Living Will

I plan on doing a more official will and testament at some point, but in the mean time, I will let this blog entry serve as my living will. All of my assets I bequeath to my wife. If my wife is no longer alive and if neither of my children are eighteen, my sister-in-law Kerry Oji will take stewardship of my assets and children. If my wife is no longer alive, my sister-in-law is no longer alive, and neither of my children are eighteen, my sister Becky Lansen will take stewardship of my assets and children. Once my youngest child is eighteen, my children will evenly inherit the remainder of my assets.

If I find myself in a vegetative state and on life support, I ask not to be kept alive artificially.

When I die, I wish to be cremated and have my ashes spread along with my wife's remains.

If I die and turn into a zombie, I wish to be buried alive in my undead state, so that when a cure is found, I can be brought back to life mostly intact.

If I'm accidentally cryogenically frozen, I wish to have my assets put in an interest bearing savings account, so that when I'm reanimated in the future, I'll have a nice nest egg, so I won't be forced to work the mines on Mars.

If the technology exists to upload my consciousness to the internet like Johnny Depp in Transcendence, I want that.

My Dad is the original Star Trek Stud. He was a hardcore fan of Star Trek (The Original Series) back in college. We discovered Star Trek The Next Generation together, and watched every episode together. These days, he isn't as big a Trekkie as me, but I was able to coerce him into getting dressed up for Wizard Con in Sacramento. Here we are flanking the Shat...sorry ladies, these Studs are spoken for!

Alex Smith to the Chiefs for a 2013 2nd Round Pick (33rd overall) and possible 2014 pick. I'm a big Alex fan, and I'm sad to see him go, but I'm happy he will be starting somewhere new. Andy Reid should have him playing well in the AFC West.

Buster Posey is the 2012 NL MVP

My favorite baseball player capped off a historic comeback season with the NL's most prestigious award.

Buster Posey is the quintessential all American baseball player. Even the name Buster Posey sounds like a baseball player's name. Buster is the face of the San Francisco Giants. He's led his team to 2 World Series victories since his rookie season in 2010.

Last year (the only year the Giants didn't win the World Series in the last 3 years), Buster suffered a broken leg in a home plate collision with Florida Marlins Scott Cousins. The injury looked like it could be career threatening for the young catcher, but this season he came back stronger than ever.

His resilience, his poise in clutch situations, and his amazing ability is what makes Buster my favorite baseball player. As long as he stays a San Francisco Giant, I'll be a fan!

World Series Champions

Last night the San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers 4 games to zero in the World Series. I should be elated since they're my team, but my joy is tainted with guilt.

I feel guilty that I didn't believe they could do it. I doubted them most of the regular season, and especially in the post season. It wasn't so much that I viewed them as an under dogs, it was just that after watching them in every single regular season game last year, I didn't think the team could possibly string together all of the necessary wins to accomplish what they did.

Next year they will most likely lose a lot of the good players that got them the win to free agency. If some how they are able to keep the team together, my faith will be renewed for next year. Go Giants!

Bad Day for SF Sports

Yesterday was a very bad day for San Francisco sports. The 49er's lost to the New York Giants 3-26 and the SF Giants lost to the St Louis Cardinals 4-6 in Game 1 of the NLCS.

Having both of your favorite teams lose two important Home games is depressing. Hopefully they bounce back this week! Go SF Giants! Go Niners!

The San Francisco Giants just pulled off a 3 game sweep against the Reds in Cincinnati after being down 0-2 in the series! Buster Posey is MVP of the series for hitting a Grand Slam which would prove to be just enough runs to win the game 6-4! GO GIANTS!

Early in the MLB regular season I had given up hope that the SF Giants would win the NL West, at the time, the Dodgers seemed like the clear favorite. I was wrong. Now the Giants are playing the Reds in the Division series and I've again lost faith that they will make it to the National League Championship series. Hopefully I'm wrong again.

In the NFL, I do have faith that the 49er's will win the NL West. I'm also pretty confident that they can win the Super Bowl this year! GO NINERS!

The 49er's selection for the #1 pick overall in the 2005 NFL Draft has been the most polarizing event in 49er History.

Alex Smith has been the scapegoat for the team in good times and in bad (mostly in bad). Alex Smith "Haters" believe the team wins in-spite of Alex, and loses because of him. This blog post is in defense of Alex.

