Stampin' Up! 2017 Easel Calendar

Hi Friends,

Stampin' Up! gave us a printable 2017 desktop calendar PDF to use for 3D projects. Isn't that nice? There was a Paper Pumpkin calendar project awhile back, and Stampin' Up! decided we might like to make a similar project for 2017. Click HERE for that printable PDF.

I looked around online at several templates for desktop calendars. In the end I choose Debbie's as my starting point. My measurements had to be different to accommodate the size and shape of the calendar pages. Here's what I did:

You need a piece of cardstock measuring 11" x 4". Score the long side @ 1/2", 1-1/2", 2-1/2", and 6-3/4".

Fold up all your scored lines, and add some sticky strip to the 1/2" edge.

I liked Debbie's idea of having a piece of whisper white to set off the dsp strip. I used a 3-3/4" x 4" piece of whisper white. The dsp measures 2 x 3-3/4".

Next, I used my Project Life: Day to Day set to stamp the months on the correct numbered calendar and the year on the easel. That set has retired but the new set is called Project Life Date It. Then, I adhered the December page directly to the easel.

Then I used a temporary adhesive (most supply stores have them) to adhere each month on top of the other in reverse order.

Next I removed the backing to the sticky strip and closed up the easel. Note how to fold in the bottom to give the easel effect.

To keep the calendar pages from falling off the easel, add a bead of liquid glue along the top.

I used the Petite Petals stamp set and punch to decorate.

Hi Friends,

I am in the throws of making my own Christmas cards to mail out by the end of November. I am up to 60 cards and I think I need only 10 more. This card is very simple but, I think, a little bit elegant.

Notice the blue hue over the snowman? All you need is a sponge and soft sky ink. I just tapped the sponge in the ink and then lightly bounced the sponge over the snowman.

The scalloped mat around the snowman and the sentiment were created with the Layering Ovals Framelits. However, the oval scallop in white was created with the retired scallop oval punch.

Here are the rest of the details about what I used:

Anniversary Fold Card and NEW Stampin' Up! Stitched Framelits

Hi friends,

Still having some fun with this fancy fold. Notice how I added a strip of dsp at the top placing the drapery fold about a third down the card. This is the Blooms & Bliss Designer Series Paper. I just love the colours in this pack. The glitter ribbon is in the Holiday Catalogue and comes in a package with two colours: sweet sugarplum and silver.

Take a look at this tutorial on splitcoaststampers to get the idea. Here are the instructions for mine:

instructions: DSP measuring 9” x 3-1/2”

score on long side: 1”, 1-1/2”, 2-1/2”, 3”, 4”, 4-1/2”, 5-1/2”, 6”, 7”, 7-1/2”

turn dsp so short side is across the top with widest scored section is at the bottom

on a paper cutter slice from ½” across on short side to first scored line (on an angle)

Also, today I would like to tell you about some new framelits which are available for purchase. They are stitched framelits. I will be getting these ones for sure. I like having the look of stitching without having to actually do any of the sewing stuff.

Here I am playing around with the Swirly Bird set making some unique designer series paper. All you do is just choose your colours and stamp all over the paper. Then cut it into strips and add it to a card. Easy, peasy thank you cards!

Let's meet for coffee ..

Coffee Culture is very interesting. Often I hear, "Let's meet for coffee, or "We should do coffee," or "Wanna go for coffee?" And strangely enough it doesn't always mean you want to drink coffee. Oh the humanity!!! It seems to often mean something different. Like ... "I want to spend a little bit of time with you in a neutral location." It could mean, "I have something very important to discuss with you." Or ... "I'm bored, have nothing exciting to talk about, but I want to see you." Or this one ... "I'm really interested in getting to know you better, but let's start simple."

And in the end whether you have coffee, tea, hot chocolate, a frozen drink or a sandwich, the end result is you got out. You saw someone you wanted to see, and just maybe had a good time.

Reflections on a Traveler - Technique Tuesday

A friend of mine asked about what she could use to create the reflection technique since she did not have any window sheets. Actually there are several things available right in your own home. If you are a card maker, you likely have acrylic blocks and stamp cases. Both work equally well. The piece of plastic which comes with the stamp-a-ma-jig also can be used. But any piece of acetate or plastic works amazingly well. I have a laminator and have been known to run one of the sleeves through without anything in it to have a strong acetate piece. But the simplest and cheapest household item you can use is a small freezer bag.

What you do is ink up your stamp and stamp it on the bag. Then turn the bag ink-side down and upside down under the original image already stamped on your cardstock. Align it and gently press your finger along the bag over the image. And voila! One reflected image! It is like magic!

A stampwithbev Technique Tuesday

Hi Friends!

There are times when a full card just isn't necessary or easy to do. There are times when the thought of trying to fill an entire 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" canvass just seems overwhelming. There are times when you just want to make and send a quick tiny card alone or with a gift. Mini cards to the rescue!

What you need for each cardbase is a piece of cardstock measuring 6" by 3". Fold it in half. The coloured cardstock between the base and whisper white measures 2-3/4" square. The piece of whisper white measures 2-1/2" square. This is your mini-card canvass. Pick an image you wish to use. Here is a list of the stamps I've used:

Awesomely Artistic
Sprinkles of Life
Butterfly Basics

Add some colour. To add the shading around the bottom of the trees or around images like the ship, I used an aquapainter filled with rubbing alcohol and picked up some ink from the appropriate inkpad. For the leaves on the trees I stamped them twice in coordinating colours and just offset them a bit on the paper. Add a sentiment and you're done!

You just need to make or purchase some 3"x3" envelopes. Stampin' Up! does not sell this size anymore. I found mine in packs of 20 at Michaels.

Wacky Watercooler Anniversary

Celebrating a wonderful 3rd anniversary at the Wacky Watercooler. As one of the original crew, I have been invited to participate in this momentous event. Likely you have arrived from Kath's blog. I am always in awe with what she creates. Such an inspiring artist.

Anniversaries are about remembering what has come before and celebrating what is happening now. With that in mind, I decided to add some old with the new in my card. You will notice I have used a stamp which has been around for a long time, three stamp sets which were new in 2013, and a set which was new last year. I have used inks from Stampin' Up! Regal, Bright and Subtle color families. Also, I have used one ink from each of the two current in-color families.

stamps: teeny tiny wishes, flower shop, gorgeous grunge, wetlands, awesomely artistic

ink: garden green, mint macaron (in color 2015-17), so saffron, tempting turquoise, sweet sugarplum (in color 2016-18)

paper: garden green, sweet sugarplum, whisper white

other: woodgrain embossing folder, aquapainter filled with rubbing alcohol

I stamped off the flowers once on my paper before stamping onto the cardstock. The flourish of energy around the dragonfly was created with rubbing alcohol in the aquapainter dipped in so saffron and tempting turquoise. The extra grass lines around the wetlands wheat stamp were created with the aquapainter as well.

I stopped by the Watercooler today, and noticed Penny's challenge this week is to create a Clean and Simple card with butterflies. Well .. you all know how much I love butterflies!

Here is my card:
