1and1 google adsense domains

You can't just follow google's instructions to verify your 1and1 hosted domain for adsense because 1and1 doesn't allow you to have a long cname. After searching online and then playing around for a bit I found the solution. I didn't know if it would work, but it does so I'm writing the instructions:

1. Got admin.1and1.com
2. Select the domain ->DNS->Change nameserver to

NS (nameserver)	ns1.googleghs.com
NS (nameserver)	ns2.googleghs.com
NS (nameserver)	ns3.googleghs.com
NS (nameserver)	ns4.googleghs.com

(this is what you should have already done)
3. You might have to wait up to 24 hours. On Google Adsense click my ads, and then choose domains. It should tell you the domain isn't verified. Click on details. It should show

Host name/Alias	Record Type	Value/Destination	Detected at 17/12/2010 10:26
www	CNAME (alias)	{###########}.afd.ghs.google.com	afd.ghs.google.com

4. Copy the {######} part
5. Go to 1and1 and create a subdomain with {######} as the subdomain. Basically, paste that in front of your domain.
6. Forward the subdomain we just created to http://google.com
7. Go to adsense domain section and click on Recheck All Domains

Then it should work!

It took me 20 minutes to figure this out even after reading the top results on google for the search term "keynote change theme font". It's not really answered by any websites out there so I decided to make a quick post about this.

So here's how to do it.

1. Open the white theme (or whatever theme you like to modify).

2. Drag this down.

3. Create your master slides.

4. Define your standard textbox fonts by putting a textbox in the blank slide. Change to desired default font. Select the text box.

5. Choose define text for all masters.

6. Save theme.

barely got out meeting to make the visa appointment, cant find the place, stranger points the place out, visa officer says my photo isn't printed on photo paper (i used photo printer glossy paper), points me to photo booth, £5 for 5 pictures (very expensive), i dont have change, leave to get cash, decide i'll reprint mine on a photo kiosk, ask a storekeep, gives a recommendation, i follow, i decide to go into boots to take a look, found it, kiosk doesnt connect online, luckily i emailed my photo to my mom to check out, ask guy with camera to take picture for me and print there, unfortuantley camera broke, i need a internet cafe i have a usb and sd card in my bag, next door is a curry's (bestbuy), one computer is not in demo mode, i put sd card in, sales rep comes over ask what i'm doing, i explain, he is friendly but says computers dont connect to internet, luckily i have mifi, turn it on, get pic put on my sd card, go to boots, cant be read, i go back to currys and tell him didnt work, luckily i still have my pic on computer, save it as jpeg again, save as tiff, save as tiff and back to jpeg, and put all of them on my sd card, go back to boots, one of them works, print it, pay, run back to visa office, cut it out, give it to person, told to come back on tuesday to pick up.

How important do you think your attitude is to the sale? And I'm not just talking about a positive attitude alone. I'm talking about a presence that's fired up with enthusiasm and passion for what you do. It's having the physical and mental energy to keep on going after many people would give up and go home. It's how you move, how you approach another person, it's in your handshake and how you stand and face the person. Your energy can make or break the sales call.

When you call on a customer with energy and enthusiasm, it means that you believe in your product or service, and are excited about what you have to offer your customer. This isn't bravado; a sincere belief in yourself and your product can't be faked. You don't have to take my word for it; these are comments from real customers:

"A sales person needs to stimulate me into buying his products. He needs some energy, some enthusiasm, some pizzazz."
"My favorite rep is incredibly energetic and enthusiastic. She does her job really well and she makes me feel good at the same time."

Here are some key points to keep in mind about the correlation between energy and your overall success:

Energy = motivation: William Clements, the former governor of Texas, told me, "Energy is the secret to everything. You can be a person of great integrity, character and all these other wonderful things, but if you don't really put your shoulder to the wheel, so to speak, and start pushing, you're not going to get to first base."
Top sellers are pro-active, not reactive: When you look at high achievers in any field, the first thing you'll notice is their high energy. They are pro-active personalities; these people make things happen instead of sitting back and waiting for things to happen to them. They have a positive attitude--based on a belief in themselves and their abilities--which keeps them going even when they encounter rejection and setbacks. If you're wondering how you can maintain your positive attitude, try these energy action steps:

Appreciate the good. We need to remind ourselves to focus on the positive. Sometimes we get so bogged down by the things that are "wrong" in our lives that we forget to be grateful for the things we have that are right. Every so often, take a step back and look at everything you've achieved so far. Celebrate how far you've come, without worrying about how much there still is to do. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Maine's lobstermen are working harder for less, as demand drops for their expanding harvest.

