Chef Career: Let's Get Cooking

If you find yourself right at home in the kitchen, perhaps a chef career would be right up your alley. When the thought of a chef career comes to mind, it may project thoughts of slaving over a hot, smelly grill, flipping burgers and hearing endless orders shouted through a loud speaker. While that may be the scenario for some chefs, there are actually many different options for this occupation.

Cooks for fast food and restaurant chains are always in demand because quick employee turnover is almost guaranteed. Many high school students take on these less-paying jobs solely as a summer gig. Others use the opportunity to bring in income until a more profitable job is found. However, restaurant, fast food and short order cooks are still categorized within the chef career spectrum and having the skill of producing high quality, tasty food is a talent that not everyone has. Everyone has to begin somewhere, and working for one of these kitchens provides cooking experience, looks good on resumes, and can act as a jumping off point for beginning a chef career.

If baking will be your forte in your chef career, perhaps a job at a cafeteria or nursing home would be a good job selection. While fast-food workers are constantly frying up and scooping out the same food products daily at a lickety-split pace, an institution kitchen is a more relaxed atmosphere where a variety of traditional, slightly more healthy dishes are prepared.

For instance, many cafeteria kitchens designate two or three items in which an employee is responsible for preparing and baking daily, such as a cook who makes bread products, one who creates casseroles, and others who hand-bread and roast chicken. Having a set food prep schedule gives a cook or chef the opportunity to ease into their specialty and, over time, perfect their craft.

After a few years of experience, it may be possible to advance to a head chef position at a prestigious eatery, such as a steak house or hotel restaurant. This chef career is a bit more stressful, as you are not only in charge of a kitchen full of employees; you are also required to insure the food going out to the paying customers is first-rate and superlative. A chef career at this high status will pay a higher income because cooking skills must be paramount and management skills proficient.

Possibly the most sought-after chef career is as a personal or private household chef. To be selected as a personal chef because of your impeccable cooking skills, creative dishes and flawless meal presentations is the height of honor for a chef after years of hard work and practice.

If you are considering a chef career, knowing how to cook is not enough. You must perfect your craft and stand out from all the rest who are your competition. Enrolling in a vocational school which provides cooking instructions or even a specialty college or institution could help mold you into the cooking expert that will send you on your way to the world of chef careers.

                                                   Food Of The Future

Forty years ago, a first-class stamp cost a nickel, a new science fiction television show called "Star Trek" made its debut and a tasty topping began its crunchy history of enhancing salads, baked potatoes and Americans' cupboards.

General Mills first tested Bac-Os as a better-for-you alternative to bacon in select markets in 1965. Bit by bit, the product's popularity took off, and it was dubbed a "food of the future" in early television advertisements. Consumers enjoyed the convenient product's multipurpose use-a savory ingredient used to jazz up casseroles, salads, soups and other favorite dishes. This handy condiment helped home cooks streamline their kitchen prep and promised the smoke-cured, sizzling flavor of bacon without a splattering mess.

"A jar of Bac-Os brought the flavor and texture of crisp bacon right to the family dinner table in a fraction of the time," says Maggie Gilbert, manager of the Betty Crocker Kitchens test kitchen. "Because they were considered superconvenient and required no refrigeration, they soon became a familiar ingredient in popular recipes of the day, such as holiday party dips, sweet-sour beans and twice-baked potatoes."

The brand debuted in its first print advertising campaign in 1970. The product was featured in several new recipes from the Betty Crocker Kitchens in national magazines, such as Better Homes and Gardens and Family Circle. Shortly thereafter, General Mills extended the line to include Saus-Os and Pepr-Os, two new soy proteins with distinct flavor possibilities.

Today, Bac-Os continues to appeal to consumers, particularly by offering added health benefits: They're made with the goodness of soy, are kosher and contain no MSG. They can also help consumers keep healthy eating in check, without tipping the scale on calories, fat, saturated fat or cholesterol.

BirthHappy day, Bac-Os!

Italian Spinach and Mushroom Salad

This seasonal salad for special gatherings has extra crunch and a burst of added flavor.

