Choreographer Carrie Ahern reprises seNSATE, her acclaimed dance installation, at The Vaults (14 Wall Street) for six Swing Space performances, beginning this Saturday at 8pm.

Premiered at the Brooklyn Lyceum in November 2009, Ahern's seNSATE runs for three hours in a cyclical loop. Viewers may drop in and leave at any point during those times, and they will freely move around to follow the flow of action in various pockets of space beneath Wall Street.

Most shots were taken at Doug + Mike Starn's Big Bambú: You Can't, You Don't, and You Won't Stop installation in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden, Metropolitan Museum of Art. On view through October 31, weather permitting. Read about this exhibit here and here.

Picasso's exhilarating linoleum cuts, which finally made me skid to a halt, heart aflutter, as I tried to race through most of Picasso in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I'm going back and taking a much longer look at everything but, in particular, those exciting prints. Through August 15.

American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity. My guilty pleasure, only because I discovered that I love that drapey, delicately glittery, Isadora Duncan-ish Bohemian look (1900s) and could barely pull myself away from that particular room in the exhibit. Just call me a femme-inist!

Hipsters, Hustlers, and Handball Players: Leon Levinstein's New York Photographs, 1950-1980. Grit and wit. Levinstein's spontaneity inspires me:

In my photographs, I want to look at life--at the commonplace things as if I just turned a corner and ran into them for the first time. (Leon Levinstein, 1954)

At 11am EST today, I took this photo and submitted it to the New York Times's A Moment in Time project. It contains images of Mary of the wounded sacred heart; Yemaya, the Afro-Atlantic goddess of the sea; and endangered animals. Mindful of the oil spill tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico, I call this assemblage The Wounded Heart of Mother Earth.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in The Big Draw 2009 at New York's National Museum of the American Indian, a River to River Festival event co-sponsored by The Drawing Center. The program featured the Native Pride Dancers--led by Larry Yazzie (Diné)--who posed and performed dances as we drew.

While I did manage to work up a small pastel drawing, I spent most of my time trying to keep my multicolored fingers away from my white pants and taking lots and lots of photos. Here's a selection.

Untitled Corner will be performed again on July 10, 13 and 17 at 12:30pm and on July 8 and 15 at 7pm.

One Chase Manhattan Plaza faces Nassau Street, between Liberty and Cedar Streets. Take the 2/3/4/5 to Wall Street.

Admission is free. Chairs and other seating options are available, but come early.

NYC Dance Parade 2009

The Saturday weather held up and so did a lot of happy feet--club dancers, rollerskate dancers, Latin dancers, hula hoop aficionados, burlesque ladies, youth marching bands and more--for the 2009 NYC Dance Parade, all along the route from Broadway and 28th Street to Tompkins Square Park.
