Although their function is the same but every model has a unique quality which makes it different from the other gas appliances. The gas ovens are classified on the basis of free standing with 60cm and 90cm. Also the burners range from two to five for the gas ovens.

A stove is a cooker which uses natural gas and other flammable gas as fuel. In earlier times the gas stoves were usually big and occupied more space. Now a days these stoves have been integrated with ovens and are more slim occupying less space. Within the category of stove there is a variety. Vent less stoves are now available along with vent free natural gas stoves. These can be used as kitchen appliances which are environment friendly. British Consumer Research magazine showed that using a wireless headset that is the type issued with all cell phones can attract more than 3.5 times more radiation directly to the inside of the brain. This research magazine compares these figures to 500 minutes of mobile phone use per month. With this type of cell phone use, which is on most cell phone plans the bare minimum used each month, people are increasing the chances of getting an acoustic neuroma by fifty percent. This medical affliction is a tumor of the inner eardrum, which leads to the brain. As more cell phone minutes are used, the chances for tumor growth increase.

People can protect themselves from exposure to electromagnetic fields during cell phone use by equipping their cell phones with an airtube headset. This hearing device is equipped with a special stethoscope styled blue tubing, which conducts sound waves instead of electrical waves. This hearing device will protect users with up to a 98 percent reduction in the amount of electromagnetic fields you are exposed to each day that is generated by repeated cell phone use. The long blue tubing used on the airtube headset also allows users the chance to move the cell phone away from their head and body while they use it. The airtube headset will allow users to place it on the car seat beside them while leaving their hands free to drive.

The airtube headset is a good investment on the future health of all family members. The survey revealed the “ideal kitchen” described as open, warm, organized, light, happy, gourmet, homey and comfortable. “Cabinetry Manufacturers have responded to these trends by providing many new innovations including built-in storage solutions which aid in organization.” says Roth. “In addition, many of the new cabinetry offerings feature hand-rubbed glazes and distinctive character finishes which evoke a warm, homey, comfortable tone. Gourmet, professional style appliances such as double wall ovens and cook tops with features such as griddles and grills tend to be popular according to the survey. In addition, stainless steel appliances tend to be the most popular. “However, we have noticed an increase in the use of cabinetry panels to cover appliances fronts such as dishwashers and built-in refrigerators, because clients don’t want that much stainless steel- the panels create a warmer look.”

Due to their busy lifestyle, a majority of the people questioned say they don’t have time to cook. Only 30 percent make breakfast daily, and only 60% prepare dinner five or more times a week – and they rarely do so from scratch. So, it’s no surprise that built-in microwaves have become an essential appliance. However, double ovens are also popular- especially for holidays and entertaining. Locally, warming drawers, appliances designed to keep foods warm, have become a noteworthy component in the overall design.

It was interesting to discover that 30% of those surveyed said they would have spent more if they had to do it all over again and only 7% felt they spent too much. Of those who would do it all over again, upgrading the quality or features of their cabinetry and enlarging the actual size of the kitchen were the main responses for additional spending.

The results of the survey show that the kitchen is evolving and becoming more of the family hub which also doubles as the entertainment center on occasion. The need to create an efficient and comfortable, welcoming space for today’s busy families remains the challenge for kitchen designers. “That’s why it’s so important to make sure you’re working with a designer who understands the relationship between the latest trends and how they interconnect with your lifestyle and priorities to create your new kitchen. As its name suggests, a conveyor oven permits the operator to place uncooked foods on a moving surface (the conveyor belt), program the appliance to move the foods through the heated oven cavity at a particular speed, and also the foods emerges ready to serve. Conveyor ovens could be used to cook everything from meats and sandwiches to pastries and breads. Their advantage is item uniformity. At this writing, Burger King is testing a conveyor broiler program that promises 25 to 50 percent much less power use than broiling foods conventionally. Impinger/conveyor ovens are regular equipment in numerous busy food service facilities. One meaning from the word “impingement” is “to strike sharply,” and that’s the basic premise of the air impingement process in cooking: to blast high-velocity, heated air to the oven cavity.

The air is aimed to be concentrated on food that travels horizontally on a moving conveyor belt created of stainless steel or wire mesh. The belt could be adjusted to move at various speeds for various lengths of cooking time. The air moves with sufficient force to displace the organic layer of colder air that directly surrounds the piece of foods being cooked, resulting in a shorter cooking time than traditional ovens. Because impinger/conveyor ovens are automatic, high quality output is consistent with minimal staff supervision, and very little training is required to run the ovens. The hot-air jets are located above and below the conveyor. Some ovens even have separate controls for different zones within the oven, permitting the air temperature and pressure to become set independently.

This so-called zoned cooking is another function from the most technically sophisticated ovens. The air is forced through finger panels, which appear almost like screens, laced with little holes. Different types of panels are used to make various types of foods, but the basic premise is that items that cook quickly (e.g., a pizza) need panels with fewer holes to restrict airflow, while thicker items requiring longer cooking time (for example lasagna) need a lot more holes in the panels to permit a lot more hot air to hit them. Depending on the kind of foods, it can be placed in pans about the conveyor, from thin aluminum for fish or frozen french fries, to thicker stainless steel for pork chops. Porcelain cookware is also appropriate. If you’ll be baking protein products-burgers, sausage, chicken, and also the like-look for ovens with built-in grease and smoke controls.