Lobstermen pulled in a robust 76.3 million pounds in 2009, according to the Maine Department of Marine Resources. That's the largest harvest in years, according to state records and estimates, but only in terms of volume.

Lapointe said the price of lobster managed to "claw its way" back to a range of $2.75 to $3 per pound in 2009, after slumping to $2 to $2.50 in the fall of 2008. That pales in comparison to five years ago, he said, when lobstermen were getting $4 to $4.50 per pound.

Lobstering is an essential part of Maine's economy, he said, providing about $500 million in annual revenue to coastal communities. He said the tourism industry has managed to hold up, despite the recession, but visitors to Maine only account for one-sixth of lobster purchases.

Lapointe said cruise ships, which are traditionally among the largest consumers of lobsters, are cutting back on their purchases and this has been painful for lobstermen.

"They are certainly in a financial squeeze right now," he said. "When they fish harder, they use more bait and more fuel, and those are huge costs for them."

Lapointe said fuel cost is consuming as much as 40% of a lobsterman's take, up from 10% to 15% in recent years.

More lobsters, less money

David Cousins, president of the Maine Lobstermen's Association and a lobsterman for 42 years, said the 2009 harvest was the biggest since the early 1990s, when the annual take peaked at an estimated 100 million pounds. But that is little comfort, considering the dropping prices and increasing costs.

"Our business is based on a $4 dollar-plus lobster [per pound]," said Cousins. "When you're getting $2.90 a pound, you're going the wrong way and it just doesn't work anymore.

The cost of Atlantic herring, an abundant fish used as bait in lobster traps, jumped to a range of 25 to 30 cents per pound from 3 cents in the mid-1990s, said Cousins. The cost of bait now consumes 20% of gross revenue for lobstermen, compared to 2% in mid-1990s, he said.

"Our [net] income has dropped by 35% to 40%, and sometimes 50%, because of increased cost of fuel and increased cost of bait," Cousins said.

This spells trouble for the industry and some lobstermen have lost their boats to bank foreclosures, he said.

"There are a lot of people who are in serious trouble up here, because they have a lot of money out on their business - they owe for boats and traps and houses and trucks and all that," Cousins said.

But getting out of this hardscrabble business isn't much of an option for most lobstermen, despite its difficulties, he added.

"People are hanging on as long as they can, because there aren't any jobs any more," Cousins said.

Google Checkout Send me a copy of this email Not working

There seems to be a bug with google checkout in that it sends an invoice to gmail accounts, but doesn't provide you a copy of the invoice even when you have checked "Send me a copy of this email"

The Copy Me worked when I tested it with my me account. Maybe this is a temporary issue. After all youtube was down for a while today...

Gmail account disabled permanently

Has anyone else had their gmail account revoked for being too awesome? I had mine revoked about a year ago but suddenly thought about it and am very pissed.

The reason? Because they can.

I can only guess they are going to launch a product called ....

Changing Mac Shortcuts to Optimse with Windows on VM Fusion

I have a Mac and run VM Fusion Windows XP to allow me to use great windows programs like Excel and have two Dropbox accounts. However, as a Windows Excel user, you'll have different shortcuts than Mac Excel users, but when you toggle between screens, the keyboard functions don't change. (My friend Geoff write an incredible Excel Tips for Mac users website. It's amazing and as more people use Macs, he should have a lot more fans. However, that'll have to wait until Office 2011 as Office 2008 on Mac sucks like mosquitoes in Panama. For now I will use VM Fusion.)

I haven't solved all the nuances (such as having to hit fn + F4 for an absolute cell reference instead of just F4) but here's three big ones.

Windows:

Undo: Ctrl + z

Redo: Ctrl + y

Skip a word: Ctrl + Left or Right arrow

Mac:

Skip a word: alt + left or right arrow

Skip to end: cmd + left or right arrow

Undo: cmd + z

Redo: cmd + y

Problem:

If you use Ctrl + Left of Right on a VM Fusion Windows, and have spaces enabled due to screen toggling functionality, you can't use the shortcut to skip a word in windows.

