Embossed Butterflies

A CASE off the net - Many thanks to the original artist Amy Risary. I loved the simplicity of the butterflies and the cool use of DSP. I've used the Paisley Petals DSP here:

AND I like how we've used a few of the butterflies from the Bigz Butterfly Die that I don't normally use. It comes with four, and I have tended to just use the one, so this was great.

A little white embossing on them gives them just that bit more interest and it's quick and easy to do.

This makes a nice Mother's Day card or a sympathy card or a birthday card - an easy design that's quick to adjust for the occasion.

Now, I'm off to do some work for convention! Just two weeks and a bit away before we leave!

A Case of a Mother's Day or Beautiful Card

I saw this project of Debbie Lamb's up on Facebook and just had to make one! Such a clean and elegant design - using the new dies that are so fantastic!

This one really isn't that hard to make once you've got all the pieces out. It's a fair bit of die cutting and embossing, but such a lovely effect.

The flowers are from the Mini Catalogue Set, Bordering on Romance, and easily coloured in with an aqua pen and the ink pads.

So this is one that can be used for a special person's birthday or for Mother's Day. I put the Mother's Day greeting inside as it's just quite small. I will have to find someone to give this to on Sunday! (My own mother lives in the USA so I posted hers out a week ago).

Waterfall Mini Album with French Foliage

This was a lovely project presented to us at the Demonstrator Stamp Camp in March by Ria Kaire. We all really enjoyed making this - and I titled mine up so I had a little album for an upcoming weekend in Waipu.

And typical me, I didnt' get it entirely done until the night before we left for the trip!!

And one of Ria's famous embellishments is the chipboard letters covered in coloured glitter and then with Crystal Effects. It's a two day process, but the effect is stunning:

The inside of the album features a waterfall elements where with the pull of a tab, the flaps flip out:

Now silly me I didnt' show it on pics! But each of the small pictures on the flaps slides up to reveal hidden journaling. It was a very very cool project with lots of wow to it!!

And Ria introduced us to the Well Worn papers, the same papers I used in my last layout. They are yummy!

Well Worn Teenage Boy Scrapbook Layout

I had an entire day at home with no where to go, so I spread out and thoroughly enjoyed the creation of this page of Bayley, Rob's son. My challenge was to use the Well Worn papers, which was easy enough as they are lovely to work with - blending nicely and none of the prints too loud.

See my table as I was in progress with this one on my FaceBook page!

the layout design is reasonably simple, but the amount and number of patterns here makes it look busier than it is. I like the "warm" colours and the cozy feel of this one.

The word across the bottom was fun to do - We made a River Rock tag pinned down by brads for the first letter. Then hand cut or die cut reverse letters for the other three tags and back with crimped Cajun Craze cardstock.

The "No" stamp is from the Grunge Rock stamp set - can you see how I changed the stamp? The background is from the same stamp set.

The circle embellishment on the photo is also from Grunge Rock, and I thought perfect for this particular photo as well.

The journaling is just computer printed and scissor cut apart - a very easy way to get your journaling to "fit" into various spaces! I love doing this . . . partly because I just hate formatting things to fit!

I am teaching this layout again in Birkenhead north shore Monday May 14th 7:30 pm. We had some new ladies last night out in Howick and it was lovely! Beginners or experienced people are always welcome!

Autumn Leaves in Polished Stone

I had a request some weeks ago for the Polished Stone technique, and I found this lovely idea on the net - rather than using it as a background, to die cut the Polished Stone into shapes to be used as embellishments.

These leaves were perfect.

To do Polished Stone, you need glossy cardstock, ispopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol from the chemist), and ink refills. We also used a spray of the Gold and Silver Shimmer spray on top.

Wet a cotton ball with the reinkers (3-4 colors) and dab in the alcohol. Then dab or wipe all over the cardstock until you have the look you want. You can even spray the cardstock with alcohol to make the colors blend even more if you wish.

This is a simple layout card, but a great one to feature a striking technique like this one.

Moroccan Spice box

My friend, Dianne Appleton, asked me to make a box for her to fit her LOVELY spices range. Most any spice bottle would fit, however, for a truly excellent gift, Equagold has no competition. There is nothing like her cinnamon!! You can order her products directly or get them from Nosh, health food grocers, and specialty shops.

I was designing around her Moroccan Spice mix, Ras El Hanout, so we wanted to use more of a Moroccan colour palette. Which are rich colours, but with a mix of bright.

With the new Scoring Tool, making boxes like this is easy peasy, and without any sort of pattern needed.

