So yesterday I went out to my local Best Buy and picked up a copy of Mario Kart Wii for my Nintendo Wii. Like all Nintendo consoles, it seems my game library is dominated primarily by Nintendo developed titles (Zelda, Mario, Smash Brothers). So it just sort of makes sense that I'd go out and get the latest Mario Kart game.

Now, I have a confession to make. In all of the previous Nintendo consoles I've owned (NES, N64, GC, GBA, DS) I've never owned a Kart game (was there even one for the NES?). Sure I've played them from time to time at parties or at a friend's house, but I've never had enough time to really become proficient at the series.

This also means I don't come to the game with a favorite in the series to compare it to, and can't look at the game and say "Well, the driving physics aren't quite as good as they were on the N64 version, and the item management really needs to go back to the way it was in the DS title..." So I'm basically as end-user as it gets when it comes to Mario Kart Wii. So with that in mind, here are my thoughts after a few hours with the game yesterday...

<pubDateParsed>2008-05-05T14:38:26</pubDateParsed>
Mario Kart Wii: Day 1 Impressions

Central publishing for games is one of the scourges of the consumer market. When a major publisher, like EA releases a game that recieves critical review, but sells poorly, they cancel the series because they are a major corporation and they have huge upkeep costs and demand huge profits. When an indie game sells poorly, but recieves great reviews, the franchise of games will often continue, which results in a continuation of a franchise into a wonderful series of masterpieces...

<pubDateParsed>2008-05-04T20:09:59</pubDateParsed>
On Why Central Publishing For Games Is Bad

Today I'm gonna write a review of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. It's an awesome game, really, with well over 25 hours (wonder why I didn't post yesterday) of small-time sub-plot scrabbling around as far as I've gotten. No "xp" system either, like Morrowind, so it plays realistically versus most other RPG's. Its graphics are great (360 version), and it plays quickly and smoothly. Also, it has good challenges (optional and not), which allow the player to play on any difficulty and still be rewarde...

<pubDateParsed>2008-05-01T18:57:31</pubDateParsed>
Game Review- The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Technically Abandonware is a legal grey area, but how is it morally? Just type in your CE serial # (visit here to have Stardock email your serial #) into MyColors.
