Opinions? I think it looks superb, and it does seem to be the case that everything that made the first film so damn good is again in evidence here, John Favreau really seems to have hit his stride as a director of full-on extravaganzas with the Iron Man 2 movie, and Robert Downey Jr is once again a joy to watch as Tony Stark.

Mickey Rourke looks better each time I seem in this as Whiplash. I had my reservations about his casting when it was first announced, but he looks perfect in this trailer. There’s something cold and sinister about him that’s just magical.

The big deal for many fans though will be seeing War Machine in action, and while there’s not a great deal of war machine footage in this trailer, there’s enough to get us frothing at the mouth. Iron Man 2, featuring the awesome AC/DC soundtrack (which is available now and well worth a purchase), looks set to be the favourite comic book movie of 2010. Can;t wait to bring you a review of this

The new trailer for the Prince of Persia movie is online now, and it does look like the adaptation of the famous video games title is going to be a ton of fun, but will it have any worth beyond the superficial set pieces?

There are some people claiming that it will be this year’s Pirates of the Caribbean, which it may well appropriately fill the void for until Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides arrives in cinemas.

The main issue that a lot of people seem to have thus far with the Disney Prince of Persia film is the performance of lead actor Jake Gyllenhall, which comes across as extremely flat in the trailers. Nevertheless, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time looks set to be a great popcorn experience. How well it will fare beyond the seasonal glut is anyone’s guess though…

Okay. Right then.

How the hell can you turn the Space Invaders video game into a movie which won;t just annoy the heck out of people? There’s no plot other than ‘Aliens and spaceships get blown up and some buildings take a beating.’ Come on, even Independence Day had more of a plot than that.

I guess one of the only ways this could be pulled off would be to set it in one of those post-apocalyptic settings that Hollywood is so find of right now. Then again, if the film was helmed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig (the guys behind the awesome SF/vampire flick DAYBREAKERS), then maybe it would have a chance.

Seriously though, a movie calling itself SPACE INVADERS is only going to be your average alien invasion flick with the title slapped on it for brand familiarity. Sure, there will be some set pieces that resemble the classic game, but, honestly, what’s the point?

The new film is said to be a return to the John Byrne era of Superman, which I’ll believe when I see it, but bodes well for the film if it’s true. Goyer, the man behind a huge number of genre movies, has been crafting a script that features Braniac as the villain.

After so many false starts and the boring, endless tedium of Superman Returns, are we finally going to get a Superman movie that does the name proud? Come on, it’s been a while since Superman 2, after all. Actually, speaking of DC Comics related films, whatever happened to that Justice League film that was supposed to have been shot in November 2008? I remember there was talk of WB canning their comics projects until they could all be done like The Dark Knight, but that would be a really, really bad idea for anything but Batman.

Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassin’s Ball is the straight-to-DVD sequel (actually it’s a prequel, but is being marketed as a sequel) to the big screen flick that starred Alecia Keys, Andy garcia, Ben Affleck and more.

The star power is considerably less this time out (erm… Vinnie Jones? Seriously?), but there are appearances from Tom Berenger, Ernie Hudson and the delectable Autumn Reeser which stop the flick descending into bargain basement territory.

The story is rather different to the first film, but it does feature more groups of mad assassins, dubious physics and extreme violence, just like the first film did.

While the budget was way lower for this straight to DVD movie than the big screen entry, the money limitations don’t show that much thanks to some creative cinematography. It’s a film that will please fans of that first film, but it ain’t going to have people crying out for a third film really. A fun watch, and a great addendum to that first film.

The new Tim Burton Alice In Wonderland movie is upon us, and fans of his work are getting suitably excited. However, is Burton playing it too safe now? After films like The Corpse Bride and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, is Burton treading water as a director? Plus, how is this latest film going to do at the box office?

Sure, it has Johnny Depp in it and (as ever) Helena Bonham Carter alongside a great cast and some incredible visuals, but is this a case of Burton playing it safe? I do have to wonder after past glories such as Ed Wood and The Nightmare Before Christmas that with Alice In Wonderland Burton has become a little stuck in a rut of the audience expecting one sort of thing from him now.

This is a shame, as a director with such creative scope should be able to stretch himself beyond the comfort zone now and again. I could be wrong of course, and this latest extravaganza may be altogether something truly special. Here’s hoping.

The Alice In Wonderland movie looks set to be a big hit with his core fans, but whether or not the masses will enjoy his twisted vision of Wonderland too is yet to be seen. Hopefully it will have us all grinning like a certain cat.

One of Burton’s forthcoming projects is an adaptation of the gothic vampire soap opera Dark Shadows, which, while I’, sure it will carry his particular visual flair, may also offer something a little weightier than these CG fests.

One of the most interesting happenings of late has been the sale of the rights to the TERMINATOR franchise. After the poor response that TERMINATOR SALVATION got, it was deemed to be time to let someone else have a go at continuing the story of John Connor and his freedom fighters in their struggle against SkyNet and the Terminators.

The rights were auctioned off, and a rather vicious bidding war was staged in which the ultimate victor was Pacifor, to whom Halcyon productions (the previous home of the franchise) owed a stack of cash. Now, Pacifor is looking to sell off the rights to one or two of the other bidders (Sony and Lionsgate).

An interesting piece of news is that William Wisher, who worked on the screenplays of the first two Terminator films (i.e. the good ones), is currently working on the scripts for Terminator 5 and Terminator 6. The interesting thing is, these scripts are said to be bringing back Kyle Reece and Sarah Connor, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character briefly in one of the two films, and are set to end the franchise completely.

To me, that is exactly what the franchise needs to regain some ground and some respect from moviegoers and die-hard Terminator movie fans. If a definite end was in sight, then there would be interest in seeing just how the characters get there, and how the war with Skynet finally ends.

Wisher’s scripts apparently mention ’shape shifting cyborgs’, and while initial reactions to the mention of shape shifters has made many people think of the Transformers movies, I think that the approach may be closer to the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day rather than the massive robots we saw in Terminator Salvation.

One way or another, there are strange things afoot with the terminator franchise, and it watching how events unfold surrounding the making of these new films may well be just as interesting as the flicks themselves. After all, they did say they’d be back…

At long last it has been confirmed that Christopher Nolan is working on a new Batman movie.  Details are scarce thus far, but WB have said he is eager not to just repeat past glories. A  slew of other DC character movies are about to be announced too, including a Woner Woman live  action movie (finally) and possibly the Flash, plus more.

Hughes Brothers Developing Two Akira Movies

The Hughes brothers, the men behind the recent post-apocalyptic hit The Book Of Eli, are now on  board to bring the legendary manga AKIRA to the big screen. This has been mooted for years on  end, but the project is now finally moving forward after Warners bought the rights to the story  a while back. The film adaptation of Akira is to be split into two movies, each covering three  books of the manga. How close these films will be to the iconic Akira animated movie is yet to  be seen.

In keeping with pretty much anything else with special effects in it these days, the hotly  anticipated Spider-man reboot movie is to be released in 3D. For once, here’s an opportunity to  do something spectacular with the 3D gimmick. The  iconic actress is said to be in final talks to secure the role opposite Johnny Depp. This is a  great boost for a somewhat pointless sequel, which is said to see jack Sparrow off after the  Fountain of Youth.

Escape From New York Remake Back On

The remake of the classic John Carpenter flick ‘Escape From New York’, which starred Kurt  Russell as Snake Plissken, is back to being an ongoing concern. While nobody really wants the  film to be remade (wounds are still sore from that godawful 1990s sequel), interest is mounting  in who will be playing Snake in the new film. Sam Worthington? Probably, as he seems to be in  everything else lately. Either him or Gerard Butler.

SAW to end with SAW: ENDGAME

The long-running horror franchise of the SAW movies is to end at last with the seventh film, according to screenwriter Patrick Melton. The decision has apparently made due to the disappointing box office of SAW VI. The series will thus end with SAW VII, which has just started shooting.