The new Framelits dies were absolutely perfect for making a wee window so the recipient can see what goodies are inside. And a lovely way to feature this particular product.

The big boofy flower was fun to make - a simple layering of flowers all scrunched together was all it took. We also did some stamping and wetting and sponging to make this extra spectacular.

I am thinking I will make smaller versions of these for my convention swaps. With the new Scoring Tool, it wouldn't take long to whip out the boxes. What do you think?

Flower Folds Hair Clip

It was my youngest daughter's (Sofie's) 10th birthday last week. My eldest daughter, Madeleine, decided to make her this lovely skirt:

It's super quick and easy with just two seams and a hem to do. And my overlocker makes that nice and easy on such slipper fabric.

I used the remaining scraps to make a little scarf/hair tie/belt thing.

And the very last bits were cut up with the lining and made into this lovely hair clip. I absolutely love these!!

We made these at my stamp camps last year, and the ladies just loved them, if you recall my post about them in September. For seamstresses using up bits and matching clothing, these are perfect. For those who hate to sew, these are perfect - no sewing!

Mouthwatering Swap Card

Well the day I took these must have been very dark in my house! LOL

These little cuties were my swap for team training on saturday. My eldest daughter commented that they were more simple than I usually do. Actually not.

Although there is a lot of white and white space, that doesn't necessarily mean the techniques were simple. Just that the design is easy for the eye to interpret.

I've used the new set Mouthwatering here, which are some fun, bold images - perfect for the new Scented Embossing Powder! I've done these up with the cherry scent, which had all three of my daughters' attention when I was heating it.

The background paper is the fun new DSP, Sweet Shop, a specialty pack that features raised embossing on some of the prints. I'd like to do a scrapbook page using these papers. I'm sure I have a messy, ice cream or ice block photo in the stash.

And LOVE the baker's twine - all the colours from last catalogue (white, espresso, and cherry cobbler) are still available too!

Twitterpated Altered Tin for my Customers

Yesterday was a fun day with many of my team around me for a sunny morning of nibbles, chats, and crafting! Oh yes, and we did do a bit of training in there - time ran a bit short. I didn't hear any grumbling, though.

My friend and downline, Barbara Bicknell of Chocolate Boutique in Parnell, has been slipping me these tins for months now, with the idea that we'd use them to make rubbish containers for our classes with the team. Sadly, Barbara wasn't able to be there yesterday! Always a team player, she is an exemplary woman.

I explained the concept to the ladies and let them go for it. Here is what I came up with while playing on my own:

I'm enjoying that bird die! I might use her on my swaps for convention next month. Any cute or lovely ideas, please send them my way! :) (Trolling the web is not one of my favorite activities)

I got out every flower die and every flower punch we have and let the girls just create their own exotic specimens. Luckily I'm not a florist so they all look perfect to me.

I'll be taking this around to my classes with me so you can have a hands on look (don't all of us creative people look with our fingers??) I have six tins left and Barbara is willing to be my secret supplier, so if you'd like to do this in a class, please let me know! Lots of fun and practical for your work area, too!

Artistic Etchings in Shades of Blue

My lovely team member and friend, Kate Tobeck, gave me a card a few weeks ago that I have cased here. It's beautiful! She had a flower rosette made out of the striped grosgrain ribbon, while I added a pinwheel rosette made of various cardstocks. I also added the Chantilly lace Ribbon.

This card actually has quite a lot to it - the background stamping on the Top Note Die is lovely and easy to acheive. The eiffel tower is lightly coloured in for a little bit of pop from the vanilla background.

We used nearly every single stamp in that Artistic Etchings set!

A Butterfly Prints Case

Well I'm at the airport on my way to Sunny Nelson (fingers crossed), and this is one of the projects they pulled out of my samples box last month and requested. Designed by Sharna Russell, I changed it up just a smidge and will happily present this cutie to the ladies today.

The front uses the goodie, Butterfly Prints, and the Butterfly Punch. It was fun to use those after a long "rest" . . .

The inside of the card is a cute surprise - made out of an envelope, creating both the card fold and a pocket with a tag.

Easy and effective and just something fun and different!

And the cool thing about Stampin' Up! Envelopes is they are made from the same highly refined cardstock as the Whisper White, so they stamp just as nicely as you'd expect from this company.

Sweet Little Dress - Using the Simply Scored Tool

I've been having lots of fun using the new Simply Scored tool - nothing like a new item to get the creativity flowing!