"Pro-Alex" fans like myself point to the adversity he has overcome, such as: 4 different Head Coaches in 8 years. 7 Offensive Coordinators in 8 years. Losing a season to injury, and losing starting jobs to performance. Overall, an inconsistent period of development.

Looking at his career statistics, you can see that he has only played 2 full seasons in his 8 years. He also lost a season to injury, so really his career has only been 7 years. If you combine his partial seasons you get another 2 full seasons. So in 8 years he has really only played 4 seasons. In those 8 years, almost every passing statistic has improved year over year. The improvements haven't been huge, but they have been consistent and notable from year to year.

Right now, the 49er's can count on him for about 200 yards passing a game with 1 TD and no turnovers. These aren't numbers that will win a football game on their own, but they also won't lose a football game. The strengths of the 49er's are running the football, Defense, and Special Teams. Alex doesn't need to win games for the team, he just needs to keep the offense on the field (to give the Defense a rest), and not give up the football. This was the winning formula last year.

To improve his game, I'd like to see him take more shots down field, but not at the expense of the winning formula. I expect that based off of his past gradual improvement, the team will see larger gains in his performance this year. So far this season his improvement has been marginal, but I trust that once he creates some chemistry with his new receivers, he'll be the future of the franchise. GO NINERS!!!

Top 10 Best Bands Ever

I like making lists. Over the years I've made a lot of Top 10 lists. Sometimes they change, sometimes they stay the same. Over the years my music tastes haven't changed much. The Top 10 you see below have pretty much had the same bands, however the order of them may have shifted from time to time. The most recent change has moved Led Zeppelin to #2 to make room for "Weird" Al.

I think it's a fairly common phenomena that a person's music selections freeze at some point. My freezing point was early 2000. I don't think I've really added any new artists into my music repertoire since that time. I'm old and set in my ways.

Here is the latest map of the new 49er stadium sales progress. The red dot represents my 2 seats. I'm on the 10 yard line, 28 rows up from the field, 8 seats from the $20k club seats, on the home side. These are the best seats you can get for less than $20k! Amazeballs!

I've recently acquired the entire "Weird" Al catalog. How I went this long in my life without it I'm not sure. I've listened to it every day this week, and it's been by far one of the most enjoyable weeks of work to date.

I've said it many times on my blog now, but I'll say it again..."Weird" Al Yankovic is the greatest entertainer of all time! Amazeballs!

We are now a Ford family. My wife and I traded in our old cars (1991 Lexus LS400 and 2003 Chevy Avalanche) for a new 2012 Ford Fusion and a certified used 2011 Ford Explorer. The images below while not the actual vehicles represent the trim and color we purchased. They are both nice looking cars with all the bells and whistles. Ford is built tough and Star Trek Stud approved! Amazeballs!

New 49er Stadium Sales Update

Listed below is a chart that indicates what sections are sold out at the new 49er Stadium. All current season ticket-holders have renewed at this point. Non-season ticket-holder wait-listers are now being sold to. It will be interesting to see if the wait-listers go through the remainder of the inventory or if there will be unsold seats. I got my 2 seats on Monday at the end of the season ticket-holder sales period. They are great seats!

Good Reality TV...

This may sound like an oxymoron, and usually I would agree, but every once in a while a decent reality show will be produced. Right now there are 2 reality shows that I deem worthy of my time. HBO's Hard Knocks and SyFy's Face Off.

Preseason NFL Football only partially satisfies my pigskin cravings. Hard Knocks also works as a sort of methadone for my gridiron addiction. Combined, the Preseason and Hard Knocks makes the anticipation of the 2013 NFL season tolerable.

Hard Knocks is a behind the scenes look of a NFL team leading up to the regular season. This year the show is following the Miami Dolphins. It's shot like a documentary series, but to me it still comes off as reality TV. Some what staged, with some forced drama for the camera, but also some pretty interesting stuff. If I was a Miami Dolphins fan I'd relish in the opportunity to get an intimate look at my favorite team. I'm not a Miami Dolphins fan, but I am a fan of football, and it's fascinating to see the preparations that go into fielding an NFL team.

As someone who spends his professional career working on a computer developing software, I sometimes long to work in a more creative field where I use my hands for something other than to interface with a keyboard. The Syfy Channel's Face Off is my escape into what it would be like if I was an artist working in the special effects industry. My wife and I both enjoy marveling at the contestant's creativity and artistic talent. The show is on it's 3rd season, and I hope it enjoys a long run because it's yet to disappoint.
