You can win hardest level of difficulty with the most stacked odds by just doing trades and building 2 galactic projects (translators and bazaar). I don't understand why AI trades their planets for a few techs- planets should be traded for planets only or huge amounts of fleet, techs and money. As of now you can get PQ 20 planet for a few techs just because it is underpopulated.

In ToA the overall disaster is also exacerbated by t...

<pubDateParsed>2008-07-23T17:10:07</pubDateParsed>
Diplomacy is broken

Hey! I'm sorry about my previous post, I wrote a bunch of stuff and it dint seem to appear. Anyways, i got the Gold Edition of this game a week or two ago, and liked it so much i decided to get Twilight. I mainly play on normal, once or twice I've done Challenging but both times lost. I can't accomplish anything other than a Cultural or an Alliance victory. Cultural victories are hard for me, still. I play on a Huge galaxy map with everything abundant and rese...

<pubDateParsed>2008-07-23T06:47:56</pubDateParsed>
Military & Economy in ToA

OK, I'm sure this has been discussed before -- but I wasn't around then, so I'm hoping someone will indulge me...

So far I've only been playing the GC2 campaign -- no DA, no sandbox games. Economy or Research? In bonus areas of course. In TA it seems to me that research is a little harder, in DA I could reach quite easily the end of the tree for a technological victory. Here it is a little harder. The problem is, that in order to have a good research, you need several 20 or so planets with lots of labs in them, and this of course require a lot of economy. What are your suggestions?

<pubDateParsed>2008-07-20T10:26:54</pubDateParsed>
Economy vs Research

As this post would be otherwise prohibitively long I amsplitting it into several pieces. Is there a way to tell what prerequisites there are to get different ships? In the tech tree a tech will list which new ship design will be unlocked when that tech is researched but sometimes it will then say more research is required but won't tell you which technologies are needed for each ship design. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

<pubDateParsed>2008-07-07T01:06:54</pubDateParsed>
GC2 - Dread Lords

Dear Penthouse,

I never thought this could happen to me. When i play the yor i can build all my ships quickly and even if i cant put all my planets to work quickly i can still colonize a lot of worlds. The difficulty is crippling, with 6 opponents, large map. I settled a few normal worlds near Earth and a few turns later I notice a Purple star with a class 26 or so planet. I scramble to settle the planet, which has a precursor library (yay! 700% to research) and an approval bonus tile.

I am thinking, should I just fill this entire planet up with research? Why ever take the population over 8b? Since population doesn't effect research, I could...

<pubDateParsed>2008-06-26T21:21:37</pubDateParsed>
What would you do with a class 26 planet?

Whats the best strategy for this mission? Any keys to success? The usual strategies (generally the proverbial 4x) do not seem to work to well....

First of all, the objective is kind of vague... how can a "lasting peace" by forging alliances be achieved?

Secondly, the economy. You have 12000 credits at the start, but a minuscule population (1m out of 12m on the home planet), so building up an economy is very hard. At my first attempt I noticed too late that I was overspending way too much ...

<pubDateParsed>2008-06-25T19:07:25</pubDateParsed>
Dread Lords Campaign - Mission "Exploitation"
