FEAR GUILT, LOVE TRUTH

Toooooo many rappers have jacked this beat, and "Terminader Gold 60" was supposed to be my exit strategy for the mixtape/jacked beats songs. I could've resisted, and I chose not to.

It was 50/50 between the fact that seemingly several hundred people have asked me to, and because I got an early flight and didnt wanna sleep. So, I drove across town to my studio (which I hadn't had the urge to do recently) and I rapped.

I really liked Rick Ross' song at first listen, and still don't think anybody else did it much justice. I figured rather than drop a bunch of names, I should take the peaked interest and give you a piece of my mind.

I don't want to whine about my woes with a record label, I want progress. A heightened awareness is what I felt like bringing about, because I believe people ask me about my situation most frequently. I don't have the answers. I do know what's real, and that's my desire to move forward as professional rap artist.

I don't even have to know why things turned so sour, I just want my release to be signed off on...

About 5 inches of Snow hit the Middle Tennessee area this past weekend, leaving roads iced and schools closed. While stuck in his humble abode due to the inclement weather, Rap Monster SAINT ASSAULT RIFLE LITO took the time to record and release two new tracks. The 9 minutes and 11 seconds of recordings (9:11) were both covers of Neptunes productions.

Bad news for Starlito fans such as myself is that he's going on tour at the end of this month, in a candid interview (set up via Twitter) he shared that he will take a break from recording to "rest my brain and restore some order to my sleeping habits. I need to. It keeps me from tending to business." Starlito said.

I guess that's understandable, but we are also encouraged to "look forward to Starlito's Way 3:Life Insurance" he said, in reference to his forthcoming Street Album slated for a March 13th release.

He also says, "This entire buildup, some say its an overload, with all the recent tapes was about Starlito's Way 3. Starlito's Way 2 was my baby (released on his 23rd birhtday, 12/15/07) . I really was recording those songs and going to bed at night not knowing if i'd make it through another day. And I mean that on like some real-life s***. I made what I would consider a classic (see STARLITO'S WAY 2 & NY TIMES cover story). To follow that, as you can see, took me almost 3 years. So what I do. Give you more than enough to hold you over. (he also dropped 3 other tapes between Starlito's Way 2 and the tapes I mentioned above.) Then I gave you a couple of those tapes in the form of albums. The whole 'Love series'. Cause I got love for this. And I know that there are people that love me for what I do. This is my release and my livelihood. Sort of a double-edged sword. The crazy part is that I didn't start recording on 3 (SW3) until my partner Gold 3 passed away. I took a break from it to get in and try to fulfill my contractual and label commitment. I got back in on it real heavy around my birthday Just a month and half ago. I did it in i'd say 2-3 weeks of recording. I think it's just about ready for the world. But I still don't know if the world is ready for me and my message. The best example of 'my message' is in that opening to the first song on I still love you. I said 'Elevate your mind, think outside the box'. That's what i'm on. Everything else is just experience or something I know well enough to articulate. Good Music, to me, can potentially make you laugh, think, and/or cry. I was once told you should do those three things everyday. I don't, but I try to sow that in to my music."

He also mentioned that "Starlito's Way 3 will be available via Grind Hard Online's new Store launching with the album"

I'VE DECIDED TO CALL THE 3rd INSTALLMENT in the "Starlito's Way" trilogy "LIFE INSURANCE".

Like almost all my album titles, it has a double meaning. First, and obviously, because rap has become a vessel and a means for me to secure the well being of myself and my loved ones. Secondly, because I hope to cause an awakening on the street level, for the young soul that's lost or in search of a better tommorrow but consumed with today. When you're in the streets there are not many guidlines and often times even less guidance. I think as much as we debate health care as a societal issue, we need to press the issue of us young people living this fast life getting LIFE INSURANCE. There is no scarier thought than that of leaving your loved ones with an extra burden other than grief, in the event of an untimely demise. As a scholar, a gangster, a rapper, and a real person, I'm just reaching and hoping that people consume the music for more than just words that rhyme. I beg of you to scroll through the last two SW'S from my catalog. I'm in the same world as you all.

I watched it over, and over, and over again. Honestly, it is the only part of the awards I watched. I have been thinking since 7 a.m., WHAT IF IT WERE THE OTHER WAY AROUND? BEYONCE WINS, AND EMINEM STORMS THE STAGE TO SAY THAT TAYLOR SWIFT SHOULD HAVE WON.