If you go to System Preferences->Expose and Space->Change shortcut for switch between spaces. It gives you 3 options to use 1. Ctrl arrow 2. alt arrow or 3. cmd arrow. We can't assign any of those shortcuts because they are all assigned (see above). I like using them all. But I really want a way to switch quickly between windows without having to see the grid (below).

Solution:

Then I discovered a secret! Just click the drop down and then hold shift. Now you can assign switch between spaces via Ctrl + Shift + arrow. I don't think there's duplicate functionality of that shortcut on Windows so yeah! I'm happy.

Each year, the Undergraduate Business School Leadership Conference (UBSLC) brings together over a hundred upcoming business leaders from the most renowned domestic and international universities each year. Conceived seven years ago by a group of dedicated student leaders from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School, the program was designed to create a collaborative forum for student leaders. The program continues to expose undergraduate students to top business leaders through workshops in leadership development, case competitions, and other interactive exercises. In 2006, the Goizueta Business School was proud to attract students from nine of the ten top-ranked undergraduate business programs in the U.S., as well as from leading institutions in England, France, Columbia, Ireland, Italy, Chile, China, and Singapore.

During the two-and-a-half day conference, participants not only expand their leadership skills and insights, but also build a social network with the world’s most promising future business professionals. The conference also features roundtable sessions, giving participants the opportunity to interact in small groups with prominent business leaders and entrepreneurs. The program’s goal is to empower students with the necessary leadership skills, and encourage them to make a positive impact when they return to their respective campuses.

The prestige of the universities represented at the UBSLC attracts more than top students. In 2006 keynote speaker Robert Nardelli, President and CEO of The Home Depot, kicked off a thematic conference organized around "Value Base Leadership." Summary of the Conference by Taige Zhang

We started the conference by attending Dr. Levitt's keynote speech about his book and Economics. The next day we listened to a panel of highly regarded executives from well known companies such as Coca-Cola, UPS, and Lehman Brothers. This was followed by leadership round table sessions where we got in small groups and could have very close and meaningful exchanges with managers or executives of various firms such as FedEx, Deloitte, etc. We then presented our school's CSA to over 120 students from US and other parts of the world such as Europe and Asia. The next day, we got into teams and participated in a case competition. Finally, we listened to Vice-chairman of GE talk about leadership which was a bit anti-climatic in fact because he talked about many of the things covered in textbooks.

I learned the most from the panel discussion. Some wonderful advice were I had to enjoy my job, think about using the phone before email, franchises are good, sales and flexibility are important, and try to find a mentor. They revealed businesses were moving to Latin America, Brazil and Asia. Communication is highly important to success as you start moving up into higher management positions. Outsource is good because it’s competitive. It's not taking away a lot of jobs because technology will always take away jobs. They also warned us about career killers such as email inappropriateness, doing stupid things, and being selfish. I found very interesting and pleased that optimism is more correlated to leadership than any other trait. The panel discussion was my favourite although the speech by Dr. Levitt was incredibly entertaining. In fact, after the panel, Richard and I got into a conversation with the moderator, a professor at Emory, for over 30 minutes which made us late from the roundtable and missed out on lot of free Coke products. He told us about how to volunteer, importance of who knows you, how to differentiate one's self, and tips on how to give a presentation. I loved this conference because it was international and so we could meet people from across the world and get a sense of what business schools and programs are like else where. I enjoyed meeting those people. The conference organizers were extremely hard working, warmly hospitable, and we made many great friends who I feel I'll be sure to meet and may even do business with in the future as we start having careers. I liked all the events because it was so well balanced unlike the conference I attended at Queens which had too many speeches and speakers. The only thing I disliked was we had no time to check out the city or had free time to explore. The organization was flawless and although I got lost once I was able to call my group liaison because we all got their cell phone numbers on the back of our name tags. That was very useful. Networking was easy because we loved to talk, there were often waits and delays, and everyone was friendly. Food was a bit of a let down but satisfactory. Accommodations were great because we stayed in comfortable hotel rooms, but it was a bit pricey. I liked how they always came to pick us the hotel.

I would recommend this conference as the conference to go to any future students. I’d love to go again, but I feel it would be more valuable for someone who has never gone to a conference to experience and open their mind.