1 package (10 oz.) fresh spinach leaves, rinsed and patted dry

1 package (8 oz.) sliced mushrooms

1 can (19 oz.) Progresso chick peas, drained and rinsed

1/3 cup Betty Crocker Bac-Os bacon flavor bits or chips

1/2 cup seasoned croutons

1/2 cup Italian dressing

In large salad bowl, toss all ingredients except dressing. Just before serving, drizzle with dressing and toss gently. Makes 4 servings.

Jars of a revolutionary new "food of the future" product appeared on grocers' shelves 40 years ago, offering busy consumers the bacon flavor they loved with a simple shake of the wrist.

Raw Food Diet

Eating raw foods is natural. Our bodies thrive on all that is fresh and vital. A raw food diet (or increasing the amount of raw food that you eat) is bound to bring a feeling of increased wellbeing.

Raw food diets are based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, preferably organic, such as a variety of fresh fruits and vegies, nuts, seeds, grains, dried fruit, fresh juices and purified water.

Basically a vegetarian diet, the raw food diet promotes eating and drinking ‘living’ foods. Living foods and juices contain the maximum amount of fibre found in raw produce, fibre that can be lost in processing. Such foods are easily metabolised and tend to be lower in calories than the average diet.

Heating food above 116°F destroys enzymes in food that aid in digestion and in absorption of food, diminishing its nutritional value.

Benefits of a Raw Food Diet

A diet of at least 75% raw food offers numerous health benefits, such as increased energy, improved skin appearance, better digestion, weight loss and reduced risk of serious illnesses like heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

A raw food diet contains little or no saturated fats, is low in sodium, high in potassium, magnesium, folate and fibre.

Raw food diets are also excellent detox diets. Different combinations of raw, living foods and juices can be used for colon cleansing, liver cleansing, kidney cleansing and skin cleansing.

The Basics of a Raw Food Diet

Any fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, beans, nuts, legumes, young coconut milk – even seaweed – can be menu items of a raw food diet. Your choice of foods may depend on your reasons for dieting, for example:

- sprouted brown rice slows glucose absorption and improves the metabolism

- cabbage supports healthy cellular function; radish leaves act as an anti-oxidant, as does Shitake mushroom

-carrots are a great source of vitamin A as well as encouraging healthy vision and a healthy cardio-vascular system

You can use a sprouter such as the Easy Green automatic sprouter to sprout seeds, grains, beans – even wheatgrass. Sprouts could be called a ‘super food’ – organic sprouts contain enormous levels of proteins, vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, chlorophyll pigments and enzymes, and are the ideal natural supplement.

Sprouts can be used in salads and soups, or can be juiced. Fresh juices are a great ready energy supply and a good quality juicer, such as the Kempo Greenpower juicer, produces living juices that are full of essential nutrients.

A great juicing recipe to complement a raw food diet is carrot juice with potato, fennel and apple. Simply juice 4 medium carrots, 2 apples, 1 small potato and 1 small stalk of fennel.

Fennel has been shown to reduce and control inflammation of arthritis, it evens mood fluctuation and depressive states and has the rare nutrient called manganese, plus zinc and vitamin B complex.

The nutritional value of grains and seeds is impressive. They contain most of the vitamins – particularly A, B, and E. They’re also fantastic natural sources of unsaturated fatty acids and lecithin, and an excellent source of proteins.

You can even use soy milk makers (such as SoyQuick) to make non-dairy drinks from different beans, rice, nuts, seeds and grains to have with breakfast. If you want something a little more substantial than soy milk you can make your tofu (or, of course, visit a good health food shop).

Essentially, the idea of a raw food diet is to eat unprocessed foods for at least 75% of the time. If the idea of raw food isn’t very appetising to you, you can warm the food a little as long as the food isn’t heated above 116°F.

Cautionary Note

As with any major change in diet, it’s wise idea to consult your doctor before beginning a special diet. This is especially true for children, pregnant women, anyone with anemia and anyone with a pre-existing medical condition.

Even natural foods can conflict with certain medications, so please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you’re taking any medication.

Because a raw food diet is detoxifying some people suffer a mild detox reaction including mild headaches, nausea and cravings. These symptoms may last for several days and you’ll get more enjoyment out of your raw food diet if you cut down on things like meat, sugar and caffeine a week or so before commencing the diet.

Last But Not Least…

A raw food diet is certainly a good way to improve your overall health and wellbeing. Like anything worthwhile it takes time, energy and commitment. Because many of the foods for this particular type of diet are made from scratch there is some preparation time involved. There are many great products on the market that can help you prepare your own living food and save you some time as well.

Combined with regular exercise, a raw food diet is also an excellent weight loss method. If you’ve been feeling ‘a little off’, or just need a pick-me-up and some extra energy, then a raw food diet is certainly a good way to go.

foods that make you age faster

Do you eat these harmful foods that make you age faster? Some even falsely marketed as "healthy" by the food companies. Avoid or minimize them and appear 5-10 years YOUNGER than your actual age.

By Mike Geary - Personal Trainer graduate, graduate nutrition specialist
Author of the bestseller: The Truth About Abs
Co-Author of The Kitchen Brûleuse Fats & The Top 101 foods that aging FIGHT

Because of biochemical reactions in your body that occur with all types of food you eat every day, some foods make you grow old FASTER, while others help you FIGHT against aging.

If you eat the wrong foods regularly can appear and feel OLDEST 10 years or older than your real age (not friendly at all!) ... So that by eating the right foods, over time, you can begin to appear 5-10 years YOUNGER than your actual age.
Three of the processes in your body that have a MAJOR impact on your rate of aging are called "glycation", "inflammation" and "oxidation". When we talk about aging, we are not just talking of wrinkles on your skin or thickness of your hair ... we also talk about factors that you can not see as the way your organs function, and if your joints are deteriorating.

I'm sure you'll agree that it's much more important than just looking at the surface (although we will show you how to remedy BOTH!).

I'll show you how your rate of aging can be directly related to the foods you can eat every day, and how to protect yourself ...

Food # 1 makes you age faster: wheat (yes, even "whole wheat")

Before I tell you why wheat can actually accelerate the aging process in your body, let's clarify some simple biochimies in your body ...

This has to do with the "glycation" in your body and terminals substances called glycation products (AGEs). These nasty little compounds called AGEs accelerate the aging process in your body including damage over time on your organs, joints, and of course, wrinkled skin.

So, that said, what are the main factors that increase the production of AGEs in your body? This may surprise you, but a high level of blood sugar greatly increases AGEs that accelerate aging of your body. This is why the type 2 diabetics seem evil age and appear older than their actual age. But this effect of increase of aging is not just for diabetics.

Returning to the relationship with the "whole wheat" ...

Here is a little known fact often covered by large marketing campaigns of the big food companies want you to believe that the "whole wheat" is healthy for you ... the fact is that wheat contains a very unusual type of carbohydrate (not present in other foods) called Amylopectin-A. This carbohydrate has been shown in tests to raise your blood sugar HIGHER than table sugar.

In fact, amylopectin-A (wheat) increases your blood sugar MORE than any other source of carbohydrates on earth, according to tests on sugar responses in the blood.

This means that wheat-based foods such as bread, bagels, cereals, muffins and other pastries often cause much MORE HIGH sugar levels in the blood than most other sources of carbohydrates. If you do not believe me, here's something you should know ... I have done blood sugar tests on myself using a blood glucose meter about 45 minutes after eating two slices of wholemeal bread after eating a bowl of oatmeal, with equivalent amounts of carbohydrates.

Results of blood glucose tests:

2 slices of wholemeal bread:
45 minutes after consumption: the level of blood sugar level rose from 86 to 155 fasting.

1 bowl of oatmeal (with an equivalent amount of carbohydrates in 2 slices of whole wheat)
45 minutes after consumption: the level of blood sugar level rose from 86 to 112 fasting.
As you now know, the higher your blood sugar in the blood is high over time and AGEs are formed inside of your body, making you age FASTER. Obviously, whole wheat has raised sugar levels in the blood MUCH more than oatmeal, and if you do not know, 155 is a massive blood sugar reading will certainly contribute to faster aging if you eat corn frequently.

You've probably also heard about the potential adverse health effects of gluten (another problematic compound present in wheat that can cause inflammation in your digestive system) in recent news, but this aspect of sugar in the blood that we have address has not considered this, and this is yet another reason to reduce or eliminate wheat-based foods from your diet. Your body will thank you as they age more slowly and appearing YOUNGER!

Losing body fat is usually another nice side effect is to eliminate or reduce the wheat from your diet!

In fact, my own father, who is now in his sixties, has just eliminated 95% of the wheat from her diet there about 3 months (aside one day a week), and he noticed that his chronic joint pain disappeared completely ! Not only that, but he also noted that he finally lost his "love handles" ... Simply by reducing its consumption of wheat!

Yet another problem with food made from wheat and aging ...

It also turns out that the wheat-based bakery products contain carcinogenic chemicals called acrylamides that form in the golden part of the bread, cereal, muffins, etc. These carcinogenic acrylamide have been linked to increased risk studies of cancer and accelerated aging. Note that acrylamides are also present at high levels in other sources of carbohydrates such as golden fries or other starchy brown.

Do not worry ... There is a trick you can use to protect you from these carcinogens acrylamide, and it has something to do with eating the right foods that neutralize the damage caused by these hazardous chemicals. I'll show you how to find the EXACT foods that protect your body in a minute!

In reading today's article, remember that cardiovascular diseases are the No. 1 cause of MORTALITY in the modern world, with even higher rates than cancer! For some reason, most people do not seem to care about it until it's too late and they have a heart attack or even they DIE to 30-40 years for some.

By Mike Geary - Certified Nutrition Specialist
Author of bestsellers: The Kitchen Brûleuse Fats & The Top 101 foods that aging FIGHT

It is time that people begin to take seriously the health of their heart before it's too late. Unfortunately, most do not think of something they can not easily see or feel ... after all, you can not "see" how many plaques clog your arteries every day, as you can not see how much fat body you have accumulated during the day.
This means that most people are unaware of their heart health until they have a heart attack or even die. Worse, I see many people make jokes about clogged arteries from eating junk food, saying things like "I'd rather enjoy life than worry about clogging my arteries." Sorry to break the mood, but you can not enjoy life if you are DEAD!

This mentality so popular not to worry about the time bomb that is the health of your heart is very sad if we thought about it.

Eat donuts and fried chicken is it REALLY "enjoy life"? Not for me anyway! I'm sure you will agree that to be healthy, happy, active, and able to do all the things you like as they age is much MORE important in life a few fleeting moments as enjoy a donut or something Fried will shorten your life.

One thing that sometimes wake people is the fact of making a test calcification of arteries and see how they are already clogged. This is a wake up call for many people who encourage them to finally worrying about their heart health before it's too late.

I mentioned the donuts and fried chicken above, which, as I'm sure you know, are obvious due to heart valves processed fats and inflammatory refined vegetable oils used in their manufacture ...

But what about the so-called food "healthy" like whole grains and the health of your heart? Well ...

Here is an excerpt of a great book I recently read called "The Great Cholesterol Myth" by Dr. Stephen Sinatra and Dr. Jonny Bowden ...

"A 2010 study in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that women who ate the highest amount of carbohydrates had a significantly higher risk of coronary heart disease compared to those who ate lesser amounts, but also that the carbohydrates high glycemic index were particularly associated with much greater risk of cardiovascular disease. "

As you can see, they made a direct connection between carbohydrate consumption and cardiovascular diseases. And as you already know if you've read my other articles, research in recent years have shown that natural saturated fats and dietary cholesterol have basically NOTHING to do with cardiovascular diseases. It's sugar, high GI carbohydrates, levels of stress and transform fat that seem to be the main culprits.