I think everyone, well MIDDLE AMERICA, would've giggled, gotten over it, and probably argued Taylor Swift's case. Awards, and especially award shows don't really make that much sense to me. 2 of the last 3 awards I've won for my music were not even presented (2008 OZONE, 2009 SEA). Once because of a fight between two rappers, and another time because all efforts were being made to accomodate a rapper from abroad (Industry ass-kissing, gotta love that <---SARCASM). Granted, neither of those were the VMAs, but the only thing I saw wrong was the means by which Mr. West went about it. His award show antics/tirades are expected at this point, but he actually TOOK the mic. I'm sorry, but that is HILARIOUS!!!

ICING ON THE CAKE: Nashville's own newspaper, THE TENNESSEAN, (FAMOUS FOR MAKING ME ELIGIBLE FOR BET'S American Gangster SERIES, with a November 2007 cover story, cites Kanye as having a real issue with the city of Nashville. WOW!

I think he had an opinion. MTV further validated his opinion by awarding Beyonce with video of the year, later in the evening. Which speaks to the award show BS, how can it not be FEMALE video of the year if it is the video of the year?

I'm in the lab, and I'm feeling good about this music stuff. Maybe it's because Basketball is pretty meaningless right now. I would like to applaud this year's MVP, Lebron James. (even his puppet was cooler than Kobe's in the Nike Commercial).

I'm actually kind of sad, distraught even, over the Cavs untimely exit from the NBA Playoffs. I thought writing about it would make me feel better. I was wrong. Reflecting is actually sort of painful. Especially considering that Kobe is still in the Playoffs. I'm not hating, just applauding good marketing and forward thinking from NIKE. I think Nike was preparing to establish Lebron's shoe as brand comparable to the Air Jordan's. Although it took an extra few years for me to actually like the shoe (and actually purchase a pair), it was the coolest thing Nike had since the Air Penny's. (I got the All Black Nike Zoom Lebron 6, by the way).

I say forward thinking because obviously Nike aimed to promote LBJ. Ok, maybe I'm just being partial, or maybe it's because his puppet was more like my ideal self (PSY). [see Video game playing, Bentley driving, powder everywhere (<--Joke, HA!), and Ninety Million Dollars (90) from the company behind the commercial].

Kobe was the coolest when he was playing in Air Jordan's (circa 2003, *T.I.'s "The King's Back" intro plays loud in my head, 'And the Phoenix arose from the ashes...'). Then came Lebron James. Anyways, I'm a Lebron fan to the heart, but I will for the time be riding with the Magic. Because, I want Kobe to be stuck with his three rings from the commercial. Yeah just like that, and in his last All Star he should wear number 20 and apologize at halftime for changing his number if he were even vaguely ego trippin' on some, "...I'm better than Mr. Michael Jeffrey, i mean your airness,sir" BS! PICTURE IT: SHAQ would be standing (4 rings on his hand) with Lebron, Myself (LITO), and none other than Ric Flair as we would be the new four hoursome. Sorry Arn.

I was in Atlanta for that All Star Game, and I just remember hearing 50 Cent's new "Get Rich or Die Trying" album everywhere I went. It's crazy how music connects you to events and memories. I dream of my music tying the loose ends of someone's brains together to remember something (pleasant). Well, aside from the fact that I can recall doing all sorts of CRAZY $#!T while listening to certain music (even that CD), i'd say that preserves music as an ARTform.