Summary of the Conference by Richard Mo

The first session I attended was freakonomics by Levitt. My first feeling was that he had lots of jokes and funny stories to tell by trying to make sense of the world around us. The way he saw things was different from mainstream but he did get bestselling for his idea. For future reference, I think I would just sit closer to the speakers so that I can hear it more clearly. Be prepared with little bit food after you got off the airport because I was very hungry during the first session. For that reason, I wasn't very engaged at that time.

Then we went to mix and mingle session where we had snacks and talked with students from other schools. As it was the first time we met with each other, the biggest problem was that we didn't have enough time to form a in-depth conversation. I think, if I could start to get to know them earlier and be more proactive and ask more about “why you think it that way or why it should be that” rather than just “what”, we would have a smoother transition to intellectual communication.

After that, we were led to the Emory inn, where everyone would stay for the next three days. We woke up around 8:00 and went to Guizueta school of business. The school bus rode us there. We got to know each other on the bus, smiling and joking. I thought having everyone together on the bus was a very good idea for you to get to them in a relaxed way. We had breakfast together in a big dining room called coco cola common, enjoying the sense of community by siting around the table. This was also very cool too because we hadn't been having a chance to be exposed that way in school.

For the leadership round table, I thought it was little bit formal than I had expected. I didn't have a lot of interaction with the speakers or maybe I was a little bit shy. In general, I liked the way it was set up, which was a small amount of people compared to the regular keynote speaker session.

No matter where i went, Taige and gena were always laughing and providing insight towards issue. I learned so much about the individual differences from them. Speakers from Coco cola , UPS, Lehman brothers,etc provided their experiences of working in business world in a global perspective and gave advice on how students could be better prepared for their career. Frankly speaking, I was really tired during that session. For future reference, I would suggest sitting with someone that you know and maybe you could discuss about some of the interesting parts of the leadership panel. Jeffrey Rosensweig, professor of finance, filled the position of moderator during the leadership panel, which made the leadership panel more enjoyable.

The good things about the conference was that all the people, no matter professors and students and the administrative people, from emory were really active in helping, organizing, which gave us a lot of meaningful and enjoyable time. We also sat together discussing things about student learning experience in individual's home university and how we could make improvement on them. The way they organized the events were very good as well because they put equal balance in every day. In that way, i didn't have the feeling of approaching to the end of the conference.

Dinners was very cool esp the last day's. You got to meet people from other schools and chatted with them while eating. For future reference, It is very important, i think, one should make more effort to really get to know other participants at other time, like the time staying in emory inn or on the bus, rather than wait till more formal time to get to know them,like the keynote speaker time. By that way, you would raise the friendship to both personal level and public level.

Case competition was a great opportunity for me to get to know students from other school in team working's perspective because I wouldn't get a chance to know how they work while eating or chatting. It did make a difference to the conference and added a lot of value to it. The non-fun part was that every group had been so similar that I almost fell asleep while watching them presenting. For the General Electric session, I like the way how John Rice explained about the Chinese issue.

Near the end of the conference, I didn't realize it was the end , we had a nice dinner together at local restaurant. Everyone stayed there, laughing and enjoying, where I could still feel the warmth of the conference. I really enjoyed the truth-telling self-designed game. At the Toronto airport, taige's baggage got searched and at Atlanta, taige's baggage got stolen. It seemed fun stuff never had ended even the conference was done.

The points I liked about the conference was that the working people were so organized and had lots of passion and the events were very diverse. I thought they made the conference to the fullest. The points I disliked was that the keynote speaker session were bit of quiet and i didn't notice there were internet access in emory inn. Looking back at the conference, I think increasing the interactions with other students and also the keynote speakers would be more beneficial. I definitely recommend having three people instead of two people for the conference because you will probably feel more sense of collectivity.

I just called BA and asked about their Standby Policy because they don't really explain it online, and the few sources I found online, didn't seem too reliable.

What I found:

Q: I have a flight on Monday, can I fly standby on Sunday without paying a change fee? [I give my reference]

A: BA doesn't allow standby if you don't have a flexible ticket.

How do you know if you have a flexible ticket:

A: If you paid £700 to £800 for it. If during purchase, there is no mention of a change fee.

Can I cancel my ticket and take the value of my ticket as credit, and repurchase?

A: Yes on a flexible ticket, but only some fees are refunded on a budget ticket.

That's not very satisfactory.

I forgot to ask about name change.