There are four various heat sources for impinger/conveyor ovens: Infrared and quartz models are electrical whilst natural-convection and forced-convection models may be gas powered or electric. No matter what the heat source, most models need a small electric motor to move the conveyor belt. The gas-fired ovens operate from 39,000 to 180,000 Btus; most are in the 70,000- to 75,000-Btu range. The electric versions need 10 to 27 kilowatts per hour and three-phase power. All of them need exhaust canopies. Temperatures in impinger/conveyor ovens variety from 300 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, and the conveyor speeds are variable. The conveyor belt is generally about seven feet long, even though only about three feet of it’s located inside the baking chamber.

There are no doors on either side from the oven, but there’s usually a small viewing door close to the middle so you are able to examine the progress from the cooking line or location items halfway down the belt if they do not require the full conveyor length to make. The most enthusiastic users of this oven are carry-out pizza restaurants, due to the speed and ease with which pizza can be cooked, but their manufacturers say conveyor ovens are versatile enough to become utilized a hundred various methods. Impinger/conveyor ovens can be double stacked and/or positioned on stands with casters. Options consist of twin belts, which run side by side at various speeds to make different foods simultaneously.

The electronics revolution shows no signs of slowing down. When I was a youngster we had dial telephones, AM radio, and black & white TV with a tall antenna on the roof. We did not have microwave ovens, cell phones, computers, FM radio, or GPS systems and there were no satellites. Well hang onto your hats, because the revolution has just begun…

X-ray vision is already here… sort of.

Knowing that radio waves can pass through solid materials, in 2006, engineers at Cambridge Consultants in the UK announced they had built a device they called the Prism 200 which can detect people through a brick wall. The briefcase-sized system works by transmitting pulses of ultrawide-band radar and listening for returning echoes.

According to the company, these pulses can pass through building walls over 16 inches thick, and detect human beings behind those walls over a range of up to 50 feet. The device can only detect people when they are moving.

Biebl’s team at the Technical University of Munich in Germany has built a device that can pick up tiny motions like breathing, or even a beating heart, through a closed door. His device uses Doppler radar to sense small movements caused by the beating of a heart or the movement of the lungs as one breathes.

It’s not a big leap to envision a system worn on the head like night vision goggles. Think of how valuable that might be in hostage situations, fire fighting, and urban warfare.

Invisibility, not just for Star Trek and Harry Potter

In 2006, a cloaking device was which worked only for microwaves, was unveiled. Since then there have been a number of attempts to make invisibility cloaks.

Scientists have developed “metamaterials”, made with electronic components that interact with light and send it in the desired direction. The idea is to steer the light around the object. If the light goes around it then you won’t see it. So far it only works with specific bands of the electromagnetic spectrum, the goal being to create something that works with a broad band of frequencies. The components however, must be smaller than the wavelength of the light they are steering, making them very small.

Recently, a group at the University of California, Berkeley, constructed a material that was able to bend visible light backwards for the first time, and Ulf Leonhardt at the University of St Andrews, UK, has demonstrated how metamaterials could work over a range of frequencies.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in China is claiming that it has worked out how to cloak objects at a distance. They suggest using “complementary materials” which have optical properties that cancel each other out making it look as if neither material is there.

They have a long way to go, but don’t be surprised if someday you don’t see something that is right there in front of you.

Unique new sources of energy

All those gadgets…your laptop, cell phone, ipod, and all those other gadgets use electricity. Batteries run down and then what? How about running those devices with power from your clothing?

In 2008, Zhong Lin Wang at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta wove a fabric made from zinc-oxide nanowires grown on strands of Kevlar. Each time the material is bent or squeezed, it generates a tiny current. Wang and his team found they could harvest it by coating each fiber with a film of metal. Just plug your cell phone into your pants and start walking.

US soldiers in Iraq are using a device that could become a universal interpreter. SRI International in Menlo Park, California, has developed the system, IraqComm, used by the soldiers, packing a laptop with speech recognition and language translation software.

When someone speaks into the microphone in Arabic, the software turns the phrases into written Arabic, and then translates it into English. When the person finishes talking, the computer speaks the translation.

IraqComm’s software, and other programs like it, learn to translate by studying conversations. The software searches for statistical connections between a series of Arabic statements and English translations. Given enough examples, the software can learn grammar too. A similar system running on a hand-held PDA was developed at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

These programs cannot deal with free-flowing language yet. The IraqComm works well because it focuses on around 50,000 words soldiers need. The broader the subject matter, the harder it becomes for the software to distinguish the alternate meanings required in different contexts. “We’ll get there,” says SRI’s Kristin Precoda.

It probably isn’t unrealistic to assume that in a few years tourists visiting foreign lands will carry with them portable speak-into devices.

Microwave ovens have been around for decades and can be found in most kitchens and office staff rooms. Most people know that microwave ovens are not the best for you to stand around, but how safe are they making the food you eat? There have been several studies around the globe that have shown how food molecules have changed during microwave oven use and how food has been turned into a deadly combination of carcinogens.

