As part of the Central Avenue reconstruction project through Northeast Minneapolis, the City of Minneapolis commissioned Foster Willey Jr. to create a number of stelae commemorating the history of the area. This stelae, found near the intersection of 35th Avenue NE and Central Avenue references the tradition of growing wheat in this area. At one time, it has been said, the wheat grown in this region was enough to feed the world. Much of the wheat grown in this area was carried south to the banks of the Mississippi River where it was ground into flour at large mills like the Washburn and Pillsbury A Mills.

At the end of 13th Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis is the outdoor studio and sculptural storage area of Zoran Mojsilov. Less a traditional studio space and more an abandoned patch of asphalt, Mojsilov’s work space is the far corner of the old Grain Belt Bottling House parking lot within a stone’s throw of the Mississippi River. In 2003 artists Shelby Gonzalez and Jane Elias worked with local teens to create the “Doggie ‘Do” mural on the east wall of The Groomsmen, a pet groomer in Minneapolis.

This mural highlights the historic streetcar system that once spread across the Twin Cities. Created by Adam May in 2008 it was a part of the Walldogs on Nicollet mural project. It’s located on the backside of the TNT building at Nicollet and 38th.

The south wall of the Cinco De Mayo Mercado in Minneapolis is covered with a playful mural that includes false doors and a glimpse into a Mexican alleyway. The artist is unknown.

The artistic team of Joanne Jongsma and Kristin Abhalter painted this mural on the north wall of the former Lucky Girl Grocery store at 38th and Grand in Minneapolis in 2004.

Caroline Woodruff painted this mural, “European Landscape,” on the side of Colonial Cleaners in 2005.

Cuban artist Lidia Aguilera Sanchez created this mural featuring Yemaya, the mother of waters of the Santeria religion, in 2003. The mural was originally located across the street at Peter Pan Cleaners, but while the business owner had approved the mural, the property owner had not and demanded it be moved or painted over (which is peculiar since another mural was painted at Peter Pan Cleaners the same year). In November of 2003 the Kingfield Neighborhood Association paid $3,000 to move the mural to Peterson’s Flowers just west on 38th Street. Currently the mural is at Victor’s 1959 Cafe at 38th Street and Grand.