This one is strongly inspired by a cute sample on Splitcoaststampers - forever lost and never to be found again. My apologies to the original artist:

The skirt is made using the Simply Scoring Tool - simple scoring at regular intervals and pleating together.

The bodice is made using the Round Tab Punch. Cute!

The dress was completed with a tiny pearl necklace, using the strings of pears that come with the Basic Pearls.

The new pleated ribbons are yummy!! Order a share of this ribbon for 1/4 of a roll of each of four colours for $16.95+postage.

Attic Boutique Explosion Purse

I've been having lots of fun playing around with the new Simply Scoring Tool in the Autumn/Winter Mini Catalogue. Last night we made these lovely Explosion Purses and a little card to match:

The purse itself is made with a 12x12 and comes out quite large - enough for a small gift. Of course you can make it any size, just start with a square.

These new Attic Boutique papers are sooo lovely. That Poppy Parade/Pool Party combo has become my new favorite.

I often have requests for doing 3D flowers. They aren't as tricky as they look. This lovely one is made using the new Blossom Punch and the Vanilla Smooch Spritz. Even a very simple project looks yummy with a big boofy flower like this!

Twitterpated Sisters Scrapbooking Layout

As per request, this is my jazzed up version of my last layout, inspired by Delys Cram.

These papers are much busier and more colourful than the Spice Cake, so I had to change up a few things to make it work:

Although the design is simple, there are still a few techniques in here and a lot of new product! It was fun to have a play with all the new goodies. Love that! ~

Besides the photo, of course, the main element on this page is the new Elegant Bird die. Nearly a copy of the sample in the mini catalogue, minus the chicken pox, as one of my customers called it. LOL

I wanted to add a bit to her tummy, but colouring in just wasn't looking right. A bit of subtle stamping with the new Bordering on Romance set and some glitter seemed just right.

I am offering Ribbon Shares of the new, gorgeous pleated ribbon.

These rosettes are made using the new Simply Scoring Tool! Wow do I love this tool. I already have an idea of how to use it on my next layout. These little flowers are easy to make and use literally just bits of cardstock.

I was using tiny pieces and still I think the Blushing Bride one turned out a smidge too big for what I was envisioning.

Up, Up & Away!

This is a fun, fun, fun project designed by Irene Wardlaw and Rayleen Baker. I lost my sample . . . so had to make it all up again!! Would love to know where the original is hiding in this house!

They did a fantastic job, didn't they?

The balloons are quick and easy to cut out, and folding three in half and gluing together is a neat and easy little technique to make it that little bit different.

You know, between this project and the last one Irene did, I'm beginning to think she really loves polka dots. So do I! Love this design.

The front is cool enough, but open it up and another surprise!

A simple but effective idea!

Welcome to the new Autumn Winter Mini Catalogue!

Yesterday I finally got some time to crack open the new goodies from the Autumn Winter Mini Catalogue! It was fun to have a play! I was very impressed with the new Framelits Dies - the nesting shapes make it easy to make mats and layers perfectly as featured here:

The request at the West Harbour class yesterday was to do an Acetate Card, which are fun to do. Easy enough once you get your head around making sandwiches and layers to hide adhesive.

This is a beautiful flower stamp from the Mixed Bouquet set, which coordinates perfectly with the new Blossom Punch.

We used the oldie-but-goodie Rock & Roll Technique to acheive two mixed colours on the image - a sublte and lovely technique when used with similar colours.

The sentiment is from Bring on the Cake, a huge set with all sorts of birthday wishes. We embossed this in white to help it stand out on the printed papers. It's nice sometimes to stamp on the coloured paper and use the white as the mat. . .

Spice Cake "Beautiful" Scrapbooking Layout

This is a take from the lovely, talented Delys Cram - a version of a SaleABration layout she showed us all at our Demonstrator Training Stamp Camp. I absolutely loved what she did - so this is my version using the Spice Cake papers:

I used this easy design as a demonstration at the recent Auckland Craft Expo, so some of you may have seen me whip this together in 20 minutes. Simple and Lovely. You know, it's the colours Stampin' Up! puts together and makes all the accessories coordinate - that is a big part of what makes even simple designs look fantastic.

The Spice Cake papers also have optional coordinating fabrics, which I used here to make this embellishment flower. I've used the Blossom Party die here and it cuts through fabric like butter.

I've used the Perfect Alphabet here to make the title, and punched them with the 3/4 inch circle punch. There! An easy way to make a title without stamping directly and without cutting out individual letters!

That Beautiful Butterflies die sure does get a workout in my craft room. Who doesn't love butterflies?? From age 1 to adult, they are always a winner!!