That was a song by AZ featuring Nas that I used to listen to all the time. Just like "Brooklyn's Finest" wit BIG and Jay-Z some songs sound like they were supposed to happen as they were. I just wonder if they were up at 5 a.m. doing them. I hadn't given so much thought to collaborations other than ones I enjoy. But I have to say, I'm damn near having fun right now. I haven't had a shirt on for very much of the day, which is one of the most random things I could think to type, but it is 5:49 and I am satisfied with the body of work I produced for the day. Funny thing is, that satisfaction will go away probably before I find the nearest pillow. I am happy in my music, even in a somber song there is the joy in being expressive. I think the music business takes away from that, but it's too late in the game to try and change the rules. I think I show my hand by being this honest, but then again I am my own selling point. The thing that I am the best at in the entire world is: BEING ME. I think my latest CD is reflective of that, and I'm digging the positive feedback. I call my new project ("I Love You, Too") audio art. Although it is a "mixtape", I have decided to focus my efforts in a more direct path. When I released "Starlito's Way 2" (SEA Album of the Year) I was reaching. Obviously, people were willing to accept my attempt at something beyond the music. It was as much a movie as an album, just the same as this project is something to be observed and appreciated (hence audio art). As the market suffers, and quantity outweighs quality in the rap world, I want to be lyrical. I was flattered at a compliment I received from one of my comrades. He said, "It's cold how your punchlines/metaphors coincide with you and your life." I thought this was crazy coming from another artist but then I started to realize how much of rap has become a proverbial treadmill. Trends seem to circulate so fast and then become overdone. I'm willing to accept that I might lose some loyalists with my renewed focus on the stories, and the wordplay, and the realities within. The reason I can accept that is because I am comfortable with myself, and my truths. I've done ALOT of stupid stuff in my lifetime, some of which gets glamourized in the music, but at some point none of that will matter. I've also grown to know that there is no force greater than Love. Hardcore "All Star" fans might be delighted to know that this isn't 'love making music' its a project that speaks on my Love for making music. I'm aware that people relate to the things that I say, both positive and negative. I'm also aware that I won't please everyone no matter what I do, so with that being said I'M DOING ME. I'm 20 something and stuck right in between being a full-time intellectual and a statistic. I am both sinner and saint. If I made 'happy-go-lucky' music, I'd be fake, just like to pretend like I don't have serious feelings about serious things would be fake. I really do LOVE what I do. I'm growing as an artist, and I just want you all to witness the growth. If cameras followed me all day, perhaps the world would have a better appreciation for how real and detailed my music articulates MY LIFE. But then again, if cameras followed me all day, I'd probably be in jail. RANDOM.

So my single is crazy!!! Literally, "Crazy" featuring Lil' Wayne & Yo Gotti is the first single from "Cash Money Laundering". I am recording at almost the speed of sound right now, and I will continue to release songs periodically to pacify my hardcore fans until the masses awaken. So I should have posted this like a week ago...my bad.

So there was some big commotion in my city over a white guy and a black guy arguing. For the record I'm voting for "THAT ONE".

Personally, I'm not in to the mudslinging of modern politics. I wish people would come to there decisions on their own rather than just because it's popular or the trend amongst the company you keep. About 80 % of the homes in my neighborhood have McCain posters on the lawn, and in a fit of rage I almost took them all down. Not simply in opposition of his platform, but because I participated in a poll and in calling a number of random Tennessee residents I found that many of them were in direct support of the McCain/Palin ticket but did not favor their policies. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

Well early voting has started, so get your ass up.

Saturday night following the Southern Heritage Classic I partied with my childhood idol, Penny Hardaway. Between Level 2, The Recording Studio, The Road, The Rose, The Patron, The Purple Stuff, and the other purple stuff Memphis was a blur this weekend. I do know TSU is 3-0, Vanderbilt is 3-0, The Titans are 2-0, and i'm 2-0 in my Fantasy Football League. I'm just about finished with "CASH MONEY LAUNDERING" as I had scrapped about half of the original records I had for it. 1 video has been finished, and 1 more is in production along with one for a self titled "Grind Hard" Album. Stay tuned with me and Stay focused as I don't see any limitations or barriers. My pockets aren't nervous, so my 'competition' (LOL) should be.

13 hour school daze...

"It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you..."

Sorry that I haven't been blogging...I haven't been on the road quite as much, which is my most comfortable sanctuary to write. I'm back and I will have a 3.5 or higher (pray for me). Maybe I should be taking notes instead of blogging but whose paying attention with 200+ students. I'm staying awake the best way I know how. My books are heavy (and unreasonably priced), my days are long (I'm a night owl), and I'm trying to gain 15 pounds. I know that last one had nothing to do with anything else, but it should let you know how torn I am between writing to you and listening to my professor. 3 hour lectureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (sorry I dozed off). I'm just like you!!! (only different).

My teacher is playing with a KORG Triton keyboard. That's the same keyboard Fate Eastwood used to make every track on my early 2004 release "Vol. 3 It's about Business". I must say Fate revolutionized "my sound" and also gave me a clearer vision for how to efficiently operate my own work environment. [SIDEBAR:Fate did my artwork on that mixtape also]

The irony is that I dropped out of college the day that CD released. I failed every course I was taking that semester, but I did sell tens of thousands (10,000+) of discs, made a nice sum of money, and secured an independent deal with Yo Gotti's Inevitable Ent. Certain things college can't compensate for and that was the last 3 plus years.

Conversely, I've sinced constructed 2 studio set-ups of my own, launched several active lucrative web operations, and independently toured for the last 3 calendars. The money has come and gone just like any other hustle, and that's where I decided to transform from hustle to career. I'd rather admit that I don't know everything, submit my mind to learning, and come out better than I went in. Did you know that Yamaha popularized MIDI in 1983 with the "DX7"?