Click here for 101 super aiments, herbs and spices to SLOW aging (5-10 years make you look younger, lower blood pressure, fight against diabetes and improve your digestion)

What are the immediate effects on your heart a carbohydrate-rich meal?
In his book, Dr. Sinatra also discusses another study (the Sackler School of Tel Aviv University and Sheba Medical Center Heart Institute) on the function of the endothelial walls of the arteries before and after eating dose of carbohydrates with high GI ...

They used what is called the brachial reactive testing to measure the functioning of arteries and given high GI carbohydrates such as corn flakes and sugar to several groups of people (the same as a French breakfast current). .. Dr. Sinatra says, "enormous peaks indicating arterial stress were found in the high GI group."

We are not talking about damage of the arteries caused by saturated fats and cholesterol as was led to believe ... this study shows direct damage sugar and cereals on the arteries. Is not it sad that these cereals are announced by food conglomerates as foods "healthy and good for health."

Dr. Sinatra continues, "Researchers at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health noted that rapidly digested and absorbed carbohydrates (ie those with a high glycemic load) are associated with an increased risk of heart disease ". Note that one of the WORST carbohydrate sources in terms of blood sugar and glycemic levels is made from wheat (even the so-called "whole grain good for your health") and in glucose testing they have a greater impact on blood glucose than pure table sugar, due to the nature of amylopectin-A in wheat food.

Whole grains can raise CRP and inflammation in your body

Dr. Sinatra and Dr. Bowden also point to studies that directly show that people who eat high glycemic carbohydrates in their diet have higher levels of CRP (C-reactive protein), which is an indicator of overall inflammation in your body. A higher CRP usually means a higher risk of heart disease.

See the differences in CRP they noted - "... those whose diets were lowest glycemic rates had a reading of the average CRP of 1.6, but those whose diets were highest in glycemic had a higher CRP 3x (average size: 5.0 mg / L) ".

To give you a perspective on CRP if you eat a really healthy diet with a focus on healthy protein, lots of vegetables, spices, teas, red wine and other antioxidants, with a set of relatively carbohydrates weak ... I made my CRP test twice and my results are up from 0.1 to 0.4, which means a VERY LOW amount of inflammation in my body.

What about the so-called red meat "deadly" in relation to cardiovascular disease? Not so "lethal" ultimately ...

Unfortunately, the media and associations through a program against meat consumption have tried to lay the blame on red meat for decades. Let's see what the real scientists like Dr. Sinatra and Dr. Bowden have to say from a scientific point of view ...

Keep in mind that most previous studies had never separated processed meat (such as hot dogs, bolognese, cold meats with chemical additives, etc.) and non-processed meats (such as organic steak, tenderloin Organic pork, bios burgers, wild game meat, etc.) in the investigation of the relationship between meat consumption and heart disease.

But Dr. Sinatra and Dr. Bowden presented a Harvard study where the researchers analyzed 20 studies, including more than 1.2 million people in 10 countries and found that ... "each daily serving of 50g processed meat (about a hot dog or some deli meat slices) was associated with a 42% higher risk of developing heart disease. However, no relationship was found between heart disease and non-red meat treated ".

Remember also that fed beef to healthy grass contains a unique fat called CLA that drives cancer and helps promote fat loss.

As you can see in this article, even supposedly "healthy whole grains", which are a big industry these days, are now involved in cardiovascular disease and DEATH from damage, obstruction and hardening of the arteries resulting from inflammation.

You will drink this first morning

This daily tip can help you detoxify, improve your digestion, boost your metabolism and your energy levels

By Mike Geary - Certified Nutrition Specialist
Author of the bestseller: The Top 101 foods that aging FIGHT

You are bombarded with toxins in the modern world ... everywhere in the polluted air you breathe, the water you drink, shampoos and other cosmetics that foam on your body with chemicals and of course, all the chemical additives, pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and other harmful compounds in foods you eat.

All these Toxins can have adverse effects on your body, impair your metabolism and your hormones, reach your digestive system, and sabotage your energy levels.