It's quite clever how the butterflies and folded in half and then layered again with vellum to give quite a lot of height and interest.

And love those Vintage Tags!

Last weekend we had a Lovely day in Hamilton enjoying the SaleABration Stamp Extravaganza there. The team was nice to work with, the projects fun and acheivable, and the sun shining.

My littlest one, Sofie, came along to help me. She's found a new love of craft, which her mother is certainly enjoying!

Kristine McNickle kindly made Sofie up a thank you gift for helping on the day using the SaleABration goodies:

She had some cuter little treats in there than that, but they were eaten long before we got back home . . .

That SaleABration set Outlined Occasions is quite cute, isn't it, especially when the two parts of the words are stamped in different colours like that. How thoughtful that Stampin' Up! made them two separate stamps!

Elements of Style Poppin' Pastels

Another remake of an oldie - this one originally inspired by a simple card found in the good old Idea Book & Catalogue.

We've used a few different pastel techniques here - used them over Versamark on the Lucky Limeade piece and used them to colour in an image on the flowers.

I remember in the olden days we just used pastels to shade edges . . .

The little words are done using the Curly Label Punch - don't you love how a punch can be used in so many different ways?? Gosh I love my tools!!

A remake Red, Black and White

I designed this project up about three years ago, and today I'm posting a little remake of it. It's a cute little one with a fun punch technique:

We used a series of circle punches to create the frame / window on the front, which is quite simple and effective. The leftover scallop shaped frame can be inserted inside the card for a little wow.

Love the striped embossing folder!

This little cutie is perfect for any girly girl ~

STAMP CAMP 2012 Rotorua!

This last weekend was the Demonstrator Stamp Camp! Wow did we have lots of fun! I think all of us fell into bed Sunday night and slept through Monday as well. I know I took a 2 hour nap yesterday myself . . .

We had wonderful teachers from all over the country, great challenge games, and heaps and heaps of laughing. I really appreciated the support the team members showed to one another; at the tables working and sharing, encouraging the teachers, and socializing together.

Friday night the boys and I went out to get some dinner at the local McDonalds . . . but the restaurant bit was closed. We had to walk through that drive through. Rob even when he is dead tired, can be so fun. Even the workers were laughing.

Saturday all day the girls worked and worked and worked, and the three boys who braved the camp went out on the water. And didn't I love to see them strutting in for lunch in their wet suits! It's a pleasure to have these boys in my life.

Saturday night we were given a limited supply challenge, which was really taxing our brains at that stage!! We couldn't use scissors or trimmers and had a bag with just a few bits in it. We could use any other materials, like rubbish or scraps . .. or flax . . .

This is what my team came up with. I am the lucky lady who took it home and my three girls are enamoured, as I thought they would be.

It did turn out lovely.

Well it was a fantastic weekend. Thank you to all, especially Shona Edmonds, who made the experience wonderful. Next year already booked!

Spice Cake Suite Scrapbooking Layout - Sugar & Spice

This creation is for tonight's scrapbooking class - inspired strongly by the sample in the Summer Mini Catalogue itself! I really liked the layout, and just jazzed it up a bit more.

I don't think I could have found a better photo for this - done by photographer and friend Kylie Pokere, she gave us an excellent deal. She did a fantastic job, charged us for the shoot and a disk where I can print the photos as I wish to do layouts. Creative family photos at a great price and plenty of inspiration for my work.

I used the Gold Glow sprintz all over the layout, leaving and loving the blobs that came out on "accident". I actually like that sort of look, too.

The yummy Spice Cake papers were woven (this is actually quite quick and easy) to create a lovely background mat with lots of colour.

The butterfly brad is from the Fresh Vintage SaleABration Suite - mixing in some girlie in there.

Who would have put More Mustard with Pool Party?? I quite like it.

I love how this frame turned out! I created my own background stamp by putting four of the Spiced Paisley cling stamps onto one big block, then stamped away. Went over the top with the Woodgrain stamp and edged with white ink. Turned out awesome!

The amphersand is covered with the Spice Cake fabric! I'm hoping some of the ladies tonight do their titles in fabric - didn't quite work with what I was doing, but would look fantastic in general.

Used bits of the fabric on the layout for "ribbon", too.

I have another photo I wanted to fit on here, but it just was better to leave it as is, so I think at class tonight I will make a facing page layout to go with this one. We'll see. Might be too busy chatting!

Next Scrapbooking Class is Wednesday April 4th. Theme to be determined tonight, but taking requests!
