Sunshine Stamps Christmas

Happy Wednesday! Today is Wednesday and that means it is Sunshine Stamps day on my blog. Today I am featuring 2 new stamps from the holiday collection- Waving Snowman and Arrangement. My Mom had a candle thing like that when I was a kid and who can't enjoy a friendly snowman. As soon as I saw these stamps I couldn't wait to play with them.

But I DID have to wait. I'm in the midst of moving and most of my stamp supplies are in storage for a few weeks. Since I am an old hand at moving, I thought this would be easy because I packed myself a goody box of necessities. I forgot my favorite cardstock, ribbon (I didn't bring ANY ribbon but I did remember my special ribbon scissors!), corner rounder, stickers and red cardstock. While I packed I decided to pack ALL of my punches- I'm regretting that now! Many of my embellishments are packed away as well so I am using this as an OPPORTUNITY. Sometimes we end to over embellish and over decorate our cards so much we can hardly see the image! So for the next few weeks (until Thanksgiving) I'll be going clean and simple, with my focus on layout.

Today's cards were inspired by Sunshine Stamps new images and sketches from Splitcoast. I stuck to simpler sketches with bolder elements and I like how the images- the focal point of my cards- are highlighted. You'll be seeing more holiday cards over the next few days- I think I colored the arrangement in every known color combination.

Is this a good example of stamp kissing?

I have had the day, you know how that goes?

So my question to you is:

I used kissing technique for the flowers? Is it working or is it too subtle? I am trying to write a newbie tutorial and I'm not sure this is a good example for a newbie.

So be honest (Most of my embellishments, 99.5% of my rubber stamps and all of my ribbon is in storage- I know this card isn't embellished very much.)

Inching toward Rumble 18 in the Cottage Studio

Today is Rumble #18 in the Cottage Studio. Clear Artistic Stamps are perfect for creating mini artwork: inchies (1x1) and twinchies (2x2).

For my twinchies above I kept it very simple using images from Stationery Time set and the butterfly from Butterfly Joy.

Lower Left- As simple as it gets- a simple background with designer paper.
Upper Left- I lightly scribbled some stripes with Inktense pencils and then blended the colors with a sponge. After it dried I stamped the images.
Upper Right- Zentangles are one of my new favorite artforms. I created a Zentangle with a pale pink sharpie marker then stamped on top.
Lower Right- I used another Zentangle and stamped the large butterfly image with waterproof ink. Then I used very light colors of Copic markers to color the image, using colors sheer enough that the Zentangle shows through!

Several months ago Clear Artistic Stamps hosted its first blog hop. I created a project using these large flowers. I wasn't crazy about my project but loved the flowers so I used them as a basis for this card.

Dustin Pike Cards

That owl image is my favorite Dustin Pike image. He collected cards for Children's Hospital and anyone who sent him 5 or more cards received a holiday collection of 30 images. I didn't do it for the stamps but rather to help others. I love that owl- he is just a hoot!

This is a pre-scheduled post. As you read this my family and I are driving to our new hometown.

Moving Thoughts for Friday

I love these Japanese dolls- they are from a set from My Grafico. I had the background paper for a while (a cool find from Tuesday Morning) and it seemed perfect with the flowers on the kimonos. I added a little Stickles to their hair ornaments.

I'll be in and out for the next few days. My family is relocating to our hometown next week. Very exciting to reconnect with family and friends. My dear friend Deb who started me stamping 15 years ago has assured me that we will be stamping in her home studio while our kids play together (back in the beginning we were carefree and childless!) I'm also looking forward to stamping with my new friend Brenda who is going to let me use her corner rounder because I packed mine and I NEED one to finish a project!

I actually stamped 10 cards on Monday so I have a few more projects to show you and by the time you've seen them I'll be in NY stamping in my mom's basement.

Zentangles

Zentangles are a new art form- similar to doodling repetitive patterns. I had to opportunity to review a kit for Craft Critique. Check out my review HERE. I created the tile above and several other Zentangles in the past few weeks. Very fun and addictive! If you like doodling I especially recommend it. My 9 year old played right along with me and we had fun.

I have artwork and/ or articles due this week for 4 of the 5 DT's of which I am a member. (The first time this has happened!) Rather than toss up any old thing today, I'm taking the day off from posting art today...

I have to list 10 things about me and then grant this award to 5 other creative people!

1) Pale pink and navy blue is my favorite color combination (extra points if there are polka dots involved!)

2) My husband and I collect Happy Hollister books. One day the flea market we bought 12 of them for $10! The vendor must not have known how collectable they are.

3) I have rosacea which is a skin condition that makes my face look red and flushed especially in the cold, hot sun, after a warm shower and after eating spicy food.

4) My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption. When I saw it at the theatre years ago the movie broke and the "explanation" at the end got spliced so I didn't see the ending until it came out on video.

5) When I was a kid the Brady Bunch was my favorite show. A few years ago Veronica Mars was my favorite. These days I like Monk, Greek and Hell's Kitchen.

6) I love to wear jeans and sneakers and in the winter my navy blue fleece too.

7) I wear glasses or contacts and this year for the first time ever I bought 2 pairs of glasses (1 pair black plastic, 1 pair bronze metal) so I can alter my daily look.

8) My husband and I (married 16 years next week) have NEVER had Cable or Satellite TV except for a 1 month stint while we were in furnished apartment waiting to close on a house.

9) I have a weakness- make that addiction- to office supplies- particularly pens.

10) When I was a kid Captain and Tennille was my favorite group. Years later I lived about 45 minutes from their lake Tahoe home but I never got to see them in person.

1) Holly- Not only is she a talented artist, but she has been very encouraging to me creatively
2) Heidi- She does incredible work with punches and embossing. I love her unique look.
3) Belinda- She is the owner of Clear Artistic Stamps, a gifted artist and a warm and wonderful person. I'm so honored to be on her DT.
4) Christina- Owner of Sunshine's Stamps, a gifted artist and a multi-faceted individual. I've enjoyed getting to know her since I became a member of her DT.
5) Kelly- Another talented blogger that I got to know through Sheetload. I am amazed at how she finds time to do it all!

Get Thee some Clearasil! (or tale of the ugly witch)

You do not know how hard it was for me NOT to make those two marks into zits! So I compromised and used that title.

This witch was a freebie from Squigglefly. Very easy to color. You can't tell from my photo but I added lowlights to her hair which is 4 different colors! Tomorrow they are having digi day and releasing a bunch of new stamps!

I created the background for my mini-purse using rubberbands wrapped around my acrylic brayer and Dsitress ink. The images are from a new set that I really like called Stationary Time.
