Now Cable-Free

After months (OK, years) of fuming at my cable bill, asking myself why I'm paying $92 a month for cable TV (with NO premium channels) when I hardly watch anything but the Science Channel & NatGeo anymore, I finally broke out of my inertia & pulled the plug.

Fortunately, digital antennas have improved to the point that OTA HD channel reception is as good as cable or dish, at least here.

We have 4 TV's in the house (2 of which were old CRT behemoths until earlier ...

Dr. Michael Behe’s example of Mt. Rushmore was particularly humorous. All he did was shift the emphasis to man’s enhancements and use that as some kind of useful example. The question should have been how the mountain got there to be carved by man … not what man did afterwards? Piss pour example if you ask me and yet these guys see “Mt. Rushmore’s” in most cellular activity, well wasn’t that a result of man … not anything more intelligent, hahaha...

Trivial Avengers closing scene question

Just saw The Avengers in the English version original at a cinema in Berlin -- quite enjoyable, methinks. In the final shot before the credits roll, we see the Stark building, heavily damaged, so that the STARK logo is blasted away, leaving only an A and a bunch of wiring and damaged concrete. I've not done the Friday 5 thing before so can't tell if I'm doing it correctly or not, but regardless, I'm going to put up a chance for others to tell me what their favorite classic films are. You can list 5, or 10, or 1 or 3, I don't really care what number you want to list. I consider myself a cineast, I love good films, especially bizarre ones and ones that can be considered part of the sci-fi genre, even if that is fairly loosly taken. I like everything from well-established artists (Kubrick, Kurosawa, Tarkovski, Fassbinder, Van Trier, etc.) to weirdo fringe stuff you can only see at film festivals (which we have a lot of here in Berlin).

At the college where I teach ethics, I run a monthly "Philosophy and Science Fiction" evening, in which a meaty sci-fi film...

What television series would you recommend to someone to start from scratch?

For instance, I’ve never watched Lost but I don’t think I could handle 7+ years or whatever it was of shows mainly because I heard the show ended up like X-Files where the creators were kind of winging it.

Any suggestions?

Great low budget sci-fi serie

Ironclad have made the great game called soase with a budget who is 1/10th of big game studio...

Today, i have enjoy the part one of a sci-fi series pilot made with a budget of 15000$ ... almost nothing when compare to million $$$ budget of big studio...

I was expecting a bunch of crap... but once downloaded, i was surprised of the quality... music is good, actor are good, CGI are good ( just some strange animation during the space suit walk )...

So I watched the most recent Star Wars: The Clone Wars (“Crisis on Naboo”) and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it enough that I decided to go over to TheForce.Net and see about conversing with others about it. Oh god. What a mistake.

Brilliant sci-fi shows i missed somehow

So for the last year and so i used to watch few sci-fi shows, but all of them with exception of Fringe ended up cancelled. Some of them i did not considered to be that great (V 2009, SGU), so i do not regret it that much, although both shows had potential and i would continue to watch them if they kept making them. Flash Forward on other hand, i was really pissed to see that one to be canned, really like that show. Some people might abject, it had logical fallacies, the level of acting was low, ...

Anyone seen the movie? Just found out about it, i am about halfway reading the book, so i wonder how the movie compares... i suppose the sensible choice would be to finish the book and then watch the movie anyway, but it will be tough to resist now.

BTW today i finally listened to that Beatles song, never heard it before, as its not as famous as Let it Be or Yesterday, and have to say, its brilliant...
