year a 74% increase again would give you something around 1566p. I expect the dates to watch will be the lead up to the 5th Feb 2010 where there will be an obvious spike in the SP as the company posts positive results. For those not familiar with this term this is a polite way those in the finanacial world describe a dramatic drop in price. Usually along side these articles are countless other articles telling investors to beware of investing in bubbles. My feeling, and i may be wrong here, is that whilst there is still uncertainty in the financial world the price of gold will hold its value. <br /> </div><br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This is much the same law that i apply to the US dollar. In times of uncertainty people tend to favour it over the other currencies. This is probably why trends this year show it to outperform the market. On the other side of this when confidence does return the opposite happens and investors move to more volatile markets. If you look at the charts over the year you will notice that at the beginning of the year the US dollar hit an all time high against Sterling. This seems to correlate with the fall in commodities at the beginning of the year also (this is a simplified outlook as im sure other factors were at play here also, like global economy slowdown, but it is a big factor in itself). Now this got me reading about US dollar forecasts. The analysts who follow this seem to think that the US dollar has for the past year followed a cycle of lows every 2.5 months. was not much to get excited over today. It was expected that news of increases in Tax on high earners and on the banks would sway the market. I was drawn towards Lloyds today as an avenue for short term investing. Despite the whole Banking sector mirroring the FTSE LLoy moved in teh opposite direction and put on 1.71%. I've always had good luck with LLOy getting in when it is cheap and then out when the price rises. I sold out before the rights issue as it was either stay in and take up your rights or loose the value of your holding. I feel now is the time to buy back in. not having to participate in the Asset Protection Scheme&nbsp;is great.&nbsp;Also with all those investors who have taken up their rights at the moment&nbsp;there is hardly going to be a mass sell off.&nbsp;My only reservations are the demands the European competition comission&nbsp;has placed on the bank. You will remember the ECC has forced the bank to offload&nbsp;a large chunk of its assets. Now i se this could cause concern amongst investors&nbsp;and i see this&nbsp;as the reason people are still uneasy about LLoy.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Britvic still looks a good buy for me. It followed the FTSE down to 372.9p today. news that I've been following today has been that of a European steel body's attempt to block the BHP and RIO Tinto joint venture under a claim&nbsp;will restrict competition. They have gone to a European competition&nbsp;commision, but i expect nothing will come of this.&nbsp;The Australian Competition and consumer&nbsp;commission (ACCC) has&nbsp;started an informal investigation asking for public opinion. This is set to be finalised and published by feb 24th next year. Now its unlikely that this will come to anything also&nbsp;as the ACCC agreed in october last year to let BHP merge with RIO. I can understand why the steel companies are getting into a flap over this. it will mean massive savings for both RIO and BHP and it will make price negotiation very difficult in the future. Analysts i can see have got pound symbols in their eyes as they have set targets as high as £44 (£13.23 above todays price!)<br /> <br /> No other group is more worried than the chinese who every year enter negotiations over the price at which they will buy the iron ore. Analysts in China are already expecting an increase in iron ore prices next year and also the merging and takeover of many steel companies that simply cannot compete in the market. I was reading earlier this year prior to Rio locking in a deal for this year that the problem with these negotiations for the Chinese is that there is not one voice doing the bargaining with the Big suppliers like RIO and BHP therefore the steelworks are almost at the mercy of these large companies. Great news if youve just signed a deal with your competition&nbsp;the second largest iron ore provider that is going to save you $10&nbsp;billion a year. For investors this means that Rio and BHP are in great positions next year to capitalise on the next round of price negotiations.<br /> <br /> <br /> <strong>Future prediction</strong>:- im looking into GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) at the moment from a bit of advice someone gave me over the weekend that the profits from the mass roll out of a swine flue vacination havnt been fully flet yet. I had a quick look at the share price history and GKS seems to be a stable share to buy; that is if you get in at the right price. Im thinking if you could get in around 1260p- 1280p it could be an ok buy. As i said before im still looking into this swine flu profits rumour.<br /> <br /> Retailers seem to be getting a mention quite frequently. My thoughts on this are that christmas trading profits are going to be better than expected. Halstead looks promising in the coming days. A pattern you will see with most stocks is that as they lead up to a dividend recording date the price generally climbs. JHD closed at 540p today up 10p from Friday. Looking at the share price history (4/11/09)&nbsp;the share peaked at 565p 4 days prior to the ex dividend date and remained at 560p till three days before the ex date. So if this is anything to go by JHD could turn a quick profit if it meets its broker target. So lets say you bought £1000 worth of shares (ignoring&nbsp;dealing cost)&nbsp;at the current market price.<br /> <br /> so £1000 / 5.4 = 185.185 (you cant have .185 of a share so your total would be 185 shares)<br /> <br /> Lets say the share price leading up to the ex dividend date (23/12/09)&nbsp;did repeat history and go to at least&nbsp;565p again. You would have made<br /> <br /> 185 x 5.65= £1045<br /> <br /> so your account would be £45 up.....actually it would only be £25 at the most as £20 would go in broker fees buying and selling&nbsp;and some more would prob go&nbsp;in tax.&nbsp; So you would be left with £20. Hardly worth the effort really. Now if the stock hit the brokers recommendaed target of 640p you would net.<br /> <br /> 185 x 6.4 = £1184 (minus the brokarage fees and tax you could expect around £155 profit)<br /> <br /> Please note these are rough calculations and should not be taken as actual gains.&nbsp; Also note&nbsp;that I've used £1000 as an example to give you a base rate. Further It is important to remember that this is mere speculation. The price might not rise anywhere near the brokers recommendation and you would be left sitting with the shares. This is where Limit Orders are invaluable. A limit order lets you choose the price at which you want to sell the share. This is different to a market order where you pay what the market is offering to sell the shares at.&nbsp;So you would set your&nbsp;Limit order to 640p and wait till&nbsp;around the 15/12/09/ If the share peaks and your order is filled fine youve made your money. If it doesnt reach the limit you've then got the option of selling or&nbsp;collecting the dividend and waiting till next time around. Again this is pure speculation, the market may decide to head in the opposite direction and the share price may struggle to rise despite the lure of a dividend. Now I go back to my old rule of if I dont believe in the companies prospects&nbsp;then i dont invest in it. In the case of JHD they announced last week an increase of 50% in sales and an increase of 250% in profits. They also announced they were considering bringing forward the next dividend date so that it fitted into this financial year. So even if you held this share and did not do anything with it next year the dividends&nbsp;would give you a&nbsp;return of&nbsp;at least 5%.<br /> <br /> Now there are many companies listed below that are just like JHD. &nbsp;It&nbsp;is a matter of doing your homework before making any decisions. Homework being:- looking at the companies business&nbsp;profile; the companies accouncments; its expected&nbsp;divided over the coming year if this is available; Its share history and finally doing
