LAYTON -- Each year, about 300 people die on Utah roadways, but one of the main factors in many of those deaths is slowly being eliminated.Road conditions are improving so when a motorist, for whatever reason, could end up in another lane, barriers that are more forgiving stop the vehicle and cushion the impact, saving lives, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Cameron Roden.Utah is one of the several states with the most favorable road-related crash experiences, according to a study released this week.

RIVERDALE -- A little girl with leukemia is getting a room of her own added to her family's home with help from local contractors and Kyle Korver of the Utah Jazz. Leah Warren, 10, was diagnosed with leukemia more than a year ago. Her mother, Raylin Warren, gathered support from local businesses and Riverdale City to build a new bedroom, but then some backed out because of the economy.

Top of Utah cities drenched in June

Many Utah cities got double or triple their average rainfall in June, but Liberty in Ogden Valley received about seven times its average with 7.6 inches. "They got clobbered," said Dan Brown, meteorologist technician for the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City. The NWS still is collecting rainfall totals for several stations across Utah but estimates the state received two to three times more rain than normal.
