Surprise, I recently started a new hobby project :) – FollowForward.net

Here is the story… I watched the movie “Pay it forward” a few years ago. I knew right after that, that I wanted to help something similar to spread in the real world. However I didn’t have the exact idea. Just recently (I was in the bathroom) it came to me that the best opportunity is to use Twitter as a platform for spreading the idea. It fits perfectly. I also was lucky to find an available domain. The implementation of the site wasn’t much of a difficulty to me. Just 2 evening of writing beautiful ruby code and designing.

The idea is simple: Everyone tweets some positive thoughts about other people. Tweets start with the Hash-tag #FollowForward followed by the person you recommend and the reason why.

i.e. #FollowForward @30_Quotes because he shares smart and interesting famous quotes

After that every one will have a personal page with all the FollowForward’s about him. Here it is an example – @stan_bb

So I want to invite you to take a look at the site. Moreover I would be very happy if you like the idea and send some positive tweets to your friends. You know, these tweets could help someone feel happier today :) .

Hello World again :)

This will be my second shot for starting a personal/professional blog. Last time was about an year ago and I wrote only once :) . Well, a lot of interesting things have happened to me since that moment. I kind of regret a little that I have not written about them.

In a few sentences:

I sold my first StartUp – svejo.net
I started a few hobby projects – FFind, Twitlexa, iLikeProgramming
I wrote/set-up this blog from scratch using Jekyll
I learned VIM to the next level and I’m using it for everything. From editing server configurations to developing and even blogging :)
I started 30Quotes which I hope to become one of the most popular sites for Famous Quotes.

So, that’s for now. I hope I’ll write again sooner than an year :)

Twitlexa = Twitter + Alexa :) . The goal of this project was to give to people simple and useful statistics about their followers, friends and status counts. I stopped the project because it was using too much resources and couldn’t generate enough money. Twitlexa.com was crawing about 600 000 twitter accounts on daily basics. I was using Resque for queueing system and MondoDB/Rrrdtool for storing the data. While working on this project I learned Google Chart Tools and Resque. Moreover I gained more experience on Rrdtool, MongoDB and jQuery.

Hello everyone.

I have planned to start my personal and a kind of tech-specialized blog a long time ago. However I either had no time or just postponed it. Well this Saturday – 28.10.2009 I’m taking the first step. An important question for me was to decide in which language to write. Bulgarian as my native language or English. Well, as you can see :) , I decide to write in English. Why? There are two main reasons: First, I’ll improve my English this way and second I think that I could share things that will be useful for more people around the world.

I feel more like a citizen of the world, now, when I have a blog :)

The idea of this project was to be a simple and efficient online music player for YouTube videos. Something like a WinAmp clone. It was targeted for home-parties. So, people could search for videos and enqueue results without stopping the current clip. Well, I stopped working on the project because it did not had any monetization stream. While working on FFind.net I learned two new things – the YouTube API and MongoDB. Moreover I advanced with my jQuery skills.

While working on svejo.net I’ve learned a lot of things.