With these mini ovens stalked up at appliance stores and being included in new home builders kitchen appliance packages, it makes it appear that microwave ovens are safe and a staple in every kitchen. And while they are convenient to use for re-heating food and for preparing food a bit faster, they are not completely safe. Many people either do not know about the dangers or they feel that like everything else in this world…it’s just another thing that is bad for us.

Unfortunately the dangers of microwave ovens are something that should become clearer to the general public. And while studies emerge from time to time on the news, people hear them, they even think about them for a while, but nobody stops using them. Perhaps stronger warnings should be placed on microwave ovens when they are being sold, or perhaps they could even be banned to be really safe.

It is common to protect food when you’re heating it up in the microwave oven. In fact in the manual it suggests that food be covered to help keep in the heat and to protect your microwave from being coating in food spill. For decades most people have turned to plastic wrap for this reason. And not only do people put plastic wrap over their re-heated dishes, frozen dinners often come with this wrap already coating the food. A study was done and showed that the plastic actually emits chemicals into the food while it is being microwave…the chemicals release Diethylhexy adipate, which is a known carcinogen, and it also releases X enoestrogens, which has been known to cause breast cancer in women and low sperm counts in men.

Microwaving food has also been linked to changing the foods compounds. It can deplete the nutrition in food, and it can make food age faster than if cooked through a regular oven. When people use these ovens to prepare meat, it has shown that Nirosodiethanolamine has been found in it which is also a carcinogen. When re-heating milk or cereal, cancer causing molecules were found in the foods. Heating frozen fruit up can alter the breakdown of glucoside.

People have also been studied to see what affects have directly influenced their bodies after consuming microwave foods. Many people actually felt different and more run down after eating the foods warmed up by a microwave, but studies showed a change in haemoglobin, white blood cells and stomach, intestinal and lymphatic areas were altered as well.

It is a shame to think of how many babies have had their milks heated up in a microwave. Most parents do everything they can to protect their children and it`s sad to think that without proper knowledge, they were hurting their kids.

There are things you can do to protect yourself. The first is to try not to use your microwave when you can. Use your oven for re-heating foods, don`t buy frozen dinners, and use your oven to cook foods even if it takes longer to do.

Another nice thing is being able to bake more than one dish at a time and not having to worry about the flavors blending. Baking fish and veggies at the same time, no problem. These types of ovens are great for roasting meat, because of the low temperature and the circulation of air, it allows the meat to cook evenly very quickly and it keeps its moisture.

Saving money and energy is a major plus with convection ovens, because they heat up so fast and cook faster, you don’t use as much time and energy which saves money. Due to the low temperature and less cooking time, foods do not dry out, they keep their natural juices which improves the flavor and tastes of foods, no more overcooked vegetables.

Learning how to use this type of oven is very easy, instructions are usually provided. They do not use the same temperatures as radiant ovens so when following a recipe, the temperature suggested will be different. Convection ovens are not only better for the environment, they make the quality of food better and they are much more convenient, they are better all around.

Although it’s called a microwave oven, this appliance does not generate any heat – instead it develops a micro wave at 2400 MHz. The vibrating movement of the food molecules creates friction heat and this heat cooks the food.

Before repairing this appliance, first check for visible defects like burn (black) marks on the power lead, at the wall plug and inside the cabin of the microwave. To get to the working parts of microwave oven you have to remove the wrapper by unscrewing the screws on the back of the cover and some models has one or two screws at the bottom of the cover.

Lift the back end and pull the lid backwards out of casing. Microwave ovens consists only of a few working parts that normally goes on the blink. They are magnetron, diode and capacitor, transformer, control panel, interlock switches and power-in board

If the microwave is just dead it means that the fuse has blown and it needs to be replaced. Check where AC (alternating current) cord is coming into the microwave oven from the wall plug that is your AC board and on it there is always a fuse present. Setting your tester on ohms you should get a continuity reading across the fuse ends, if not replace fuse. If the microwave blows the fuse again go back to interlock switches. Check that the door latches is pressing the switches down and catching when it closed. Sometimes the door latches needs cleaning and lubricant to work properly again. If there is power at your control board the next thing to check is the transformer.

Check if power is going into the transformer(inverter) if no current is present go back to the interlock switches or control board. If power is going down to your transformer, then the problem could at the high voltage side. But first test the high voltage fuse (some microwaves don’t have it) between the transformer and HV(High Voltage) capacitor. If this fuse is blown you need to replace the HV fuse, capacitor and diott.. First take a ohm reading between the magnetron two terminals there should be a resistance of less than 1 ohm and between each terminal and body it should give a infinity reading. If any different replace magnetron.

A magnetron requires between 4000+ volts to work. (To get to this negative DC voltage, AC current moves threw the transformer (inverter), capacitor and diott into the magnetron. You cannot measure the output of the transformer with a normal multimeter. Using an amperage clamp around one of the leads from the transformer and it’s using 1amp or more. Then the inverter is working correctly. And you should look at replacing the capacitor and diott. If it still doesn’t work replace the magnetron.