If I told you ONE thing you could do every morning just after waking to help your body eliminate some of these toxins, improve digestion, boost your metabolism and your energy BOOSTER, would you do it?

Of course you would ... and it does not take more than a minute!

Here's the trick ...

Immediately after waking each day press about ½ to 1 whole lemon (depending on size of lemon) in a 25 cl glass of warm water or at room temperature. It is less aggressive for your body in the morning compared to ice water. I found that the lemon slice into quarters before pressing the hand is easier than to squeeze his own half.

Drink this at least 10 minutes before you eat anything the day.

Be sure to use organic fresh lemons to make this drink, and no bottled lemon juice. You must use organic lemons to avoid pesticides that can accumulate.

3 The main benefits of this drink in the morning for the body, health and energy:

According to a leading health publication, TheAlternativeDaily.com:

"The Lemon health benefits are powerful. For centuries, it has been proven that lemons contain powerful antibacterial, antiviral and immune stimulant components. We know that lemons are a big help in digestion and cleanse liver.

Lemons contain citric acid, magnesium, bioflavonoids, vitamin C, pectin, calcium and limonene which overfeed immunity so that the body to fight infection.

Lemons are considered one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat. This may sound wrong because they are acidic. However, in the body, lemons are alkaline; citric acid creates no acidity once it has been metabolized. The minerals in lemons are actually what helps alkalize the blood. Most people are too acidic (by eating too much sugar and cereals), the drinking hot water with lemon helps reduce the overall acidity while draining uric acid in the joints.

This reduces the pain and inflammation felt by many people. The American Cancer Society recommends hot water with lemon to encourage regular bowel movements. "

The benefits you can enjoy:

1. Improves your digestion:

Lemon juice helps your body to improve digestion and stimulate the production of bile. Lemon juice can even be a help for heartburn and indigestion.

2. Stimulates your energy for the day:

Even just the smell of lemon juice improves your mood and energy level, and reduce anxiety. Also the detoxifying and alkalizing effect of fresh organic lemon juice can improve your energy by eliminating toxins from your body.

3. It helps you lose fat:

Lemon juice helps to improve your digestive system, helps eliminate toxins and increase your energy level, all combined together to help you lose body fat by improving your hormonal balance ... Yet another Due to add the lemon with hot water to your daily morning routine!

This is a pretty simple thing, right?

Now for the good news ...

Here's what you need to do next ...

I want to share with you a way to find delicious food, spices, herbs and nutrients that will:

FOR GOLFING FANATICS:

Got a client who loves to golf? Get him or her a golf-themed gift basket. Most include some gourmet treats, perfect for snacking on the green. But many of them also include great accessories, such as a putting cup, club cleaner, tee, ball marker, towel or golf club brush. The food may be gone by the end of the day, but the accessories will stick around, and remind your business associate of you.

Most gardener gift baskets have a bit of a feminine theme, but many are neutral. Some include food, and most include accessories and tools like gardening gloves, seed packets, gardening tools, hand and nail cream.

British cuisine has always suffered from bad press. The simple homespun fare and plain preparation of most traditional British foods pales when compared to French haute cuisine, and it’s not uncommon for food critics to sound almost apologetic when writing about traditional British dishes as if there were something shameful in enjoying a good, thick joint of beef with an accompaniment of Yorkshire pudding. If they speak in glowing terms of anything at all, it is a nod to the clever naming of British foods, where dishes like bubble and squeak and spotted dick appear on restaurant menus.

And yet, for all the snickering and apologetic references, British cuisine at its best is hearty, delicious, simple fare on which to fuel the nation that influenced the entire world. There is no other nation in the world that does a roast of beef to such perfection, nor any better accompaniment to the succulent meat than a puffed, piping hot Yorkshire pudding prepared in its drippings, and few cuisines have a dessert that can compare with the pure heaven that is a well made trifle or treacle tart.

British cuisine is a blending of the practical with the nutritious. If it is, as some say, unimaginative, that may be because the food itself needs little imagination to fancy it up and make it palatable. It is certainly not because the British mind lacks imagination when it comes to food – the common names for everyday meals sometimes require a translator just so you’ll know what’s on your plate. A walk through a restaurant take-away menu offers such dishes as ‘mushy peas’, steak and kidney pie, fish and chips and bangers and mash.

There are well-known British dishes for eating at each meal. Some of the most popular include:

Breakfast:

A full English country breakfast includes meat, eggs, pancakes or toast and side dishes like hash and bangers and mash. It’s hearty fare, the sort that is set on the table for dinner in most other cultures. It often includes leftovers from last night’s dinner, diced and fried together with seasonings and butter, sometimes called country hash.

Tea:

The tradition of mid-afternoon tea is one that’s been observed by the British for centuries. Among the most common dishes served at mid-afternoon tea are finger-foods like crumpets with jam and clotted cream, dainty watercress sandwiches and scones with raisins or dried fruits.

Sunday Dinner:

The Sunday dinner has a long tradition as being a family occasion – the one meal of the week at which all family members gathered. A roast joint of meat – beef, lamb, pork or chicken – is nearly a requirement, and it is served with a potato and vegetable, and very often accompanied by Yorkshire pudding.

Puddings and custards feature prominently in British cuisine. Baked, boiled or steamed, puddings are usually made with suet and breading, and studded with dried fruits and nuts. One of the most popular and delightful British desserts is the trifle, and there are nearly as many variations as there are cooks. The base is a sponge cake, often left over from another meal. Soaked in Madeira or port, it is layered in a dish with custard, jam, fruits and Jell-O and topped with whipped cream. The end result is a delicious mélange that is features all that is good about British cookery – plain, practical cooking that is meant to fill the belly and satisfy the taste buds.

French cuisine is the amazingly high standard to which all other native cuisines must live up to. The country of France is home of some of the finest cuisine in the world, and it is created by some of the finest master chefs in the world. The French people take excessive pride in cooking and knowing how to prepare a good meal. Cooking is an essential part of their culture, and it adds to one's usefulness if they are capable of preparing a good meal.

Each of the four regions of France has a characteristic of its food all its own. French food in general requires the use of lots of different types of sauces and gravies, but recipes for cuisine that originated in the northwestern region of France tend to require the use a lot of apple ingredients, milk and cream, and they tend to be heavily buttered making for an extremely rich (and sometimes rather heavy) meal. Southeastern French cuisine is reminiscent of German food, heavy in lard and meat products such as pork sausage and sauerkraut.

On the other hand, southern French cuisine tends to be a lot more widely accepted; this is generally the type of French food that is served in traditional French restaurants. In the southeastern area of France, the cooking is a lot lighter in fat and substance. Cooks from the southeast of France tend to lean more toward the side of a light olive oil more than any other type of oil, and they rely heavily on herbs and tomatoes, as well as tomato-based products, in their culinary creations.

Cuisine Nouvelle is a more contemporary form of French cuisine that developed in the late 1970s, the offspring of traditional French cuisine. This is the most common type of French food, served in French restaurants. Cuisine Nouvelle can generally be characterized by shorter cooking times, smaller food portions, and more festive, decorative plate presentations. Many French restaurant cuisines can be classified as Cuisine Nouvelle, but the more traditional French restaurant cuisine would be classified as Cuisine du Terroir, a more general form of French cooking than Cuisine Nouvelle. Cuisine du Terroir is an attempt to return to the more indigenous forms of French cooking, especially with reference to regional differences between the north and south, or different areas such as the Loire Valley, Catalonia, and Rousillon. These are all areas famous for their specific specialty of French cuisine. As time has progressed, the difference between a white wine from the Loire Valley and a wine from another area has slowly diminished, and the Cuisine du Terroir approach to French cooking focuses on establishing special characteristics between regions such as this.

As part of their culture, the French incorporate wine into nearly every meal, whether it is simply as a refreshment or part of the recipe for the meal itself. Even today, it is a part of traditional French culture to have at least one glass of wine on a daily basis.
